When the Thunderbird was introduced it created a new market segment to become known as the “personal luxury car.” The sporty two-seat convertible took the marketplace by storm by combining the flair of a sports car with the comfort and elegance of a boulevard cruiser. The car was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show in January of 1954 to compete with Chevrolet’s Corvette and has been a collector car from it’s inception. The ’57 T-Bird enjoyed a newly restyled grille, stretched rear sheet metal introducing the wings of the new Bird, a fresh bumper design, larger taillights and improved seating. Performance improvements included larger openings for improved cooling, revised springs rate, larger brakes, stiffer cross-members, a 12-volt battery system and new 14” wheels. These improvements made the car more desirable than the competition and created a more stable and capable driving experience. One big improvement for the 1957 model was the introduction of a new engine selection. A “E” model with dual four-barrel carburetors boasting 270 horsepower. This matching numbers 1957 Ford Thunderbird, finished in Raven Black, came from the factory equipped with the rare and coveted “E”-code options. It has the 312 cubic inch overhead valve V8 Engine with Dual Holley Four-Barrel Carburetors producing 270 horsepower. There is a three-speed manual gearbox with optional overdrive (available on only 4% of the T-Birds produced) and four-wheel drum brakes. These rare birds created more horsepower than contemporary Chevrolet’s fuel injected 283. Only 977 were produced to qualify to run in NASCAR Speed Weeks events at Daytona Beach where it won its class by beating a Corvette.

This car fresh out of the barn and there is no reserve on the auction. This car is a little rough perhaps it is basically a parts car, or but I have seen far worse restored to pristine condition and this one has some good bones. It is missing the motor but is otherwise pretty complete. If you are restoring a car like this, it would be a great car to pick the parts you need for your restoration and sell off the rest and break even or perhaps make a little extra to fund your restoration. Priced to sell! Finish -- Grade D-: Very weathered, appears it may have been re-painted since new. Body -- Grade C-: Body has some great sheet metal; doors, trunk lid, hood and front fenders are very solid and rust free. Please view photos closely. For sale my 1962 Ford Thunderbird: The good: Car runs great and drives like it should it has a new brake system, tires and American racing torque thrust rims. The battery is one year old and has been recently tuned up. Carb has been adjusted, timing was adjusted and the distributer was addressed this year. The carpets are new and sets are in good condition. Headliner is a little dirty but no rips. It is a southern car I bought in off of my late great Uncles estate four years ago and brought it up to Michigan from Tennessee. Over all I give this car a 6.5 out of 10. From everything I can see it has an original 390 motor and transmission. Now the bad the dash and radio will need to be addressed if you want the interior to be complete. The paint on both doors and the drivers rear quarter panel would need to be addressed to make it a great car. But like I said its a 6.5 and is a driver not a show car. Good condition 1961 Tbird. Runs good. Body is good. Transmission is fine, carb has been rebuilt. Tires are good, radio works AM only. Brakes have been redone. (Still a squeak on brakes though). New gas tank last year. Steering wheel swings to the side for easy entry and exit. I have original air filter cover. All gauges work except for the clock. All lights work. Power steering works. Car is equipped with factory air. All glass is good. Power windows work but back windows are slow. 79,559 miles. Has been repainted at some point. Issues- minor rust, hole in drivers side floor pan size of a nickel, air conditioning does not cool down car, separation in rear seat upholstery, squeak in brakes, dash is cracked. I have had this car for 3 years and it's been a lot of fun. This is not a show car. It's a good driver. I have a fairly low reserve on this auction.
