2005 Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG. The SL55 AMG is the high performance version of the SL500. There is a world of difference between the two models... one of those differences is the hand-built supercharged 493 HP engine, which is almost 200 HP more than the SL500 and will amaze you with it's power and performance. A prime example of this is the Active Body Control System (ABC) which is a very good system when working properly but WILL fail. It's not a matter of IF, it's simply a matter of WHEN. Experienced MB mechanics will tell you that this system will usually fail between 60K miles and 100K miles, and/or between 6 to 12 years of age. However, on some occasions it can happen sooner or it could happen later. The costs to completely repair this system can very well run up to $10,000! One strut (not counting labor) can cost $1,300. Then there are other parts in that system that will need to be replace (the pump can cost $1,600 plus labor). Always ask if the system has been replaced. Often one strut, for example, will fail and it will be replaced but you can be sure the other three struts will soon fail. There are also other parts in this system that will need to be replaced and none are cheap. This car has recently had a complete replacement of that troublesome system and you can be assured you will not have to face any further repairs to it. Always check on this before buying a car of this type.
