I'm selling my Ford Taurus station wagon. It has been a trusted companion for the last three years, but it is having some problems and I can't afford to repair it, so I have to say goodbye and let it go. If you are a mechanic or know a good one, it might be pretty easy to get it up and running again. Carfax can be provided if desired. The good:It is in pretty good shape overall, and I did a good job of keeping up with regular maintenance, oil changes, tire rotations, etc. I bought the car from a dealership with 140,000 miles on it and drove it another 30,000 over 3 years. I have put a good deal of work into the car and I think if it is repaired properly it may run for years into the future. Work put into car: 139,000 - Coolant flush, transmission filter, and gasket145,000 - New battery, alternator + valve cover gaskets147,000 - Transmission fluid flush150,000 - Head gaskets, valve cover, intake + exhaust manifold gaskets, thermostat, water pump, coolant reservoir, DPFE sensor, bank 2 sensor, O2 sensor, wiring harness, new front and rear cylinder heads (basically upper half of the engine overhauled due to blown head gasket).154,000 - Fuel filter replaced157,000 - Heater core flushed162,000 - Spark plugs and wires It has the third-row seat and can seat up to 8 people with seatbelts. It is a flex-fuel 3.0L V6 (Vulcan) engine, meaning it will run on E85 or gas. It has cruise control, power windows, mirrors, and power driver's seat. AC and heat are both working good. Before the misfire issue, I was consistently getting about 19 MPG city and 22 MPG highway. Stock stereo works and sounds plenty fine for me. The bad:The car is misfiring on cylinder 2. It began (very occasionally) at around 167,000 miles, and was not really presenting enough of a problem to even diagnose. A few weeks ago, it started staying in misfire. I have no idea what is going on, but I don't have the means to get a proper diagnosis. The reverse lights will not come on, even though I have replaced the bulbs. The heater / AC fan will only blow on high, so the in-between settings are not an option. In heavy rains some water can leak onto the floor of the passenger seat, it is a known issue and easy fix. The driver's side door lock tends to get frozen in the winter and will not work, passenger one is starting to have the same issue. The trunk lock does not engage with the power locks. The key fob does not work for lock / unlock. It leaks transmission fluid, we're pretty sure it's the pan gasket. The ugly:The back bumper is scratched on the right side from being hit in a parking lot. It's very minor. The windshield has some cracks in it, they have not spread since I bought the car. There is a tear in the ceiling cloth and some minor stains, etc. Conclusion:This is a "mechanic's special" as they say, could fix up or use for parts. I would ask that you not test drive it very far, unless you are fairly certain you'd like to buy it, as I don't want to put more stress on the engine for the eventual buyer. I'm ok with a (very limited) amount of mechanical tinkering or diagnostics done at my location, as long as you share any conclusions you come to with me.
