0 0 1 670 3821 Quick Dog Productions 31 8 4483 14.0 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Collectors are eyeing post-war classics for their timeless beauty and reliability, and judging by their climbing values now is an excellent time to get into the market. One of the most successful selling post-war cars of the Fifties was the performance-oriented 1952 Oldsmobile 98, which was offered as a coupe, convertible or sedan. It was every bit the national newsmaker... as Oldsmobile engineers redefined what it meant to introduce a performance-oriented passenger car. The ’52 Olds 98 was a model of efficiency thanks to the 303 cubic-inch “Rocket” engine, a reliable V8 that produced 160 horsepower and 283 lbs. ft. of torque, specs that are still impressive today. From the Quadra-Jet four-barrel carburetor to shorter piston strokes and high lift valve action, the 7.5:1 high-compression Rocket engine simply couldn’t be beat and it wasn’t long before buyers scrambled to their dealerships as word spread of its performance edge. Yet, it was much more than engine performance that sold buyers on the Olds 98, the car was nearly unmatched in terms of drivability and factory options and accessories.A rigid X-member frame, hydraulic steering, longer wheelbase, dual stabilization, improved weight distribution and a noise-proof driveline all played into the marketability of the Olds 98 line. People simply couldn’t get enough, and Olds executives were eager to please. Here’s a stellar example of the Olds 98 sedan. This 1952 Olds 98 sedan (VIN 529M21734) recently saw more than $27,000 in documented restoration and service work. Mechanically, it is nearly as solid as it was the day it rolled off the assembly line. The odometer reads 91,987 miles, which is believed to be correct. The Rocket engine in this classic 98 saw a complete restoration in 2015. All under hood hoses, belts and lines were ultimately replaced during the restoration. Even the water pump, generator and radiator are new. The ignition system also got considerable attention and the distributor, coil and plugs as well as the 6-volt battery are new, too. In keeping with a proper restoration, the entire engine wiring harness, including the under dash harness was meticulously replaced. Once checked for functionality, every associated gauge and sending unit that didn’t pass inspection was replaced. The careful attention to detail applied to the fuel system, intake and carburetor, too. Not to overlook anything, the entire braking system was thoroughly cleaned, lubed, bled and adjusted and ultimately the wheel cylinders, rubber hoses and metal lines were replaced. Even the master cylinder is new. Obviously, a complete fluid change throughout, and a major tune up followed this extensive powertrain restoration. The list of improvements and replacements is long, however, a whirl around the city tells the whole story. The drivability of this Olds 98 is remarkable given it is now 63 years young. The ride is smooth and the steering is responsive. At idle the engine purrs like a kitten and under acceleration the response is immediate and the shifts are crisp. The 98 sedan handles as expected for such a large car and braking performance performs remarkably well. It is ready for a long road trip. Overall, the body and paint has survived the years well. Cosmetically, there is some patina, cracks and chips in the finish and the chrome bumpers are scuffed and slightly pitted. Interior condition wise, there is some minor bench seat upholstery damage, but nothing that can’t be repaired. Purists will love the factory options seen on this car, which include the DeLuxe radio with electric clock, vanity mirror, turn signals and very practical factory compass mounted above the driver. This car also features factory accessories and options like the emergency brake flasher, cadet exterior visor, chrome vent shades, correct wheel discs and fender panels. The glass appears genuine to the period and in good to excellent condition. It’s not a show car just yet, but it is well on its way to becoming an absolute gorgeous example of the marque. Given the amount the restoration work already completed, it won’t take much to drive it to the winner’s circle. Currently, it is a driver’s classic that is dependable and safe. Its beauty and rich history are simply icing on the cake. As an added bonus, the factory original Features Folio, Facts Book and Colors and Upholstery Guide used by the dealerships in 1952 as well as a parts list book and shop manual are included. About Factory Correct Cars offered by BlueChip Motorcars BlueChip Motorcars periodically offers classic cars that may be listed as Factory Correct, or Numbers Matching. Because there are many opinions about the term(s) used to describe these types of listings, allow us to explain how BlueChip Motorcars comes to that assessment. As you may know, depending on the source, the term “matching numbers, or factory correct,” may mean many things to many people. Purists might define it as a car with every possible window crank, dash knob or even every nut and bolt is original to the car from the time it left the production line. Although some classic cars do exist in that rare condition, most do not. The majority of classic cars on the market were at some point in their ownership, restored or repaired with NOS parts (new old stock) or licensed reproduction parts. Whenever the information is available to us about the use of these parts, BlueChip Motorcars will gladly pass it along to the potential buyer. BlueChip Motorcars uses the term Factory Correct or Numbers Matching only to distinguish a vehicle where the engine casting code corresponds with the VIN and Cowl Tag code. If these codes tell the same story about the car in question, BlueChip Motorcars then considers it to be a Factory Correct or Numbers Matching vehicle. However, unless otherwise stated, the transmission, rear end, and transmission may or may not be original to the car. BlueChip Motorcars welcomes all potential buyers to verify all the information with a qualified expert. We would be happy to email you all the numbers that are obtainable on any vehicle where the term Factory Correct or Matching Numbers is used.

Check out this beautiful 50s land yacht! She was completely restored in 2008. She was then stored in a climate controlled warehouse in Chicago until I bought her in 2012. I had the transmission shift valves and internal plumbing changed out last year, along with a new headliner. I also installed new front drums and brakes, along with rear brake cylinders and shoes. The only other things I have done to the car was stainless steel exhaust through the rear bumpers where the back up lights used to be, along with some chrome bullets on the front grill. I installed new Fat white radials and Radir 5 spoke wheels and also the lake pipes. All of this is easily changed back to stock if desired. I have only put 2000 miles on her since she has been mine. This model also has the 4 speed overdrive Hydromatic transmission along with power everything, including windows and seat. Being the 50s and the horsepower wars, Cadillac had come out with their 390 c.i. motor and not to be beat out, Olds came out with this 394 c.i. monster that has a tree pulling 435 lbs. of torque! This car also came with a limited edition stainless steel transister radio docked inside the glove box. This car flies down the road with ease and boy does she get the looks! Please give me a call so we can chat about this car. you can reach me at 9 five 1, 5 nine 1, 0 five five 6. I reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time as this car is for sale locally. I can help with shipping connections and I can store the car for up to 3 months, I require a 500.00 non refundable deposit with the balance due within 7 days. The title and car will not be released until funds have cleared. Nada lists this car at 24860 for average retail 45100 for high retail. Where do you think it falls?

Oldsmobile History for 1961 Cars GM lines in 1961, for the most part, exemplified the new, cleaner, lower, longer, wider look that was just coming into fashion. Simple, twin, round combination tail/stop/directional lights enhanced the rocketlike styling as did the tapered rear fender styling. The flamboyant fins of the fifties were all but gone from GM’s lineup, except Cadillac which would hold onto them for just a few more years. The very first Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight appeared for model year 1941. The series name would continue to signify the top-of-the-line, flagship model for the next fifty-eight years, the last issues being built for the 1999 model year. Super 88s may have been ‘super’ but the Ninety-Eight was always the creme de la creme of the Oldsmobile fleet. Typically riding a longer wheelbase with an appropriately greater overall length, the Ninety-Eight had a more powerful engine than the base level Eighty-Eight and as one might expect, a host of appearance and convenience features that were optional, at extra cost, on Eighty-Eight and Super 88 models. The privileged few (roughly one in six full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 were Ninety-Eight models) paid at least $4,072 for the opportunity– an additional $1,000.00 or thirty-three percent up-charge for the prestige of Ninety-Eight ownership. That was quite a hefty premium considering that the base price of a base model Eight-Eight was only $2,956.00 at the time. All full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 shared the same 6.46 liter (that’s 394 cubic inches) cast iron, V-8 engine 325 horsepower Rocket V-8 one of a continuing series of ‘Rocket V-8s’ designed by Charles Kettering, father of the ‘modern day, high compression V-8 engine. His designs included a number of interesting features including overhead valves, hydraulic lifters, oversquare bore-stroke ratio, forged crank with counterweights, aluminum pistons, full-floating wrist-pins, and a dual plane intake manifold. The 1961 engine was badged the ‘Skyrocket’ V-8. Consumers of top-of-the-line models, like the Olds Ninety-Eight, expected creature comfort, performance and convenience amenities, typically optional at extra cost on lesser models, to be included as standard equipment on their ‘highline’ models. Offered in five body styles including three 4-door models, a 2-door convertible and the coupe shown above... the ‘Classic’ Ninety-Eight for Sixty-One, didn’t let them down. Interiors were upholstered in a choice of luxurious fabrics, vinyl and/or sumptuous leathers. In addition to a multitude of features listed as standard fare on the base model Eighty-Eight and step-up Super Eighty-Eight models, the Ninety Eight included windshield washer; electric clock; Jetaway Hydra-Matic transmission; power steering and power brakes.... Popular upscale options included the Super Deluxe Signal Seeking AM radio ($124.00); power antenna ($23.00); power windows ($106.00) Other incredibly mundane options included a heater and defroster; back up lamps ($9.00); courtesy lamps ($5.00) and anti-spin differential for $45.00. During the 1961 model run, Oldsmobiles were produced in one of SEVEN American cities, Michigan (the home of Oldsmobile); Kansas City, Missouri; Atlanta, Georgia; Linden, New Jersey; Los Angeles, California; Arlington, Texas and Wilmington, Delaware. Sadly, after a century plus seven years, the final Oldsmobile, a 2004 Alero GLS four door sedan, rolled off the assembly line of the Lansing, Michigan plant, just after 9:00 AM on April 29, 2004.
