This 1992 Mercedes SL has been cared for all its life, so its paint, interior, and big V8 motor are all in amazing condition. In fact, the only part of this convertible that shows its age is the low price. If you want to treat the interstate like the Autobahn, do it in a R129 Mercedes-Benz SL. It has an intimidating presence when it looms large in anyone's rear-view mirror. That's due in large part to the wide grille and massive three-pointed star, but from any angle, this car looks like unstoppable performance. While it's not a small car, it does have the sheetmetal stretched tight over the mechanicals, and few cars have ever been as densely packed with technological wizardry as this SL. The white paint was a bold choice in 1992, but today it gives the car a modern elegance. The lower cladding in gray not only helps protect the bodywork, but also contributes to a long, low appearance that totally works with the SL's image. Out back, the iconic ribbed taillights not only look good, but also they were developed as a dirt-repelling safety feature. The R129 are still renowned today for their amount of technology packed into the luxurious interior. The blue leather buckets not only look amazing against the pristine white exterior, but that also are fully power adjustable. Of course the seats are just the tip of the premium iceberg. This SL has real wood trim, automatic climate control, power windows, power locks, cruise control, a powerful AM/FM/cassette stereo that sounds fantastic top up or top down. And speaking of the top, it's a multi-layered matching blue cloth roof that raises and lowers electronically with the touch of a button. For those days you want a coupe, there is an included removable white hardtop. But there's another side to Mercedes amenities that are always a nice bonus. This premium marque is known for engineering plenty of safety into their cars, and this can be seen on features such as the dual airbags, anti-lock disc brakes, and roll bar that automatically pops up when danger is detected. The 500 in SL500 refers to the 5.0 liter DOHC V8 that lives under the hood. Making a robust 315 horsepower, it gives you the freedom to choose to keep up with traffic, or easily leave all of them behind. There's a V8 bellow from the exhaust that sounds like LeMans at night, and it turns out that the engine is virtually bulletproof in the real world. You can tell by everything from the condition of the original alloy wheels to the undercarriage that this one has led a pampered life. Mercedes convertibles don't get their motors swapped like muscle cars, and so this has its original powertrain that has barely averaged 4,000 miles per year since new. The four-speed automatic transmission snaps to attention with the poke of the throttle, and the multi-link suspension provides impressive handling. In total, this is the ultimate roadster for the driver who wants a tight handling car for the backroads but doesn't want to give up supple comfort or space for the golf clubs. This SL500 is in an interesting place in the market where a Mercedes roadster that's so cherished that it comes with its original window sticker and owner's manual is still well within reach. I am selling this car for a long time friend. He bought this beautiful 560SL on February 2, 1989 for his wife. She has driven it very infrequently and only in nice weather. It has been garage kept it's entire life. Prior to us putting it up for sale, it has been gone through and anything that needed attention was repaired or replaced. Maintenance is up to date and it needs absolutely nothing. The car was then sent out to one of the high end detail shops in the Charlotte area and thoroughly detailed to a very high level. The car is absolutely beautiful inside and out! I seriously doubt there is a nicer one available. All original purchase documents are present including bill of sale and window sticker. Complete and up to date service history. Hardtop includes cover and stand. The fabric top is in incredibly great condition! The color on the window sticker is noted as Blue Green Metallic and the interior is Creme Beige Leather. The canvas top is Dark Brown. Original MSRP was $64,230.00. In the interest of full disclosure, the car has been involved in 2 incidents to where some repairs to the car were required. Both were very minor and no evidence of either exists today. In fact, neither are noted on Carfax or Autocheck but, the owner is an extremely honest individual and felt it necessary to make a potential buyer aware of both. The first incident happened in August 1989 and involved the right front corner, total repair cost was $1,702.80 (parts = $783.81, Labor = $879.80 and tax was $39.19). It's hard to tell from the repair order (b/c the handwriting is hard to read) but, it doesn't appear any body panels were replaced, the bumper (and parts), grill were replaced and otherwise looks to be mostly cosmetic in nature. The other incident was in October 1996 and involved the rear bumper. Total repair cost was $1,506.02; the rear bumper and a tail light lens were replaced ($747.00 material/parts, $723.20 labor and $35.82 tax). I have copies of both repair orders. Inspections are welcomed and encouraged, at buyers expense. I reserve the right to end this auction w/o notice b/c it is also for sale locally.

Beautiful 1992 Mercedes 300 SL. New expensive pearl paint job. New rims and new high performance tires. Runs great with a $2000.00 service done on it just a few miles ago. Needs a transmission rebuild for around 1500.00. A used one could be purchased. Car will not drive without it. Over 9000.00 invested in car but must sell. It has been garaged the last 2 years but cranked weekly and fires right up.Needs A pump for the convertible top to make it automatic. These are very expensive i found so i just open and close it manually. Normal wear and tear but paint is new condition. Look at pics it is a beauty if you fix trans it will be ready to go.
