It's also nicely finished, offers a strong-running 326 cubic inch V8, and a very authentic look that will make Pontiac purists smile. This LeMans is so authentic, it wears its original combination of Cameo Ivory over Saddle Bronze (code SC), a paint job that was applied about 20 years ago and still looks pretty darned impressive. The top is painted, not a padded vinyl roof, but the look is clean and simple on the angular Lemans bodywork and aside from some light orange peel on the C-pillars, the finish looks fantastic. There's an appropriate gloss that is straight out of the 1960s and despite being driven regularly, there are no major signs of use. In fact, it's pretty clear that someone took exceptional care of this car, despite it being an affordable Lemans instead of a high-dollar GTO. The other styling cues are the same, from the split grille to the well-sculpted quarters to the taillights, which are rumored to have been the most expensive ever made. This car also has some pretty darned nice chrome, including the bumpers and window trim, and even the '326' emblems on the front fenders, which it wears proudly. It's possible that many of the components inside the car are original, and while some things are showing their age, we wouldn't change a thing. The bucket seats are nicely broken-in while the back seat almost looks new, and we dig the low-key look of black and gold inside this car. There are no rips or tears in the upholstery, the carpet is in good shape with just some light fading, and that gold steering wheel looks fantastic. Factory gauges monitor the vitals and they didn't feel the need to add any aftermarket dials under the dash and even the original AM radio is still in place. Door panels are excellent and even the dome light still works! The trunk is outfitted with a brand new mat and spare tire cover, plus a full-sized spare and jack assembly for a very correct look. Pontiac's 326 cubic inch V8 was no slouch in the performance department and with a rebuild about 15 years ago, it still runs great. It's got an .030 overbore but is otherwise stock, so it runs and drives like it should and looks right with corporate turquoise engine paint and a stock style air cleaner up top. Power steering was added when the car was restored, and that makes a big difference in drivability, and with dual exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers, it sounds very GTO-like. The transmission is a PowerGlide 2-speed automatic feeding the original rear end, which hangs on a set of air shocks to help balance the ride. Experts will note it does have GTO exhaust tips, but otherwise it's quite stock. The front suspension has been rebuilt, the floors are in great condition, and it drives superbly overall. Factory steel wheels with hubcaps are fitted with new 205/75/14 redline radials that give it the perfect look. Documented with PHS documents, including a reproduction build sheet, plus a stack of restoration receipts, this is a great Lemans that's always been a favorite car. Forget fake GTOs, a real Lemans definitely delivers fun. Vehicle Information VIN: 237678P223047 Stock: 2170-ATL Mileage: 51,816 Color: Bronze Trans: Automatic Engine: MPG: Drivetrain: Description I think its unfair to call cars like this 1968 Pontiac Le Mans convertible a poor mans GTO. The truth is, they make fine cars without the hype that the GTO badge brings with it, and thanks to a gorgeous paint job and a few modest upgrades, this is an eminently usable drop-top cruiser that wont break the bank. Dragged out of a garage after years of storage, this Le Mans got a thorough once-over to put it in the condition you see today. Thats Atomic Orange paint, popularized on C6 Corvettes but no less attractive here. The super-straight bodywork wears it extremely well, accenting the subtle crease running between the wheel wells and showing of unblemished flanks that arent hiding behind body moldings. They had this car in pieces and wisely chose to not reassemble it as yet another GTO clone, and a lot of folks do a double-take when they see the Le Mans badge on the quarters. Two-stage urethane paint has a beautiful glow and a rich, deep shine that buffs up beautifully during your Saturday afternoon detailing sessions and obviously someone spent some cash on the chrome, because both bumpers sparkle. The more you look at this car, the more youll find to like. The black interior has all the right ingredients for a sporting muscle car, regardless of what badge is on the side. Black buckets flank a factory center console, proving that no matter what kind of Pontiac youre driving, its going to looks great. The seat covers and carpets are replacements, but its quite possible that the door panels are original and in great condition. A newer billet steering wheel looks right at home in the Pontiac, and the round gauge pods ahead of the driver carry original instruments that are a little faded but in good order. A hood tach was added during the build, and who can blame a guy for wanting one of the coolest options ever offered? Its joined by a stand-alone gauge under the dash in the usual location, as well as an AM/FM/CD stereo system that is ideal for top-down cruising. And speaking of the top, its a snug-fitting black power unit with a glass rear window. The trunk is pretty original, but in this cars case, thats a good thing because you can see that the sheetmetal is factory-issue. The original, numbers-matching 350 cubic inch Pontiac V8 provides plenty of motivation for the sparkling convertible, and it was given a slight custom look during the build. Most obvious is the body-colored block and ancillary components, suggesting someone with vision was in charge of putting this car together. It runs quite well thanks to a 4-barrel carburetor and aluminum intake manifold, and options like A/C, power steering, and power disc brakes mean that this is a car you could drive every day. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission snaps off crisp shifts and is also original to the car. Long-tube headers and a new dual exhaust system give it that distinctive Pontiac sound and years of storage pay off with a very tidy undercarriage. Giant 18-inch Boss Motorsports wheels sure are flashy and carry staggered 245/45/18 front and 275/40/18 rear Cooper radials. Forget badge-engineering, this Le Mans is a car you can be proud of for its own merits. After all, who wouldnt want to be seen in a cool ragtop like this? Call today! So I'll tell you up front that this 1967 Pontiac Lemans is a GTO lookalike, it doesn't have a matching numbers engine, and isn't a trailer queen. However, it is a great V8-powered convertible with an awesome look and plenty of performance, all for a bargain price, which really is what the hobby should be about. The bright red paint was sprayed not too long ago and shines up well. It's a great red, not too orange and not too bright, but a classic ragtop red that demands attention wherever it goes. You will find it utterly impossible to keep a low profile in this car and every place you stop, you'll find people are anxious to talk to you. Sound like fun? It is. And when they get up close, they'll find a pretty darned nice car, too, with good gaps, straight bodywork, and a very blurry line between Lemans and GTO. Let them make up their own minds about it, because you'll be having too much fun driving to worry about it. The small hood scoop, mesh grille inserts, and, of course, the badges, all scream GTO and the 1967 models are arguably the best-looking of the '60s. The chrome and brightwork are mostly original, so there's some age visible just about everywhere, but I don't think anyone will complain when they see this car in person. It's got a lot of charisma. The black bucket seat interior plays its role, too, with extremely nice seat covers done in the original style. New black carpets and correct GTO door panels help with the illusion, and all Pontiacs had great-looking instrument panels with round gauges. These appear to be original and cover the basics, and they're framed by a woodgrained applique that's bright and crisply rendered. Auxiliary gauges, including an oversized tachometer, have been mounted down low just above the console, so they don't interfere with the overall look but offer a lot more useful information for the driver. The factory AM radio remains in the dash, but there's also a modern AM/FM/CD stereo head unit stashed in the glove box, so you have modern sounds without the modern look, a nice feature. The black convertible top is in good shape and seals up well, and the trunk is outfitted with a carpet swatch and a reproduction mat. That 400 cubic inch V8 isn't original to the car, but it sure makes GTO-like sounds and horsepower. Dressed in Pontiac Turquoise and wearing chrome dress-up parts, it has a performance look and it does indeed run extremely well. A big aluminum radiator keeps it cool and the brakes have been upgraded to a dual master cylinder with power assist. The chassis is original, save for new sway bars, a recent dual exhaust system, and a new gas tank out back, and it drives superbly without that loose feeling of a neglected car. Flashy Cragar SS mags are a period look and carry 235/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials. This car deserves consideration simply because it eliminates all the usual headaches for a potential buyer. It's just a clean, fast, fun old ragtop, and for a lot of guys, that's exactly the right choice. An awesome example of Pontiac Pro-Touring muscle, it's got finesse, brutal horsepower, and incredible good looks, and with more than $157,000 in build receipts, you know it's off-the-charts amazing. It's kind of fitting that the basis of the first GTO was filled with the hardware from the last, and everything in-between is from the Excitement Division as well. The Le Mans bodywork never looked this good from the factory, and the slick little 2-door post coupe makes a fine foundation for a modern muscle car. The inky black sheetmetal almost looks shrink-wrapped over the mechanicals, and with the bumper tucked in close to the body, that hood scoop borrowed from a Super Duty Tempest, a 1970 GTO chin spoiler, and a ducktail spoiler from a '69 Firebird, there's plenty of Pontiac performance DNA to go around. Finish quality is quite good, with straight bodywork and a minimum of frills, although they kept the chrome details to make it sparkle. Note the fender ornaments above the headlights, the traditional Pontiac split grille, and the cool Pontiac chevrons on the quarter panels, all of which mean you can find something new to appreciate every time you look at the car. The red leather interior was plucked from a 2006 GTO, including the leather bucket seats that offer about ten zillion adjustments so it's easy to get comfortable. They're also heavily bolstered for the kind of performance this car can deliver, and they were seamlessly blended into the early car's interior. A tilt column holds a 3-spoke steering wheel that frames a full array of Auto Meter gauges in a shiny billet panel that looks old but is brand new. A fabricated center console holds the GTO's 6-speed shifter as well as the Pioneer touch-screen entertainment/navigation system, controls for the A/C, and a pair of cup holders that are surprisingly useful. New black carpets recall the original design, and you'll note that the door panels were custom made to eliminate the window cranks, as this car now has power windows. The trunk is also expertly upholstered with simple gray fabric and you can easily see the mini tubs that were installed to handle the oversized meats underneath. The hardware on this car is what is really impressive. The engine is an LS2/LS3 hybrid using the best of both worlds. A new Comp Cams camshaft went in, along with a set of ported heads and an upgraded intake manifold just a few months ago. On the dyno, it makes 525 horsepower, and considering how much lighter this Le Mans is than a late-model GTO, you know performance is explosive. Ultra-clean wiring and plumbing make the engine bay a showpiece and wherever possible, OEM equipment was retained to maximize reliability. And lest you think that this is just a straight-line machine, please take a look underneath where you'll find a full C4 Corvette suspension that includes a stout Dana 44 independent setup out back. Coil-over shocks, a custom dual exhaust system, and impressive attention to detail make this a car that's not only fast, but reliable, comfortable, and easy to drive every day. Big 4-wheel disc brakes keep everything under control, and even those giant chrome Corvette alloys carry Pontiac center caps for the perfect finishing touch. Staggered 245/40/18 front and 285/35/19 rear Kumho radials fit nicely inside the Poncho's fenders. This car is amazing in every possible way, and for the Pontiac fan, it represents a spectacular expression of Pontiac performance that can't be missed. Documented with thousands of dollars in build receipts, it's a car that's destined to generate some attention.
