The car is in excellent shape as is, and requires no maintenance in its current condition. With 493 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, Car and Driver Magazine call this "the most potent Benz ever offered in North America". They go on to boast that it is also "the quickest factory Benz we've ever tested: 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds, 0 to 100 in 10.9, the quarter mile in thirteen seconds flat at 110mph". This vehicle has been used as a primary alternative to a daily driver. Generally, it was only driven in good weather. It has been garaged its whole life and cared for as one can expect. Dash pad is cracked and does have an aftermarket dash cap that looks good. All gauges work with no service lights on. The original equipment replacement soft top is new with a clear rear window. The factory hard top is in excellent condition with rear window defroster. and dash are all in good condition. There are no unusual smells or odors in this vehicle. There are no sign of repairs or damage to the body, frame or suspension. Spare wheel, tire and jack are in good condition. Trunk and trunk carpet are all very good condition. The original paint is in fantastic condition. I purchased a high quality touch up kit but then decided to leave it as is. I feel that it gives character/charm/patina to the car. I will include this in the sale.3) AC blows cool, but not ice cold. The heater works wonderfully. This car has never been in an accident (still with original data plate stamped on the radiator support), has always been kept indoors, always maintained and driven sparingly. The lines and gaps on the car are perfect. Doors open and shut like a bank vault, as do the hood and trunk deck. The car is truly a pleasure to drive locally or on the open road where it knows no limits The car comes with all of her authentic books/manuals, complete tool kit, service records documenting every time the vehicle was serviced, hard/soft top tool X 2 in the original pouch. The trunk follows form; exceptionally clean, original trunk mats with no cracking, original spare with jack present. The soft top is original as well and is in perfect shape. Absolutely no leaks, no tattering, no tears. The release mechanism for removing the hard/soft top is in perfect working order with not sticking or problems unlatching the rear pin The car is truly a time capsule, all original paint (gold) still has a brilliant sheen without an inch of rust on or under the car. The interior is in immaculate original condition with no tears in the seats which still have great support, no absolutely no cracks in the dash, perfect floor carpets with the heal pad appearing as if it has never been touched. Every option functions from the climate control (heat/AC), both power windows open and close without hesitation, VDO clock does not miss a second, and even vacuum door locks all work when turning the key as if the car just came off the show room. All of the gauges are clear with no condensation, odometer rolls without a hitch. All windows are original with no crack's or chip's. The chrome has a mirror shine all throughout, and the rubber has not cracking. V8 engine that Mercedes created which changed the driving experience forever. I have gone over this beauty and I have seen a few small scratches that is it!!!!! This SL is a clean and accident free example that benefits from good maintenance. Astral Silver over black leather is a very attractive combo, and this car presents very nicely inside and out. Within the last 4000 miles the car received a new timing chain, new spark plugs, and valve cover gaskets. It has also had a full A/C service with conversion to R134a. There are many 107-series SLs on the market, but this one is distinguished by good colors, matching factory hardtop, and major maintenance. It is reliable and ready to drive. The paint finish remains very nice following one high-quality repaint in its original Astral Silver. The black soft top is in very good condition with a clear plastic window. The original polished ‘Bundt” style alloy wheels were an optional feature in '78 and wear good Bridgestone tires. The interior looks extremely clean and nicely detailed. A cover protects the original dash pad which shows only tiny cracks around the defrost vents. Wood remains in good condition with slight cracks around the power window switches. The original radio was removed and a Clarion CD/radio in it’s place. These cars have risen in value dramatically in the marketplace recently...so the time to get yours is now.
