Gmc Typhoon Cars for sale
1-15 of 56
Oak Park, Illinois
Up for sale is this rare 1992 GMC Typhoon with a clear Illinois, USA title. As you probably already know, this is a special, limited-production vehicle from GM with AWD, turbo V6 power and automatic transmission. It is similar to the GMC Syclone and GMC Sonoma GT. This car recently received the Sportmachines tune-up which included big plug wires, Ngk UR6 plugs, MSD cap and rotor, Mobil 1 oil and filter . The truck has also received a recent PCV valve, new gas tank, new fuel filter and new battery. This is Typhoon number 2434 in Apple Red paint with an Argent Gray interior as shown in the pictures. Only 345 were made in this combination and year and only 446 Typhoons were ever made in this color combo. This vehicle has less than 72,400 miles (116,300 km) but the odometer is slowly rising since I drive the truck regularly. The good: Rare, fast, exciting, collectible and even practical! These will not depreciate; they will maintain or even increase in value as they get rarer and rarerClear Illinois titleRecent tuneup from Sportmachines: big plug wires, Ngk UR6 plugs, MSD cap and rotor, Mobil 1 oil and filterNew: recent PCV valve, gas tank, fuel filter and batteryLow mileage, only 72,400 miles (116,300 km) or so (going up as I drive it on weekends to car shows)Paint is glossy in like-new condition except for some bubbling (described below)The interior is, and I rarely say this, perfect. No tears, no rips, no scuffs, no scratches. The leather surfaces are soft and in beautiful shapeThe engine pulls hard and builds boost as it shouldThe transmission shifts correctly; never misses a beat and is smooth but firm in this shifts.EGR delete with stock EGR system includedPioneer radio with Bluetooth and aftermarket speakersBrand new rear glass with wiper delete and spoiler was put back on (original wiper and motor included)Custom-made "Typhoon" number plate matching the number of the truck is affixed to the intake manifoldAftermarket air filter3"inch cat back exhaustDeep-tinted windows (check your state/country’s legal requirements if this concerns you)A/C delete for more power, less weight and less complexity. A/C components are included in the sale of the truck.Factory-installed oil filter relocation to behind the headlight. Makes oil changes very easy!Tires are in good shape The bad: A/C (as mentioned above) is inoperative but all the parts are includedPaint is bubbling in various areas of the front doors, roof and lower tailgate. I have done my best to show the worst places in the pictures. Rest assured the underside, door structure, tailgate structure and frame/body of the truck are in good shape but the surface of the paint and corrosion is what you can see in the picturesThere is one shallow dent on the driver's door, difficult to photograph but I will point it out if need beThere is a nickel-sized flake of gray paint missing from the drivers side rear body kit, behind the rear wheel. There are a couple of areas of scratched-off paint where the doors meet the cab and where the hood meets the fender/cowl. Touch up paint will go a long way here; nothing to worry about. I have some GM red paint and I will include it with the sale of the truckThere is one (and only one, believe it or not) rattle from the driver’s door when going over bumps.Small oil leak from the front of the engine area. It may just be the oil drain plug but I haven't narrowed it down yetThe OEM wheels are a little tired looking. No scrapes, bends or curbing, just need a refinish to be show-qualityHorn only works sometimes, I think it is a sticking relay History of this vehicle: A young man, who went by “Ty”, purchased this vehicle and those close to him noted his love for the truck. He played basketball for Columbia before an injury sidelined him. He was working at his “dream job” as a research associate in the World Trade Center before his tragic death during the 9/11 attacks. His father kept the truck until it was sold in 2009. Coincidentally, a later owner had a parking sticker on the window showing the date “9-11”. The sticker has been left on the truck for years as a respectful memory of the truck's earlier caretaker. I am told it was repossessed at some point before ending up in Chicago when the previous owner bought the truck. I bought the truck recently intending to show it around the Midwest in 2016 but I have since decided it is too much truck and too valuable for me to keep. If you have any interesting trades I would be interested in another “fun” car plus cash. http://www.sportmachines.com/members/truckind.php?truckid=206http://www.college.columbia.edu/cct_archive/may02/may02_obituaries2.htmlhttp://www.nytimes.com/2002/01/20/national/portraits/POG-20UGOLYN.htmlhttp://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32190 Viewing/ShippingVehicle is available for viewing/pickup in the Chicago area in the USA. No joyrides please; bring cash if you wish to be treated as a serious buyer. I also have a 50+ picture gallery online and an extensive video tour of the car available upon request. I may be willing to deliver the vehicle for a fee to be arranged. Delivery/transport to the Canadian border or perhaps even across may be arranged for the right reimbursement. I have no problem with cooperating with the buyer’s domestic or international shipping arrangements either.PaymentI require a deposit of $500 via PayPal within 48 hours of the close the of the auction. For the remaining payment, I will accept cash in-person. Other payment options may be available but assume they are not before bidding or contacting me.

Just things that I haven't gotten around to such as replacing the RKE module, replace rear window shocks, mirror lights, etc. There is no "cancer rust". It's not rust free, but almost all of it is surface rust. There is a very small spot on each of the front fenders near the back of the front arch. Note that I have MANY more pictures of the truck and it's condition, so please don't hesitate to ask or ask any questions. Nice and clean, but could use a good detail job done on it. Any method other than cash will require a hold for funds to clear before releasing the truck and title. I do not need to sell this truck. The only reason I am considering selling is to replace it with another Typhoon that I have always wanted. If the other truck sells (or if I change my mind) this will be off the market and I will continue to enjoy it. Serious Inquiries Only SHIPPING: Buyer is responsible for shipping, however, I will assist in coordinating and logistics. Depending on location, may be able to meet. If it goes on a transport, I will picture and video the truck prior to be loaded and after being loaded and send to the buyer.

CAPECARS store UP FOR SALE IS A 1993 GMC TYPHOON #709 OF 4900 MADE.THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 61,XXX MILES AND IS IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE.JUST HAD RECENT TUNE UP AND NEW TIRES AND IS COMPLETELY STK WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A MAGNA FLOW MUFFLER.WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK I HAD IT DETAILED AND BUFFED DUE TO A DULL FINISH WHICH NOW LOOKS GREAT AND I ALSO HAD FRONT AND REAR BUMPER INCLUDING THE GROUND EFFECTS REPAINTED BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT BUFF OUT.THIS TRUCK ALSO HAD AC CHECKED AND BLOWS COLD AIR AND WOULD MAKE A GREAT DRIVER.THE INTERIOR DOES HAVE SOME WEAR BUT SEATS ARE NOT TORN OR NEEDIND DYE'D.THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A LIMITED PIECE OF HISTORY. The GMC Typhoon is a high-performance version of the GMC Jimmy SUV. Produced in 1992 and 1993, the Typhoon was based on the 1991 GMC Jimmy SUV.Both the GMC Syclone and Typhoon trucks featured a Mitsubishi TD06-17C/8 cm2 turbocharger and Garrett Water/Air intercooler attached to a 4.3 L LB4 V6 intake manifolds, fuel system, exhaust manifolds, and a 48mm twin-bore throttle body from the 5.7 L GM Small-Block engine. All Syclones and Typhoons had a 4L60 4-speed automatic transmission and a BorgWarner 1372 (Syclone)/4472 (Typhoon) transfer case splitting torque with 35% forward and 65% to the rear wheels. Both trucks featured all-wheel drive, upgraded brakes, and sport modifications to the standard suspensions. Unlike the Syclone, the Typhoon featured an air-operated self-leveling rear suspension. Output was 280 hp (209 kW) and 360 lb·ft (488 N·m).The Typhoon was capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds and could do a quarter-mile run in 14.1 seconds at 95 mph (153 km/h). Car and Driver compared the Syclone's performance favorably to the Ferrari 348ts, Chevrolet Corvette, and Nissan 300ZX Turbo. It cost US$29,970, though the magazine criticized the plasticy interior pieces. All three trucks were built for GMC by Production Automotive Services of Troy, Michigan. Aside from a handful of prototypes, only 4,697 Typhoons were built by GMC: 2,497 in 1992, and 2,200 in 1993. Unlike regular production Syclones, Typhoons were offered in various color configurations that differed by year, with black/black being the most common. 1993Black w/ Black (1,008 Total)Black w/ Gray (98 Total)Frost White w/ White (532 Total***)Frost White w/ Gray (115 Total)Apple Red w/ Apple Red (77 Total)Apple Red w/ Gray (101 Total)Forest Green Metallic w/ Gray (210 Total)Garnet Red w/ Gray (24 Total)Royal Blue Metallic w/ Gray (35 Total***) Call or text Dave at 573-275-9663

1991 GMC Syclone Pickup Only 9,538 miles and one of 113 “Saudi” Syclones. What is a “Saudi” Syclone? In 1991 GMC exported 113 new Syclones to the Middle East for resale. Those units became known as “Saudi Syclones”.Apparently the desire for the World’s fastest production-built pickup truck was not as demanding in the Middle East as in the U.S.In late 1994, 31 unsold Syclones were returned to the GMC facility in Pontiac, Michigan.30 were sold in a lottery to GMC (only) employees and came with a full 3-year/36,000 mile factory warranty from date of sale. One unit was used as a source for parts (VIN #2590).All 31 VIN #s are accounted for.In VIN sequence this is #30 of the 31 “Saudi Syclones” returned to the U.S. Features include:4.3 liter turbo-charged V6Automatic transmissionAll-wheel drivePower disc brakesPower steeringAir conditioningTilt steering columnAM-FM cassette stereoPower windows and door locksFlawless interior with factory bucket seats and consoleFactory tonneau cover still looks newOriginal 16” Syclone alloys are in perfect conditionOriginal Firestone tires with approximately 50-60% tread remainingOriginal and beautiful black exterior finish with ZERO issues An amazing factory-original survivor of 23 years and quite likely one of the lowest mileage Syclones anywhere.Original unopened owner’s manual, dealer brochures, service manuals and repair manual included along with a SPOTLESS Carfax. 1992 GMC Typhoon 4.3L V6 TurboCharged AWD, Factory CD, Keyless Entry, Autometer Gauges, Full Cosmetic Restoration Very Rare 1 of only 132 Ever Produced in Bright Teal Up for sale this week at Canyon State Classics is a Very Rare Find!! 1992 GMC Typhoon! With Only 34,000 Original Miles!! This Typhoon was bought new in New York but came to Arizona in 1998 with just 9k Miles and just underwent a full cosmetic restoration led by a Typhoon/Cyclone expert and no expenses were spared. This is a rare opportunity to own one of the best collector grade Typhoons on the market in one of the rarest colors produced! Carfax shows a minor blemish in 2003, but we have photo evidence of the damage, only a small crease to the rear tail gate which was professionally repaired during the restoration. The Typhoon was the Jimmy-based SUV version of GMC's Cyclone, a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive truck that had technology and performance to rival supercars of the day. With a turbocharged and inter-cooled 4.3-liter V-6 mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission, the Typhoon made a whopping 280-hp and 360 lb.-ft. of torque. That power was routed to all four wheels with a torque distribution of 35-65 front to rear. This gave the Typhoon a 0-60 time of just 5.3-seconds, and hit the quarter mile in just 14.1 at 95-mph. The Typhoon also featured upgraded brakes and suspension to keep all of that power under control, and an air-operated self-leveling rear suspension that wasn't available on the Cyclone. While GMC made almost 4,700 Typhoons from 1992-1993, finding one in such good shape as this Bright Teal Version here in Scottsdale, AZ. is a tall order. Bright teal was only available on 1992 models, and less than 200 total were made. A Total of 132 Teal were Made!! Besides, is there any color that screams 1990s more than neon teal? Mechanically this truck was just gone through by a performance mechanical shop here in Scottsdale and given a clean bill of health. Everything works as it should and any leaks or drips have been addressed. A very clean A pillar guage package has been installed using Autometer Phantom gauges and monitor Boost and Air/Fuel mixture. The original A-Pillar trim is included. Cosmetically you will be hard pressed to find a better unit. A no expense spared fully repaint was just completed and this truck was fully disassembled. All glass removed, doors pulled, all jams and hinges fully re-conditioned. All Bumpers and Cladding fit perfectly with no funny gaps or issues. The special 2-piece GMC wheels were pulled apart, powder coated, then correctly machined and reassembled. The interior is flawless with all original leather in outstanding supple condition. Perfect dash and door panels with no cracks or damage. The interior gauges, buttons, switches and lights all work like new. Even the original Delco CD player still works. The interior is finished off with its original Typhoon embroidered floor mats and all original keys and keyless entry remotes. The Typhoon started a performance SUV movement that we're reaping the benefits of today, and has a cult following among car and truck fans alike. With a few simple performance upgrades, the Typhoon can hold its own with performance cars of today too. Pick this one up today, as prices are sure to appreciate in the coming years! Any further questions please call Jon at 480-703-2337. The car has a clean Arizona title and is ready to go. The car is located in Sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. This SUPER SUV features a 4.3 Liter turbocharged LB4 V-6 engine that develops 280 hp and 360 ft. lbs. of torque. With a 4-speed automatic transmission and ALL WHEEL-DRIVE, the Typhoon accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds and does a quarter-mile run in 14.1 seconds. Combine that with upgraded brakes and air-operated, self-leveling sport suspension and this little SUV is on the same performance level as the Ferrari 348ts and Chevrolet Corvette. Here is Car & Driver article that explains: http://www.sportmachines.com/wiki/Car+and+Driver+March+1992 To this day, the Typhoon retains legions of loyal fans but with fewer than 5,000 built, they’ve become very thin on the ground and difficult to find in well-cared-for condition. Typhoon glory days are at least two decades behind us, and the years since have generally been unkind in the hands of juveniles and second hand owners. Nicely preserved or fully refurbished examples are highly sought after today. They are the ones true collectors lust for. It'd be a nice surprise to find an example of the species that, despite being over 2 decades old, still looks BETTER than the day it rolled off the showroom floor. The most likely place to unearth such a rare gem would be Southern California, with its mild climate and large number of SUV enthusiasts. Such an amazing find is the highly refurbished example presented here! Living a sheltered life among a private collection owned by a prominent businessman in Newport Beach, this SUV has been FULLY RECONDITIONED BOTH MECHANICALLY AND COMSETICALLY. Hence, a unique opportunity arises to obtain a coveted Typhoon, one that enjoyed a most beneficial climate, pampered beyond belief by a mature owner with big pockets and the willingness to pay up for the best service money can buy. Let's check out this dream find now, inside and out! Exterior: The custom 2-stage, metallic gray exterior with brand new black leather interior places this Super SUV a cut above the rest. At a cost of $4000, the SUV was professionally stripped and re-painted. No collision or rust repair was needed. The finish looks so deep you could dive into it! The factory front spoiler, side skirts, 18" alloy wheels with low profile tires and aggressive stance reminds us - this is no ordinary Jimmy or Blazer. In fact, this fine example of the marque could be proudly displayed a local car show or Concours d'Elegance. Newer 255/40ZR18” radial tires radials mounted to custom 18" wheels with "Typhoon" logos alloys show amazing detail. Speaking of detail, let us stress how straight the body is, how glossy the paint: if you wouldn't know differently, you'd think to be looking at a 3-year old, not a 23-year old SUV. This one is that clean! Let’s have a look inside. The brand new supple leather interior is immaculate. Befitting a top-level prestige automobile, the Typhoon was offered in one version only: fully loaded. If you're here looking at this ad, then more than likely you already know what a GMC Typhoon is! This Aspen blue Typhoon is known as the "Lethal Weapon 3" Typhoon because it made an appearance in the movie back in the early 90's. The Typhoon features a 4.3 v-6 engine that is turbo charged and intercooled from the factory to produce around 300 hp in stock form! Mated with an all wheel drive system, these trucks were known as stoplight killers back in the day due to their neck snapping launches! Its getting harder and harder to find a clean, unmolested Typhoon now a days, so this is a perfect opportunity to own a piece of American muscle history! 1992 GMC Typhoon #0404 aka “Lethal Weapon 3 Typhoon” Aspen Blue/ gray cladding. 1 of 28 Typhoons made with this color combination. Aspen blue is one of, if not THE most desirable color combination that was ever made for the Typhoons. This particular Typhoon is rust free and still has its factory paint job which shines up nicely for 22 year old paint. Most Aspen blue Typhoons were repainted at some point in their life due to poor paint quality from the factory that year. It does have some flaws here and there but looks very nice overall. No dents or dings anywhere on the body. The original tailgate had some issues with the paint falling off along the top half of the gate, so another CLEAN rust free tailgate was acquired, painted to match, and installed. The original tailgate is included with the sale though. The cladding is all original and in good overall shape. There is one piece that is cracked, it is located behind the passenger door in front of the back tire. I do have the replacement part for it which is included with the sale but the color is a shade off so it was never installed. There is also a scuff on the front right corner of the front bumper from where I clipped a board pulling into my garage with it. Last year I had the undercarriage of the truck totally detailed. It is VERY clean and rust free underneath! The interior is very nice, and clean as well. The factory radio was replaced at some point in its life and a din and a half Pioneer CD player was installed which looks very factory and period correct. The seats have minimal wear and are free of rips or tears. The dash has a very small crack right in the middle (above the radio) about the size of a nickel. Other than that, no other issues with the interior. The truck currently has close to 79k miles, and it runs and drives perfect! There are no issues mechanically with the truck. It passes Ohio E-Check with zero problems. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it cross country if needed. The truck is about 95% stock as it came from the factory. The only “mods” done to the truck are the following: • 4 new Bilstein shocks on the front and rear. (removed rear air pump and shocks) • Brand new Silicone vacuum line kit from Sportmachines (removed dried cracked lines) • ATR 3” polished cat back exaust. (removed old rusted muffler/tailpipe) • Walbro 255 lph fuel pump which went into a brand new gas tank that was clear coated before being installed. • Rear sway bar installed with brand new Energy Suspension end links • Brand new Bosch High Flow IC Pump • Sportmachines Refinished stock wheels with brand new Falken tires • Recent tune up with AC-42 plugs /cap/ and rotor I purchased the truck in August of 2012 with 76xxx miles on it. Since then, I have put a lot of time into cleaning this truck up to the condition it is in now. I have only put roughly 2000 miles on it since ive purchased it. Clean car fax and clean clear title on hand. This Typhoon is known as the “Lethal Weapon 3” Typhoon as it appeared in the movie back in 1993. I have a copy of the contract signed between General Motors and Warner Bros for the use of this Typhoon in the upcoming film. The truck also is said to have appeared in the movie “Falling Down” and was later used by Clint Eastwood for a short period before being sold at the LA Truck Center. I also have the build sheets for the truck, as well as other historical information regarding the truck If you would like to contact me outside of ebay to ask any questions or inquire about shipping, you can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org

You are looking at my 1993 Typhoon. It presently has 81,000 miles (Carfax documented – and I can send a copy if you would like), and is RUST FREE. It rides and drives as it should, interior is nice, and would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. Biggest downfall……it no longer has the original turbo 4.3 setup, as it has a carbureted 350 in it. Previous owner purchased from a dealer that did some top end engine work, but two days later, that engine threw a rod. Pick up a syty 4.3 and put it back to original (still has the original harness in it), or do an LS swap. I was NOT the one that did the swap. It is still AWD, as it maintains the original syty trans, transfer case, propshaft and front differential. The AWD system works as it should. Vehicle has no squeaks or rattles, which is uncommon for these trucks. Body: paint appears to be original, slight minor rust that you can see behind the fender cladding, but appears to be where the cladding rubbed through. A few scratches to be expected over 20+ years, but nothing major. Cab mounts are in good shape. Right rear cladding is not presently on the truck, but is included and ready to go. No rust behind it. Missing the decals on the tailgate, but they are readily available, set of both doors and tailgate are not much more than $50. Engine/Transmission: Engine is from an 89 Blazer, carbureted. Runs good. I do not know the mileage it had on it, but runs fine and does not smoke. Transmission is the original syty trans, and there is a toggle switch to activate the lockup torque converter. Not the ideal case, but it works. Radiator is about a week old. Interior: Original leather seats are in nice shape, soft leather and no major damage. No rips or tears. Door panels are nice. Carpet is ok. Could probably use a steam clean to make them real nice, but not perfect. Has original “typhoon” logo on glove box, console lid is in nice shape (needs button), and shift indicator became unclipped and is beneath the console. I did not remove the console to reattach it. In short, this truck will run and drive anywhere. It looks nice, runs and drives nice, just doesn’t have the correct engine. I do not NEED to sell this, but will probably be a few years until I get the time to put the correct engine in it, and don’t want to see it just sit there. Please do not hesitate to email any questions. Vehicle is located just south of Cleveland Ohio, about 20 minutes from Cleveland Hopkins Airport (CLE), and is available for inspection. Please, serious inquiries only. $500 non refundable deposit via paypal within 24 hours of auction. Balance to be paid prior to the vehicle leaving my house. I would be happy to coordinate with your shipper.
