Hailing from warm, dry New Mexico, this awesome 1970 Dodge Charger R/T gets a lot of things right: matching numbers 440, 4-speed manual transmission, A33 Track Pak, original sheetmetal, Chrysler Corporation Broadcast Sheet, and a fresh rotisserie restoration. Like you, we didn't think cars like this existed anymore outside of the rarefied atmosphere of high-end collections, yet here it is, ready to rock.According to the fender tag, this one was restored exactly the way the factory built it, although it's unlikely that anything coming out of Chrysler factories in 1970 looked this pretty. But just to double-check our work, here's a breakdown of the relevant information:XS29: Dodge ChargerSpecial, R/T2 Door Sports HardtopU0G: 440 cubic inch 375 horsepower 1x4-barrel carburetor, 8 cylinder1970St. Louis, MO, USA148125: Sequence numberE86: 440 cubic inch 4-barrel V8 (High Performance) 375 horsepowerD21: 4-speed manual transmissionEB7: Dark Blue Metallic (Dodge)C6B5: Trim - Charger, vinyl bucket seats, blueEB5: Bright Blue Metallic (Dodge) interior door framesA22: Build date: October 22093704: Order numberV1W: Full vinyl top, whiteA33: Track Pak w/3.54 ratioC55: Bucket seatsJ25: 3-speed wipersM21: Roof drip rail moldingsM31: Belt moldingsR11: Radio, solid-state AM (2 watts)V8W: Transverse stripes, white26: 26-inch radiatorEND: End of sales codesIt also comes with its original Broadcast Sheet, which is incredibly well-preserved and legible, and it confirms everything on the tag. During the restoration, the important numbers were documented and photographed to provide additional verification that this car is the real deal. The engine, transmission, and body all have matching numbers, making this a blue-chip investment that you can also drive and enjoy. The gentleman who found and restored this car has a particular penchant for finding rare Mopars like this and knows how to make them right, given his vast experience with them. As you can see in the photos, the base stock was pretty darned good, including the floors and quarters, making this as solid a car as you're going to find. Given the pedigree, there was never any doubt that it would go back together the way the factory intended, so the body was stripped bare and rebuilt from there, and you can see that most of the work was done in bare metal, so the bodywork is extremely straight. Modern two-stage urethane does a heck of a job with the Dark Blue finish, making it glow in just the right light—it's no wonder that this color remains a favorite among Chrysler fans. A white tape stripe wraps around the rear of the car and there's a matching white vinyl roof that was installed as soon as the paint was dry, so it's all quite fresh. You'll note that the chrome on the bumpers sparkles, the grille is in excellent condition, and many of the original badges were able to be reused thanks to their outstanding condition. Inside, it's almost entirely new, thanks to high-quality reproduction pieces from Legendary. The bright blue upholstery looks great inside the blue bodywork and detailing is extremely nice. Note the beautifully rendered door panels, the high-back buckets with fresh foam inside, and new carpets that duplicate the original weave and include a heel pad for the driver. There's no center console, suggesting that this car was built for just one thing, and it gives the 4-speed pistol-grip shifter an especially intimidating look. The woodgrained dashboard looks bright the gauges inside were rebuilt, so the markings are bright and the lenses are clear. The original Music Master AM radio remains in the dash and even the seat belts were re-webbed. Open the trunk and you'll find a few important details such as the textured coating on the inside of the quarter panels that is proof that the sheetmetal is original. There's also a reproduction mat, a proper jack assembly, and a brand new full-sized spare tire. They didn't cut any corners on this restoration!OK, the good stuff is all under the hood. That is the original, numbers-matching 440 cubic inch V8, which was rated at a somewhat conservative 375 horsepower by the factory. But the real treat is the gigantic wallop of torque that's available at almost any speed. Correctly detailed with Hemi Orange engine enamel, a wrinkle-finish air cleaner with reproduction decal, and all the little pieces that make it look right, it's a show-worthy engine bay that just looks right. Correct hoses, clamps, clips, wiring, and even a reproduction red cap battery give it a highly finished look and you can tell that the guys who did the restoration knew what they were doing. Underneath, it's the same story, with nicely detailed suspension and brake systems, the original heavy duty 18-spline 4-speed gearbox and a bulletproof Dana 60 with 3.54 gears on a Sure Grip limited slip, both of which were part of the A33 Track Pak option group. The dual exhaust system has just the right rumble to it and terminates in correct squared-off tips under the rear bumper. Of course, all the lines and hoses are new, the gas tank has been replaced, and it runs and drives like a new car. The only major deviation from stock are the radial tires (the car would have come with bias-plys originally), but the BFGs on the restored Rallye wheels look great and offer far superior handling. As I said, the car is documented with its original Chrysler Corporation Broadcast Sheet and the New Mexico title to verify its origins. This is a no-stories car.For the guys who value an impeccable pedigree, this car delivers in a very big way. Add in the fact that the '70 Charger is one of the most highly-sought muscle cars of all time and a high-quality restoration, this Charger becomes impossible to resist. Very nice condition inside and out. Passed Smog last year. Both the transmission and engine are in great shape. The interior has some wear but the body is beautiful. I am the original owner and mostly drove it on the highway to and from work. The only issues that I am aware of is that it needs tires soon and the AC is not blowing cold. I believe it just needs freon but I am not sure. I am reducing the price of the suggested retail price from Kelly Blue Book by $1,000. If you are looking for dependability with nice features, and a new looking car for the right price you have found it.
