MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer yet another very special racecar for sale to the general public; the 1990 Shelby Can-Am Racecar you see pictured %26#8226; and no proper Shelby collection would be complete without one! Can-Am stands for The CANadian-AMerican Challenge Cup, which was an SCCA/CASC sports car racing series. Except for the recently developed Shelby Series 1, the Shelby Can-Am racecar is the only car constructed from a blank sheet of paper by Carroll Shelby and his design team. This car is #12 of only 74 cars ever built, complete with the original Shelby Log Book, miscellaneous documents and spares. This is a very special Shelby Can-Am as it is still currently in its original format. The car was purchased on June 14th, 1990 by Richard %26#8220;R.E%26#8221; Crowell, who also raced the car. It was later purchased by Bob Johnson, a renowned Shelby Can-Am collector, who owned the car until 2013. The engine was rebuilt by MRE Power Products of Greenville, Florida in March of 2013 at a cost of $4,252, which we do have the receipts in hand for!The chassis was designed by Alan Burke and David Bruns, original body work was from the legendary Peter Brock, the transmission came from the Can-Am and Indy Car gearbox shop of Pete and Chris Weismann. John Fernandez, currently with the Chrysler Dodge Racing Program, oversaw the design and testing program from 1989 until 1993. The finish is brilliant red and not without a few cosmetic racing flaws but is still suitable as a collector car or as a Shelby museum piece. This is a true and authentic piece of racing history! The book, %26#8220;Fast Days,%26#8221; by Joel Jackson, explains in detail the story about the lessor known racing accomplishments of the Shelby Team in conjunction with Lee Iacocca and Chrysler Corporation. Chassis #12 is one of the 74 production chassis built from 1989 to 1993. Records indicate the car was originally purchased from Shelby Technologies/SCCA Enterprises in June of 1990 and the aluminum panels are in exceptional condition with many still having the original stickers attached. This Shelby Can-Am Racecar is a single seat, mid-engine sports racer. It is powered by a Dodge Shelby JB-1 3.3L, electronic fuel injected V6 with 10.5:1 compression, a dry sump oiling system and capable of up to 250 horsepower (@ 6800rpm) and 230 foot pounds of torque (@ 5200rpm). Mated to the engine is a Shelby W4-1 4-speed manual transmission and 230mm single disc clutch. It also has rack %26amp; pinion steering, 4-wheel disc brakes with 4 piston calipers, double A-arm fully independent front and rear suspension with single adjustable shocks, a flat bottom chassis, front adjustable spoiler and rear adjustable wing. The former owner certified to us that engine has zero time on it since its major overhaul in 2013, with receipts included.It%26#8243; not every day a phenomenal racecar, designed and built by Carroll Shelby, comes up for sale to the general public. Very few of these cars exist today. Most of the cars have made their way to South Africa where they are still raced today %26#8226; at least 28 out of the 74 built are there! This car is in original format and would make a killer collector car or as a Shelby museum piece! This Shelby Can-Am is sold on a Bill of Sale and has no title or formal registration. It is intended to be operated only by qualified and properly trained drivers.
