2003 Mazda MAZDASPEED Protege It was only in 2003 that Mazda produced the Protégé Mazdaspeed model and this vehicle is, we are sure, the most outstanding example of this fine automobile. The owner was a true enthusiast who purchased the vehicle in stock condition and addressed the few concerns that other Mazdaspeed owners commented on to make this car even better. The automobile was never raced, or driven hard for that matter, but the results of a few changes made this car far superior to the stock Mazdaspeed models. The mechanical expertise shown by this aficionado is well demonstrated with this project. While the stock Mazdaspeed produced 170 horsepower at 6,000 RPMs with 160 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,500 RPMs, the enthusiast knew that a larger intercooler and a less restricted exhaust would increase these numbers and he was proven to be correct. Although the improved specs are not known, it is obvious from driving this vehicle that a tremendous improvement is noted over the stock Mazdaspeed. The Mazdaspeed Protégé came with many features unique to this model over the base Protégé models: A 5-speed transmission was standard and this vehicle benefits from a newly added performance clutch. The exhaust piping was increased to 2.5 inches resulting in a much less restricted flow. The system uses a MagnaFlow muffler for increased power. The standard intercooler was changed to a much larger front mounted Corksport model along with a Corksport cold air intake. The stock intake manifold was replaced with a ported manifold for better performance. Although this set-up negatively affects cold start-ups, it adds plenty of power when the engine is warm. A Split Second AFC (air fuel controller) was installed. ABS braking is standard on this vehicle and the existing pads are in excellent condition. The Mazdaspeed models came with 4 wheel independent suspension and this was improved upon by the addition of TEIN lowering springs. The Racing Hart alloy wheels are in excellent condition and hold a set of Fuzion Sport UHP tires with very little mileage on them. All power equipment works exactly as designed and the air-conditioner blows ice-cold air. The standard limited slip differential on the Mazdaspeeds proved to be of a weak design but this vehicle will not have that problem due to the enthusiast’s improvement. The current demand for the Mazda MAZDASPEED Protégé is very high but the availability of excellent, not “beat-up” models is very scarce. The time has come to sell my first love that I have been in a love and hate relationship for the past 5 years. This car has been my pride and joy since the first time it was officially mine. I have picked up another hobby of motorcycle racing and the car just sits more than anything so i decided it was time to let her go so someone else could enjoy driving it as much as I did. The car used to be my daily driver throughout high school until I bought a beater truck to keep miles down. This is not a stock car anymore since i threw a rod back in 2012. The car has been babied but has also been used as a sports car should. I'm not talking bout hitting the rev limiter at people but instead of competing in several autocross events. It has been garage kept since the time I owned it. This is one of the cleanest Mazdaspeed Proteges you will see in the Midwest! The Spicy orange is one of the rarest colors to find considering there was less than 600 of that color ever produced (this is # 464 of 600). It has been waxed regularly to help keep the shine of the paint. the interior is an easy 9/10 with the exterior with a 9/10. There are a couple small dents from lovely people of parking lots, but are not super noticeable. The car has a clean car fax as well as a clear title to go along with it. The car was also hit in the front several years ago but did not cause any frame damage or suspension. All it needed was a fender and a new front bumper! As mentioned earlier it does have a newer engine in it that was built by Jesse at JessePrather MotorSports, the premier Mazda builder in the Midwest. The body has a 118k miles on it but the newly rebuild engine has only 6k miles on it since the rebuild in the fall of 2012.. I have all the paperwork that goes along with showing what all was exactly done to it. This car runs and drives like a dream, you won't be dissapointed. PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS BEFORE CONTACTING ME! 86,900 miles. Orange, has a gold flake in it. Not sure if it's stock or repainted. I don't know much about this car. It was repoed a couple of years ago. The guy it got repoed from was in the middle working on it and it had many missing parts. So, I bought it hoping to sell it back to the previous owner free and clear. But when I found him he was BROKE! So I ended up buying all of the parts from him. A friend of mine put it mostly back together and it's running good it seems. It surges sometimes at idle, but I'm sure it's something simple that needs to be adjusted. It was setup for racing. Looks like it has tons of aftermarket parts. Power steering and a/c have been removed. Racing harnesses, many painted engine parts, aftermarket wheels & tires, HID lights, power windows & locks etc. The interior is in very good condition. No rips or tears, no stains. Looks about the best it could in my opinion. Has unichip and modules that we did not hook back up. Pillar gauges etc, also not hooked up. $5,200 NO LOW BALLERS.
