After all, with less than 11,700 of these built, over 45 years ago, it's getting harder and harder to find V8 examples with bodies that look this good. Let's start with the amazing red paintwork. Sure, Pontiac gave you a like color from the factory, but its luster is no match for modern paint practices. With a shine this bold, it's a good thing this convertible has exceptional panel fit and uniform gaps. After all, imperfections can't hide from high-gloss. The design of these first-gen cars really lived up to the Firebird name, with a beak-like nose and slotted trim that looks like a bird in flight. This iconic appearance would never be complete without all this trim present like it is on this one. As an added brightwork bonus, chrome Cragar wheels were added just like you would have done if you were looking to grab attention in '69. You paid a little bit more for a Pontiac back in the day, and the difference can be seen inside where there's a delightfully upscale black interior. It has a great matching pattern on the vinyl high-back bucket seats that remains complete and fantastic today. This is a comfortable center console car, that has its fashionable black broken up by bright trim pieces, wood on the shifter, and three-spoke steering wheel. Like a good sports car, the driver's focus is on the deep dual-pod gauges, and right next to that is the switch for the power convertible top. There's even an auxiliary gauge to keep you updated on what's going on under the hood. This is the kind of engine bay you love to see in a driver's car. It has a few pieces for show, such as the bright air cleaner and valve covers. But, the flash does not distract from the honest appearance of this 350 cubic-inch V8. It still retains the correct Pontiac blue on the engine block, but all the plug wires and hoses that you know need regular maintenance appear fresh. It's this total package that makes you not hesitate to take this Firebird out for a drive, and that's exactly how this one should be seen. The V8 exudes a great sound out of the Flowmaster dual exhaust, and it has easy cruising features such as power steering and the TH350 three-speed automatic transmission. Fast and comfortable, this is the kind of red ragtop that you know you will always cherish. It's not just because '69 Firebird convertibles are becoming increasingly rarer every day, but also this is a great-looking American icon. This 1977 Pontiac Firebird might look like a pristinely restored Trans Am Special Edition car, but underneath the surface is a restomod with modern LS1 V8 power. The truth is these cars never look better than when they're dressed in formal black SE trim like this clean T-Top coupe. The black seems to highlight not only the aggressive shape, but the many gold-colored details practically leap off the glossy bodywork. And for a car that's coming up on its 40th birthday soon, this one sure looks good. It has super straight flanks that don't even show so much as a parking lot ding, and a extremely high gloss finish makes the black shine like chrome. The decals are in great shape too, with no checking or peeling. It's even clean on the chin spoiler, where most of these cars show their true wear. In fact, from the outside, this one looks pristine and stock right down to the iconic snowflake-style wheels. Of course, true Pontiac fans might recognize they are larger than stock, and by only offering little hints at higher performance, it allows this turn-key restomod to travel as an incognito classic. One look inside and everyone will know this car is more than just pristinely stock. Even those who didn't notice the "Trans Am LS1" custom stitching on the doors will instantly realize that the black suede-like, and tan leatherette materials, as something way too comfortable for the original '77 car. This pattern is matched on all four seats, including the late-model front buckets, and fits nice! The driver gets the iconic Trans Am three-spoke steering wheel, but beyond that is a custom panel with a full set of readouts. And just in case the "Bandit" badging on this wasn't enough to remind you that this is one wild ride, the B&M ratchet-style shifter will certainly do the trick. You'll love taking off the T-tops, so everyone can see you do your best Burt Reynolds impression, and just to make the Bandit feeling is complete, you can also turn up the Jerry Reed songs on your Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo. There might be the 6.6-litre callout on this T/A's shaker hood, but that's just to keep the original look from the outside as intended from the factory. Once you look under the hood, you see that shaker has been planted on top of a modern 5.7-liter LS1 motor. You might think that a smaller displacement means less power, but this fuel-injected modern V8 makes 40% more power than those emission-choked '77 engines ever could, and with Electronic Fuel Injection...just turn the key. All of this looks great packed into an engine bay that still had enough room left over for some interesting touches, such as the mean cold air intake air tubes coming out of the side diamond plate trim. Not only does this package produce plenty of power, but it also has a nice roar at higher RPM, thanks to the large diameter dual exhaust system. But this Trans Am is more than just about a high-performance bite. For example, the 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission is not only stout enough to performance shift, but also it's an overdrive unit that is good for cruising. The same can be said for the front disc brakes and power steering. So what you have is a package custom built to show off, and also has the right features to put a smile on your face even when no one is looking. The LS1 motor has some interesting Pontiac lineage, where it made its way into the last, and best all-around performing Trans Am. Wrapping that up in the most iconic T/A body is just an interesting, and fitting tribute to the Pontiac name. You can tell them all of this at the car shows, but that still might be tough. After all, that would mean you'd have to stop driving this exceptionally fun restomod long enough to park it for a few hours. We hope you fully read that sentence the first time, because this deal might not last lone enough for you to read this listing twice. This is no ordinary burgundy that's grabbing all your attention. It's all the gold flake and clearcoat that makes it radiate light even when this coupe is indoors (just wait until you see how sharp it is in the sunshine!) It's obviously not a factory color because this level of luster wasn't achievable until many years later. In fact, this Firebird has benefited from over $40,000 invested in a full frame-off restoration that happened less than 250 miles ago. It's also when the custom stripe was added on the hood that looks so fantastic with the subtle painted flames splitting the big, bold shaker. But beyond modern paintwork, this one gets its vintage fundamentals right, with the urethane nose in great shape, a tight-fitting spoiler, bright stainless window surrounds, and the classic chrome bumper that fits the contours of the sculpted rear end. And no matter if you're a fan of vintage or modern, bright American Racing Torq Thrust wheels are a timeless attention-getter. The interior was treated to a restoration around the same time as the exterior, and that's why it's just as bold and red as the outside. When you slip into the high-back cloth bucket seats, it has the kind of comfortable bolstering that lets you know there has not been much seat time in this one. You'll grab the iconic three-spoke Pontiac steering wheel with your left hand, but then you'll notice something very different behind it. The second generation Firebird has always had an attractive dash panel, but this new custom face, with a full set of AutoMeter gauges is a bold cut above. But beyond just style, it gives a much more complete picture of what's going on in the engine compartment. And that's not the only upgrade. Your right hand will be shuffling between playing modern tunes on the AM/FM/CD stereo system, and rowing through the Hurst performance shifter. When it came time to restore this Firebird, it also got a serious engine upgrade. There's barely over 200 miles on this 400 cubic-inch V8 since its rebuilt, and it was even given added reliability with components like the MSD ignition. Of course what you'll really love about this car is lifting the hood and showing off the shaker, and all those chrome pieces like the alternator and Edelbrock valve covers. But as powerful as this one is, it really is out to impress (just one listen to the rumble of the dual exhaust and you'll know this 'Bird is not shy!) You've got a four-speed manual transmission to keep in control of the powerband. And speaking of control, the power steering, front disc brakes, and modern BF Goodrich G-Force Super Sport tires make for an excellent handling package on the curvy backroads. There was big money spent of giving this Firebird a big personality with big power to back it up (and there are the restoration receipts to prove it.) But the amazing part is you don't have to spend big to take this one home. There's a huge upgrade under the hood to make this coupe finally perform as good as it looks. The second generation Trans Am was a seriously intimidating package. The wide ground effects in front of the wheel wells, integrated rear spoiler, and shaker hood, gives this a real presence on the streets. When the dent-resistant Endura front end is as complete as this one, it's not only a dead giveaway to some serious care and investment, but also it gives the Firebird Trans Am an aggressive beak that perfectly complements the famous "screaming chicken" on the hood and b-pillars. It only gets better as this whole car looks like it's breathing fire thanks to the blazing paintwork. It's the kind of bright red that helps grab attention away from the black Smokey and the Bandit replicas. In fact, this one reminds us a bit of another famous Burt Reynolds Pontiac. Remember the red Trans Am with chrome wheels from the movie Hooper? Yes, this one certainly looks the part from that speed demon stuntman flick. Just as that Pontiac was a famous for its surprise rocket power, this one also has hidden horsepower...but more on that in a minute. The fiery red attitude continues on the interior with the high-back vinyl bucket seats, door panels, carpeting, and center console all coordinating with this aggressive tone. But this is far from a sea of crimson. The there are bright touches all around including the door handles, window cranks, and the three-spoke steering wheel. Of course the most famous shining piece is the iconic machined aluminum inlay that covers the whole dash panel. There are modern components, too, including an AM/FM/CD player and all the gauges have been upgraded to Marshall units with a digital odometer. We've hinted at something wicked in the engine bay, but all you have to do is pop the hood to see that this one can barely contain all of its power upgrades. The top motor that came in the Trans Am in 1977 was an emissions-choked 400 cubic-inch V8. So that engine has been ditched recently in favor of a larger 455 block, from an era when muscle cars still had real muscle. This whole setup was rebuilt 1,500 miles ago to include a durable nodular iron crank and newly machined heads (2.11 x 4.980 intake and 1.77 x 5.230 exhaust.) New go-fast add-ons include a Lunati camshaft (490 lift, 292 duration, 110 centerline), .030 TRW overbore forged pistons, Mallory high-output performance distributor, and Doug Thorley ceramic coated headers. You better believe these upgrades help make a serious rumble out of the quad-tip dual Flowmaster exhaust. All this power is sent through a stout TH350 three-speed automatic. It includes a Summit Racing 2500 RPM stall converter to keep this motor deeper into its powerband at all times. Of course the Trans Am was known to be one of the best handling cars of its time, so this one knows how to go around corners. This is enhanced by the front disc brakes and grippy BF Goodrich G-Force Tires riding on 17-inch American Racing alloy wheels. This is one fire-breathing screaming chicken that finally has the performance to live up to its aggressive looks. The Trans Am of your dreams won't last long at under $25K. Well this 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA is the rare kind of coupe that is available at an ultra affordable price...for now. The GTA was the pinnacle of Pontiac performance of the '80s. It could be optioned with an engine related to the Corvette, and it received the biggest tires, biggest brakes, and the best full body kit, including rear wing, to represent all-out performance. 1987 was the first year they offered the now-legendary GTA package, and less than 1,800 were built in white. This is arguably the best color on this coupe just because it makes the standard tinted windows, and tinted rear taillight panel look so bold. For a genuine classic that has past the 25-year-old mark, it also looks remarkably well preserved, with a respray of the original color, blemish-free ground-effects, and the original vented hood that always looks so aggressive. But when a GTA is at the car shows, you know everyone is focused on those cool factory crosslace gold wheels. Inside is everything you want from an original GTA. It starts with the new bucket seats that include electronic inflatable bolstering for extra comfort in all conditions. The driver gets the three-spoke steering wheel, with the proper GTA-specific badging. Beyond that are a full set of clear analogue gauges. Because this was the top-of-the-line car for Pontiac, this one is loaded. This includes power windows, power locks, power steering, cruise control, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo. Everything is original and working right down to the cold-blowing air conditioning. There was one option everyone looks for in the GTA, and it's the Corvette-derived L98. This one was ordered with the upgrade direct from the Norwood, Ohio plant, and it still resides under the hood today. The fuel-injected V8 has been kept in original condition, and you know it has been well cared for, averaging less than 2,100 miles a year over its lifetime. GM's 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission was a good paring because its stout nature can handle the power and torque produced by the upgraded engine. Plus, it's quick shifting nature, and overdrive setup, made it versatile for everything from street to highway use. But besides the drivetrain, the GTA was the king of the streets because it received the WS6 suspension as standard. This is the package that kept the Trans Am on top of enthusiast lists through the 70s and 80s, and the GTAs were quiet about this big upgrade with only little indicators like on the centercap of the wheels. Speaking of the wheels, this one includes four-wheel disc brakes and grippy Yokohama tires for excellent performance. This first-year Trans Am GTA has always been treated with the classic status it deserves. That's why it comes with the factory buildsheet, original bill of sale, warranty card, owner's manual, and maintenance records. Hard to believe this full package is available for under $15K...You know it won't be this affordable, or available, forever. This one doesn't fail to turn heads by reversing the well-known white with blue stripe Trans Am package, so that it is instantly recognizable, and distinct at the same time. When it's combined with the deep chin spoiler, hood scoop, air extractors on the front fenders, and a ducktail spoiler, the look is full-on aggressive. Best of all, this is a super straight body, with uniform gaps, so all the pieces align as they should. Correct decals were installed, and while they're not exactly subtle, they're a far cry from what the Trans Am would become later in the decade. The wide front grilles, the flared fenders, and all the other little details that make these cars special also combine to make it one of the most feared, and recognizable, predators on the street in the 1970s. There's not much chrome left, but that rear bumper doesn't look out of place and shines up nicely under the slick rear spoiler. A classic black interior continues the no-nonsense performance attitude, and everyone loves bucket seats with a center console. The three-spoke steering wheel is now an icon, and the machine-turned dash panel is a high-performance look that goes back to the earliest days of racing. Great-looking gauges monitor the vitals with big, easy-to-read, round dials arrayed ahead of the driver. There's even an AM/FM/CD stereo head unit in place and the original 8-track is still present! The 455 cubic-inch V8 under the hood fills the engine bay with American muscle, and the silver paint and polished valve covers do a nice job of grabbing attention after everyone gets drawn in in by the shaker style Ram Air cover. This monster motor breathes through long tube headers before giving off a thundering sound from the Flowmaster dual exhaust. You'll love this package on the road, as a tip of the throttle will feel like diving into a well of bottomless torque. Pontiac's combination of performance and luxury was hard to beat, so this car includes nice cruising extras like the TH350 three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes. It's topped off with Rally II style wheels wearing modern BF Goodrich T/A rubber at all four corners. Big power, with a look to match. This is the one you'll love to simply go out and have fun with your big block Poncho. Add in a handsome interior, and you have a great choice for warm weather fun. There's no sneaking around in a Firebird convertible painted Flame Red. It's dripping with the kind of shine that rivals the cool chrome bumper/grille. Good bodywork underneath surely helps, and the crease that runs from nose to tail is crisply defined, and the gills in the quarter panels are a cool contrast that helps break up the otherwise smooth body. It's really nicely done too! A convertible that has been restored but not modified means no deck lid spoiler or other add-ons, just a clean F-body that looks like a million bucks. This one is not too boisterous beyond its hood scoops and rally wheels with PMD center caps. Instead, it simply lets the hardware to the talking. The black bucket seat interior is neatly done, and appears factory spec at first glance. A center console is a welcome upgrade as well as the air conditioning. The knob-style radio looks the part, but it's really a modern tuner with remote control, digital media hookup, and a kickin' subwoofer in the trunk. Everyone can enjoy those upgrades, but this is really the driver's treat with a custom three-spoke sport steering wheel. It frames the custom Sport-Comp gauge set that goes well beyond the factory's original information, with readouts for everything from the oil pressure, to air/fuel mixture. While this is the perfect sunny day machine, the power folding white vinyl top is in the ideal condition to ensure this is an all-weather friend. These first year Firebirds topped out at 400 cubic-inches. That was plenty of power, but this one hides a secret that comes from later in the muscle car wars. This '67 is running a extremely desireable, monster 455 V8 borrowed from a '71 Pontiac. It gets both more aggressive and bulletproof, thanks to upgrades like a high flow water pump, high torque flywheel, high torque starter, and flame thrower ignition. This whole package creates a seriously sweet sound from the dual exhaust. It's backed up by a stout TH350 three-speed automatic transmission, which also makes this the perfect cruiser. Add in the power steering, front disc brakes, and modern BF Goodrich T/As at all four corners, and this big motor ragtop is also a fine Sunday driver. This Pontiac's great original looks are backed up by the owner's manual and service books. And its restoration and upgrades are documented by plenty of photos and receipts. So yes, this is the kind of amazing Firebird that won't stick around here long. I mean, after all, RKMC does attract people who bleed 100 octane racing fuel; and Pontiac, at its core, was completely dedicated to selling outrageous metal to serious gearheads. So naturally, we can't help but melt like a hot tire in a staging lane when we find a car like this investment grade Trans Am Super Duty. A concours-restored national award winner, this numbers-matching Poncho is 1 of only 212 1974 Super Duty coupes equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission. And if you're a Firebird enthusiast who's searching for an exclusive F2 that you can literally purchase and haul straight to the show, it's your chance to become king of the muscle car hill! BODYWORK/TRIM Sold new at Mall Pontiac in Dayton, Ohio, and claiming a mere 15,401 original miles, this restoration-fresh Trans Am is simply spectacular. With a 3-owner body that seems to have been fairly straight when the restoration began, it should come as no surprise that panel gaps are excellent and fit feels rock-solid. By the looks of that body's smooth finish, Super Duty expert Steve Schappaugh probably spent weeks blocking and sanding every one of its panel in hopes of forming a laser-straight showpiece. And once those panels' correct coat of Cameo White two-stage was decorated with standard Trans Am call-outs, he definitely accomplished that goal. Today, with unique visual sizzle that's as classy as it is aggressive, this top notch Super Duty is a highly desirable example of a major milestone in Pontiac history! 1974 was a defining year for the Firebird. Sales were brisk and new 'low speed' crash mandates required that the car either be completely redesigned or jump on the bandwagon of hideous and hastily done nose jobs that were creeping into every automaker's showroom. Instead of bowing to cost, Pontiac assembled a talented engineering staff, which managed to blend both functionality and style into the well-integrated profile you see here. At the front of that profile, a 'black bar' nose hangs a standard screamin' chicken emblem between clean headlights, clear parking lamps, familiar Pontiac grilles and a road-hugging spoiler. At the top of that nose, a screamin' chicken hood centers an "SD-455" branded shaker in front of pristine greenhouse glass that's framed in bright stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, conservative door handles and small sport mirrors reflect traditional fender vents and correct fender flares. And at the back of the car, a subtle spoiler highlights clean taillights, chrome exhaust tips and a second 'black bar' bumper. ENGINE The heart of any muscle car is its engine, and this Poncho's brawny Super Duty moniker is no misnomer. The largely hand-built SD-455, which features significantly reinforced components, shares little more than a displacement number with its more common brethren. And this car's highly detailed mill, balanced, blueprinted and completely rebuilt in June of 2015 by Ken Maisano Race Engines, complements a correct 490132 casting number with a January (A) 09th (09), 1974 (4) casting date, correct "W8" assembly stamp and matching partial VIN. At the top of the big engine, traditional Trans Am induction funnels fresh wind into a big Rochester carburetor and correct Pontiac intake. That intake sends a high-octane air/fuel mixture into unique, high-flow cylinder heads that are equipped with familiar, stamped steel valve covers. And those heads utilize a roster of high performance internals to create rocket-like acceleration. That acceleration is sparked by a traditional points distributor, which sequences fire through fresh Packard TV R Suppression cables. Spent gases are handled by fully restored exhaust manifolds, which roar into correct, true-dual tail pipes. And heat from that combustion is controlled by a leak-free radiator, which services fresh hoses via new tower clamps and a familiar plastic shroud. Aesthetically, this Trans Am's first class engine bay is 100% ready for show. The mighty mill displays a slick coat of correct Pontiac Turquoise all the way from its intake to its oil pan. The car's fenders, firewall and hood are covered in a smooth layer of GM Satin Black. And niceties such as new decals, new stamps, a Delco battery and a fresh Delco Moraine brake booster can be found in all the right places. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION At the bottom of this slick, second generation Firebird, solid floorpans reflect years of easy living. Behind the mega mill, a correct Borg Warner T10 4-speed hangs a familiar 1304065903 casting number below a correct partial VIN. That transmission, fully rebuilt in April of 2015 by Westminster, California's Westminster Transmission, sends power to a sturdy 10-bolt rear end. Below that stellar drivetrain, a rebuilt Trans Am suspension, which includes correct power steering, thicker sway bars, better shocks and stiffer springs, combines with standard issue power front disc and rear drum brakes. And at the center of the car, a Gardner true-dual exhaust system barks out a deep, vintage roar. All this road ready hardware rolls on an attractive set of Pontiac Rally IIs, which spin GR70x15 Goodyear Steegard Radials. And everything under this killer classic is restored, clean and ready to roll. INTERIOR When it comes to interior dcor, Pontiac's 70s team was firing on all eight cylinders. While this coupe's insignia may be considered overkill, and its horsepower rating might seem relatively modest compared to earlier muscle cars, there's no disputing the beauty of its design. The rebuilt custom bucket seats are supple, firm, and look every bit as nice and rich as their name implies. Below those seats, like-new carpet is protected by color-keyed floor mats. And between those seats, a molded console props an enclosed storage bin behind a chrome Hurst shifter and correct Delco radio. At the top of the car, a stain-free headliner stretches tightly between fresh shoulder belts. At the sides of the car, hard to find door panels hang pristine chrome handles between chrome window cranks and full armrests. In front of the driver, a fixed steering column spins a black Formula wheel around an engine-turned instrument panel. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk hangs a fresh decklid decal above a full-size spare tire. HISTORICAL INFORMATION Here's a detailed look at this hot coupe's VIN and cowl tag. About the RK Motors Performance Center Regardless if your vehicle is going through our Seal of Approval Exit Service, Basic Safety Check, routine maintenance or a full custom built to your exact specifications, the RKM Performance Center has the knowledge, experience and resources to fulfill your automotive needs. In the world of electronic fuel injection and computer diagnostics, even late model dealerships look a little uncomfortable working on pre-OBD1 cars. There are many independent mechanics and shops that may be able to help, but putting your prized classic in the hands of a stranger is a leap of faith at best. This is exactly why we created the RKM Performance Center. Being proud members of SEMA, ARMO, HRIA and the North Carolina Motorsports Association, the RKM Performance Center is a nationally recognized shop; best known for high level OEM restorations and custom builds. Comprised of ASE certified mechanics, including several Master Technicians, you can feel confident that your car is in capable hands. As fellow enthusiasts, they are passionate about cars and will treat yours with the respect it deserves.
