He had driven a classmate's Cobra after college and had become entranced by the prospect of owning one himself. He inquired after a few used cars, until he came upon a new 289 Cobra in Utah. Walter Larson Ford in Murray, Utah was anxious to move their Cobra before winter set in, so a deal was struck and on December 23, 1964 Hector boarded a plane and set off for Utah to collect his car. The original sticker price was $6465, and the final sale price was only $5299. Quite the deal indeed. Unfortunately they had not beaten the onset of winter in Utah, and snow had started to fall. So Hector did what any young American would do with a new Cobra in the snow, he fitted a set of rear winter tires and began the 800 mile drive over the mountains to his parents' house in Portland Oregon. He was turned back at the Cascade Mountains because he had inadvertently planned his trip during what would become known as the "The Christmas Flood of 1964", the worst storm the Northwest had seen in recorded history. Thankfully Hector and the Cobra survived the journey, and they made it to Portland on Christmas Day. Hector would bring the Cobra home to Anaheim, California, and would go on to use the car as his daily driver for the next two years. During that time he would compete in a few autocross events in LA, San Diego, and Portland. In 1973 the car would be repainted in its original red. That same year Hector would move to Oregon, and the Cobra would be set aside, and driven infrequently, except for occasional local vintage sports car rallies. CSX 2337 has never been in an accident, and the aluminum body remains completely original. The engine, transmission, and rear end are original to the car. Even the original spare tire, which has never been used, is included with the car. These Superformance Daytona Coupes are now licensed and resold by Carroll Shelby and Shelby Inc as Shelby Cobra Daytona CSX9 series Mk II. This licensing agreement allows the previous 150 Superformance Daytona Coupe's or MK 1's to be registered as Cobras in the Cobra registry. Titled / Licensed: Registered in the state of California under the much sought after and DMV time consuming SB100 as a 1965 SPC-065 Daytona Coupe. Which equates to no emission testing for life of the car. For over seas buyers do to its Title designate year of manufacturer of 1965 it avoids costly import fees do to its Classic car status. This car was hand made by Superformance in 2004. Power train: Roush 427 engine # 069 (550 horses/ 535 ft/lbs torque), 770 Holley carburetors. Dart 4-bolt main block, forged crank, forged rods, Roush aluminum heads with stainless steel valves, Holley 770 carburetor, polished engine package. Very street-able and runs extremely strong on 91 octane pump gas. Tremec TKO 600 five-speed transmission connected to a BTR/Dana HydraTrac LSD limited-slip differential with a fully IRS. Braking system & Steering: Four wheel vented-disc brakes with power-assisted PBR calipers; power-assisted rack & pinion steering. Engine cooling: Aluminum radiator water and oil cooling with auto or manual over ride triple radiator and engine compartment exit fans. Exterior: Show quality PPG paint then clear coated then front end was 3M filmed for stone guard protection, 18" cast alloy pin-drive knockoff wheels with safety wired spinners. Ceramic-coated headers & side pipes. Color is Royal Blue with Wimbledon White twin stripes and a rear half cove with the car number on the rear. Chassis: Round-tube mild steel space frame with fully independent suspension & coil-over Bilstein shocks. Cockpit: Moto-Lita leather wrapped steering wheel, period correct Stewart Warner gauges, short-throw shifter, German leather bucket seat with inflatable lumbar supports, Alcantara headliner, doors and dash upholstery, TFE Air Conditioning system, glove box autographed by Peter Brock. They are ALL hand made in South Africa by Hi Tec also known as Superformance in the USA. They are the same size inside and out. They are the same car. My series are commonly known as MK I and the newer versions are known as MK II. The differences between MK I and MK II are: Added power Windows. Mk I have roll up. Added outside Door handles. I purchased this body from the original owner. He used to build several of these exact same kits. He believed this to be a Mk II style made in the 80's. I was told it can be paired with any Mustang, Corvette, Camaro, etc. frame with little modification. This original has never been assembled! It's a complete fiberglass body. The doors, hood, and trunk lid are in good shape. The trunk lid and one door piece have minor surface cracks, but nothing that goes all the way through. There is no manufacture stamp that I can find. It's been lightly cleaned in preparation for selling, however the body still has some minor dirt spots. It currently has its own protected space in the garage for storage. It weighs approximately 400 lbs and is 13' long x 6' wide which is to Cobra specifications. The wheelbase is 94 inches. No frame, additional parts or the photographed dollies are included in this sale. Please contact me with any question! I have additional pictures that can be provided via an eBay message.
