The most prominent feature-the long, projecting hood-is modeled with a distinctive 'power bulge' that runs down the hood's center to accommodate the powerful engine. Louvered air-intake panels penetrate the otherwise smooth surface. The hood curves down to a grille-less nose that sucks in air to cool the engine. The gently swelling fenders terminate in glass cowl headlights that are seamlessly encapsulated into the body. The view of the car's contours is as compelling to the driver as to the passerby." These are the words that the Museum of Modern Art in New York City uses to describe one of its larger acquisitions. The sculpture is described as having a "steel body: 47" x 641/2" x 14? 71/2"." It is a Jaguar E-Type Roadster that has been credited to Sir William Lyons, Malcolm Sayer, and William M. Heynes. No one can deny that their magnum opus, this car, has not sunk as indelibly as the most famous of paintings into the world's consciousness. The E-Type is, quite simply, one of the most famous and instantly recognizable mechanical shapes ever created. The design of the car was birthed from the D-Type, a full-out racing car with sensuously curved aerodynamic styling that had achieved tremendous success in international competition. As it required a new, competitive production model, Jaguar's management set about developing the design into a car that was suitable for road use. The famous, feline curves were developed by Sayer, a trained aerodynamicist, using wind tunnel testing and aircraft principles. They were constructed around a lightweight monocoque that had a tubular sub-frame to carry the engine, front suspension and steering, and an independent rear axle. The E-Type debuted in Geneva in 1961, and it became a smashing success, because it offered so much for relatively little. It was no more expensive than most other sports cars, but it was more beautiful than the priciest offerings from other manufacturers, and it had 150-mph performance with outstanding road manners. While the design would evolve over its 13 years of production, it never ceased being as beautiful as when it was first created. The Roadster offered here is documented by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust as having been delivered new through Jaguar Cars, of New York, on September 6th, 1965! This later Series I model retains the desirable covered headlamps, which are appreciated by both MoMA's curators and Jaguar enthusiasts, and incorporates the desirable 4.2-liter engine, with its improved power and torque resulting in a perfect storm of beauty and brawn, which is mated to a four-speed transmission. The original, matching-numbers 4.2-liter engine (number 7E5305-9, mated to gearbox number EJ4410) have recently been serviced and reconditioned. This car has recently had a full show quality paint job, new weather stripping, new convertible top, new interior, new exhaust and much more. Few E-Types have ever been restored to this standard. This Black Beauty is not just another E-Type; it is a world-class Jaguar with attention to detail that is as striking as its very shape. 1966 Jaguar E-Type XKE Series 1 4.2 FHC Great Project, Great Opportunity. Uploaded more pictures. Solid, straight Southern California (pink slip somewhere) and Arizona car. About 30-40 hours left before the bonnet can be fitted. On Rotisserie. Good clean body with bonnet in PPG 271 Primer. $375 a gallon kit. Body's in High Build Yellow Squeegs Primer. Bonnet is complete except for the one fender. Both air scoops are in good condition. Thousands in new parts from SNG and new bonnet sheet metal parts(sugar scoops, bonnet strips, headlight housing, stereo mount etc.) from Monocoque. Chucks sheet metals great! Body's 75% +/- ready. Have a great body guy that can finish at $30 an hour a currently working 8-10 hours a weekend. Originally a green/green car. Black/Red or Black/Black was the plan. Many items powder coated and ready including front suspension, extra rear cage. $1,700 in triple plated chrome work. $2-3K+ in materials. Needs RH fender $600-$1,350(Saia Motor Freight lost it and currently in claims). Chuck at Monocoque had one or they come up on EBay every several months in the $400-$700 range. Carbs and manifold $2,500-$3,200 + linkage. (Please see 417laptoprepair listing for carbs) He knows whats correct and does incredible work. Seat backs $500 (See them here 2-3 times a year) Oil Pan Distributor Quarterlight for ones side Other misc. 417laptoprepair also has several low mile to total rebuild engines available If it's not listed as missing, needs to be bought new from one of the suppliers and bolted on. Look at the cars bringing lots of money and even the glass is replaced (Have the glass, just saying....). If your thinking about restoring every little piece to save money, or time, this isn't the right project for you. If your wanting to spend another 100 hours fitting the bonnet, rear end and the hundreds of hours putting the car together, this may be it. Tach and Speedo are at Mo-Ma in New Mexico. Rest of the gauges need to be sent to him. He was waiting on the gear ratio for the rear end. 4.2 Engine date should be correct date code from 1966 Mark X 4.2 (Jaguar pulled motors off the line for Mark X and E-Type). Its pretty easy to inspect, inventory and $30-60K+/- in upside potential. Vehicles has Clean Arizona Title. There's several autos that have sold in $30-41K range over the last couple months. The majority required hundreds of hours of disassemble and possibly tens of thousands in rust or body repair prior to be in in the same state this current vehicles in. Please inspect vehicle if you intend on purchasing. As Is,Where Is. Its worth this or more in parts. Value everyone's time, serious inquiries only please.
