This is the classic American work, haul, travel, tow, take-all-your-friends somewhere truck! It is the iconic family do-everything truck that was built like a tank. This is the kind of vehicle that reminds us how things used to be build - you just don't see this kind of strength, capability and simplicity anymore.
Best yet, this one is in exceptionally good condition. It has been very well maintained and is in really good shape! This isn't even close to the typical junked trucks you see out there. Even better than the clean condition is the nearly new drivetrain! Mechanically, this truck is as fresh as a 4 year old truck!! It has a newer 'crate' 454 engine with about 60k miles on it (plus some fun upgrades!!). It has an upgraded 4 speed automatic that also has about 60k miles on it. Yes, originally, these trucks came with a 3 speed automatic. With this upgraded transmission, you get more useful power and the extra gear really improves gas mileage. The A/C is newly updated and freshly recharged (that's a $1,000 worth of cold cold air!!). And this rig has rear A/C!
If you are looking for a highly capable truck for not a lot of money, this is your truck!! Because of the condition, I'm asking what I think is fare for the amount of care I've put into it in terms of maintenance and keeping her clean. But I'm open to reasonable offers. Yes there are Suburbans out there for less, but for a very good reason. Therefore $3,950 OBO.
How does she drive?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Like a freighttrain! Tons of power just pours out of this perfectly running 454. She makes a great, slightly menacing, but not obnoxious sound and cruises nicely and quietly on the freeway with that extra gear. The engine is upgraded with a variety of performance parts from headers to cams, better ignition, higher performance exhaust. The list goes on. This is one functional but also fun truck!! Give the engine a rev and it sounds like a muscle car.
How are the mechanicals?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Engine is strong. Transmission shifts perfectly without any slip. Brakes are strong and bring her to a stop without any issues or drama. Recent work includes:
:: New battery (she also has a dual battery setup)
:: New alternator (replaced with new top-shelf parts)
:: New starter motor (replaced with new top-shelf parts)
:: No smoke on start up, idle or as the engine revs or comes down off revs
:: As already mentioned, the A/C system is newly refreshed / recharged
How does she look?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The interior is exceptionally clean for trucks like these. The interior is a light grey fabric.
:: There are NO rips or tears on the seats, the carpet or headliner.
:: There are no stains either.
Outside, she looks great for her age.
:: No big dents or scrapes.
:: To my knowledge she is accident free.
:: All body panels are straight and in good shape.
How does she function?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything works as it should on this truck.
:: She has 3 rows of seating. The rear seat is removable. The 2nd row of seats fold flat. That makes for a huge storage area inside if you need it.
:: The huge roof rack carries anything.
:: It has a class 3 trailer hitch installed.
:: It has extra wiring for internal auxiliary power ports.
:: There is lots of tire tread left on the beefy tires.
:: Cruise control works
:: A/C blows frosty cold - it was just recharged (about $1,000 spent)
:: It has the optional rear A/C as well.
:: Power windows
:: Power door locks
What I think you should know about:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
:: Chevy didn't understand how to paint back then... like most Chevy's of this era, the paint is flaking off in some areas. There are no issues (rust) but it doesn't look great. It is happening in the silver stripe that runs the length of the truck. You can see it in the pictures. I'd probably sand it down and have a paint shop respray the silver stripe and then this truck would really look sharp.
:: Mileage: The truck has just a 5 digit odometer. Therefore, total chassis mileage is somewhat unknown. Based on talking with the prior owners and by looking at the history of receipts it is my belief the vehicle has about 215,000 on the chassis. However, as already mentioned, all most all the mechanicals are new within the last 70,000 miles.
:: The knob to the center storage compartment broke off. It still latches and is easily openable. Not a big deal at all, but the only thing I can think of on the truck that is not completely right.
:: I want to reiterate - this truck is a 2-wheel-drive (2x4, 2WD, RWD). She looks like a 4x4 because of the slightly larger tires and being a bit raised up so just want to make sure you know this. I've driven the truck in the snow (up to skiing and up Mt. Rainier) and never had issues and never wished it was a 4x4. I suspect this is in part because the tires are especially capable.
Why I'm selling:
:: I hate to let this amazing truck go, but I'm selling my house (5 car garage) and the extra vehicles have to go.
Get in touch with your questions! Then get ready to realize this is probably the best example of a 2500 Suburban out there! If you are looking for a truck like this - this one shouldn't disappoint!! Thanks for checking out my rig - hope to hear from you!
