Selling my 1981 CJ7. Runs and drives, passes TN emissions test, certificate provided good through March 2016. This Jeep is in pretty rough shape, it's probably best to assume that nothing works on it unless I've listed it here as being replaced. 4WD is unknown, won't shift into 4WD but the linkage is so sloppy that I have no idea what the problem might be. My wife and I have had lots of fun driving this thing around town but we've got a new baby and it's time for the old one to move on.. The Good: 5 year old Tigertop and soft doors, only one snap missing. Mostly watertight.Decent, slightly dry 31" BFGs all around on 15x8 alloy rimsNewish radiatorActually drives pretty well. Can probably do 60mph. Maybe. Downhill. Starts easily, good battery and starterConverted to a Motorcraft 2150 carb with an ehrmannmp kitIgnition replaced with a GM-style HEI coil-in-cap setupGood SR4 transmission, shifts well and smoothlyI've been told it has the more desirable Dana rear end rather than the AMC, dunno how to tellReplaced windshield frame, glass, wipers, and wiper linkage, needs rewiring to work rightLeaks only a very little oil from the rear main seal. Lots of hoses and gaskets replaced to achieve this.Many brake parts replaced including calipers and hoses, master cyl. Stops good for manual brakes.Has a wonderful "Authentic Patina". Hipsters and arty-farty types love this jeep. The Bad: Again, has a wonderful "Authentic Patina". Hipsters and arty-farty types love this jeep.Basically nothing else works. The wiring harness is hacked to bits but I got everything patched enough to drive it legally -- that means only headlights, brake lights, and turn signals, cheap mechanical temp gauge, oil pressure, and volts. 4WD probably busted, unknown what the issue is Motor has some valvetrain noise once it's hot. I run 20w50 and Lucas. For what it's worth it's made the same noises for five years of weekly (sometimes daily) driving and not died. I kept waiting to put a new motor in it but the old motor never quit, so whatever. Lots and lots of body issues. Frame has been welded up with plates by the previous owner, including one of the spring shackles in the rear. Floor pans are somewhere between hosed and tolerable. Not Flintstone floors at least. I spent about a week and $300 to replace all the wiper stuff including the linkage and windshield frame and then they worked for about a week. It's probably just (yet another) wiring issue but I just decided to drive my 'real car' in the rain instead. I'm starting the bidding on this well below any other driveable CJ I've seen in a long time. It's a cheap Jeep and might be fun to work on, especially if you have a welder and can deal with its issues. Enjoy.

Jeep : CJ 1983 jeep scrambler stunning restoration

Up for your consideration is a 1983 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler that I have restored. This restoration started as a bone dry southern Texas Jeep that was purchased from Collins Brothers Jeep to be the best possible starting point for a restoration. Every panel of sheet metal is original AMC made in the America metal. Even the windshield frame, bulk head and fenders. The body did NOT require welded in panels and the bed was not pitted or have huge dents and waves like most. Also the frame is not pitted, welded or skimmed over. It's super clean now and always was. The Scrambler was taken down to bare metal by sandblasting and primered, base coated and 7 coats of clear applied. Even the bottom of the tub was done in this fashion. It was a $10k paint job and it looks it. Areas were others would have cut corners like bed liner and undercoating this jeep was painted like the factory would have but with much better coverage and paint quality. The frame was blasted, primered and painted with three coats of satin black as well as the axles and other small bits. The drive train is numbers matching and has been completely rebuilt by reputable shops. I added the Mopar injection soon after finishing due to how much better it makes the Jeep run and how much more power it has. I used as many of the best original parts made by AMC that I could for the restoration. The aftermarket parts are just not any good. I spent years collecting the parts for this build. I only have 185 miles on the Scrambler since completing. It runs and drives fantastic. I have had it up to 75mph on the highway and it rides like cream puff compared to my CJ7's.
