Thanks to a recent surge in popularity fueled by pop culture, cars like this 1967 Continental have become the hottest property on four wheels. And thanks to a striking color combination, this one is sure to stand out, especially with its wonderful "suicide door" design. Following the chrome-fueled bender that was the 1950s, the all-new Continental was a vision of understatement and restraint. The shape was clean-cut, chiseled, and immaculately manicured and it has influenced cars for decades since. This lovely convertible was restored a few years ago, which is a good thing because resurrecting one of these is an expensive proposition. Fortunately, it seems that this big ragtop has lived a good life and needed no major surgery to whip it back into shape, because the final results are fantastic. The smooth flanks remain straight and all four doors fit like they should. It was covered in original code T Red paint, so it's bright and attention-grabbing, making it the ideal choice for a warm summer day with friends. There's still enough chrome to remind us this was a VERY expensive car when it was new, and the bumpers, stainless trim along the fender tops, and the bold CONTINENTAL block letters on the hood. This is a very imposing car. The black leather interior is remarkable, both in color and condition. And yes, that's the correct code 7A setup as delivered by the factory. The hides are in excellent condition with just the right amount of patina to make them inviting and stepping on board is always an event. Everything was standard on this big cruisers, including power windows and locks, A/C, and a neatly integrated AM/FM/cassette stereo with CD changer and door-mounted speakers, as well as a power bench seat for the front. All four doors open and close easily, and the rear doors latch without excessive slamming, which is more proof that this car has always been solid. With the power top mechanism, trunk access is through a key on the side of the car, which powers the deck lid up so it can be loaded, or the entire top can be powered down from outside the car, a very cool feature! Speaking of the top, it's a correct black vinyl with glass rear window, and it works correctly, eliminating one of the most expensive pieces to restore on these cars. Lincoln's big 462 cubic inch V8 (not to be confused with the 460) provides effortless power. The engine bay is tidy and clean, with all the stock equipment in place, so there are no worries about its mechanical fitness. Actually, these cars were virtually bulletproof mechanically, and it starts easily, idles smoothly, and with the 3-speed automatic transmission, makes for a fantastic highway cruiser. The suspension soaks up bumps without rattling the body, and thanks to that long wheelbase, the ride is impossibly smooth. Power brakes and steering are the only way a car like this is even possible, and the fresh dual exhaust system has a muscular hum befitting such a machine. 235/75/15 whitewall radials were fitted to the original wheels with full wheel covers to finish the sophisticated look. When I say these cars are red hot, I mean it, and if you're even considering this one, I urge you to call today, because they just don't last long, especially the good ones like this. Given that the cost of restoring one of these is astronomical and parts are unobtainium, the custom route has saved a car that otherwise might not have survived. The fact that it's also beautiful is merely icing on the cake. The Mark II is generally regarded as one of the finest designs of the 1950s, but that's not to say that it didn't lend itself to a few well-chosen modifications. The most notable change is the chopped roof, which gives it a sleeker look but doesn't remove the "pagoda" styling that makes these cars unique. Then you have the usual tricks of shaved trim, frenched headlights, and a custom grille, all of which work rather well on the already trim Mark II bodywork. Things like the kick-up in the quarter panels, the vents on the rear fenders (originally designed to feed the trunk-mounted A/C unit), and the Continental's signature tire hump on the trunk all remain intact. The taillights appear to be from a Packard Carribbean, the hood has a few stylized louvers stamped into its surface, and color-matched sections under the bumpers make it look very low. The purple paint has that custom car look that belongs on an Auto-Rama show stage and with just over 5100 miles since it was completed, everything remains in first-class condition. There's really nothing left of the original interior, which has been replaced by a custom setup that uses late-model power bucket seats, a fabricated center console, and OEM levels of fit and finish to create a car that is as comfortable as it is attractive. The vinyl and cloth upholstery has an OEM vibe to it and they did try to replicate the Mark II's instrument panel, which did stand up on top in its own little pod as it does on this car. Brushed aluminum dashboard surfaces add a high-tech look, as do the digital instruments, and all the secondary controls are neatly arrayed on the center stack. There's a powerful A/C system with vents neatly integrated into the dash, a custom steering wheel, and an AM/FM/CD stereo that sounds great in the custom Continental's hushed interior. A few original pieces such as the trick door handles and lower door trim remain, adding a custom look that only the OEMs could create. And there's still a massive trunk that's beautifully upholstered and very functional. The original 430 cubic inch V8 has been supplanted by a 460 cubic inch big block that delivers a lot more power with fewer hassles. Using as many OEM components as possible, it's reliable and strong, and it's been dressed to show off with lots of chrome and color-matched details. Edelbrock supplied the intake manifold and carburetor, as well as the valve covers, while an aluminum firewall and matching radiator act as shiny book ends on the burly V8. A serpentine belt drive system from a late-model Ford makes it reliable and it's been upgraded with a C6 3-speed automatic transmission so it prowls the streets effortlessly. The front suspension uses tubular control arms and custom coil springs for that in the weeds look, and there are disc brakes up front for vastly improved stopping power. The rear suspension is leaf springs and air shocks, so the ride can be fine-tuned and those chrome steelies with custom centers are a very 1950s look. 225/75/15 wide whitewall radials finish the custom look and ride great. You'll never see another one like this and the modifications more than live up to the legacy of the gorgeous Mark II. This 1948 Continental coupe is an elegant personal car that's had an easy life, with a frame-on restoration in the 1980s and a history of being a cherished heirloom. The flowing lines, penned by Bob Gregorie in the late 1930s, turned out to be one of the finest shapes to come out of Dearborn. Edsel Ford can probably get the credit for inventing the personal luxury coupe when he had a custom Continental made for himself in 1938, and it was such a hit that they put it into immediate production the next year. Even in 1948, the look was dynamic and fresh and this burgundy coupe has the right look. It was repainted way back in the '80s, but after three decades of being babied, it still looks wonderful. Is it perfect? No. But it does have a wonderful patina and a soft glow to the paint that is impossible to replicate in the spray booth; it needs to be earned, and in that regard, this car excels. Fit and finish are quite good, and it's doubly-critical that the doors fit right due to the pushbutton door latches, which spring open with just a touch. Of course, the famous rear-mounted spare tire is there, along with fender skirts, which set a styling trend that lasted a decade or more. Lots of chrome and stainless accents dress up the Continental, but it's worth noting how restrained its use truly is, letting the shape mostly speak for itself. The beautiful two-tone cloth and leather interior is a bespoke place to enjoy motoring. Luxurious yet sporting, like a high-class hotel in the mountains, it's the epitome of 1940s luxury. It was likely restored at the same time as the bodywork, and as you can see, it's holding up rather well with only light stretching on the driver's front seat. Lovely gauges with ornate faces and metallic finishes highlight the fact that the Continental was all about style. The big steering wheel looks and feels substantial while the center stack holds all the secondary controls, including the AM radio. The back seat is roomy enough for three, but ideally meant for two, and legroom is considerable. There's also a good-sized trunk, hindered by a high lift-over but nicely finished in tan carpet with burgundy piping. Yes, there are twelve cylinders under the hood. Supremely smooth, the flathead V12 obviously owes a lot to the famous Ford flathead V8. With a single 2-barrel carburetor, it won't win any drag races, but thanks to overdrive and a torque curve as flat as Kansas, it's a wonderful cruiser that will loaf along at modern highway speeds without getting tired. It's been fitted with an alternator so the electrical system is fairly robust. The transmission shifts easily with the "fingertip control" of the column-mounted shifter and the 4-wheel hydraulic drum brakes are more than adequate for the car's performance. The chassis appears to be almost entirely original and well-maintained, once again affirming our belief that original cars just feel different, and we mean that in the best possible way. Steel wheels with hubcaps and trim rings are fitted with correct L78-15 wide whites for a period-perfect look. A CCCA Full Classic, this elegant coupe is a very affordable way into a very high-end part of the hobby and you'll never get tired of the gasps when people see 12 cylinders living under the hood. We can land a vehicle to any port worldwide handling container traffic. We export cars regularly and are familiar with export requirements. You, or your agent, are responsible for Custom clearing the vehicle and registration in your own country.
