This particular truck represents Ford's top-of-the-line offering in 1978; the Ranger XLT trim package includes the bright polished side trim, rear tail lamp and tailgate trim, bright drip rail moldings, chrome front bumper, two-tone paint scheme, and special badging. Inside, it includes wood grained dash and door panel trim upgrades, full carpet, and fancy seat trim. Other top options include the powerful 460 V8 engine, C6 automatic transmission, full power steering (not power assist as in earlier years), and power disc brakes. Driving this truck is an absolute pleasure; everything works, it drives straight down the road, turns precisely and easily, and stops as though new. The engine is not only very powerful, but very smooth-running as well. Smooth acceleration to freeway speeds and beyond. The Camper Special option adds heavy-duty rear axle, overload springs, increased cooling, heavy-duty transmission, heavier brakes, and other features to ensure easy and reliable hauling and towing. These trucks were built to tow and haul at freeway speeds, with enough power to pass lesser vehicles going uphill. Mechanically, she's just about perfect. Easy cold starting, choke warms up the engine, kick it down for a smooth idle and you are ready to go. Brakes are great, steering tight, suspension supple and strong. Cosmetically, she's beautiful. Mostly original Dark Brown Metallic paint with factory Tan two-tone accent still shines and looks great. Brightwork, trim, glass, etc. are excellent. Original wheels and hubcaps, nice radial tires. Grill is excellent with no cracks or breaks. The body itself is very straight, and has no outer body, floor, rocker, etc. rust issues... very dry and rust free. The interior is all original with the exception of the radio (upgraded and working), and the added Indian Blanket seat cover. The original seat does have wear in the driver's side area, as does the carpet. The original headliner has shrunken a bit, as they all do. Dash is perfect with no cracks, door panels are excellent, and the overall interior impression is one of clean, well-cared-for quality. The heater and defrost work very well, all the gauges work, all the lights, signals, etc. work. Even the horn works. In short, this truck is a wonderful example of Ford's finest era of truck building. You'd be hard-pressed to find a nicer truck anywhere near this price range. The truck is also outfitted with a heavy-duty receiver hitch and trailer wiring out back, and a trailer brake controller in the cabin. The removable hitch and ball also come with it. While not a flawless show truck, this is a very good-looking mild custom that you could get in and drive every day. And to anyone your driving by 10' away, it does look like a show truck. Very good-looking, clean, and unique while not being over the top. Custom bodywork includes rear tail light and bumper elimination, rear roll pan with custom tail lights, and a 1979 rectangular-headlamp grille and surround. The paint is a two-stage metallic Copper; it still looks great from 10-15' away; clear coat has begun to fail in some areas on the flat surfaces, and the clear has been touched up. The pictures of the truck were taken from 10-15' away, so you can get a genuine feel for how it looks. The outer body is very straight, with only minor dings, scratches, etc. The interior features newer carpet and headliner, nicely painted dash to match the exterior, a nostalgia Hot Rod steering wheel, good contemporary stereo, and full gauges. Again, not flawless, but good-looking and clean. The truck features new wheels in a custom black metallic finish, and big BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires; 295/50-15's out back *(their largest!), and 235's up front. The truck runs beautifully, drives out straight, and has great brakes. Nothing funny or in the least concerning about its' mechanical condition; get in and go. It is well sorted out mechanically and inspires confidence when driven. Factory dual fuel tanks have been used regularly since new, and are in proper working order. It has a small 4" Rancho suspension lift kit (blocks rear, springs front) and matching Rancho shocks, as well as dual steering stabilizers. The lift puts it about where it would be if it were a factory Hi Boy, so it looks right. 4-wheel drive transfer case works exactly as it should. The paint is original, with touch-ups here and there, and a repainted hood (close match but not exact). No structural rust at all, no rust at all in the bed, and only minor rust in the door corners and rear quarters as shown. This truck came from the factory with a 302 2v engine, and 3-speed C4 automatic transmission, both of which have been rebuilt and are in fantastic working order. It is a turn-key runner and driver, and in very sound condition all around.Specifics as follows: -One older repaint in White and Gray, not a great job but an overall good-looking and sound paint job -Very straight body in all respects; no major damage -Very nice trim including new front bumper, restored grill, new XLT side trim, etc.-Good windshield, new tinted side- and back glass -Engine is the original 302 2v rebuilt including a cam, rings, bearings, oil pump, etc.-Transmission is the C4 automatic, also rebuilt -New dual exhaust system sounds fantastic -Interior is very decent and includes a newly-upholstered bench seat, and headliner -Chrome modular wheels with decent radial tires -Good power steering and power brakes -Runs and drives beautifully As you can see, the truck is in very nice overall condition, with straight body panels and a sound older "15-footer" repaint still showing nicely. There is very little rust to mention: some minor blistering in some body seam areas, down low, but nothing through or major Overall, the truck appears to be very sound. Mechanically outstanding, the 302 Cleveland engine was rebuilt at some time in the recent past, and features a slightly bigger cam, new rings, bearings, oil pump, timing set, etc. as well as a newer dual exhaust system. Easy starts, smooth running. The interior is nice and features new seat upholstery, and a new headliner. Clear title in hand, matches the VIN exactly for export or inspection. Please be prepared to pay in full within three days of auction's end via cash, major bank cashier's check (must wait for funds to clear issuing bank PRIOR to releasing the vehicle and/or paperwork), deposit into my Bank of America account, or bank-to-bank funds transfer.
