Although the crew cab is shared with other XT trucks, the MXT uses headlights from the 9000-Series trucks on modified fenders. Due to its intended off-highway use, the MXT is equipped with four wheels instead of six; the narrower rear pickup bed is a custom-built design for Navistar instead of the Ford-sourced unit. The MXT is powered by a 300 hp version of the VT365 V8 and equipped with a 5-speed Allison 2000 transmission. The GVWR ranged from 14,000 to 18,000 lbs.[7] Along with the standard version of the MXT, Navistar introduced a special-edition MXT Limited, featuring monochromatic exterior trim and luxury interior trim.[8] The new MXT comes with International's VT365, a 300hp, 530-lb-ft, V-8, turbodiesel engine. International claims about a 60 percent improvement in fuel economy over a similarly sized and powered gas engine. International MXT Features: Leather-wrapped, tilt steering wheel; remote keyless-entry system; power door locks; power windows; block heater; and long-lasting basecoat/clearcoat paint. MXT Sport Exterior Package: Power, heated mirrors; high-polished chrome front bumper with tow hooks; chrome hood side vent; chrome fuel cap; chrome tailgate handle; left- and right-side, anodized-aluminum cab steps; anodized-aluminum step rear bumper; and frame-mounted, trailer-receiver hitch. Prestige Package: Ivory-faced sport gauges; metallic silver interior accents; padded, full-length front armrests; black-leather front and rear seats; custom floor mats with embroidered International MXT emblems; embroidered accents and gray piping; center console; and plush, full-cab carpeting. After a century of building all varieties of trucks and settling into mostly commercial vehicles, International celebrated its 100th birthday by reentering the medium-duty truck market with its brand-new MXT. Aimed at an upscale crowd that still demands the looks and performance of a real truck, the MXT is a true 4X4 that can tow fifth-wheels with ease. Although the MXT is labeled a pickup, it is by no means small. At 8 feet wide and nearly 8 feet tall, the 10,500-pound truck has other specs to match. It's born from the same ideals as a large truck designed for military use--it offers carrying flexibility, durability in extreme conditions, and incredible strength. However, a truck like this, tricked out for civilian use, has just one purpose--letting its owner show off. That's exactly what the new MXT does. We first saw this truck three years ago, when International, a major player in the civilian heavy-truck industry and increasingly in the world of military transport, unveiled the military-spec SmarTruck III concept and a commercial variant (Truck Trend, July/August 2004). The commercial version became the MXT, an intimidating, highly capable machine. Riding on 40-inch tires, the three-and-a-half-ton MXT is seven and a half feet tall, eight feet wide, and 21 feet long. Its 300-horsepower V-8 diesel engine makes 530 pound-feet of torque, which is pushed through an Allison 2200 RDS five-speed automatic transmission. Bringing the truck to a halt are four-channel ABS hydraulic brakes. The truck's large blunt nose and bumper cutaways let it climb like a goat over obstacles--grinding them up with all four wheels in one of two 4WD gear ranges. The short rear overhang prevents the truck from getting hung up--but even if it did, the aircraft-carrier-size tow hooks would make quick work of hauling it off whatever smaller vehicle it was stuck on. In the back, the deep, seven-foot cargo box is lined with chromed checker plate and is built to carry two tons of cargo while the standard rear hitch will tow another eight. It hauls these weights on a 6500-pound front-drive axle and an 11,000-pound-capacity rear one. Inside, it carries five in upgraded, air-conditioned comfort. Its crew cab rides on an airbag suspension system that isolates the cab's movements from those of the chassis. What's it like to drive something this size? Because the MXT is equipped with an automatic transmission and power steering, maneuvering it is surprisingly easy, and the tall seating and truck's blunt features offer a solid, spatial sense. Lane management is a snap and the backup camera prevents any Prius from being accidentally crushed. The one caveat is the turning radius--it reminds us of a line from an old country song: "Give me my 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around." It's kind of like that. Still, there are benefits that make up for the need to make wide turns. Pulling up to a stoplight inBarrie(nearToronto,Canada), the MXT slid in alongside a tinny-sounding racer wannabe piloted by a driver who felt the need to share his thumping bass with the rest of the community. His eye line was about even with the truck's runningboard. When we did a decibel test by revving the diesel (in neutral) to 2000 rpm, the thumping bass miraculously stopped. 2008 International MXT 4x4 truck. Stock air ride cab with air seats, super rare and hard to find stock tires (plus one complete extra set) and with lots of extras parts like a spare tire (had to buy it separately), catalytic converter (paid $2,600) and spare disc brakes. I even have the last available set of new floor mats sold (still new in the box). I never thought I would sell this truck and have collected all the hard to find stuff. The truck is in a climate control garage kept and runs great. Thinking I would keep this truck forever I had the factory International head engine tech (at Brattain International in Portland, OR) go through the engine and bulletproof it for me. That was just under $5,000 for that service last year. This truck needs nothing to get in it and drive it across the country. I've never done any off roading in it and most my miles are from several summer vacation trips across the country. This trucks gets more attention then any other car I've seen or owned. No joke. In this truck you can not go anywhere without someone wanted to talk to you or giving the thumbs up. It has an on board air system that runs the air ride seats, train horn and has an air hose in case you need to air up the tires. The train horn was installed with a factory connector (works as a normal horn on the steering wheel) so no wires were cut and the stock horn is still in place and can be hooked up in 30 seconds. It has a custom built sound system, but again the stock factory speaker box is included and could be put back in. The stock tires went out of production so I bought the last set I could find. You can use other manufactures for tires, but I like keeping the stock look so that's why I bought an extra set (thousands spent on the set). I have brand new in the box oil, fuel and air filters that are included with the truck. The oil was just changed about 1,000 miles ago and I've always used synthetic. Transmission fluid was done about a 1,000 miles ago too (synthetic factory fill). Detailed records, brand new extra parts, spares, and nearly impossible to find stuff are all included. Like I said, I never thought I would sell this truck, but I'm getting older and I just don't drive it as much lately. All these MXT trucks were painted by a truck company and I do not feel they have show quality paint from new. This one is in average shape with normal wear and some small scratches. I always wanted the grabber blue with white stripes. When I found the one D&M had for sale I knew I wanted the car because it was 2010 grabber blue with red stripe ( never seen the combo before ) I always said I would never buy a car sight unseen but everything just felt right. Either you're so mad at the product or the seller you write a scathing report or you're so enthralled 2 days after you buy you gush with enthusiasm. I started looking for a Corvette in October of 2013 all over the Midwest and D & M Motorsports was just one of the dealers I pestered for 4 months, in those months I met with Angie and Dave checking out the cars I previously viewed and all their new arrivals. At no time was I pressured to purchase and every meeting was cordial and all my questions were answered no matter how long it took. In February 2014 they got in the car I wanted and I made an offer they agreed too and with the contingency I could have the car checked out. Not only did they agree to my terms they even stored the car for a month till the weather broke and at no charge. The whole experience was 1st class and I was never treated better by a dealer new or used.
