This 1964 Oldsmobile Starfire hardtop is one of those unusual \'60s hot rods that were favorites of the guys who knew performance but wanted a little more luxury than they\'d get with an industrial-strength Impala. Nicely restored in a great color combination, this potent Olds has a swagger that only comes from being the biggest gun in town. The low-key Provincial White paint job is the perfect background for all the wonderful details that make the Oldsmobile special. Never mind the fact that it\'s super straight, a fact accented by the crease that runs from nose to tail and giving the car a slab-sided look that demands quality bodywork. Then there\'s the peak trimmed in stainless trim that runs along the tops of the fenders, terminating in mini fins out back and a matching strake down the center of the hood. The finish is shiny, no doubt about that, but it looks like 1960s paint, giving this car a wonderful period feel that will take you back to the glory days of horsepower and octane. Of course the trim has been restored as necessary, with bright bumpers, a great-looking grille, and the rear end that was surely rocket-inspired. And while you\'re looking around, be sure to check out the very ornate ribbed rocker moldings that are in outstanding condition and virtually impossible to replace as well as the delicate curve of the rear window. The future had arrived at Oldsmobile! With bucket seats and a console, this was the car that your father wished he\'d bought instead of the family sedan. Someone checked all the right boxes, starting with red leather upholstery and adding desirable options like a power driver\'s seat, power windows, cruise control, a tilt column, and factory A/C. Performance wasn\'t an afterthought, and you\'re reminded of that by the factory tach mounted down on the center console, just ahead of the slender shifter for the automatic transmission. The steering wheel is nicely restored, the dash is full of bright trim, and the wide speedometer face is bright and crisp, all suggestive of a car that\'s been properly maintained and restored as needed. Those cool floor mats add to the upscale flair of the Olds and seem right at home in the non-too-subtle interior that was all about style. There\'s also a massive trunk, which carries a full-sized spare and jack assembly as well as about an acre of bright red mats. The big gun in Oldsmobile\'s arsenal in 1964 was the \"Ultra High Compression\" 394 cubic inch V8. In this case, that means about 10.25: 1, which is still streetable on today\'s pump fuels and you\'d better believe it cackles. It\'s neatly detailed with a big air cleaner with reproduction decals, and the red motor underneath looks like it means business, although the plumbing for the A/C system blocks some of the view. Power steering and brakes were probably mandatory on a big cruiser like this, and you haven\'t lived until you\'ve hammered a big piece of luxury muscle like this on a road trip. Barking through a surprisingly aggressive dual exhaust system, it feels a thousand pounds lighter than it is, probably thanks to the quick-shifting Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The ride is luxury car smooth but it doesn\'t get hung up in corners like some of its corporate cousins, and it\'s probably led a good judging by the condition of the underside. Rolling stock consists of chrome smoothie wheels and hubcaps, which aren\'t original but look awesome, especially with fat 215/75/14 whitewall radials. A great factory sleeper? A luxury car with a bad attitude? Or just a plain cool car with lots of appeal at a rock-bottom price? How about all of the above? Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
