That remains to be seen, but the bottom line is that this 2003 Ford Thunderbird is still a first-class ticket and a wonderful piece of retro styling that makes everyone long for a simpler time. Ford knew what they were doing when they rolled out the 2-seater Thunderbird convertible, capturing the look and feel of the original while updating in every way. This one wears classic black, a traditional color that accentuates the long, sleek profile and offers a modern take on a classic '50s look. The dark paint accentuates the long, low profile and works better than many of the other colors offered. With just 41,223 miles showing on the clock, you know this one is in excellent shape in every way and has lived an easy life, like most Thunderbirds, as a future collectable. As such, it's never seen snow, never been wrecked, and if it's even been in the rain, it was only in an emergency because this was not a daily driver. Build quality on these cars is quite good (Ford obviously knew their halo car had better be excellent in every way) and the various parts fit together better than you'd expect and offers doors that close with a reassuringly heavy feeling. Unlike so many 2-seat convertibles, this 'Bird feels substantial. There's still a bit of chrome, mostly on the grille, and all of those details are in as-new condition, too. The black and red interior is a dramatic contrast to the relatively subtle bodywork, elegant and sporty in every way. With such low mileage, there are almost no signs of use save for a few wrinkles on the driver's seat leather, and even those might have been there when the hides were still on the cow. Black carpets are unmarked, protected by some carpeted floor mats that are bound in red piping, and the lovely two-tone leather steering wheel isn't dirty or discolored. Heck, even the shifter knob is wrapped in matching red leather! Just about everything was standard on the Thunderbird, including automatic climate control, power windows, locks, mirrors, and seats, cruise control, and a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo that sounds great when you're running alfresco. The big, clear gauges have a retro feel but aren't duplicates of old gauges but a modern take on a classic look, right down to the turquoise-colored pointers. A power convertible top is the one you'll use most often, but it also includes a color-matched porthole hardtop so you can use it year-round. Ford's 3.9 liter V8 engine is smooth, torquey, and utterly capable in the smooth 2-seat 'Bird. It's not made for tire-shredding performance, but if you want to hustle, it's ready and willing. Properly maintained from new, it's turn-key ready for a cross-country road trip, and with the 5-speed automatic transmission behind it, fuel economy is decent. Like the original Thunderbirds, the suspension is supple without being soggy, and the all-independent setup rarely puts a tire wrong. Big disc brakes give it a level of confidence earlier Thunderbirds would have appreciated and the dual exhaust has just the right eight-cylinder burble. This one currently wears a set of chrome Thunderbird wheels with 235/50/17 Michelin radials, and the bright wheels are the perfect complement to the black paint, making this a very flashy T-Bird indeed. Only time will tell if these are legitimate collectables, but buying a low-mileage Thunderbird in a great color combination is a great first step. You want more tradition with your retro-styled convertible? Or maybe you're just not attracting enough attention at the local cruise night. Well, this 2005 Ford Thunderbird 50th Anniversary Edition neatly solves all those problems. It's one of 1500 built by Ford to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the T-Bird, and it's got a lot of unique features that make it a strong future collectable. Yeah, there's a lot of gold, but it totally works here. Even if it's not your thing, you can see that Ford's latest Thunderbird can still pull it off. All the Anniversary models were given a special Cashmere "Tri-Coat" paint job that's almost iridescent when you see it in the sun. The sheetmetal is factory Thunderbird and the paint is beautifully preserved, so it's just dazzling in person. With only 19,349 original miles, it still looks fresh and as I said, it definitely attracts attention, particularly with the ladies. In truth, every one of the Anniversary cars was sold before they even hit showrooms, such was the fever for a future collectable, and I'm sure you'll have people asking you what color it is when you're stopped at red lights or picking up some groceries on a warm summer evening. A few chrome accents really stand out against the gold metallic paint, as do the brilliant red taillights, which still look like new. The interior got a light makeover with some matching Stone highlights, done in leather, of course. Most of the upholstery is factory-issue Ford leather, but Anniversary models got black carpets with matching floor mats piped in Stone leather, a leather-wrapped wheel and matching Stone shifter knob, and the whole theme fits together quite well. Nothing was altered beyond the colors, so all of Ford's engineering and technology, not to mention reliability, remains intact, making this a car that you can still comfortably drive every day without a second thought. Everything was standard, from power windows and locks to automatic climate control and a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo system that more than fills the cockpit with sound. White-faced retro instruments and Thunderbird logos with turquoise inlays are more connections to the past, and everything works like it should. You'll also note gold-toned scuff plates and a special plaque in the glove box commemorating the occasion. The trunk is untouched and ultra-clean, while the tan convertible top stows in seconds with just the touch of a button. There's also a matching Cashmere porthole hardtop, which, to my eye, completes the look even better than the canvas one. The same 4.0-liter DOHC V8 that lives in all the Thunderbirds lives in this one, too, and it's reliable and smooth, exactly what you want from a grand-touring machine. Capable of eating up hundreds of miles without complaint, but entertaining to drive around town with a great V8 bark out back, it's the right engine for this car. It is, of course, 100% stock right down to the air filter and exhaust system, which insures reliability and comfort because this car is all about being seen. A 5-speed automatic transmission is unobtrusive and the all-independent suspension soaks up bumps without losing its agility. Anniversary cars were pretty stock under the skin, although they did get those special chrome alloys, which wear 235/50/17 Michelin radials. No, it's not for everyone, but if you want your convertible to be a little out of the ordinary, this is the 'Bird that belongs in your garage. This 1984 Ford Thunderbird FILA edition captures the era and the car quite nicely, and you'll be pleased to learn that it's also a great car to drive. The bright white paint with a black lower cladding as a distinctive look in 1984 and is still every bit as striking today. It was actually repainted a few years ago and they wisely chose to not only keep the FILA's special color combination, but replaced the distinctive red and black pinstripes that run the length of the body. It's got a few signs of use since then, but it's pretty obvious that someone has always treated this car as something special and the sheetmetal underneath is in great shape. And speaking of shapes, this aerodynamic Thunderbird was a game-changer, ushering in the aerodynamic age at Ford and signaling to the rest of the industry that boxy cars were over. Add in a color-coded grille, blacked-out trim, and a few well-chosen Thunderbird badges from a later T-Bird, and you get one of the most visually striking and distinctive cars of the '80s. Even 30 years later, this car is dramatic. The original interior is in good condition, showing the usual wear on the outer bolsters on the driver's seat, but everything else looks pretty good for its age. Buckets were standard equipment in the Thunderbird (who would want a bench seat anyway?) and the supportive chairs are still comfortable today. The FILA edition came with just about every option, including A/C, power locks, windows, and seats, a tilt steering column, and cruise control, making it a fine choice today. The center console is festooned with buttons and switches, giving the car a very high-tech look, but it's all quite stock, from the factory gauges to the AM/FM/cassette stereo in the center of the dash. The A/C still blows cold and you'll probably find that you feel right at home within a few moments of climbing aboard. In back, there's a good-sized trunk that still carries its original space-saver spare tire. Ford's venerable 5.0 liter V8 was one of the engine choices in 1984, and it's probably the one you want today. Making the same kind of torque as the one they were throwing in the Mustang, the FILA Thunderbird is surprisingly quick and gives you a great whack of acceleration when you step on the loud pedal. The engine bay is tidy but original, and unlike so many other 5.0-equipped vehicles, it's completely stock. The 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission is a willing partner, with quick downshifts and an easy-cruising overdrive gear plus 2.73 gears out back for pretty decent fuel economy. The same Fox-platform hardware that underpins the Mustang is found here, so it's confident but comfortable and the hardware is virtually bulletproof. There's a recent exhaust system that has a nice V8 burble to it and the original alloy wheels have been refinished to match the body, just as it was when it was new. Recent 195/70/14 blackwall radials give it just the right look for 1984. With only 2532 FILA edition Thunderbirds built, this is among the most collectable. It's also a very reasonably-priced way to get into the hobby with a car that's a lot of fun to drive. This is a real-deal, documented E-code 1957 Thunderbird. That means dual quads atop the 312 cubic inch V8, and with that in mind, the restoration was carried out to an extremely high standard. In a sea of early Thunderbirds, THIS is the one to own. It shouldn't surprise you that this car was restored to compete on the show field, and we've never seen a 2-seat 'Bird as highly detailed as this one. They stuck to the original specifications with this one, giving it a coat of code F Starmist Blue paint, as it was new, although the quality and shine are simply astounding. For many, the '57 Thunderbird is a favorite, with its more pronounced fins that were a part of the 1950s automotive landscape. It's been in the current owner's hands since 1979 and since a full restoration about 10 years ago, it has hardly been driven so it's very fresh. The chrome was treated to show-grade refinishing, and every single component on the car was buffed and shined before it was reinstalled, so it glitters no matter where you look. It's also loaded with other unique features, including a dealer-installed continental kit, original radio antenna on the deck lid, and beautifully fitted fender skirts. This is a very impressive car. The interior is restored to the same standards using correct two-tone blue vinyl that does a pretty good impersonation of leather. The wide bench looks more like two close-coupled buckets and makes the sporty T-Bird strictly a 2-seater. Everything inside has been refinished to show standards, including the gorgeous door panels, exceptional steering wheel, and precisely detailed gauges. It's all quite correct, from the neatly clustered instruments to the floor shifter for the Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission. For show purposes, there are no "updates" or modifications to any of the interior systems, and even the original AM radio remains in its engine-turned panel in the dash. The spare tire moved back into the trunk for 1957, and even with the continental kit, this one is neatly finished with a correct reproduction mat and full-sized spare tire with jack assembly. And yes, don't worry, this one comes with two tops, a color-matched light blue hardtop with porthole and a beautifully fitted navy blue canvas convertible top with a crystal clear rear window. As nice as it is, this Thunderbird's status is almost entirely due to the E-code engine under the hood, complete with dual quads. With 270 horsepower, it was a neat experiment in creating a Corvette-eater that could still cruise the streets of Beverly Hills. Topped by the distinctive air cleaner, the 312 cubic inch V8 was fully rebuilt to stock specs and fully detailed with a dress-up kit. Every detail is correct, from the hardware securing the valve covers to the reproduction battery, and it runs as it should with a healthy bark from the dual exhaust. You can see bright red engine paint on the oil pan from below, and take a few minutes to enjoy the fully detailed chassis that's ready for the most demanding judges. Both power steering and power brakes make this E-Bird easy to handle and for style, nothing compares to a set of chrome wire wheels wearing 205/75/14 Coker Classic wide whitewall radials. There are only a few Thunderbirds that are more desirable than this, and they all have superchargers. If you've been looking for the one of these to complete your collection, this might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Learning from the previous two years, Ford substantially revised the T-Bird, adding some small fins, enlarging the grille opening, and moving the spare tire back inside the trunk. This lovely Colonial White 'Bird offers a quality older restoration, a rare 3-speed manual transmission, two tops, and a true '50s feel. You simply can't go wrong with white paint and a black and white interior, and this T-Bird is beautifully finished in code E Colonial White (it was originally code Q Thunderbird Bronze with a Colonial White top). Bodywork is quite good thanks to a bare-metal restoration, with straight panels and beautiful attention to detail where it matters: note how neatly the taillight end caps fit, how crisp the character line along the side of the body appears, and the incredibly tight gaps all around. Somehow the paint shop gave the modern finish a soft shine that looks straight out of the Ford factory in 1957, but with a durability that gives it long-term durability that's still in good shape. Other details, such as the turquoise-inlaid Thunderbird badges, the cool rear bumper with integrated exhaust outlets, and the stainless trim on the fender skirts have all been restored. This is a very clean car that's easy to like. That two-tone black and white interior was restored at the same time, and it captures the original look in just about every way. Ornate door panels offer machine-turned panels that match the dash and a stylish armrest that gives the cockpit a wrap-around feel. The gauges are probably in original condition and we note that the needle on the tach has fallen off and the speedo isn't working, but the faces are in good order. The original Town & Country radio lives in the dash and still works, which is always a pleasant find in a vintage car. Correct black carpets and color-coordinated white seat belts indicate that someone cared about doing this car right, and as with the bodywork, fit and finish are nicely done. Overhead there's both a folding convertible top stashed behind the seats as well as the Thunderbird's famous "porthole" hardtop. In 1957, if you wanted a 3-speed manual transmission, you got the C-code 292 cubic inch 2-barrel V8, which was rated at 212 horsepower. With good mid-range punch and a flat torque curve, it's an easy cruiser with moves more like a muscle car than a luxury car. Up top, there's a traditional chrome air cleaner that inhales through the fully functional hood scoop, Ford Red paint on the block, and proper Thunderbird finned valve covers that are likely the prettiest ever made. For the most part, it's quite stock under the hood, with notable upgrades such as an Optima battery and a 12-volt alternator hidden down low. The exhaust system is muted yet muscular and there's a fresh gas tank hanging out back so no worries in that regard. The chassis is largely original, so it's not detailed for show, and wears a set of stock steel wheels, original hubcaps, and 205/75/14 BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall radials. Iconic, fun to drive, and a solid place to park some cash for a while, this '57 Thunderbird is everybody's favorite slice of the 1950s. They bring smiles to the faces of everyone who sees them, they're wonderful to drive, and are the stars of every car show they attend. So why not take this pretty 1957 'Bird home and find out what all the fuss is about? An older restoration, this Thunderbird has a classic look of comfort, as if the car and its owner were travelling partners for many years. The bright Colonial White may remind you of Suzanne Sommers in "American Graffiti" (although hers was a '56) and paired with the black and white interior, it's a look that has always been in fashion and always will be. Bodywork is nicely done, good enough to show with pride at the local cruise night, but not so over-restored that you pack it in when the sun goes behind a cloud. I'm especially impressed by how well the fender skirts fit, which is often a problem area on these cars, and with the fuel filler door moving to the quarter panel, the deck lid fits well and doesn't leak into the trunk. Clearly a good amount of cash was tied up in the chrome work, including the front grille and the unique rear bumper with exhaust openings under the jet-like taillights. If there's a more pure statement of 1950s style, I don't know what it might be. Inside, the clean black and white upholstery is both sporty and elegant, almost like a tuxedo, and exactly the way Ford designers intended for their personal luxury roadster. Correct vinyl covers the power bench seat using the original ribbed pattern, and matching black carpets have been piped in black vinyl for a tailored look. The dash offers an engine-turned face that was the standard high-performance look in decades past, wrapping into the door panels that are simply gorgeous. Accessories include power seat, aftermarket A/C that's fully functional, and an original Town and Country AM radio in the center of the dash. The A/C uses an under-dash unit for a period-correct look, and the gauges appear to be in good original condition with only a bit of fading on the needles. Interestingly, you could order a soft top OR a hardtop with your base Thunderbird, but getting both was optional, so this one carries only a "porthole" hardtop in matching Colonial White. The trunk is finished with a correct mat, and with 1957's larger trunk, there's room for a full-sized spare, which you should be able to track down without a lot of trouble. In 1957, the Thunderbird was running 312 cubic inches in the Y-block V8 and making a cool 245 horsepower with a 4-barrel carburetor. That chrome air cleaner inhales through the functional hood scoop, an early version of ram air, and matching chrome valve covers are some of the most attractive pieces ever installed on an American car. The bright red engine has seen some time on the road, but isn't that how you prefer your cars, full sorted and ready to enjoy? The modern A/C compressor is a neat fit and works hard to stay out of sight, but otherwise it's quite stock under the hood. For 1959, the year this handsome red T-bird was built, sales were even stronger, and it's quite likely that without this trailblazing car, the Thunderbird would not have survived. Known as the square Birds due to their angular styling, these are extremely handsome cars. This one has been nicely restored to a very high standard, showing great attention to detail and a lot of effort spent on getting everything straight. Despite the nickname, the cars actually have a lot of intricate shapes that were surely a challenge to stamp properly when they were new and doubly challenging to restore properly. Note the peaked tailfins, the pointed side trim, and the graceful body line stretching from the headlights down through the door. Ford's obsession with the jet age continued, and this Thunderbird features four round taillights that give the 'Bird a very distinctive look. All the chrome is beautifully restored, including the massive front grille/bumper assembly which probably cost thousands all by itself. This is one of those cars that will show you something new every time you look at it. Inside, the lovely black and white bucket seat interior offers a full-sized back seat, so you aren't limited to just one passenger. The seats feature correct patterns and materials, along with a center console that houses the radio speaker and climate controls. Matching door panels seem to echo the sweeping body line on the outside sheetmetal, along with an interesting embossed design along the bottom edges. Fresh black carpets are protected by Thunderbird-logo floor mats, and the dash continued Ford's cockpit theme. A complete array of gauges is housed in a brightly polished panel and they appear to be completely original, and restoration photos show this was a fairly clean car to begin with. Check out how the numbers on the speedometer flip between 120 and 130, as if you'll need to assess your speed at a glance. This car received Ford's H-code 352 cubic inch V8, which was rated at a nice, round 300 horsepower, a significant jump over the 2-seater 'Birds. The neatly finished engine bay has a very industrial look to it, but I suspect the effect is intentional, with a background of satin black framing a minimalist Ford Blue engine. The original air cleaner is still fitted, as are the original valve covers, which are simple stampings that suit the engine just fine. It starts quickly and easily with a pleasant muted rumble from the dual exhaust, and the 3-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission clicks through the gears with authority. The undercarriage is original and solid, with clean floors and frame. Standard steel wheels wear full wheelcovers with spinners, as well as a set of 225/75/14 whitewall radials. The market seems to have rediscovered the 4-seater Thunderbird, and there are few better ways to travel than Ford's upscale personal luxury car. Reliable and comfortable enough to be a daily driver, and stylish enough to get you front-row parking at the swankiest joint in town, where else can you spend less than $20 grand and get this much charisma? There's no denying the dramatic shapes and curves of the second-generation 'Bird, and they sum up the '50s perfectly: lots of body lines, heavy chrome, and just a hint of tail fins, plus a hood scoop and taillights that look like jet exhaust ports. How can you not love this car? The glossy black paint definitely works well on the formal T-Bird's shape and while it's not perfect, it has a comfortable, satisfying look that says it's done trying to make friends and just wants to be itself. You won't worry about rain or bugs, either, which is quite liberating in an old car, yet everywhere you go people will stop and admire this big coupe. The heavy old steel fits together well, with doors that close with a precision feel and a massive trunk lid that sits flush with the surrounding bodywork. Those massive quarters are straight, the body lines match up from panel to panel, and, well, this car needs no apologies. Even the chrome is quite nice, with an age-appropriate look but no damage or scarring that would wreck the look. Show up in this car wearing jeans and a T-shirt and everything'll be just fine, or take it out on the town and enjoy A-list motoring. Bucket seats were standard equipment in the personal/luxury Thunderbird, and the 1958 redesign added the much-appreciated back seat that is contoured for two but will carry three in a pinch. The twin cockpit design is another reach into the jet age, with round gauges ahead of the driver that quite contemporary with their white faces and orange pointers. The two-tone seat covers look good for being original, along with clean carpets and door panels that are nicely preserved and show years of proper care. The original AM radio remains in the dash, but it could do with an upgrade since it's not working any longer, and factory A/C in any car of this vintage is a nice find (although it needs a recharge). In back, you'll find a positively massive trunk, fully upholstered and including a full-sized spare tire under its own cover in the center. The standard engine on the T-Bird in 1959 was a 300 horsepower 352 cubic inch V8, which was the first of the FE blocks (you know, the same as the mighty 427 that would come a few years later). Dressed in Ford Blue with chrome some chrome dress-up, it looks right for a period cruiser and moves the big 'Bird with effortless ease. It sits squarely in the center of the engine bay, so service access is excellent, and there are a lot of new components to make it reliable. And while it's not detailed for show, there are no trouble spots, either, so just get in and go and don't worry about it. It's linked to a 3-speed automatic transmission and a set of 3.10 gears out back, so cruising is effortless, both around town and on the highway. The dual exhaust sounds suitably powerful, and it wears original wheels and period hobcaps wrapped in 205/75/14 skinny whitewall radials. An easy cruiser that has a casual look that will attract attention everywhere it goes. Just think of the fun you can have with this awesome Thunderbird. One, they're perhaps the ultimate expression of 1950s style and two, they are some of the most stable automotive investments you can make. Name another car you can buy today, enjoy for 10 years, and sell for pretty much what you have in it, or even turn a profit. Not many cars can make that claim, but Thunderbirds are rock solid that way. This striking black-on-red 'Bird is one of those great cars that is always ready for a show or a cruise. Code AA Raven Black is its original color and you know it'll never go out of style, so that's another point in this car's favor. The '57s have their share of fans, and as the most modern and distinctive of the early 'Birds, it delivers on the promises its looks make. It was restored in 1993 and driven quite a bit since then, but the smooth, shiny paint is holding up well (although certainly not perfect) and looks far fresher than you'd expect. You can credit first-rate workmanship and attention to detail for that feat, and everything still lines up right and fits tight. All the chrome was refinished during the restoration and it has held up quite well, with no notable blemishes even around the exhaust ports in back, and that deck lid mounted antenna is an interesting feature that usually means the dealer installed the radio back in the day, helping this one stand out even more. As far as driver-grade Thunderbirds go, this one is presents very well. Bright red upholstery with dark red carpets emphasizes the flashy look, and with careful ownership this one looks years younger than you'd expect. The bench seat is still supportive and comfortable, the carpets are good, and gorgeous door panels don't show so much as an indentation from the driver's elbow on the armrest. A matching steering wheel has been neatly wrapped in red leather, offering a classy look that blends right in. The gauges are probably original but they show well with clear lenses and bright pointers, although the odometer isn't functioning, so we don't know the exact mileage. Upgrades include the under-dash A/C unit which is both effective and period-correct, an AM/FM/cassette stereo radio with digital tuning in the original dash slot, and a modern alternator to power it all. A black canvas convertible top stows behind the seats, just in case, and looks great with a crystal clear rear window, and you also get a matching porthole hardtop that's a trademark T-Bird look. The spare tire moved back into the trunk for 1957, so this one carries a matching spare wheel and tire assembly as well as a reproduction plaid trunk mat. The rebuilt 312 cubic inch V8 was rebuilt by Bob's T-Birds in Florida and looks great wearing the dress-up kit that virtually every Thunderbird eventually receives. Finned valve covers, a chrome air cleaner, and bright red engine paint really pop against the shiny black bodywork, and you can tell that this one was built to drive. Power steering is a nice find on any early 'Bird and the A/C system fits so neatly in the engine bay that it could almost pass for OEM. A 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission is unobtrusive and the right choice in an early 'Bird and with 3.00 gears out back, it's a superlative highway cruiser. Gorgeous chrome wire wheels really sparkle against the black paint and wear proper BFGoodrich Silvertown 7.50-14 bias ply wide whites for a perfect period look. If you've never owned a Thunderbird, you're in for a treat, and for those of you who already know how great they are, this one is ready to drive and enjoy without worries. Cool, right? Built in 1985, it's a very convincing replica. The fiberglass bodywork nails the Thunderbird look with the wide grille, functional hood scoop, and small fins on the rear fenders; heck, it's even got cowl vents! Some folks might think the lack of fender skirts gives it away, but the truth is that skirts were optional on the original 'Birds, although 95% of buyers opted to have them. Finish quality on the body is quite good and it fits together nicely, and the bright red finish certainly looks right on a 2-seat 'Bird. The paint is showing some age and some prep issues, most of which could be remedied with a professional wet sand and buff, but at speed nobody's going to notice and with the mechanical upgrades underneath, you'll be having too much fun driving the thing to worry about it. Nice chrome details are so accurate they're probably interchangeable with original Thunderbird pieces, although the rear bumper no longer uses built-in exhaust ports, which at least saves you the hassle of polishing the soot off the chrome every weekend. At first glance, the interior looks traditional, but then you notice those are high-back buckets wrapped in Thunderbird-style red and white seat covers. A tilt steering column actually makes it a lot easier to climb in and out and it's topped by a handsome Grant GT wood-rimmed steering wheel. The dash is a reasonable facsimile of the original, with all the gauges grouped ahead of the driver in a neat machine-turned panel, and the A/C system is far better integrated than it was in 1957. There's also a modern AM/FM/CD stereo, which is a thoughtful update on a car that dates back three decades. There's some evidence of use, most notably a hole in the driver's seat, but that also means this one is totally sorted out and ready to enjoy without the usual foibles of an assembled car. It includes both a folding convertible top and a removable porthole hardtop, again making it a very convincing doppelganger. The trunk is fully upholstered in matching red carpets and it's surprisingly roomy for easy road trips. The engine is a reliable Ford 5.0 liter V8 borrowed from a 1985 Mustang GT. That was the last year for carburetors, so it's easy to maintain and retains the flavor of 1957. Of course, you also get things like a reliable A/C system, serpentine belt accessory drive, and a powerful alternator instead of a generator. Power disc brakes and power rack-and-pinion steering are included, so this Thunderbird rides, handles, stops, and steers better than anything built in the '50s. A custom chassis supports the body and includes a great-sounding dual exhaust system that has a mellow V8 sound that's appropriate to the Thunderbird's luxury/performance image. Heck, there's even a catalytic converter to make it legal just about anywhere you'd care to go. The rear suspension is also from a Mustang, using a familiar 4-link setup and it sits on 205/75/15 Coker wide whitewall radials with a wire wheel cover in the middle. A Thunderbird with all the upgrades you've been wishing for, all at a discounted price. It's easy to see why this T-Bird replica was so popular with its previous owners and why you'll enjoy it tomorrow. Someone has brilliantly transplanted the 32-valve heart of a Mark VIII Continental and its cosseting interior into America's favorite Ford, and the result is something altogether amazing. The amount of work that went into this build is immense, but you'd hardly know anything was unusual from the look of the exterior. Seeing a 'Bird without skirts isn't typical in many of today's restos, but that's actually how they came because the familiar skirts were an option, not standard equipment. As a result, this one looks pretty correct wearing its Torch Red paint and clean 1955 lines that are remarkably free of ornamentation and heavy-handed chrome. The bodywork is straight and everything lines up quite well, particularly for a 1955 Thunderbird, and it's obvious that a good deal of money was spent on the cosmetics. It's showing some signs of enjoyment because this really is a 'Bird that was built to fly, but there are no major demerits or flaws. Quite honestly, the look of this Baby Bird is great, but most interest will be paid the moment you peer under the hood and into the cabin. But cruising down the road, you'll be the envy of every other motorist because you'll have the world's biggest grin on your face. So the interior is where some really remarkable things have happened. 90% of a Lincoln Mark VIII's guts were transplanted into the 2-seat Thunderbird cockpit and it looks completely OEM in every way. It's almost as if Ford engineers traveled 40 years into the future and stole some parts and dropped them into place here. The tan leather buckets, the center console, the custom door panels that seamlessly wrap into the Mark VIII dash, all of it looks like it was born here. There's more, because the Mark VIII's tilt column and steering wheel made the trip, too, along with all the gauges and vents, with the center stack neatly angled towards the driver. Even the Lincoln's AM/FM/cassette stereo still lives in the center of the dash, joined by a set of manual A/C controls from Vintage Air, so it all works right. There's a bit of wear and a few signs of use, but the gee-whiz factor of this interior can't be underestimated. There's a matching tan convertible top and the trunk has been lined with carpet and custom Thunderbird side panels, plus a full-sized spare. The Mark VIII's 4.6 liter DOHC V8 also made the trip, and it's a neat fit in the T-Bird's engine bay. A custom radiator hooks it up, there's a conical air filter up front, but the rest looks totally OEM, including the plastic shroud that gives it a very finished look. It starts easily thanks to OEM fuel injection and the smooth, seamless flow of power from this engine is a sensation that you'll have to experience for yourself. The Mark's 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission made the trip, too, and drives the 'Bird's original 9-inch rear end, so it's an incredible highway flyer that never gets tired. A custom dual exhaust system gives it a subtle V8 burble and there's a new gas tank, fresh shocks, and 205/75/15 whitewall radials to keep it all looking like 1955. This is an incredibly impressive build that easily cost several times the asking price. If you appreciate resto-mods, this one absolutely nails it. And it's hard to understand why it took so long. With the optional 428 under the hood, original documentation, and lots of options, this '66 Thunderbird has led a pampered life and is evidence why these fourth-gen Thunderbirds are in such demand. Finished in its original G-code Sapphire Blue, this Jet-Bird is long and low, sleek and powerful, and the embodiment of personal luxury in the 1960s. Styling was dramatic but restrained in its use of bright trim, and the more formal roof line contrasts brilliantly with the sleek lower body. The paint and body are in great shape, with nice body gaps and a shine that took hours and hours to create through laborious hand sanding and buffing. The white vinyl roof was recently re-covered and contrasts brightly with the bright blue paint, giving the car a very upscale look. Both the front and rear original bumpers have been re-plated and complete the slick look. Pop open the door and you'll be greeted by a stunning white leather interior that is a refreshing change from all the black interiors we see. All the seats have been recovered in comfortable leather that begs to be sat in. And just dig the wrap-around rear seats that show virtually zero wear on this very sleek design. Stainless steel flashes throughout the white interior and the subtle woodgrained accents remind you that this is a top-of-the-line automobile. This 'Bird came loaded from the factory, and you'll find options including a power driver's seat, power windows (including power vent windows), power front disc brakes, and factory A/C. Out back you'll find a spotless trunk, which features all its original panels. In 1966, Ford made the decision to allow customers to option their 428 big block into a Thunderbird. Amazingly, this marriage of luxury and performance only cost $86 over the base engine. Fully detailed, with small touches like painted inner fenders and firewall to match the body really take it to the next level. Covered in the famous FoMoCo blue, the 428 features all the correct 428 decals and has been equipped with a new Holley 4-barrell electric choke carburetor to ensure reliable startups. The brake booster and master cylinder have been upgraded along with the A/C to modern R134a standards. Bolted to the big block is a 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the stock rear-end. Power flows to the pavement through 15" steel rims with handsome 5-spoke wheelcovers that have been wrapped in a set of 215/75R15 whitewall radials. Included in the sale is the original dealer's invoice, owners manual, restoration receipts, and a reproduction window sticker. When it comes to luxury and performance, it doesn't get much better than this desirable '66 Thunderbird. The rule is that special cars will always be special, and this 1957 Thunderbird shows you why. It's the ideal combination of appealing looks and great-driving hardware, a show and go car that never wanted to ride on a trailer and instead just likes to cruise. Refinished about four years ago in its original Starmist Blue, this is a great-looking '57 'Bird. It's a somewhat unusual color, perfect for the pastel '50s but a refreshing change from red, white, or black. The workmanship in the repaint is nice overall, with a few signs of use because, as I said, this car was a fair-weather driver for many years, which is exactly how it should be. On the other hand, it does not appear to have ever been wrecked or a rust bucket, so major surgery was probably not necessary to get it into shape. As a result, the doors feel solid, the fender skirts fit well, and the hood sits flush. The peaked fins are attractive and the trim around the jet-exhaust taillights looks bright and crisp. In fact, all the brightwork looks great, with some of it being restored and some of it being excellent original stuff. It's not a show winner, but it really looks great going down the road. Likewise, the interior is a mixture of restored components and originality, blending into a comfortable, casual driver's environment that's ideal for Sunday morning drives. The two-tone blue is a great choice and looks right in the light blue 'Bird and the seat covers, carpets, and door panels are all quite presentable overall. The gauges are original and with the exception of the tachometer, they're all fully functional, and the big steering wheel is covered with a blue leather wrap to make it easier to grab. Seat belts have been added for safety and Thunderbird logo floor mats keep everything looking tidy. There's a brand new blue canvas convertible top that fits better than the original and a correct white porthole hardtop which is the combination specified on the door tag. The trunk is outfitted with a new mat and a matching full-sized spare with jack assembly. The 312 cubic inch V8 is a reliable partner in the Thunderbird, offering smooth, unobtrusive performance when you're cruising, but plenty of grunt to move with vigor when needed. The problematic "teapot" carburetor is gone, replaced by a 4-barrel Holley, which is a very smart upgrade, but the rest of the engine bay is largely stock. It wears the usual dress-up kit, Ford Red engine enamel, and correct cork gasket for the hood scoop. Power steering is a welcome addition on any old car and makes this Thunderbird easy to drive around town and all the belts and hoses are new. A recent tune up puts it in great operating condition, so it starts easily and purrs along with a crisp burble from the recent dual exhaust system. A 2-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission clicks through the gears and the 3.00 gears out back make it a fine long-distance tourer. The underside is probably original, but there are no red flags or major issues waiting for you and it sits on correct bias-ply wide whites for a period look. A nice driver-grade early 'Bird with an unusual color combination and a lot of charm. If you're looking for an easy way to enjoy old cars, it's still hard to beat a Thunderbird. Sure, the Corvette set the stage, but the Thunderbird introduced the personal luxury car, a concept that has proven remarkably durable in the 50-odd years since its introduction. This lovely 1955 T-Bird shows you why these are such enduring favorites, and why no collection is complete without one today. If you ask someone to close their eyes and think of a Thunderbird, this Torch Red roadster is quite likely what they'll imagine. Beautifully proportioned, neatly styled, and with neat little details throughout that told the world that Ford was serious about their 2-seater. This one was restored a few years ago and has seen some use since then, but you really can't go wrong with an early 'Bird. The paint is bright, offering a depth and clarity that even the best finishes in 1955 couldn't match, and while it shows a few nicks and bumps, none of it detracts from the pure '50s fun this car represents. The '55's trim proportions, simple lines, and lack of extras make them a favorite among collectors, and it's easy to see why. Body gaps are decent and the fender skirts fit flush with the quarter panels, indicative of a car that has never needed major surgery in that area. The chrome is nicely refinished, and those details I mentioned, including the hash marks on the fenders, the hood scoop, and jet-inspired taillights, are all in excellent shape. Red and white is the theme inside, too, where you'll find a neatly restored interior that has all the correct bells and whistles. The two-tone bench seat is supportive with firm foam under the supple seat cover, and better yet, it's power actuated! Engine-turned panels sweep from the doors onto the dash, giving the 'Bird a racy feel, and the execution is crisp and highly detailed. The gauges appear to be a combination of original and restored pieces and they all work properly. An AM/FM/cassette head unit has been fitted in the dash but fits so well you almost don't notice it. And here's an unusual fact: you could have either a folding convertible top or a removable hardtop at no cost, but getting both was extra, so this one carries only a hardtop, which is a porthole unit from a later model. The trunk offers a correct rubber mat, CD changer, and a compact spare that definitely frees up some valuable cargo space. The only engine available in 1955 was a P-code 292 cubic inch "Y-block" V8, which when linked to an automatic transmission, makes 198 horsepower. Rebuilt and detailed when the car was restored, it fires easily and wears a proper Thunderbird dress-up kit that includes a chrome air cleaner and those gorgeous finned cast aluminum valve covers. Ford Red paint on the block still looks good and the unusual air cleaner makes use of the hood scoop for fresh air. Underneath, it's extremely solid and clean, with body-colored floors framed by a black frame and a brand-new dual exhaust system that exits through the rear bumper guards. Recent 205/75/15 whitewall radials have been fitted and wear full wheel covers that look appropriate. A fully-sorted first-year Thunderbird is something that every hobbyist should experience. This one isn't perfect, but if you want a great driver with a lot of class, this 'Bird is hard to beat.
