Automati Vehicle Overview: Stock: 1936 VIN: RBT05M0202145661 Year: 1936 Exterior Color: SILVER/BURGANDY Make: Auburn Interior Color: GRAY Model: BOAT TAIL SPEEDSTER Mileage: 13639 Engine: 406 C.I. Transmission: Automatic Vehicle Description: The Auburn Boattail Speedster is considered one of the most striking cars to ever hit the open road! As Auburn dedicated itself to art-deco design styles, it employed some of the best designers of the era. With the model 851 and 852 Speedster credits going to designer Gordon Buehrig, very few were ever made before Auburn had to close its doors forever. Because of this, they became highly sought after for high line collectors and reproduced heavily by a great number of replica car manufactures for enthusiasts. The graceful lines of the Auburn Boat-tail Speedster were literally to be a "show stopper". First introduced in the auto shows during the summer of 1934, the Auburn was a instant success. The exquisite vehicle captured the media's attention and the imagination of history. In all, some 600 units of this exclusive automobile were built. At this time, in the history of the Auburn they were largely built by hand. These vehicles like this one are produced at the Prototype Research & Development factory with the same meticulous attention to detail as the Auburn. The frame is jig welded and all mechanical components are jig installed. This produces a full rolling chassis, which then is mated with hand laminated, steel reinforced fiberglass body, complete with hand formed 14 gauge aluminum hood panels. The body has 12 coats of rubbed base clear to give a deep enduring finish. Specially selected rich leather touch material and the best of the Hartz convertible topping set off the vehicle interior while chromium plated bronze castings and stainless steel detail pieces complete the exterior. From its inception, this vehicle has served an exclusive clientele. In the thirties it was the darling of the Hollywood set. to such actors as Clark Gable, Errol Flynn and Al Johnson, traditionally , influential members of society such as doctors , business tycoons, and royalty owned Auburns. Since 1985 Prototype & Research Development LTD has been building reproduction and preserves the tradition even today. This 1936 Auburn Boattail Speedster is powered by a GM 406 c.i. V8 engine with aluminum heads producing 399 horse power and 473 ft lb torque mated three speed automatic transmission. Power front disc brakes, power steering, tilt wheel, GM front end and rear end, Stainless steel dual exhaust, Classic wire wheels, Big Wide whitewall tires, Leather interior, Banjo style steering wheel and more! This is a very fast car that drives out fantastic and demands attention where ever it goes. This is a nice driver that was built back in the 1980's and showing 13,xxx miles. 1936 Cord Model 810 Convertible Phaeton First and Foremost.... It pays to understand fully what goes into a nut-and-bolt restoration of one of these cars. There are many examples of Cords that upon first glance appear lovely or even near show quality. For many of these cars, their presentation depends substantially on creative photography and the talents of the last body and paint person to have exercised their craft on it. Highly modified cars are nearly impossible to bring back to factory standards practically or economically. The quality and condition of this 1936 Cord Phaeton speaks for itself..... Here are the details of this 810 Phaeton; This is a completely rust-free California car. This 810 Phaeton was delivered from the factory as a naturally aspirated version of the incredible Gordon Buehrig design masterpiece. In 1937, Cord introduced a supercharged version of the car which included exposed polished stainless steel flexible exhaust pipes coming from either side of the hood. This was an instant success with the automobile public and an added hallmark to the Buehrig classic . Almost immediately, many of the 1936 and naturally aspirated 1937 models were returned to the dealer or even eventually back to the "factory" to have the exhaust pipe feature added. This phaeton has had that done and includes the ultra-rare cast iron exhaust manifolds, super charged screens and stainless flex pipes necessary to have them function properly. A very common misunderstanding of people restoring a Cord automobile is that the most difficult and expensive part of the restoration is its mechanics. Contrary to this, the most expensive part of an 810 restoration is the body and chassis. The intricately curved panels and Art Deco forms are near impossible to restore well by craftsmen trained after say, 1960. Hammer and dolly metal work is far different than that of gluing a quarter panel on to a late model Buick with a caulking gun of panel adhesive. When you are lucky enough to locate someone to do the work, you generally pay an incredible premium for their services. I have attached a few pictures of this Phaeton at various steps of it's restoration to date. The most telling pictures are of course the ones showing the car or specific panels in bare steel. All of the eloquent descriptions in the world cannot substitute for a picture at this level. No fillers, no fancy photography, no nothing; just plain steel. The hard work has been done. This Phaeton is finished in high quality satin black PPG epoxy primer. The carefully metal finished areas can be seen in the pictures. The pictures show where there were door dings, small dents or steel repairs in many cases no larger than a American quarter coin. The metal has been fastidiously cleaned and prepared for the next level of show quality paint preparation. The cleaning process was multi-step and quite thorough. After stripping nearly the entire body to bare steel, all body components were further cleaned with either a walnut shell, glass bead, soda or aluminum oxide blast. The parts were then treated in a phosphoric acid-rich bath to convert any imperceptible iron oxidation into iron phosphate, an inert non-reactive film which in itself creates an excellent auto primer base. This level of preparation is critical in protecting the car from any unseen oxidation that would come back after the final paint process and reassembly or worse, on the show field. There are no covered over holes, perforations or incorrect non-factory designed details on the body whatsoever. There are no poorly done or modern short-cutted reproduction body panels anywhere on this automobile. All repairs to the factory sheetmetal where necessary were expertly done in fully welded steel with the ultimate goal to make each repair as undetectable and correct as possible. This was accomplished in many cases by not only using the same material as the factory but also by utilizing the same methods of manufacture and detail as the Auburn assembly plant in Connersville did in 1937. The original factory floor areas have been cleaned, acid etch primed and painted in the factory type red-oxide color matched modern formulation PPG epoxy primer. After this was completed, the appropriate areas were then undercoated utilizing a modern version polyurethane based material to replicate the the asphaltic based undercoating used at the factory. This was done to insure permanent adhesion as well as stop moisture from being trapped over time as occurred when the original tar-type delaminated from the metal. Not only is the texture correct, it's application to the factory specified areas also substantially enhances the quiet ride design of the car. The most difficult part of any restoration is adhering to factory standards. Many 75 year old cars have been restored multiple times over the years. Each time a little something is lost due to limitations in the restorer’s knowledge, abilities and or budget. Proper restoration techniques were utilized in every phase of the work performed on this car. The front fenders on this phaeton have been metal finished with all proper factory welded and finished seams. Due to their complex design and construction, many Cord front and rear fenders are areas which have been the site of some fairly horrific bodywork over those same 75 years. You can see the underside of one of the front fenders in the photo array after initial cleaning. That is factory red lead primer you see that the undercoating is applied over. The valance below the trunk lid is another area on both open and closed cars that can be a disaster due to rust, collision damage or poor workmanship over the years. These areas are excellent on this phaeton. Both doors as well as the convertible top cover were metal finished to virtual perfection. Door bottoms, even on California cars, routinely had rust problems early on since the design from the factory did not incorporate a proper drain system for condensation or moisture. The doors on this phaeton were perfect. All preparation, fabrication and repairs, if any, were professionally done by an artisan with over 25+ years experience on concours level classics and exotics including multiple Cord automobiles such as this. Door, hood, fence and trunk gaps are excellent with the doors closing effortlessly confirming once again the cars damage-free history. This phaeton has its original VIN tag. It is also a known car in the Cord registry and has complete title work included. Factory Serial Number 2459H I have spent a good deal of time describing the fact that it is so straight simply because that is hardly ever the case with these cars. I have included a few pictures of these stages of restoration and repair to give the buyer a better understanding of the condition of this car and the simplicity of their restoration going forward. While it would be great to have this car finished at a high end restoration shop, it is far enough along at this point to have the Buyer Enthusiast or their own local quality body shop complete it. This Phaeton has most if not all of the hard work done and includes most if not all of the hard parts. Parts that are replaced as a matter of wear or maintenance should be expected to be purchased. I am including many parts that would normally be purchased as a part of a restoration. This will be done to further insure the ease of restoration of this incredible car. Difficult parts such as quarter window assemblies and covers, headlight cables, convertible top mechanisms, suspension, rebuilt master cylinder, wheel cylinders and brake shoes. Also included are all steering components, instruments, radio and control head, windshield frame, engine and transmission main components are included. The complete front and rear seat assemblies are included including the old factory seat covers which may be used a template during reupholstery. The seating surfaces have been covered with a simple set of covers to protect them for this very reason. Engine and transmission assemblies are complete except for items that would naturally be replaced as a part of a complete rebuild. A new set of .030 pistons are included. ************************************************************ Parts and Extras included in this sale: - Complete factory Cord engine and transmission including starter and generator and complete water pump assembly- NOS Autolite Ignition coil, cap, points- Complete set of NOS Champion H-10 black base spark plugs- Complete set of new +.030 pistons- Many new impossible to find NOS or new suspension and steering bearings, races and sleeves- Cord factory supercharged side screens, cast iron exhaust manifolds and exterior stainless steel flexible pipes- Four undamaged Cord factory road wheels- Rebuilt stainless steel sleeved master cylinder and wheel cylinders and a complete set of relined brake shoes- Cord factory locking and non-locking exterior door handles, locking and non-locking trunk latches and receivers - Cord Factory radio and control head- Complete set of Cord factory gauges- Cord factory Stromberg EE-15 carburetor and air cleaner- Much more There are many, many talented and trustworthy folks who belong to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club (ACD Club) who deal in parts for these fine automobiles as well as offer professional rebuilding services for many of the car's mechanical components including complete or partial engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, etc. At the appropriate time, I would be pleased to make those introductions. I recommend that the very first thing you do if you are the successful bidder is join this great organization as well as the ACD Museum. As an added bonus, I will include a one-year paid membership to the club if you are not already a member. Additionally, I will include a new copy in the publisher's wrapper of the original definitive book on this marque titled Cord 810/812 The Timeless Classic written by noted automotive historian and author Josh B. Malks. You cannot successfully restore a Cord of any kind without this piece of incredible research. The book is also available new on Amazon.com from Hickman Books for $250.00. I am a private collector without affiliation whatsoever with any commercial enterprise dealing in the restoration or sales of classic cars. I have been a automobile enthusiast my entire life and have collected many automobiles including several Cords and other ACD examples. This Phaeton was built with the intention of having a number one car upon completion. I have decided to sell this project prior to finish to allow me the time and opportunity to finish several other restoration projects I have ongoing. I can assure you, you will not find or commission a Cord 810 Phaeton quality restoration to this stage of completion for even a multiple of the reserve set on this auction. If you are looking for an exceptional specimen of this American classic, this is that car. Good luck and thank you for your interest. Please ask all of your questions prior to bidding. While this is an incredible car that will be worth every moment spent on it, it is nevertheless a seventy-five year old car being sold as-is, where-is without any express or implied warranty whatsoever. The car will be transferred to the new buyer with a clear title and Bill of Sale without any liens and or encumbrances whatsoever. This 1936 Cord Phaeton is for sale locally and we reserve the right to sell it prior to auction end. Under the right circumstances and for the right vehicle, trades might be considered. Thank you for your interest.

View our eBay StoreSign up for our Email Newsletter 1937 Cord Phaeton offered with a reserve This Very nice example is an ACD Certified car, and won Best Cord at the ACD labor Day meet some time back. While an older restoration the car still presents very well, a testament to the quality of the restoration. It runs and drives wonderfully and is ready to go touring, and would still be most welcome at the most demanding show. Finished in a luscious Maroon with matching leather interior and tan top, the car is correct in every manner and worthy of acquisition by the most descriminating collector. Phaetons are the most drivable and usable when it comes to Open Cords, you can take along a few passengers in style and get there in a hurry! No collection is complete without an 810/812 Cord. Now is the time to buy one as they are rising in value very rapidly. The 812 Cord is one of the most beautiful production cars of all time, and they are quite simply the best driving pre War car there is. If you are looking for a Full Classic you can actually drive in modern traffic, the Cord is hard to beat! We have many more photographs of this car, please click on any image to be taken to our full-size image list! The 810-812 Cord is a consensus for anyones list of the most beautiful production cars of all time! This groundbreaking design set the world on fire when it was introduced at the 1935 NY Auto Salon. People actually stood on top of other cars to get a glimpse of the Cord, which was akin to a spaceship having landed in the middle of the show floor. Sales requests were overwhelming for the relatively small Auburn Auto company and the cars were rushed to production. Many little irrating things were solved in the '37 Production year so '37 is generally considered the year to buy if you have a choice. The supercharged models with their outside exhaust pipes are the rarest and most desirable models. These cars are arguably the fastest and most drivable PreWar car there is. They handle and ride like no other Pre War car. They look like no other PreWar car. They are quite simply like no other PreWar car and quite frankly better than many cars produced long after the War ended. This lovely 1936 Cord Westchester sedan stays faithful to the original design as well as Cord's front-wheel-drive architecture while adding all the modern conveniences to which we've become accustomed. Imagine the impact of this car showing up in late 1935. Everyone else was still building tall, upright cars with sidemounts and chrome grilles and separate headlights, then this stunner shows up and changes the game forever. Today, it still looks modern and striking and whenever someone sees this car, they know it's something special. Aside from the monochromatic look and shaved rear door handles, it's quite stock which is probably a good thing because there's really no way to make this Cord look better. Finish quality is quite good and the subtle cream paint suits the outrageous shape perfectly. Old-school pinstripe art highlights the pontoon fenders and sleek bodywork but you don't notice it until you're up close, so it's not distracting. Cords didn't have much chrome to begin with, but on this car everything has been painted body color, including the bumpers and door handles, and it gives the whole car a very subtle, cohesive look. The interior of the Cord was no less dramatic and during this car's build they kept it almost entirely stock, which is no mean feat with the modern upgrades working behind the scenes. The red leather seats are certainly striking and the dash was inspired by aircraft, so sliding behind the wheel is always an event. Beautiful red door panels were created to match the seats and feature original hardware and garnish moldings and even the steering wheel was restored to match the car, not replaced with something modern. They were quite careful to preserve the style of the original dash, with a metal insert carrying vintage-looking gauges from Classic Instruments and a custom housing below for the A/C and AM/FM/cassette stereo controls. Thanks to the front-wheel-drive, there's plenty of leg room front and back and the trunk is a double-decker affair that also holds the full-sized spare tire. This Cord's powertrain pays homage to the original front-wheel-drive setup by using the engine and transmission from a 1979 Oldsmobile Toronado, which, of course, was also front-wheel-drive. The engineering is impressive and it all packs inside the original coffin-nosed engine bay without any major modifications. The point of this car wasn't speed, but the 307 cubic inch V8 works quite well to move it easily through traffic and the package is impressive. Ride and handling feel quite modern and with a TH325 3-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels, it's even easier to drive than the original pre-selector system. A custom exhaust system gives it a subtle rumble that's entirely appropriate, and the rear suspension from a 1978 Eldorado provides automatic load-leveling to keep it on an even keel. That same axle also gives it rear disc brakes to match the front discs, and color-matched wheels look right and carry 215/70/15 blackwall radials. Purists might not be interested (the few that exist), but the truth is that this car respects the original design while giving it a very usable performance envelope. Resto-mods don't get much more appropriate than this. The "SAMCO" model Cords rolled out of the Tulsa OK factory in two different models, The Warrior and The Royale. The Warrior, with a 108 inch wheel base, and the extended version Royale with a 113 inch wheel base. Both models came equipped with either a Ford 302 engine, or the Chrysler 440 Magnum engine. Some 400 cars were built and many of the 400 still exist today! You are looking at a clean example of an original Warrior 108inch wheelbase model. This roadster sports the Ford 302 V8 engine with automatic transmission. The power windows work well, and the drive is very simple and predictable to maneuver. The top is in excellent condition and the color combination is eye catching and inviting. The wide white-wall tires set the vehicle off! Recently serviced and ready for enjoyment! Please call Bob Reilly at 540-287-4378 with questions or to see more pictures/video that may not be present on Rosner Motorsports . com . ColorWhiteInterior ColorWhiteTitleClearFrom 1968 to 1970, the S.A.M.C.O. manufacturer created these wonderful replica Cords to reproduce the 810/812 models from the late 1930's. Bumper Guards, Spare Tire, Wide Whitewall Tires, Fog Lamps, Radio, Clock, Heater . The Innovative Cord 810\'s are among the most sought-after treasures in the American Classic Car Pantheon. This groundbreaking front wheel drive automobile was the brainchild of legendary auto stylist Gordon Buehrig, lauded for his exemplary Duesenberg and Auburn speedster body designs. The Cord was conceived as a smaller more streamlined Duesenberg that had minimal trim cladding on the outside of the car body. The Cord 810\'s unmistakable \"Coffin Nose\" was one of the more bold styling decisions made by Buehrig. Combined with a 4-speed electrically shifted transmission and the low-slung front wheel drive chassis, the 810 was years ahead of it\'s time in both design and engineering. The Cord 810 Westchester sedan showcased here is a wonderfully maintained example of Cord\'s handsome 4-Door sedan, the premiere body style for the pioneering 810 series. A deep coat of Cord\'s single-moniker \'Black\' paint presents in very good condition, trimmed with lustrous bright work in excellent condition throughout. The interior upholstery has been refurbished with a durable buff-toned leatherette, contrasted with black accents. The expansive Art Deco period dashboard is the backdrop for an impressive array of instrumentation, all of which appear in excellent condition. The cosmetic restoration of this 810 was completed slightly over a decade ago, and has logged only gentle fair weather mileage since. The engine and drive-train have been thoroughly maintained over the years to ensure consistent running and driving quality. A glance under the Coffin Hood reveals a clean engine compartment with good detail. Engine and transmission perform respectably during our road tests. This is one of a handful of authentic Cord model 810\'s made available on the retail collector car market in recent years. Here is an opportunity to consider this Art Deco masterpiece away from the limitations of the typical auction venue. Youtube video available upon request.
