I've owned this vehicle since 2009 and it was my daily driver up until two months ago. I drove it about 70 miles round trip daily to work and back home. This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 300D has been solid, but it's time to let it go. The diesel engine starts and shuts off with no issues and I routinely did the oil changes. The valve adjustment and diesel purge was done at least once per year. The two front tires are just a few months old. Cosmetically the vehicle does show signs of wear both in the interior and exterior from use and age (see pics). We have decided to sell our beloved 1985 300D Mercedes Turbo Diesel that will run all day and all night on diesel or bio-diesel and/or waste vegetable and get 25 to 30 mpg. These cars are known to get over a million miles and this beauty has just 175,000 miles. She has been serviced regularly and is a safe and reliable daily driver. This specific car has been the subject of discussion on many radio shows as well as been featured in News paper articles. Essentially this 300D has been used in the Real Estate Industry. My wife who is the primary driver is an Evergreen award winner meaning, she is a Nationally recognized GREEN realtor. We have owned this vehicle for about 7 years and we purchased it as a promotional tool specifically to run on Diesel and/or Waste vegetable oil that I myself would process from my home. In order for us to use this Mercedes along side a brand new Mercedes we needed to first find the very best 1985 Mercedes 300D available. Obviously we could not drive a well used 25 year old Mercedes Diesel in South Orange County. This vehicle had to be showroom condition and it was.....and still is today! After a very long search we found what we believe to be one of the very best in the country at the time and we found it right here in California. We purchased the Mercedes from a Mercedes Engineer and was carefully covered in dry storage for many years. The rest is history About the car... This 300D is in, close to like new condition, excellent inside and out as well as mechanically. It was repainted 6 years ago, there are no scratches or dings and the paint shines. The roof was showing a flat spot so it was just painted last week by the same shop that we have used for years. There are a couple of tiny blemishes in the paint but I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. Interior is also 9.5+ out of 10, no tears in seats, no splits in the dash, wood trim is exceptional 2 sets of OEM Carpets are included in Black and tan, exceptional. Naturally, The Black set is more practical so the tan set we removed and kept stored. Mechanical New brakes and slotted rotors front and back were just installed about 100 miles ago. Radiator was replaced at 150,000 miles Complete new OEM Mercedes Compressor dryer and AC system installed at 150,0000 AC Blows cold. In addition to the regular Diesel tank, there is a 10 gallon tank in the trunk that takes, Diesel, Vegetable Oil or Bio diesel. The processing equipment comes with the vehicle however you can choose what you would like to run this car on....your choice!.....Recently we just went finished 300 gallons of vegetable oil so we have been filling both the rear tank and the regular gas tank with Diesel for huge fuel range. It is very difficult to describe this car because it is such a beautiful and exceptional example. It really needs to be seen and I can assure you this has to be one of the best 1985 Mercedes 300D on the market today. The price I am asking is very low and it includes all the WVO processing Equipment that I have about $2000 into. There is also over $1000 of work into the vehicle to enable it to run on the optional fuels. "The equipment was installed by a Diesel Engineer in Torrance" This is a car that you can drive and easily maintain for many years to come and still sell for as much or more than you paid for it. Its a no brainer of an investment. The bad!....Its a very short list. there is a loose wire in the harness that runs through the grommet in the drivers side rear passenger door. Therefor the driver and rear right side passenger window is not rolling down. This did happen about 6 years ago and cost $75 to fix. It seems to have come loose again. I have not had time to have it looked at because it was in the paint shop. The rear window tint is starting haze, I believe we were told this would happen eventually when they installed it due to the rear window defroster....I believe was what they told us at the time. The other windows are perfect its just the rear window. This Mercedes has been worked on in the past by Hi-line Mercedes out of Orange, CA and they have told us this is one of the very best they have ever seen. I believe this particular car was loaded with every available option at that time, Automatic Sunroof, Cruise control, etc. Feel free to contact me with questions or more specific photos that you may want taken.. Following is the information on the WVO Equipment.. WVO Waste Vegetable Oil cleaning processing equipment I have here my Custom designed WVO, Waste Vegetable Oil processing equipment. It was designed and built in around 2010 and there was a story on it in the Orange County Register. Here is the link: ocregister.com/articles/oldroyd-328327-car-oil.html There are 2 x insulated 55 gallon drums with drum heaters. The first drum on the right side allows you to pour really nasty vegetable oil and let it settle while the contaminants sink to the bottom where upon there is a waste discharge valve to pour waste from the lower level. If you choose to speed up the process the drum heater will heat the oil very quickly to where it is steaming hot and very fine and again the waste will sink to the bottom very quickly. When the 55 gallons are ready there is a transfer pump on the lower right that will pump the oil into the left side drum. There is a drum heater on the left side drum too. The process is a centrifuge system using centrifugal force similar to the centrifuge on a big rig that cleans the air brake fluids. The centrifuge is powered by a second pump which pulls from the bottom and cycles around and discharges at the top. The second pump can process about 55 gallons in about 25 minutes but in turn it can clean the oil down to just one or two Microns depending how many times you polish or cycle the oil. Typically I will cycle it 4 or 5 times. When the oil is ready we have a 3rd pump which is the middle pump, this pushes the oil through a water separator and then through a final 10 micron sock type filter in the blue canister, through the filter out of the gas pump trigger and hose. The system works beautifully and will polish oil very much finer than a cartridge or filter system. All in all I have around $2000 plus in parts. Everything works flawlessly. This system will process thousands of gallons of fuel with very little maintenance and pay for itself in no time. OVER THE YEARS I HAVE PURCHASED AND SOLD SEVERAL PERSONAL CARS AND MOTORCYCLES ON EBAY SO I AM COMFORTABLE ACCOMODATING A SHIPPER BEINT TO MY LOCATION TO PICK UP VEHICLE AND WVO EQUIPMENT. Buttercup is a 1978 Mercedes-Benz 300D NA in Maple Yellow with Bamboo interior. This car has been very well loved and very well maintained. It will come with every service document related to the car from the day it came off the lot in 1978, including the original sales contract. This car is a joy to drive and is very reliable -- we have driven it on several 1,000+ mile trips around California with absolutely no issues. 26 mpg! Exterior:Original Maple Yellow paint is in very good condition with few blemishes. There are a normal amount of dings here and there, but no major paint issues. The car was rear-ended some time ago and there is a small dent in the trunk lid and a wrinkle to the left of the license plate. The original owner never bothered to have it fixed since it happened 15 years ago. Interior:The interior is immaculate. All original wood trim is uncracked and undamaged. All seats are original MB-Tex with exception of half of the driver’s seat which was partially recovered. All seats and armrests are untorn and uncracked. All instrument cluster lights have been replaced, and all instruments work except for the clock. The dash has some cracks, but a dash mat is included. The headliner is sagging a little and needs new retaining clips but is otherwise in good shape and has no stains. The door panels are clean with minimal wrinkles. The seat upholstery is pulling away at the top of the knee-kick on the backside, but it just needs to be re-tucked. It never bothered us enough to do it. All power windows work. An original Mercedes-Benz hazard triangle hangs in the trunk. Mechanical:Within the past 2,500 miles it has had a lot of servicing: The front tie rods, idler arm, drag link, and steering damper have been replaced. The engine vacuum pump has been replaced. The brake booster has been replaced and the brake system has been flushed. The transmission has been serviced including a filter and fluid change. The oil and oil filter has been changed. Both fuel filters have been changed. Within 1,000 miles the valves were adjusted, a diesel purge has been done, and both rear end links were replaced. Within 100 miles, all 5 glow plugs have been replaced. The vacuum system has no apparent leaks. Central locking works well, and the engine shuts off immediately when you turn the key off. The climate control system works reliably. The defroster is very good in the cold mornings and the air conditioning works and blows cold enough to maintain comfortable cabin temperature, but could use a recharge in the near future.Documentation:Every known record related to this vehicle will be included from the original purchase contract from Mercedes Benz in 1978, to dealership service records, to handwritten notes by the original owner about the neighbor lending a jump-start -- it’s all there. Odds and ends:The odometer reading is only an estimate. It had been stuck for some time before we got ahold of it, fixed it, and wound it forward based on the previous owner’s driving habits and documentation provided. Air condition works, brakes and tires are in very good condition, the car just received Major Tune up service. This "machine"as enthusiasts like to call it, has one of the best engines Mercedes has ever engineered, the bullet proof in line 6 cylinder 3.0L drives fantastic, the suspension is tight and sturdy but with that balance/float of the luxury car drive. From inside the cabin you cannot here anything just the road, no clunking, no vibration. All manuals, tools, books, service records are available. The interior is in great condition, and shows minimum to no signs of wear, the seats are firm and the dash is in perfect condition (very hard to find due to CA weather) the carpet, headliner also in great condition. The power sunroof, Windows, power seats and central locks all work as well as every single button in this car. The car also has the factory sound system with its original working radio-cassette and power antenna. The engine compartment and engine itself is also very clean, has a minor oil leak. Only flaws are some minor scuffs on the front passenger side bumper and fender which you can see in the photos provided, and some very minor pain fading on the trunk, smaller than Dime size, hardly worth noting. The car recently had all fluids checked and serviced (engine, transmission, radiator, etc.) This car is the exact opposite of the typical used car, and is truly a phenomenal machine. We are offering up a 1980 Mercedes 300TD wagon. One owner blue and yellow California plate car. 233k original miles. Original owner passed away early 2016 and his family is selling the estate. I am a amateur Mercedes enthusiast but I do know a little bit about Mercedes diesel. I have also had a very well known Mercedes Diesel mechanic look at the car. Engine is unbelievable! No blow by and purrs! Only pump diesel was used in this engine! The only thing we have done to the engine is a oil/filter change. Starts up quickly and runs down the road good. Drives straight and steering wheel is straight. Car is pretty impressive for almost being 40 years old. Original owner was an electrical engineer and was his own mechanic on this Mercedes. All maintenance was performed by himself. Car has updated climate control which is a very big deal. AC and heat work. Everything seems to work on the car. Vacuum door locks work as well. Overall my assessment of the car is that it is a true surviving California car. It seems to run and drive like a well taken care of car. I have put over 125 miles on it. While not a lot of miles, I just like to have an idea what I'm offering on eBay for the new owners benefit. Although a used car, I got that typical Mercedes diesel feeling that I could drive the car to New York and back and be fine. If you know these cars then you know how reliable they are. Here's our 1992 Mercedes 300CE Sportline coupe. I bought this from the second owner about 6 years ago. What made this car the one to purchase was the following criteria: Southern California car, color combination, condition, few owners, original paint, always garaged, Sportline optioned (very few of these cars. They are outfitted with the larger wheels, faster steering rack, bigger stabilizer bars and lowered suspension). With a Sportline car, you are basically going to get the car fully optioned. This car is only missing the rear window electric shade (which I have since then purchased, but not installed. It will be included in the sale).Since the initial purchase, I have replaced quite a few things to bring the vehicle up to near-new running condition and into the 21st century. Updates to make the car a better fit in today's world are the following: I replaced the original Becker radio with a Blaupunkt unit that includes Bluetooth and USB music input. This allows the owner to insert a USB stick into the connector installed in the glovebox; allows the owner to pair a mobile phone to the system and use hands-free communication and looks well-suited in the dash. I also replaced the front dash speakers with a factory-fit set from Rainbow that are true 2-way coaxial speakers, as well as adding a JL subwoofer/amplifier in the trunk that is completely removable if the space is needed. The sound system is fantastic at this point. The interior rear-view mirror was another item I replaced with a mirror specifically built for the W124 cars that offers automatic dimming, a compass and has 3 Homelink programmable buttons on it. Great upgrade.On the outside, I replaced the original headlight/turn signal configuration with the glass european headlights and clear corner markers. I even installed the adjustable headlight switch assembly inside the car so the headlight aim can be adjusted for cargo load. Something the US cars were never offered with. I removed the headlight wipers as I believe they clutter the car. Around back, I installed lightly smoked taillights, similar to how the later Mercs were done.With regards to service, what comes to mind is the automatic transmission and the torque converter, fuel injectors, entire ignition system as well as the ignition computer, coil and flywheel pickup. Other items would be air and fuel filters, the fuel pump check valves and sensors. The original transmission was slow to engage reverse and was over-speeding slightly during shifts, so it was replaced. I will have to say, replacing the transmission with a new unit was a major performance and shift pattern enhancement. I have also replaced the brakes, obviously changed fluids and a handful of hoses.The car drives as it should. It looks fantastic. Paint is in excellent original condition. Interior is flawless. Everything is functional, including the seatbelt presenters (as seen in one of the photos). All the original parts (headlights, taillights, headlight wipers, Becker stereo, etc) are available and will go with the car.
