FOR SALE BY OWNWER: 1966 MERCEDES BENZ 230SL I purchased this car 2 years ago. It was fully restored 20 years ago and then sat in a garage in Virginia. So I had a lot of good to work with. My wife loved the color and we bought it. But she regrets buying a manual transmission and wants me to find her an automatic. The engine and transmission had been rebuilt before & a many new parts were restored and preserved. I have an organized folder with all the parts purchased from the MB USA Irvine Classic Center and all the different repairs and shops it has gone thru. Different systems rebuilt and upgraded: 1- Braking System: Front calipers rebuilt, new shoes and pads installed front and back as well as two new rear brake cylinders. 2- Suspension: All steering arms, bushings, shocks and bearings replaced. 3- Tires: 4 new BF Goodridge white walls installed 4- Electrical: all wiring has been cleaned up and new bulbs inside and out have been replaced. 5- Differential: Rebuilt, with new original boot as well as 4 axel bearings replaced. 6- Water: Radiator was rebuilt into a 4 core high density with new thermostat and hoses. 7- Manual Shifter: All the bushings for the shifter have been replaced. 8- Both doors: latches were replaced and the entire car has working locks. 9- Convertible top is in great condition with the rear plastic window is shiny and clear. I spent around $25,000 in parts and did most of the work myself, but also had a few different Mercedes specialists help me restore this car. This car has some rust issues. I spent $2500 and repaired the front end rust that made it safe and in the future: This car will need a paint job and the rest of the rust dealt with. This is a car for someone who wants to enjoy a turn key reliable convertible and in a few years when the value exceeds $100K, the only thing it will need is a nice paint job. I welcome vehicle inspections and please feel free to call me with any questions. Thank you, Max - 310-272-9566
