Cord\'s last gasp was the stunning, ground-breaking 810/812 and in 1936 there was simply nothing else on the road that could measure up to its combination of leading-edge tech and jaw-dropping looks. This lovely 1936 Cord Westchester sedan stays faithful to the original design as well as Cord\'s front-wheel-drive architecture while adding all the modern conveniences to which we\'ve become accustomed. Imagine the impact of this car showing up in late 1935. Everyone else was still building tall, upright cars with sidemounts and chrome grilles and separate headlights, then this stunner shows up and changes the game forever. Today, it still looks modern and striking and whenever someone sees this car, they know it\'s something special. Aside from the monochromatic look and shaved rear door handles, it\'s quite stock which is probably a good thing because there\'s really no way to make this Cord look better. Finish quality is quite good and the subtle cream paint suits the outrageous shape perfectly. Old-school pinstripe art highlights the pontoon fenders and sleek bodywork but you don\'t notice it until you\'re up close, so it\'s not distracting. Cords didn\'t have much chrome to begin with, but on this car everything has been painted body color, including the bumpers and door handles, and it gives the whole car a very subtle, cohesive look. The interior of the Cord was no less dramatic and during this car\'s build they kept it almost entirely stock, which is no mean feat with the modern upgrades working behind the scenes. The red leather seats are certainly striking and the dash was inspired by aircraft, so sliding behind the wheel is always an event. Beautiful red door panels were created to match the seats and feature original hardware and garnish moldings and even the steering wheel was restored to match the car, not replaced with something modern. They were quite careful to preserve the style of the original dash, with a metal insert carrying vintage-looking gauges from Classic Instruments and a custom housing below for the A/C and AM/FM/cassette stereo controls. Thanks to the front-wheel-drive, there\'s plenty of leg room front and back and the trunk is a double-decker affair that also holds the full-sized spare tire. This Cord\'s powertrain pays homage to the original front-wheel-drive setup by using the engine and transmission from a 1979 Oldsmobile Toronado, which, of course, was also front-wheel-drive. The engineering is impressive and it all packs inside the original coffin-nosed engine bay without any major modifications. The point of this car wasn\'t speed, but the 307 cubic inch V8 works quite well to move it easily through traffic and the package is impressive. Ride and handling feel quite modern and with a TH325 3-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels, it\'s even easier to drive than the original pre-selector system. A custom exhaust system gives it a subtle rumble that\'s entirely appropriate, and the rear suspension from a 1978 Eldorado provides automatic load-leveling to keep it on an even keel. That same axle also gives it rear disc brakes to match the front discs, and color-matched wheels look right and carry 215/70/15 blackwall radials. Purists might not be interested (the few that exist), but the truth is that this car respects the original design while giving it a very usable performance envelope. Resto-mods don\'t get much more appropriate than this. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. For more information, please call (678) 279-1609 or toll free (877) 367-1835. Bumper Guards, Spare Tire, Wide Whitewall Tires, Fog Lamps, Radio, Clock, Heater . The Innovative Cord 810\'s are among the most sought-after treasures in the American Classic Car Pantheon. This groundbreaking front wheel drive automobile was the brainchild of legendary auto stylist Gordon Buehrig, lauded for his exemplary Duesenberg and Auburn speedster body designs. The Cord was conceived as a smaller more streamlined Duesenberg that had minimal trim cladding on the outside of the car body. The Cord 810\'s unmistakable \"Coffin Nose\" was one of the more bold styling decisions made by Buehrig. Combined with a 4-speed electrically shifted transmission and the low-slung front wheel drive chassis, the 810 was years ahead of it\'s time in both design and engineering. The Cord 810 Westchester sedan showcased here is a wonderfully maintained example of Cord\'s handsome 4-Door sedan, the premiere body style for the pioneering 810 series. A deep coat of Cord\'s single-moniker \'Black\' paint presents in very good condition, trimmed with lustrous bright work in excellent condition throughout. The interior upholstery has been refurbished with a durable buff-toned leatherette, contrasted with black accents. The expansive Art Deco period dashboard is the backdrop for an impressive array of instrumentation, all of which appear in excellent condition. The cosmetic restoration of this 810 was completed slightly over a decade ago, and has logged only gentle fair weather mileage since. The engine and drive-train have been thoroughly maintained over the years to ensure consistent running and driving quality. A glance under the Coffin Hood reveals a clean engine compartment with good detail. Engine and transmission perform respectably during our road tests. This is one of a handful of authentic Cord model 810\'s made available on the retail collector car market in recent years. Here is an opportunity to consider this Art Deco masterpiece away from the limitations of the typical auction venue. Youtube video available upon request. "whether or not old Cord owners want to admit the truth, if an original Cord and this recreation were placed side by side on a 1937 showroom floor, chances are excellent that 99% of the buyers would choose this recreation"Looks like a Pebble Beach show car but drives like a new Mercedes. This car was custom built for a car collector and longtime Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club member who has owned several Cords including a concourse winning 1937 Cabriolet. He built this car because he wanted a worry free driver. It took over 2 years and nearly a quarter million dollars to complete. During his years as a Cord enthusiast, the builder had acquired a large collection of authentic, original Cord parts; which he used on this car to ensure a near exact replica. This car features original Cord instruments, Electro-vac shifter, steering column and wheel, door handles, window cranks, chrome, hardware and other accessories. The chrome top irons were fabricated using original Cord top irons as a template. Its a fully functional, same as original top thats wrapped in a rich canvas. The headlights crank open and close same as the originals do.A lot of efforts went into concealing the cars modern amenities. There are micro switches in the window cranks to operate the power windows. An automatic shifter is hidden under the dash and a faux clutch pedal was even installed to further convince any aficionado. The interior is finished in doeskin leather upholstery. While the dash looks 1937 it too has some hidden surprises like ice cold air-conditioning and heat. There are also switches to electronically open the hood and trunk.Under the car is a custom chassis with independent coil-over front suspension, with power disc brakes and power steering. It is powered by a reliable and easy to maintain Chevrolet 350 engine and turbo 350 transmissions. The body is a Don Loux fiberglass body that had been straightened and fitted to the same finish as a steel body. The paint is high gloss with a mirror-like reflection. The cars trim, lights and accessories are original Cord items with the highest standard of chrome plating. This is truly a one of a kind car that cannot be compared to any other replica in existence. The dimensions and authenticity are far superior than the factory built Glenn Prey models and while Don Loux advertised a turnkey car being available for $70k, he was unable to produce a single one. Only about 12 bodies were produced and one turnkey project was started but never completed; the unfinished car had already exceeded the $70k budget. The bodies, molds and unfinished project have since been sold off.Titled as a 1937 Cord, there has been only about 75 miles put on this car since it was completed. Even the owner felt he had overshot his mark of building a driver when creating this functional piece of rolling art.
