Mercedes-Benz Classics 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL "Pagoda" You can view this this original 280SL Pagoda through 1/22 in Scottsdale, AZ, about a mile from the Mercedes dealer. Please call or text 213-822-4485 or email [email protected] in order to set up an appointment. This is without a doubt the best example of an original Pagoda with impeccably preserved body panels. I guarantee you will not find a better example of an original, rust-free and accident-free 280SL. Extraordinary trunk floor that has never been touched up or repainted! A Mercedes Dealership in Tennessee decided in 1970 to keep this awesome color combination Pagoda as part of their collection up until the owner passed away a couple of years ago. The car was partially repainted over the years and what we can see is that the hood was repainted at some point in its life and so was the trunk lid. Both parts being aluminum and easy to dent and most likely the reason for the re-spray. The odometer shows 85,000 miles but the condition of the car is it is more in line with one that has 30,000 miles. The interior is entirely original and in excellent condition. The soft top canvas was replaced some years ago. Also included in superb condition is the original hard top with the factory chrome ski racks. The car's original headliner and wood trim has been preserved in excellent condition. Some rubber seals around the hard top are old and bridle but expected from a 47 year old car. We removed the front bumper for cleaning and we were extremely pleased to find out that the front bumper is in excellent condition and it has the June of 1970 wet stamping from the factory. None of the chrome parts appear to have ever been re-chromed as they all look to be 100% original. We have its original tool kit and books for it; however no service records have been recovered. The brakes system performs just like new. Heater levers are operating nice & free and the aftermarket air conditioner cools really well and better than the old York compressor that is today obsolete. The radio and its Hirschman antenna are the ones from the car from 1970 as well the original windshield. The car has all 4 new Uniroyal tires for safety. The body is very nice and straight without any major dents or chips and the body panel fit is perfect. Please note: some of the photos might give the impression there are varying shades of blue due to lighting discrepancies; in reality, the shade of medium blue is uniform throughout. A compression was done and we have an average reading of 175 lbs per cyl. The car starts perfectly when cold and shifts as good as new (a positive shifting transmission as most of us know, they do not shift very smoothly but rather on the hard side, which is exactly how they should shift). Truly a nice straight car with no rust issues. We only wish we could find cars like this more often but it's because we know how rare a find like this is these days that we are so excited to present it to the world! The gaps for the hood, trunk and doors are simply perfect! The trunk floor is beautiful and original and has also never been re-sprayed! All the chrome on this car is in really good condition and never been re-chromed! As most serious car collectors say, it's original only once. This car is so original that the front grille has never even been removed; the wings are still held with its original 9mm nuts and original washers! All 8 hood bolts that hold the hood also appear to never have been removed, which is an amazing thing to find these days. Pictures of the undercarriage support our understanding of the car’s history, i.e. it has always been driven in good weather. The engine and engine bay have been preserved in the most original state that we have seen over the last 40 years, almost like new, in fact, with its original Solex carburetors! Looks great. Drives great. Mechanically great. Fast and comfortable. A real head turner. This rare storm red metallic exterior and stone interior are the very best colors for an SL550. Along with all the other goodies, it has the pano roof, wood accent steering wheel, heated and cooled dynamic multi-contour pulse seats, Keyless GO, Bluetooth, AMG Sport Package, Navigation, 6-disc CD changer, Bose sound, and much more! Comes with full maintenance records. When I bought the car, I took it to my Mercedes mechanic and had him fix every mechanical issue. Less than 5K miles later, you get a car with no mechanical problems and all these recent repairs: fuel pump, engine and transmission mounts, spark plugs, drive belt and drive belt pulley, left front hydraulic shock, main battery, etc. The service history also shows that all brake pads, rotors and tires have been recently replaced. Looks great. Drives great. Mechanically great. Fast and comfortable. A real head turner. This rare storm red metallic exterior and stone interior are the very best colors for an SL550. Comes with full maintenance records. When I bought the car, I took it to my Mercedes mechanic and had him fix every mechanical issue. It was originally purchased on April 28th, 1987 at Gus Mayo European Motors by Maria Farrow at an original price of $55300! The car was sold to its second owner about 10 years ago and was driven sparingly since. Don't miss your chance to own a truly spectacular 560sl in one of the best color combinations! The car has very cool looking solid glass Bosch Euro Spec 500SL headlamps installed, which give it a much cleaner look. The car is riding on upgraded Mercedes 15" chrome wheels and has deep tread Michelin tires! All chrome trim, glass, and rubber seals are in great shape with the exception of the wheel arch rubber trim (the rears are cracking) but the wheel arches can be easily removed oif not to your taste. The windshield is like new with no chips. The soft top is brand new and in excellent condition, and has almost never been up. The hard top has good seals and the headliner is in awesome shape. Overall the exterior appearance of this car is a 9 out of 10. The interior is in great shape all around. The supple original Black leather seats are all in very good condition and look very nice with no rips or ware lines, which shows the quality of leather used in this car. The wood grain is in excellent condition with a minor crack in the center console. The carpets are all very nice are not worn or damaged. All dials and controls function as they should, power windows are fully functional, as is the power antenna. The sound system is also very nice with an Alpine head unit, original head unit comes with the car. Music is crisp and clear and not overwhelming. The sound system definitely adds to the driving experience of this roadster. This interior is absolutely beautiful and shows the previous owner really took care of the car. The car also has a gorgeous ALL Leather with seat belts "Kinderseat" installed in he back which is great for bringing your small grand children on a road trip! The trunk compartment has been freshly cleaned and looks great. The spare tire compartment is clean as a whistle and the spare tire has never hit the pavement! The panel that covers the power antenna is not present. Mechanically, this SL runs GREAT! The car starts right up and shifts smooth as silk. It drives as good now as the day it rolled of the lot. The V8 engine is surprisingly quick and responsive. It is reliable, easy to fix, and parts are readily available. The car was always regularly serviced by Mercedes authorized dealers. The book shows regular oil changes, always receiving synthetic oil changes at Mercedes certified dealers (book reports until 30k). This car just had the oil changed, tune up, and transfer case seals replaced and given a clean bill of health. Under the hood is clean as a whistle and looks like new. The car will include 3 keys,key remotes, original spare tire, top removal tool, and the maintenance books and owners manuals. All in all, this is one of the cleanest and nicest SL's that I have had the privilege of being associated with. It has been professionally maintained and truly loved by its previous owners.
