1980 Mercedes 300SD with receipts, receipts, receipts showing extensive care and maintenance unparalleled. In the photos is the evidence of the thousands and thousands you DO NOT have to spend to make this car useable. Maintenance is key in the long life these cars are known for and this car is the exception to the norm. The norm being unmaintained, misused and abused by negligent owners who bought a diesel with the hopes they would never need to even change the oil. Add to that the fact that old cars are just that, old cars. When you buy an old car there will be problems every single time. No matter how low the mileage or how old the lady was that drove it to church. The best car you can buy is a PROPERLY maintained car, above all, and that does not mean just regular oil changes with whatever oil was cheapest. Thanks to the meticulous attention to maintenance and repairs this car is just about as good as it gets. This car is strong competition for a brand new car in terms of reliability and in fact I would take this car around the world tomorrow if time allowed. A stunning color combination of Magnolia Brown over Palomino interior. Added were the chromed Bundt alloy wheels which have brake dust shields installed behind them. There is a new Kenwood Bluetooth cd/usb/radio with 2 auxiliary jacks (one in the glovebox and one on the face) for a USB stick, iPod or similar to be connected. The Antenna is original and has been restored to full functionality including the height adjustment. The original fader in the center console retains it's functionality and the speakers have all been upgraded to the highest quality Polk units available. The car retains it's vintage charm and wonderfully clacky diesel engine while taking a modern approach to the creature comforts. The dash does have some cracking and the drivers door panel has one crack in it as well. The speedometer reads fast meaning when the speedometer reads 50 you are doing 42. I believe at one time the car had larger tires fitted, maybe 215 75 14s and the speedometer was calibrated to them at that time. The tires are currently the original size, hence the discrepancy. And the last thing I can think of is that the Newer aluminum climate control servo has a bimetallic valve that holds back the vacuum to the interior fan too long. It's purpose is to make sure the car is up to temperature before allowing the fan to run but it takes until a couple minutes after the car has reached temp to allow the fan to run. This can easily be bypassed by plugging the two vacuum lines together or a new valve ordered, but I left it hooked up as intended and intended to get around to it. Aside from the cracks on the dash and the crack on the drivers door panel the rest of the interior looks excellent. The seats are firm and without broken springs, though MB Tex - they require no maintenance, only cleaning, and wear better under any circumstance than leather. The wood shines and the chrome is exceptional. The engine strums to life after a short glow and flip of the key. The brakes are recent replacements as well as all the fluids. There is no slop in the driveline, the transmission has been fine tuned in regards to shift timing and allowing the turbo to spool while shifting sharply though not aggressively. All of the mechanicals have been ironed out and this car is ready to drive across the country, Alaska or the southermost tip of South America. The vacuum locks operate correctly and a few vacuum diaphragms have been replaced. The cruise control system has been rebuilt and works perfectly. I just took a 600 mile round trip to near the Canadian border for camping and everything worked without issue and I used cruise control the whole way. EXTRA BONUS - There is a spare fuel tank fitted, was done at the dealer back in the day and it fills through the stock fuel filler. It extends the range to DOUBLE while not compromising too much trunk area. This is a rare accessory that was fitted when owners wanted to visit the diesel station as little as possible. I did the trip without filling up once and still had 1/3 a tank at the end. Access to the spare, jack and tools remains. While the spare has never touched the ground you never know when it might be needed. The front and rear window seals along with the rear window have been replaced due to age and the rear window had 1/2" of a frosty look at the base. The new seals and glass are 100% dealer parts. There are no aftermarket parts on this car aside from lightbulbs and windshield wiper blades. The windows were also tinted to keep the damaging UV rays off of the interior. A new dealer trunk seal was also fitted as well as tail light seals. The car is watertight in even the most torrential rainstorm. The steering box has been replaced as well as the tie rods, center link and drag compensator - then it was aligned. The steering is now 100% tight and 100% straight. There is much more in the service history I am not listing, but there is just not enough time in the day to write everything and you probably wouldn't want to read it anyway. Exceptional in every sense of the word. Avocado on Palomino leather 1980 300SD W116. A rare model, 1 of 6500 SDs, in the RAREST color combination offered in a condition unrivalled. Here on offer is the cleanest and most original Diesel Mercedes I have ever seen in person or pictures. A Nevada car most of it's life with only 23,463 DOCUMENTED original miles. Impeccable in every single way in every nook and cranny everywhere on the car. A show car in every sense of the word. Perfect is the word to describe this car... this car was always covered in a heated garage and NEVER driven in rain or snow. The chrome fender lips, California chrome Bundts, and water seperator are all 100% period correct options as are the Michelin white walls which were all fitted at the dealer before the original owner received the car. Nothing has been changed on this car since 1980 except for the fluids. Even the tires are original. Further proving this cars provenance. The car drives like a brand new W116. The steering is 100% tight with 0 (zero) play. The brakes are firm and evenly bring the car to a stop with no pulling or pulsating. The tires are still balanced out and cause no vibrations at any speed. The A/C is ice cold and has been converted to R134A at the dealer at no small expense. All the windows, vacuum locks, climate controls and even the cruise control work perfectly and without flaw. And the engine starts right up with LESS than (one) full revolution of the engine. A simple and quick flick of the key and this car purrs to life. Shifts are smooth and definite with no signs of any issue, as it should be. The chrome is perfect and the anodized trim shines like a mirror. This car looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. 1970 Mercedes-Benz 220D Sedan, For sale an immaculate example of a W115 chassis. This vehicle comes with complete service history from day one as well as substantial documentation from the restoration. This vehicle is turn key meaning, get in it and drive without worry. Completely serviced and it runs like a Swiss watch. A California car it's whole life has found it's way to Minnesota where it has not seen so much as rain. The restoration was based on a clean, low mileage, and most importantly RUST FREE car. The clutch was also replaced with a new Sachs unit (The original clutch manufacturer) and the shift bushings were also all replaced. That was done no more than 2,000 miles ago and clutch contact happens at the very bottom of pedal travel and produces noise/chatter/vibration free function. Following that the seats were all removed, stripped of their horse hair padding and new pads were installed giving the seats a like new feel and look. Then the vehicle was completely stripped of all exterior cladding as well as the front and rear windows and stripped to bare metal and re-sprayed the original color including the door and trunk jambs. After that all seals from window to door seals were replaced with NOS OEM parts. There was and is no evidence of rust anywhere on the car, no cracks in the dash and no discoloring on the interior trim. The original Blaupunkd radio works perfectly and even has mechanical pre-sets that all work. The carpets are excellent with no staining or wear evident, though I have no documentation on the carpet I assume it was also replaced with original carpets. There is not a single nick, scratch, or dent anywhere on the bodywork. The European headlamps have no evidence of internal corrosion or chips in the glass and the rear lenses have no fading or spiderweb cracks as are common. In summary it drives like new and looks like new in all ways. There will be no disappointments and there is no better W115 available anywhere.
