It was the first year for Porsche to introduce to the world long wheelbase cars, with sadly ending the rein of the long hood 4-cylinder rockets. According to the previous owner, a full restoration on this car was completed in 2013 and the car traveled less than 3,000 miles since. The car was completely stripped down and everything was removed. The body was sanded down and then prepared and repainted with the original color of Irish Green. Everything that was removed was sent out to be refurbished professionally, or replaced with new OEM parts. All aluminum trim pieces were removed and sent out and re-done. All trims and seals were replaced and new front windshield was installed. New horns and grills, new headlights, new tail lights lens and turn signal lens was all installed. The interior was completely redone in dark green color. New perforated leather and hounds tooth seats were installed. New door panels, headliner, carpets, and dash were also added. Brake pedal cluster was rebuilt with new brass bushings and repainted. New shifter bushing. All gauges were removed, checked, cleaned and repainted. Each and every bolt and nut for the engine and suspension was taken out and cab plated or zinc plated. All brake lines were replaced. Each and every part that was removed has been powder coated, such as hood hinges, deck lid hinges, A arms, spring plate, the complete suspension and all engine sheet metal pieces. Even the air cleaners were powder coated in glass shine finish. The engine was completely rebuilt with a 86mm big bore kit. All new gasket sets, new rod bearings, and new rings, valve job, new clutch disc, pressure plate trout bearing. The Solex carburetors were replaced with Webers and the original Knecht air cleaners were refurbished and reinstalled. The transmission is a 5 speed. It was open cleaned and checked. It shifts smoothly through all gears like it should. The front and rear suspensions were rebuilt with all new bushing, new shocks, front and rear, new brakes all around, new brake lines and hoses, new tires, front and rear.The fuchs wheels are flat 6j x 15, and they were polished and painted. Overall, this great looking 912 “Shamrock” runs and drives extremely well, with a comprehensive restoration job that speaks for itself. Only 200 of these 964s have been imported to the United States, which also included the C4 models. The car was purchased in April, 1994, by a gentlemen from Minnesota. He kept the car up quite well, with the first service record starting in July, 1994. In 2003, he sold the car to a gentlemen from Georgia, who continued servicing the car at an authorized Porsche dealership. In the span of his 13 year ownership, he added an Alpine Compact 6 Disc CD changer, and XM satellite radio. Both can be very easily removed. The overall condition of this 39,589 mile car is quite remarkable. The Guards Red paint is in great shape and all the rubber seals and trimmings are fresh. The interior is close to flawless, and everything has been greatly preserved and maintained. All the electronic instruments and gadgets work, and the AC blows cold. The underside is very clean, and of course, rust free. Performance wise, this Carrera 2 is absolutely a splendid car to drive. The engine pulls strong and the shifting is smooth. With 59,593 miles on the odometer, this car looks and drives like new. The car just underwent a 60,000 mile service and everything works and functions perfectly. This $4,500 work order was performed by Heyer Performance; a very reputable Porsche shop in Mountain View, CA. The blue, paint to sample exterior is in great condition and there are no visible scratches, dings, or chips. The interior is extremely nice as well, with the seats showing minimal wear; including the driver side bolster. There are no cracks or scuffs on the dashboard, and all the electrical instruments work properly. The engine and transmission is solid and the car does not leak any oil. The mechanics at Heyer Performance did a really nice job tuning this car up. The wheels were completely power coated in the original matching silver, and are absolutely flawless. Overall, this car is an absolute gem and investor's dream with a spotless Carfax, sevice records, owner's manual, tools, tire pump, and Porsche car cover. 1997 was the last year of air-cooled Turbos, making this one more desirable than the 1996 models. Also, in '97 only 612 Turbos were made, compare to the earlier '96 Turbos which they produced 1297 of. So overall, these appear to be more collectible and usually higher in price.
