This 1966 OldsmobileToronado is a time capsule This car was ordered new by G. Walker of Indiana, with all the bells and whistles. Deluxe model withCustom ordered Parchment Interior (Off White) black Dash, inserts andcarpet. Tinted windows, windscreen, retractable seatbelts. Power windows, powerbrakes, A/C etc. It also came with the rare option of reclining front passenger seat He passed away in 1980.It was then inherited by his daughter & son in law. It was very well takencare of by them for a decade and almost complete service records arethere. In 1981 the Transmission was professionally rebuilt byAmco at 40,000 miles at a cost of $ 675. In 1988 they started a complete restoration on the car. Engine professionally rebuilt & repainted at 97307miles in 1988 including new PS pump & starter. Total cost $ 2391. In 1989it was completely stripped down to bare metal, all / any rust repaired andrepainted at a cost of $ 2,666. In 1990 the interior was completely redone,Seats, Carpet, headliner, visors, felt, door panels & trunk liner.All records and documentation are there and will come with the Car. Thereafter it was sold to a collector in Kentucky and it sat in his garage for almost 25years. The interior of the car was covered with blankets all this while and thus survived very well. The car has now received a brand new Satin Black paintjob that gives an excellent sheen to its muscular lines. This is NOT a RAT ROD black or Flat Black, but a nice Satin finish. If you prefer another colour,this is an excellent undercoat to get a show quality finish. General Motors, in 1965, knew exactly what Oldsmobile stood for: "Engineering," says former Olds designer Stan Wilen. Olds made apoint of accentuating its engineering leadership. If you were looking forsomething nicer, sportier than a Chevy, you'd buy a Pontiac. If you were tooembarrassed to buy a Cadillac, you could buy a Buick--it was a doctor'scar." On October 14, 1965, in an effort to maintain its crown as GM'sengineering division, Oldsmobile launched the all-new Toronado, its mostradical car in a 68-year history of innovation. Enter the Toronado. Weighing 4800 pounds, 211 inches long,and riding on a 119-inch wheelbase and the first front-drive production carmade in America since the 1937 Cord 810 and 812. Its long hood and short,"true" fastback deck proportions were exaggerated, but the longdash-to-axle ratio betrayed what lay underneath: a longitudinal 425-cubic-inch,90-degree V-8 engine. With a dual-snorkel air cleaner, an extra-large intakemanifold, and twin exhaust pipes, the Toronado had a gross output of 385horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. The new Toronado was the talk of the industry and motoringpress at its debut and a month later was selected by Motor Trend magazine to bethe publication's 1966 'Car of the Year'. One of the finest designs of the era, if not the singlefinest. A pinnacle car from a pinnacleera. Then add the Deluxe edition and youhave the finest of the rarest. Never again will therebe such power Cruisers. Not a Toy for boys but a piece of American Automotive History. Anappreciating asset that can be enjoyed by its proud owner. The 66 Toronado is a muscle car that crosses boundaries froma very capable street fighter to a high end luxury car. Because of that, and because it cost morethan just about any other muscle car of the era makes for the possibility forone like this to exist in original form. Something this expensive was less likely to have the standard issuemuscle car abuse and neglect program given to GTOs, camaros, etc... thenslapped back together then called original today.
