The Mercedes-Benz S600 sedan has a potent new engine for 2003; the twin-turbo V-12 in produces 493 horsepower output. An available Pre-Safe system can recognize an impending impact before it occurs so it can adjust the seats to the safest position and activate the seat belt pretensioners. DVD-based navigation system and MP3 play capability became standard. Exterior Mercedes-Benz describes the S-Class as a sedan with a coupelike profile that's highlighted by a low nose and taller tail. The S600 has Active Body Control that continuously adjusts suspension firmness to eliminate body roll during cornering, acceleration and braking. As you slide behind the wheel of the 2007 Mercedes-Benz S600, you may be faced with a tough decision. What kind of a massage do you want? A screen on the instrument panel lists the options for the driver's seat: Slow and gentle, slow and vigorous, fast and gentle or fast and vigorous. The high-tech massaging seat is just a small part of the technology-packed new Mercedes-Benz flagship sedan. The 2007 Mercedes-Benz S600, the ninth generation of its flagship, is an astonishing amalgamation of technology, luxury and performance. The front seats in the 2007 S600 sedan can be awfully familiar. They grab, caress and hold you tight about the waist. They sometimes massage your shoulders quite affectionately. They like to touch... The seats in the S600 are unlike those installed in any other car. They are what Mercedes-Benz calls Drive-Dynamic Multi-contour Seats -- computerized seats that "anticipate" how the bodies of the driver and front-seat passenger will shift in turns and other driving maneuvers. If you are making a sharp right-hand turn, for example, the contour of the driver's seat automatically changes, bolstering and hugging the right side of your torso, thus mitigating the shift of your body's weight. The idea is to keep you firmly planted in the seat. It's disconcerting at first. But you get accustomed to it. You start loving it. You start hunting for curves. Both front and back leather-covered power seats offer both heating and ventilation. But the fancy seats are just the tip of the iceberg. Let's talk about two high-tech features. Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control with Brake Assist Plus is a long-winded name for a safety system that comes very close to making this a drives-by-itself machine. With the technology, you can set your speed (just like normal cruise control) and set your comfort distance for the car ahead of you. Then, on the highway, it'll react to nearby traffic, slowing the car when the car in front slows and accelerating back to speed when the lane is clear. If someone enters your lane, it'll brake very quickly as needed. And if you, the driver, don't hit the brake pedal fast enough, the car will beep and get the braking system ready for hard braking. The German automaker said its tests show this technology reduces rear-end collisions by 75 percent. The other head-turner is the S600's infrared night-view assist. The Mercedes system is more like a video game: Infrared beams are projected ahead and a tiny camera captures a real-time black-and-white image on an eight-inch TFT instrument-panel monitor. It's like watching yourself drive. The clarity is crystal clear. Mercedes-Benz says it can see 500 feet ahead of the human eye. It operates only at night and can be turned on and off. This car is loaded with everything you would expect in a premium luxury automobile -- an interior of supple leather and rich wood veneer, a beautiful sound system, theater lighting.
