This is a 1973 Plymouth Satellite/Road Runner clone. Road Runner stripe and bird decals all the way around, correct Road Runner dash and gauge cluster. Correct Road Runner hood in matte black (original Satellite hood also available). Factory air, power steering and power brakes. Excellent interior, seats and headliner (there is a small crack in the dash). New steering wheel (original also available) and new stereo. New voltage regulator, coil, fuel pump, A/C clutch and A/C fan switch. A/C and heat both work. Wheels and tires like new. The engine is a 318 small block with Edelbrock 4 barrel carb, mild cam, new dual exhaust Flomasters out the back, original cast iron exhaust manifolds. Engine and transmission built by Frank Teague of Teague Automotive & Racing in Hickory, NC. There are a couple of items that still need work: (1) Possible short in wiring to headlights (2) Speedometer bounces, fuel and oil pressure gauges don't work all the time (extra Road Runner gauge cluster included for parts and replacement). My son is in school and won't be available to work on these items until June, so we are selling the car as-is with these items identified. This is the perfect vehicle for someone who wants a classic Mopar daily driver without spending the outrageous amount of money usually required.

Well, you should have a wildly popular halo that generates huge buzz and creates truckloads of revenue. In the case of Plymouth and their coveted Road Runner Superbird, that wasn't quite the result. In fact, the division managed to barely surpass the 1,920 cars required to meet NASCAR's renewed homologation rule. And while these slow sellers lingered on lots and didn't do much for the brand during their day, their outrageous nature virtually guaranteed that, in time, they would become exclusive classics serious collectors dream of owning. This highly authentic Superbird is a fully documented, 3-owner dreamboat that wraps rare Black, White and B5 Blue aesthetics around an original 440/A727 drivetrain. And if you're a serious MoPar enthusiast who's looking for a crown jewel classic to lead your collection, it's a chance to turn your reverie into reality! HISTORY Throughout the '60s, Chrysler and Ford were heavily vested in the "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" sales mentality. And Dodge's Charger 500, despite its NASCAR-inspired tweaks, just wasn't getting the job done. In an attempt to one up Ford's slick and equally fast Torino, Chrysler went to the drawing board and began exploring aerodynamics. While aerodynamics wasn't a new concept, it had yet to be seriously studied by major auto manufacturers. And Chrysler's foray into the subject eventually culminated in testing full scale models at Lockheed Martin's North Carolina wind tunnel. Engineers quickly realized the benefits of a wind-cutting nose, but the real epiphany came when they employed a large rear stabilizer. Not only did that 'rocket nose' and 'park bench' spoiler combination create 'zero lift' downforce, it also produced immense directional stability, permitting speeds in excess of 200 MPH. Not surprisingly, Dodge's storied Daytona won the first race it competed in, and would eventually become one of the most successful NASCAR stock cars of all time. And Plymouth, looking to lure NASCAR star Richard Petty back into the fold, followed Dodge's impressive Daytona with the equally slippery, and some say better, Road Runner Superbird. BODYWORK/TRIM Like many investment grade classics, this impressive Plymouth spent the majority of its 46 years in the hands of one very meticulous enthusiast. Traded in 1971 by its original owner, the car was nabbed by that enthusiast for a whopping $3,300 from Al Davenport Plymouth of Portsmouth, Virginia. In 2012, when that enthusiast decided to pass his beloved 'bird to a third owner, the car benefitted from a thorough, 1.5-year restoration that consisted of a little bodywork and quite a bit of detailing. During that refresh, Accomac, Virginia's Durbin's Auto Body stripped mostly original sheetmetal, welded up a fresh trunk pan, sprayed correct Blue Fire Metallic 2-stage and installed a fresh vinyl top. And today, this warrior rolls as one super slick, all-American muscle car that's so cool it'll make you feel guilty! ENGINE Raise this coupe's long hood and you'll find an original, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that's authenticated by a familiar 2536430 casting number and matching partial VIN. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, and almost as feared as Plymouth's 440 6 BBL, this Super Commando V8 was designed to offer an exceptional combination of speed and civility. Oxygen whips through a correctly decaled, dual snorkel air cleaner to a big Carter carburetor, which is bolted to a glossy, Hemi Orange intake. At the front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences fire through reliable 7mm High Temperature plug wires. Behind those wires, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correct, cast iron exhaust manifolds. Cooling is provided by a big, 26-inch radiator, which utilizes pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps to channel water past a correct, 7-blade fan. A correct MoPar red cap utilizes an old school Chrysler voltage regulator to supply the jolts. And, aesthetically, everything in the clean engine bay presents great; from the car's cool factory decals and B5 Blue fenders to its old school washer reservoir and requisite Road Runner horn. According to this Plymouth's current owner, neither the big 440 nor its A727 companion has ever been fully rebuilt. And after the car's restoration, the moody 6 BBL induction noted in accompanying build photos was happily exchanged for a correct 4-barrel set-up. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this specialized B-Body on a lift and you'll find a fully sorted undercarriage that, thanks to an acute combination of low mileage and impeccable maintenance, remains very close to the way it left the Lynch Road assembly line. Factory undercoating protects solid floors that, while exceedingly nice, certainly aren't a stranger to the blacktop. Behind the Super Commando, an original A727 Torqueflite hangs a high performance "PK3410670" assembly stamp opposite a matching partial VIN. That proven transmission sends power to a correct 8.75-inch Chrysler rear end that spins a correct Sure Grip differential around correct 3.55 gears. At the front of the car, Chrysler's beefy Hemi Suspension utilizes heavy-duty torsion bars, an A12 sway bar and standard power steering to make quick work of big bumps and tight curves. At the back of the car, that same Hemi Suspension hangs correctly staggered springs at the sides of fresh KYB Gas-A-Just shocks and a stainless fuel tank that feeds stainless fuel lines. Stops come courtesy of standard power front disc and rear drum brakes. Spent gases traverse polished stainless tubes on their way to an H-shaped crossover, polished Dynomax mufflers and correct stainless tips. And all that MoPar goodness rolls on stylish Rallye wheels, which twist F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires around bright stainless trim rings and color-keyed center caps. INTERIOR Inside this famous Plymouth, a striking White & Black interior adds to the car's rare and exceptionally attractive aesthetics. Correct bench and bucket seats display no significant signs of wear. In front of those thrones, a straight, crack-free dash hangs correct Rallye gauges beside a correct AM/FM radio. At the bottom of that dash, well-maintained carpet centers a factory shifter on a correct console. At the sides of that carpet, bright door panels complement bright door frames. Above those frames, a tight headliner backs a cool Richard Petty autograph. In front of the driver, a correct, wood-trimmed steering wheel spins satin spokes around a cool Road Runner centerpiece. And behind the passengers, the car's cavernous trunk hides a fresh mat beneath a fifth Rallye wheel and a fifth a Goodyear tire. PROVENANCE In addition to significant historical provenance, this Plymouth's substantial documentation includes Galen Govier Fender Tag and Broadcast Sheet decodes. With the big motor to back up its appearance, this bird doesn't spread its wings; it flexes its muscles. Black is beautiful. That's why this one was switched over from a see-you-coming red to a much more stealthy hue. In fact, only those who take a closer look at this coupe will see the cool matte black strobe stripe decals running down the rear pillar. The only reason these graphics can be seen is because the slickness of the black paint job gives it a shine that rivals the brightwork. The Road Runner was given its new fuselage styling in '71, which hid the front end behind a chrome bumper surround. The nose shields the headlights to make them look like a criminal trying to hide his face in a hoodie. Check out the grill area with the yellow inboard headlights, what a great touch. Pulling up behind someone at a stoplight definitely makes for a sight in their rear view mirror. And the callouts on the hood hint that this is one Mopar not to be messed with. Out back you see the same effect, where the top half of the rear beholds darkness with the decklid and spoiler. It's only on the lower half that you find shiny chrome with integrated taillights and chrome exhaust tips. This could hide in the shadows waiting to pounce if it were not for the attention-grabbing American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. This set is 17-inches in the front and 18-inches in the rear to help give the coupe an even more menacing stance. The interior is just as fashionably dark as the exterior. The new carpet, headliner, and seat covers keep everything looking midnight fresh. There's a new set of gauges mounted on top of the dash for a contemporary heads-up feeling showing fuel and temperature. Another modern upgrade is the retro style AM/FM stereo that's iPod compatible so you can still play your modern tunes. But it's the original options that really make this Road Runner desirable. The high-backed vinyl bucket seats have enough padding for long-haul comfort but fit your body better than any bench. The center console is another sought-after piece because its angular design does an attractive job of filling the space in-between the seats, but also it's in the perfect position to rest your arm while holding onto the floor-mounted automatic transmission. This panel has the dark wood insets that match the dashboard for a touch of class and color. Another eye-catcher that breaks up the darkness is the original Road Runner cartoon emblem in the center of the original three-spoke steering wheel. Did you think we didn't see the writing on the hood? Those 440 callouts, and hood pins, are a warning to those that this Road Runner might just be a hawk in disguise. It's powered by a monster 440 Magnum out of a later model Mopar (Bluesmobile anyone?). The V8 has been upgraded with a four-barrel Edelbrock carburetor and electric choke. If this motor looks especially clean in the engine bay, it's because the whole setup was rebuilt less than 1,000 miles ago. This big V8 has a throaty dual exhaust that makes a far more manly tone than just "beep-beep". By the way, the purple horn does that for you. As much as this Road Runner looks like its ready to turn Wile E Coyote into a speed bump, there's obedient side to this wild child. This coupe comes with a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, and Pirelli P Zero tires for exceptional grip. Road Runners have always offered great power and at good price, but this one goes one step further. It offers the right touches and a menacing look to be a truly intimating muscle car. Mopars certainly don't stay in our showroom long...Call now!! 1971 Plymouth Road Runner for Sale 1971 Plymouth Road Runner for Sale Stock # 3266-CHA Charlotte Showroom 5400 West WT Harris Blvd Charlotte, NC 28269 Local/International: (704) 598-2130 Toll-Free: (866) 542-8392 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Atlanta Showroom 213 Thornton Rd Lithia Springs, GA 30122 Local/International: (678) 279-1609 Toll-Free: (877) 367-1835 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Dallas/Fort Worth Showroom 5400 Sandshell Dr Fort Worth, TX 76137 Local/International: (817) 764-8000 Toll-Free: (855) 877-2707 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM CST Sat: 9AM - 5PM CST Email: [email protected] Tampa Showroom 4610 Pet Lane Lutz, FL 33559 Local/International: (813) 501-1630 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] TERMS OF SALE 1. Want it in a package that doesn't require red ropes and a car bubble? Well, as the old saying goes: "Car culture starts where the assembly line stops". And now that more and more authentic, numbers-matching Hemi cars are being confined to private collections, enthusiasts are filling the void with creations like this awesome Road Runner. The beneficiary of a professional restoration, this sweet coupe wraps 472 cubic inches of big block bliss in head-turning yellow aesthetics. If you've always dreamed of owning first-class MoPar muscle, but don't want the inherent stress that comes with authenticity, here's the perfect solution! BODYWORK/TRIM An authentic J-code Road Runner that was originally decked in triple green, this Plymouth is the graduate a comprehensive, 2009 restoration that married an exceptionally solid body with high quality replacement quarters. Once that body's broad shouldered profile was correctly aligned, a smooth coat of GM yellow 2-stage was complemented with an old school hood stripe. And the result is one ultra-straight, fully detailed pavement pounder that inspires comments and elicits stares every time it hits the road. Every bit of this Plymouth's factory-spec ornamentation is bright and extremely clean. And while it's really hard to determine whether all those baubles are original, they certainly look nice! At the front of the car, a black-inlayed grille hangs four halogen headlights between a broad bumper, crystal clear parking lamps and an offset "PLYMOUTH" header. Behind that grille, a "HEMI" branded hood centers small scoops between ornate turn indicators, matte-finished windshield wipers and like-new glass that's framed in fresh black vinyl. Below that hood, slab-sided body panels hang traditional door handles and a familiar Chrysler mirror above stylish marker lamps, subtle Road Runner call-outs and a requisite pentastar emblem. And at the back of the car, polished exhaust tips found a second broad bumper beneath crystal clear taillights and premium decklid trim. ENGINE Toss the vivid hood and you'll find 472 cubic inches of Hemi fury! Supplied by Bouchillon Performance Engineering, that balanced and dyno-ed mill utilizes a Scat 4340 crank, Scat 4340 rods, Diamond pistons, Mahle rings and a Comp hydraulic cam to twist 525 horsepower into 540 lb./ft. of torque. That star-studded lineup lives in a Hemi Orange Mopar Performance block, which hangs polished valve covers, Trend 4130 pushrods and lightweight aluminum heads over correct, low-restriction exhaust manifolds. Era-correct Carters and a big aluminum intake supply a perfect mixture of fuel and air. Compression is sparked by quality Taylor plug wires, which are snapped onto a Mopar Performance distributor. And a Chrysler-branded radiator utilizes an aluminum water pump to cool resultant combustion. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks great, from its gray latch and bright fenders to its old school fluid reservoir and tagged MoPar battery. And functionally, a quick turn of the car's ignition results in big power and great acoustics. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this bird on a lift and you'll find a solid chassis that's no stranger to sunny miles and good times. At the center of those bones, a rebuilt A727 3-speed features upgraded internals that do well pacing the buff Hemi powerplant. That '70s-era auto applies power to a familiar Dana 60, which spins a Sure Grip differential around 3.73 gears and proven Moser axles. Below that first-rate drivetrain, a fully sorted suspension has been completely rebuilt to include staggered leaf springs, factory power steering, and power drum brakes that operate on low vacuum at idle. The aforementioned acoustics are created by large, true-dual pipes, which make excellent use of an H-shaped crossover, clean DynoMax mufflers and polished tips. Power meets the pavement via reproduction steelies, which spin redlined 215/70R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radials around clean Plymouth center caps. And naturally, the car's original, lightly undercoated floors feature fresh stainless fluid lines and a fresh stainless fuel tank. INTERIOR Counter to today's obsession with technology and convenience, it seems old school American muscle cars only needed black vinyl, a bit of stainless trim and essential instrumentation to strike a perfect balance of 'instantly classic' and 'perpetually cool'. And when you open this Road Runner's solid doors, you'll find a cockpit where legendary MoPar power melds seamlessly with a stylish, no-nonsense driving environment. At the center of the car's floors, front bucket and rear bench seats have been stuffed with firm padding and topped with pleated covers. At the sides of those seats, weather-free door panels hang chrome-tinged armrests under bright trim and glossy frames. At the bottom of those panels, tight carpet appears fresh and free of fading. On top of that carpet, a silver-trimmed console anchors a curved shifter between factory courtesy lamps. The car's all-business dash hangs rebuilt factory gauges beside a Plymouth Solid State 8-track player. In front of the driver, a monochromatic steering wheel spins a silver horn ring. And behind the passengers, the car's fully restored trunk is authentic all the way down to its full-size spare, refurbished jack and simple decklid decal. Numbers-matching cars are great, but classics like this fully restored Road Runner are what make this hobby so much fun. It combines a slew of trophy winning ingredients with a price that's quite a bit lower than most finicky show queens. And best of all, you'll have a fully sorted street fighter that can be driven for years to come! If you're ready to relive the golden age of Detroit in a muscle car you can actually enjoy, pick up the phone and claim this awesome yellow MoPar! I bought this car from the individual that owned it during restoration. I have lots of pictures of the restoration. Glass is original as far as I can tell. It is numbers matching. I have the original wheels, carb and steering wheel that go with the car. Vintage A/C was added. The only thing that I have done is have the transmission rebuilt by Passon Performance in Pennsylvania. It has been driven and enjoyed by previous owner and I have driven it maybe 300 miles since I bought it. The Odometer reads 11891. I don't know if that is since restoration, total , or what. It is an excellent car that is fun to drive that needs a new owner to love and enjoy it. I am working towards another car so this one needs to go. Please don't hesitate to call and I will try and answer any questions you have. There are no warranties and you need to arrange shipping or pick up. Vehicle will be released and title signed when payment clears my bank. Funds needs to be certified check and I will give you an address to send payment to. Car for sale locally as well so I reserve the right to end auction early. Thank you for looking, Chuck 919-730-2061.

The 'coolest of the cool' that's survived almost 50 years of vehicle downsizing, fuel thirsty gearheads and stoplight fisticuffs? Well, you don't have to worry about getting pinched back to reality this time because this killer Plymouth Road Runner Superbird is a fully documented, mostly original muscle car that's comfortable on either the strip or the show field! Not only is this awesome coupe a highly exclusive wing car that sports just 29,768 miles, it also wears 100% original sheet metal, features a correct 440 6 BBL powertrain and sports a fresh white on black color combination. If you're looking for a bad to the bone investment that's fun to look at, a blast to drive and ready to hit the show circuit as soon as it rolls out of our showroom; congratulations, you've found your next car! With an original window sticker and two original broadcast sheets, there's no questioning this Plymouth's well-preserved authenticity. Here's a detailed look at how the car rolled down Chrysler's Lynch Road assembly line: FENDER TAGRM23:- R: Plymouth Road Runner- M: Medium- 23: 2-door hardtopV0A:- V: 440 cubic inch V8 that utilizes three 2-barrel carburetors to produce 390 horsepower- 0: 1970 model year- A: Produced at Chrysler's Lynch Road manufacturing facility162346: Assembly sequence numberE87: 440 cubic inch high performance V8 that utilizes three 2-barrel carburetors to produce 390 horsepowerD32: Heavy duty automatic transmissionEW1: Alpine White exterior paintH2X9:- H: High trim grade- 2: Vinyl bench seats- X9: Black interiorTX9: Black door framesB30: Assembled on November 30th, 1969J97583: Order numberV19: Special order full vinyl roofV88: Transverse R/T stripe delete26: 26-inch radiator EQUIPMENT LISTED ON THE BROADCAST SHEET:A13 Superbird PackageA36 High Performance Axle PackageB41 Front disc brakesB51 Power assisted brakesC23 Rear armrests that are complete with ashtraysC65 Air Foam bench seatsC93 CarpetingD32 Heavy duty A727 Torqueflite transmissionD56 3.55 gearsE87 440 cubic inch high performance V8 that's complete with three 2-barrel carburetorsF25 Mopar red cap batteryF96 Oil pressure and temperature gaugesG41 Rearview mirror that's complete with day/night modeH11 Heater that's complete with a defrosterJ11 Glove box lockJ15 Cigar lighterJ25 Variable, 3-speed wipersJ45 - Hood pins that are complete with lanyardsL76 Heater control lampM21 Drip rail moldingsM81 Front bumper guardsN41 Dual exhaustN42 Chrome exhaust tipsN51 Maximum engine coolingN65 7-blade fanR11 Music Master AM radioS15 Hemi extra heavy duty suspensionS25 Heavy duty firm ride shocksS31 Front sway barS77 Power steeringS79 Steering wheel that's complete with a lower half horn ringW21 Rallye wheelsU84 F60x15 red-wall, polyglas tiresV01 Monotone paintV19 Special order vinyl roofV88 Transverse R/T stripe deleteY39 Special order car Throughout the '60s, Chrysler and Ford were heavily vested in the "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" sales mentality. When you take a close look at this super clean coupe, it seems only fitting that the car's entire 43 year existence was spent in the hands of one very meticulous owner. Purchased new by Ronald North of Huntington, Indiana, it's the recent beneficiary of a modern, two-stage paint job. Thanks to very little exposure to the elements, that unique body was a solid, all-original piece that needed nothing more than prep work. A correct layer of Alpine White presents exceptionally well and, when combined with matte horizontals and correct Superbird call-outs, creates iconic muscle car looks. And today, this Plymouth is one stunningly straight showpiece that has no gremlins, suffers no thin spots and displays a high level of fit and finish. As you step back and stare at this 'bird's sinuous body, many adjectives come to mind. Wicked... Astonishing... Dreadful... Infamous... But, in reality, Chrysler spent a lot of R&D time making sure the car fit one specific descriptor: functional. Every piece of this Road Runner was whittled to maximum efficiency in pursuit of one goal: lapping large race tracks at a very high rate of speed. At the front of the car, a downforce producing nose hangs sleek, flip up headlights between a small grille, standard hood pins, hidden parking lamps and a body-matched chin spoiler. Behind that nose, drag reducing air extractors lead the eye to a cool 'Hustle Stuff' tachometer, clean glass and a show worthy combination of straight stainless trim and pliable black vinyl. At the sides of those extractors, prominent fender lines and Superbird-specific C-pillars frame bright marker lights, a correct Chrysler mirror and familiar chrome door handles. And at the back of the car, a Superbird-specific wing rides above a small "road runner" emblem, clear tail lights, a prominent "P L Y M O U T H" script, bright exhaust tips and an original chrome bumper. Raise this coupe's long hood and you'll find a correct, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that's fully detailed, completely sorted and ready to go. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, and almost as feared, Plymouth's 390 horsepower, 440 6 BBL powerplant was designed to be the industry's best combination of comfort, streetability and big block performance. Oxygen whips through a correctly decaled cleaner to three 2-barrel carburetors, which are bolted over a glossy, Hemi Orange intake. In front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences fire through fresh Chrysler Electronic Suppression wires. Behind those wires, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correctly restored exhaust manifolds. Cooling is supplied by a big, 26-inch radiator, which utilizes pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps to send water past fresh V-belts and rebuilt engine accessories. Power is provided by a tagged Mopar red cap battery, which is wired to a correct Chrysler voltage regulator. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks spectacular, from its new decals and Alpine White fenders to its old school fluid reservoir and clean Road Runner horn. And functionally, a quick turn of this Plymouth's ignition results in a rumbling, high-performance idle, hot or cold. Hoist this specialized B-Body and you'll find a fully sorted undercarriage that, thanks to an acute combination of low mileage and impeccable maintenance, rolls exactly the way it came down Lynch Road's assembly line. A clean layer of undercoating protects weather-free floorpans that, while exceedingly nice, certainly aren't a stranger to the blacktop. Behind the Super Commando mill, an original A727 Torqueflite, which wears a matching 162346 partial VIN, provides solid, poignant shifts through all three gears. That proven transmission sends power to an 8.75-inch Chrysler rear end which is equipped with correct 3.55 gears. At the front of the car, Chrysler's beefy Hemi suspension utilizes Cosmoline-replicating torsion bars, an A12 sway bar and standard power steering to make quick work of big bumps and tight curves. At the back of the car, that same Hemi suspension hangs correctly staggered springs at the sides of a painted, leak-free fuel tank. Stops come courtesy of standard power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust is handled by aluminized tubes that bend around an H-pipe crossover, traditional turbo mufflers and correct stainless tips. And all this Mopar goodness rolls on pristine Rallye wheels which twist F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around subdued center caps and bright stainless trim rings. Inside this famous Plymouth, a completely original interior is clean, well-optioned and surprisingly stylish. Seating, an ultra-rare all-bench set up, displays no significant signs of wear. In front of those benches, a straight, crack-free dash hangs original factory gauges beside a familiar Music Master radio. At the bottom of that dash, well-maintained carpet is protected by rubber, "road runner" branded floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, original door panels carry the seat's silver stripe motif around black frames, dent-free stainless and traditional chrome hardware. Above those panels, old school shoulder belts frame a tight, black headliner. In front of the driver, a monochromatic steering wheel spins a silver horn ring around a cool Road Runner centerpiece. And behind the passengers, the car's cavernous trunk is complete with a plaid mat, dual decklid decals, a correct tire and an original jack. Like most of our investment grade classics, the sale of this awesome Superbird includes substantial provenance. Free from all the nonsense add-ons that have increasingly clouded our driving experience for the better part of five decades, the car is tailor-made to be one of the most exclusive and uninhibited classics on American roads. And, in addition to having a number's-matching 426 and correct row-it-yourself gearbox, this impressive Plymouth wears a professional restoration that's highlighted by correct Platinum Metallic pigment. If you're in the market for some solid, investment grade metal that'll continue to rise in value, here's your next prospect! BODYWORK/TRIM Assembled at Chrysler's Lynch Road facility in May of 1969, this spectacular pentastar is the beneficiary of a professional restoration that appears to be holding up very well. During that thorough rebuild, the car's straight body, which includes solid-closing doors on top of great panel alignment, was massaged into virtually flawless surfaces. Once those surfaces were completely clean and fully prepped, a sinister coat of correct Platinum Metallic 2-stage was buffed to a glossy shine. And, according to the car's accompanying documentation, this clean Plymouth now rolls as a precise replication of its spring 1969 appearance with the exception of a basic Black interior. ENGINE Toss this coupe's light hood and you'll find an original, 426 cubic inch Hemi V8 that's authenticated by a famous 2468330 casting number and matching partial VIN. As Plymouth's top option for power hungry gearheads, Chrysler's legendary elephant block utilizes cast iron heads, an oversquare bore, a forged steel crank, forged steel rods, forged aluminum pistons and a hydraulic cam to twist stout 10.25 to 1 compression into a stated 425 horsepower and 490 lb./ft. of torque. All that high performance hardware spins in a glossy, Hemi Orange block that hangs attractive, Organisol-coated valve covers over correct, low-restriction exhaust manifolds. A perfect mixture of fuel and air is supplied by correct Carter carburetors and a correct aluminum intake. Compression is sparked by pliable wires that are snapped onto a correct points distributor. And resultant combustion is cooled by a big, 26-inch radiator that's fitted with Mopar-branded hoses via old school squeeze clamps. Visually, the car's Platinum engine compartment is clean and understated... Well, as understated as a classic Hemi can be. The big mill performs as well as it ever has. And naturally, details like factory decals, a MoPar-topped battery and a familiar Chrysler washer reservoir have been professionally restored or completely replicated. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Slide under this solid B-Body and you'll find a lucid chassis that's fully sorted and ready for the road. Bright silver paint highlights exceptionally clean floors. Behind the Hemi, a correct A833 4-speed is tight and shifts like new. That stalwart gearbox sends power to a correct Dana 60 axle, which spins a Sure Grip differential around 3.54 gears. Naturally, that spirited driveline hangs in a completely restored suspension, which is fitted with Gas-A-Just shocks and factory power steering. Stops come courtesy of big drum brakes. Exhaust is handled by large-diameter tubes, which bend around an H-shaped crossover and Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers. And all this MoPar goodness rolls on Platinum Metallic wheels, which twist 205/75R15 Coker Classic redlines around Plymouth Division center caps. INTERIOR Swivel this Plymouth's level doors and you'll find a familiar Black interior that's functional, straightforward and very livable. A retrofitted front bucket and rear bench seating combination is wrapped in pliable vinyl covers that display hardly any signs of severe wear. Below those seats, stain-free carpet frames a correct Hurst shifter. At the sides of that carpet, black door panels perfectly complement black door frames. In front of those panels, a "road runner" branded dash seats standard telemetry above a cool Chrysler Solid State. In front of the driver, a simple steering wheel spins a correct horn bar around a colorful Road Runner centerpiece. And behind the passengers, a nicely finished trunk hides a correct jack and spare tire between a plaid mat and new decklid decal. HISTORICAL INFORMATION Since our sale includes both an original broadcast sheet and a Galen Govier VIN and fender tag decode, there's no questioning this Plymouth's mostly accurate restoration. Here's a detailed look at how the car rolled out of Chrysler's Lynch Road manufacturing facility. These were all about offering the most power bang for the buck, and this coupe takes it one step further. This is possibly one of the most attractive Road Runners you can find while still looking absolutely original. The blocky body and steel wheels have the unflinching authority of a police car. But even within this industrial aggressiveness is room for some great styling touches like the seldom-seen Plymouth rocket logo on the hubcaps, and the rear fenders that extend past the wide rear light bar to create a Frenched look. But what really makes this coupe standout is the paint. The factory-correct Bright Blue Metallic has been resprayed with such care that you can't help but stare. In fact, the color looks like it was borrowed from the Warner Brothers cartoon character on the door, and if that idea doesn't delight the car show judges, nothing will! Open the door, and you'll find one of the best interiors you will ever see on a Road Runner. Where most of these are dark-and-stark budget classics, this car features a seriously attractive two-tone blue. The vinyl seats and door panels are looking great, and it keeps plenty of original elements, including the heater/defrost controls and the AM radio. The bench seats of this big coupe make it a legitimate six-passenger automobile, but it's the driver that's clearly the most important in this Plymouth. You get a three-spoke wheel for the optional power steering, and beyond that are the easy-to-read factory gauges. But since they don't provide all the necessary information, there's also a large column mounted tachometer to help with optimal shifting. Plus, there are three auxiliary gauges to monitor the water temperature, oil pressure, and voltage of the monster motor. In 1968 the base V8 for these Road Runner was the 383 cubic-inch unit. That's a great motor, but it was no match for the 440 available in the pricey GTX. So while this coupe was being restored, it got a serious upgrade in the engine compartment. This one also received extra performance goodies such as a four-barrel carburetor, intake, and MSD Blaster ignition coil. The combination of the four-speed manual gearbox and upgraded power means you are in complete control of the enhanced brutish symphony that comes out of the Flowmaster dual exhaust. Road Runners are now an icon of how Plymouth made the muscle car available to the everyman. The horn might still go "Beep! Beep!" but the rumble this one makes going down the road means this is no kid's show. But, simply put, the true theme of the resto-mod movement is: the best of everything. And if there was ever a textbook example of a true-to-form resto-mod, this Plymouth Road Runner has to be it. Showcasing the hard work of very skilled enthusiasts who understand how to enhance the best attributes of a slick, frame-off restoration, this exemplary coupe features a slew of top-shelf modifications. If you're in the market for an incredible classic that can be shown and driven with the best muscle cars on the road, we've got two words for you: "Beep! Beep!" BODYWORK/TRIM After spending most of its life as a clean driver, this awesome B-Body was the perfect starting point for a professional, rotisserie restoration that mixed a killer engine with classic MoPar attitude. The car's straight body was stripped to bare metal, fitted to a few floor pan patches and finished with a fresh trunk pan. Once those planes were completely clean and fully prepped, quality PPG basecoat was detailed with custom Road Runner graphics and sealed in glossy clear. And today, this primed and polished Plymouth sits as one super slick road warrior that features a perfect combination of no-nonsense looks and vicious street manners. Admittedly, the Road Runner was a little more ambiguous than its Dodge-branded siblings, but a lot of people like that contrast and dig the model's super clean looks. At the front of this coupe, a black-trimmed, body-width grille hangs four H4 headlights above a mirrored bumper and clear parking lamps. Above that grille, a familiar A12-style hood flows to like-new glass that's sandwiched between fresh stainless trim, silver stainless wipers and filled cowl. At the sides of that hood, subtly sculpted panels hang a chrome driver's mirror above shaved fenders, shaved doors and sectioned quarters. And at the back of those panels, a clean decklid centers a color-keyed wing above factory-fresh taillights and a second mirrored bumper. ENGINE What do you do when you have a sweet MoPar muscle car that needs a heart transplant? You call Alpharetta, Georgia's Grimes Automotive Machine and order something akin to this Plymouth's 500 cubic inch Chrysler big block. According to 2013 dyno results, that mill, essentially a bored, stroked and built 440, moves to the tune of 579 dyno-proven horsepower and 625 lb./ft. of tire-spinning torque! At the top of the block, a K&N XStream air cleaner forces wind in to a big Holley carburetor that's cinched to braided fuel lines. At the base of that carb, a MoPar intake feeds air and fuel to Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, which have been ported, polished and treated to a multi-angle valve job. Beneath those heads, forged internals, which include an Eagle crank, Scat rods and Wiseco pistons, combine with roller lifters, roller rockers and a custom-grind Comp hydraulic roller cam to create stout 10.5 to 1 compression. That compression is sparked by an MSD Pro-Billet distributor, which sequences fire between an MSD Blaster 2 coil and MSD Super Conductor plug wires. When that fire flashes, Hooker Super Competition headers ensure the engine breathes well. At the front of those headers, snazzy March serpentine components spin a billet power steering pump and polished Powermaster alternator at the sides of a quality Edelbrock water pump. At the front of the engine bay, a proven Griffin radiator makes good use of dual SPAL puller fans. There's an impressive roster of hardware that includes, but isn't limited to, a Milodon windage tray, a Wilwood master cylinder and tough ARP bolts. And aesthetically, the Jet Black mill provides an excellent contrast to the car's bright red fenders, with details like tubular chassis supports, color-keyed Mopar Performance valve covers and intricate breathers supplementing power with polish. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Like its slick exterior and clean engine bay, the bottom of this coupe is a great combination of past and present. The powerful engine sends thrust to a Keisler-sourced Tremec TKO600 5-speed that enables the car to comfortably attain highway speeds. That proven transmission twists a tough Keisler driveshaft and familiar 8.75-inch axle, which spin a posi-trac differential around big, 3.91 gears. That awesome drivetrain rides between beefy sway bars, Fatman drop spindles, modern coil-overs, small lowering blocks and Competition Engineering shocks. Turns come courtesy of factory-style power steering. Power-assisted Wilwood calipers provide stops. 3-inch exhaust employs electronic cutouts in front of dual-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. Torque meets the pavement through polished Billet Specialties SLGs, which spin 245/45ZR18 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 295/45ZR18 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs. Naturally, the car's painted frame and undercoated floors are solid and display no signs of major rust or serious weathering. And yes, in typical resto-mod fashion, there's a roster of great finishing components, including stainless fluid lines, polygraphite bushings and sturdy subframe connectors. INTERIOR Pop this Plymouth's tight-fitting doors and you'll find a custom leather interior that plays on the car's incredible aesthetic. An attractive bucket and bench combo has, like the rest of the cockpit, been decked in clean, silver accents that do a great job of mimicking snakeskin. In front of those mitts, a custom, color-keyed dash hangs Auto Meter Ultra-Lite II telemetry beside an MP3-compatible Pioneer head unit that controls Kicker speakers, a Kicker amplifier and Kicker subwoofers. At the base of that dash, a custom console centers a TKO Pistol Grip shifter in front of a broad armrest, a small fire extinguisher and metal cupholders. Beneath that console, tight carpet bridges the gap between machined foot pedals, stainless sill plates and body-matched doorjambs. At the edges of that carpet, custom door panels hang polished handles between glossy frames, snakeskin armrests and small switches for modern power windows. In front of the driver, a polished and half-wrapped Billet Specialties steering wheel was specifically chosen to match the car's rolling stock. And behind the Dynamat-wrapped cockpit, a custom, Road Runner-themed trunk features plenty of room for car show supplies. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION AND ACCESSORIESRestoration photosRestoration receiptsA cam cardA dyno sheetComponent paperworkA Plymouth tag Are you looking for big power, great handling and a tailored appearance that's fit to impress? Congratulations, you've found your next classic! Fully sorted, road-ready muscle cars don't get much nicer than this awesome Road Runner. The beneficiary of a professional, frame-off restoration, this sweet coupe wraps 472 cubic inches of big block bliss in head-turning yellow aesthetics. If you've always dreamed of owning first-class MoPar muscle, but don't want the inherent stress that comes with authenticity, here's the perfect solution! BODYWORK/TRIM An authentic J-code Road Runner, the car graduated from a 2009 rotisserie restoration that married an exceptionally solid body with high quality replacement quarters. Once that body's broad shouldered profile was correctly aligned, a smooth coat of yellow 2-stage was complemented with an old school hood stripe. This is the more desirable hardtop coupe version that blends the pillarless doorframe with a blocky muscular stance. Plus, this one has the right kind of modern touches to make everyone take notice. You could get bronze from the factory, but it never looked as good as this. The paint on this coupe is shinier than a new penny, but it doesn't lose its mean attitude thanks to the satin black hood stripes. The custom wheels match this darker design, which just adds to the aggressive attitude. This look is a true standout in the crowd of animated colors that most others put on their cartoon bird coupes. But this one still keeps plenty of its cheery charm. The wide B-body design means the chrome bumpers look like a huge grin at both ends on the car, and of course, it wouldn't be a true Plymouth Road Runner without the Warner Brothers bird making a speedy getaway on each door. Road Runners were about offering serious power in a budget-friendly Plymouth, so it's always nice to see some extras in the interior. Bucket seats and a thick wood steering wheel make for an especially nice cruising machine for the driver. Plus, there are the nice modern touches such as the aftermarket oil pressure gauge and the AM/FM/CD player. But overall, the sinister attitude of the exterior seems to creep inside. A rich shade of black covers the seats, door cards, headliner, and dash to make this feel like permanent midnight. That's no accident, because the horn might still go "Beep! Beep!", but the rumble from the exhaust means this is no kid's show. Every Road Runner was a V8 muscle car, but not every bird was created equal. This one comes with the largest motor Plymouth was producing at the time, the mighty 440 cubic-inch big block. One look at it underneath the hood, and you can tell there was serious money spent on this coupe. Not only was this motor a product of a beautiful and meticulous build 300 miles ago, but also it was set into an engine bay that again, looks better than anything that came out of the factory. In other words, you'll for sure be leaving the hood open at all the car shows. While this monster motor can make plenty of power on its own, it was also given some performance upgrades such as an MSD ignition, performance headers, and a Flomaster exhaust system. It all hooks to the street just fine thanks to modern Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires. You don't even have to be afraid to cruise all day in this beastly bird thanks to the three-speed automatic transmission and front disc brakes. This is a seriously nice coupe, and the quality only adds to its sinister looks. It's intimidating, but once you get over it, you'll also find a beautifully built piece of Mopar muscle. It's no secret quality is not lacking in this build...call now!! 1969 Plymouth Road Runner for Sale 1969 Plymouth Road Runner for Sale Stock # 3045-CHA Charlotte Showroom 5400 West WT Harris Blvd Charlotte, NC 28269 Local/International: (704) 598-2130 Toll-Free: (866) 542-8392 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Atlanta Showroom 213 Thornton Rd Lithia Springs, GA 30122 Local/International: (678) 279-1609 Toll-Free: (877) 367-1835 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Dallas/Fort Worth Showroom 5400 Sandshell Dr Fort Worth, TX 76137 Local/International: (817) 764-8000 Toll-Free: (855) 877-2707 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM CST Sat: 9AM - 5PM CST Email: [email protected] TERMS OF SALE 1. And while there are a few oddballs thrown in to that mix, the vast majority of those offerings are immaculate first generation cars that, while awesome, remind some people just a bit too much of Grandma's Belvedere. So, what about the classic car collector who wants a more tailored, more unique Road Runner? No worries, we have something for them too! A concours-restored, numbers-matching showpiece that's graced multiple magazine covers, this killer coupe will show, and go, just as well as any of its older brethren. Rare from day one, the car is 1 of only 109 6 Barrel/Torqueflite Road Runners produced for the 1971 model year and, currently, is believed to be 1 of only 12 that still exist. So, if you're ready for some exclusive MoPar muscle that's a little outside of '60s boxy, take a long look at this Rallye Red Plymouth! BODYWORK/TRIM Produced in Windsor, Canada, this slick Road Runner met its first owner, a 23 year old car enthusiast, at L.P. Stuart Plymouth in Washington D.C. on March 17th, 1971. That young man would enjoy the car until 1985 when, suffering mildly rusted corners, it was posted in the For Sale section of a local trade paper. The car's second owner, dedicated MoPar enthusiast Leon Perahia, wanted to conduct a concours-style restoration using only NOS parts and, after eight years of sourcing, completed what had become an incredible project. That project began with a rotisserie breakdown that included media-blasting all the car's panels all the way to bare metal. Once that metal was smooth and clean, NOS quarters were welded up. With those quarters assembly line-solid, a correct coat of Rallye Red paint was complemented with a correct, black roof. And, after six months of assembly, this Plymouth rolled out of Perahia's garage an ultra-straight, fully detailed award winner! Refinished during the thorough restoration, every bit of this MoPar's factory ornamentation presents extremely well. At the front of the car, a broad, chrome-trimmed grille centers a small Road Runner likeness between bright headlights and crystal clear parking lamps. Behind that grille, a striped Air Grabber Hood centers an otherwise wind-cheating scoop between stainless pins, an intricate Plymouth header and optional turn signal indicators. Above that hood, like-new glass rides behind pristine frames, straight drip rails and color-keyed mirrors. Below that glass, slab-sided body panels hang mirrored door handles and dent-free wheel lips between segmented marker lamps, Road Runner quarter regalia and bold "440-6" call-outs. And at the back of the car, a broad bumper centers fresh tail lights between a small Road Runner emblem, a striped valance and slotted exhaust tips. ENGINE Lift the car's long hood and you'll find an original, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that supplements a correct 2536480 casting number and matching partial VIN with a hydraulic, flat-tappet cam and high quality stroker kit. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, and almost as feared, Plymouth's storied 440 6 Barrel was designed to be the industry's best combination of comfort, streetability and big block performance. Oxygen whips through the car's Air Grabber Hood to an NOS-decaled cleaner and three Holley 2-barrels that are bolted to a factory-spec intake. At the front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences spark between an old school MoPar voltage regulator and correct, Chrysler Electronic Suppression cables. At the sides of that intake, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correctly restored exhaust manifolds. Cooling comes courtesy of a 26-inch, NOS-tagged radiator, which rides in front of Chrysler-branded hoses and simple squeeze clamps. And a stalwart MoPar red cap kicks everything in to motion. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks spectacular, from its correct markings and Rallye Red fenders all the way to its old school fluid reservoir and familiar Road Runner horn. And functionally, a quick turn of the car's ignition results in a rumbling high-performance idle, hot or cold. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION This Plymouth's chassis specs leave little question as to why Chrysler's B-body architecture was such a huge hit with performance car fans. Take a step under our lift and you'll find a tough ol' stoplight skeleton that's been carefully refurbished to appear just as it rolled off Windsor's storied assembly lines. Behind the thumpin' RB, an original A727 Torqueflite twists power to a correct, NOS-restored Dana 60 Super Track Pak rear end. Below that proven drivetrain, a familiar front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension has been completely rebuilt to include correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. Opposite that satin chassis, painted floors sport everything from a new fuel tank and fresh fluid lines to correctly coated wheel wells. Turns come courtesy of correct power steering. Exhaust is handled by free-flowing, 2.5-inch pipes, which jettison cooked dinosaurs through an H-shaped crossover, throaty mufflers and slotted stainless tips. And power meets the pavement through silver Rallye wheels, which spin G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around bright trim rings and charcoal center caps. INTERIOR Counter to today's obsession with technology and convenience, it seems old school American muscle cars only needed simple stitching, a bit of stainless trim and essential instrumentation to strike a perfect balance of 'instantly classic' and 'perpetually cool'. And when you open this Road Runner's solid doors, you'll find an NOS cockpit that, thanks to stitching by Legendary Auto Interiors, creates a stylish, no-nonsense driving environment. Front and center, correct bucket seats frame a correct console, which frames a correct T-handle shifter. At the sides of those seats, weather-free door panels hang fresh chrome hardware under fresh stainless trim. At the bottom of that console, like-new carpet stretches tight under stainless-trimmed foot pedals. In front of the driver, a Road Runner-branded steering wheel spins around rebuilt gauges and an old school Chrysler Solid State radio. And behind the cockpit, a dressed and decaled trunk features a correct jack and full-size spare tire.
