In our lifetime, the automobile culture has revolved around finding ways to incorporate what is distinctly American, resulting in some of the most satisfying driving experiences. For example, the V8 motor as we know it today made its appearance in American muscle cars in the 50's and has become an iconic symbol of one of the classic American automobile styles. From the owner:Having something unique to drive with the power and sound of a V8 has long been a passion of mine. Over the last forty years I have built a Vega V8, an Opal GT V8, two Datsun 240Z's, a Luv truck, and two S10's (all Chevy small blocks). I began developing an understanding for engineering speed and reliability in the 1960’s while in southern California and had the privilege to work with some pioneers. So after some coaxing by fellow enthusiasts’ suggesting I was the person to build the quintessential Colorado Corvette hybrid, I began the project in earnest. The vision was to build what GM engineers would build if they had free reign. This labor of love was built to be an everyday driver as dependable as any new car vehicle. No expense was spared; much research, dedicated resources and hundreds of hours were invested to make the vision a reality. The driveline of choice was the LS3 engine and Tremec 6speed standard transmission. The LS3 crate motor is the equivalent to the 2013 factory Corvette engine with a more aggressive cam. Not only is this combination the best performance package, it returns the same fuel economy and in some cases better fuel economy than the original stock drive train. Driving 80mph, with the 3.73 rear end ratio the truck tacs 1775RPM while returning 24.5 mpg out on the highway.MSRP-window sticker was $27470.00 and an equal amount was spent performing the conversion. In order to retain all the factory chassis components without cutting or compromising the already well-engineered Colorado many special challenges were overcome such as $2000.00 custom long tube exhaust headers, $1200.00 for a custom wiring harness (13 months to engineer and test), along with 2000.00 for hours of Dyno tuning and untold hours making the computers communicate with each other. Anybody can stick after market gauges in a dash and wire a new motor. Getting the computer to integrate as a factory unit with all the new components requires skill, experience and some very dedicated professionals interested in doing the job right. The truck presents well and other than the engine and transmission Is completely as came from the factory; no cuts or modifications or cobbling was done and I am told by all that have viewed the truck that it is nicer than if it had been factory built. In 2007 at a Super Chevy meet a GM employee shot over a hundred photos of this truck and a couple of years later GM came out with a small V8 in the extra and crew cab models. This truck took top honors winning every trophy at a recent southern California Colorado meet and show. The truck currently has new BF Goodrich tires all and all new brakes. The LS3 crate motor has less than 20,000 miles and the transmission was refreshed and a new LS7(Z06) clutch assembly installed within the last 20,000 miles. The inside was completely stripped and a double layer of Dynamat was put on the floor and all inside walls including the roof. The very cold A/C is great even in 110 degree Phoenix summers. All A/C lines were custom made and routed for a clean look under the hood. The battery was relocated behind the passenger seat.It is a regular occurrence to get challenged by other fast cars and a regular occurrence to then be stopped to discuss “what just happened” as this truck seldom takes a back seat to any other high performance challengers. The only time this truck was ever parked outside was on cross country trips and the undercarriage presents as well as the top side. There has been no accidents or paintwork or damage. If the reserve is met I would be happy to drive this truck anywhere in the U.S.Please contact the owner Dave Allen at [email protected] or 602.228.3642 to discuss any questions or request additional information. There is no way to cover all the details in this listing. I am assisting the owner by listing his truck. So feel free to contact the owner, you will find him knowledgeable and eager to talk.
