Chevy has been making pickup trucks since the \'30s and when you make a gazillion of them, well that\'s no small amount of practice. Made to withstand all the punishment that a commercial vehicle needs to tolerate, this 1988 C10 appears to have led a more civilian existence. This Silverado may not be a trailer queen show piece but is an honest example of how well these models age with proper care and maintenance. All of us should mature so well. Black will always be the toughest finish to maintain but year in and out it is always one of the top color choices when you want to impress. Combined with the regular cab and stepside bed, the truck has a sporty demeanor and a great look. The bottom half offers gold and subtle pinstriping that elevates it beyond mere work truck. There was never a great deal of chrome fitted to these workhorses but what is there remains in good condition.The SS style hood and a fiberglass bed cover complete the modest customization without affecting function. Few trucks wear the stepside bed better than the C10, and I would happily trade the reduced capacity for the awesome looks every time. Slip inside and have a seat. The bench has a replacement vinyl seat cover for easy servicing. Because this is a Silverado it is optioned with several creature comforts, including air conditioning which still blows ice cold. AM/FM stereo, cruise control and a tilt wheel are all at your fingertips, further blurring the line between blue and white collar transportation. And we haven\'t forgotten that this is a truck with a half- ton load capacity and so power steering and power brakes make it all manageable. Two very welcome options, especially if you hook up something to that trailer hitch out back. Open the hood and inspect the nicely detailed engine bay. This Silverado is equipped with the 305 cubic inch V8 making 130 horsepowerand has been fitted to everything from Camaros to, well, pickup trucks. There are plenty of aftermarket performance enhancements for those of you that like to modify your ride\'s performance, thanks to the longevity and the multi -model placement of this motor. Still, more than enough power available if you choose to leave the motor bone stock. The engine is running to specs, starting up instantly and running down the road as smooth as back in 1988. The 4-speed automatic transmission is also performing without complaint and there isn\'t a better transmission available to mate to the 305-nobody really wants a manual transmission in their truck, do they? Have a look at the clean undercarriage, where you\'ll find no secrets, thanks to a lifetime in a warm climate.
