These are the words that the Museum of Modern Art in New York City uses to describe one of its larger acquisitions. The sculpture is described as having a "steel body: 47" x 641/2" x 14? 71/2"." It is a Jaguar E-Type Roadster that has been credited to Sir William Lyons, Malcolm Sayer, and William M. Heynes. No one can deny that their magnum opus, this car, has not sunk as indelibly as the most famous of paintings into the world's consciousness. The E-Type is, quite simply, one of the most famous and instantly recognizable mechanical shapes ever created. The design of the car was birthed from the D-Type, a full-out racing car with sensuously curved aerodynamic styling that had achieved tremendous success in international competition. As it required a new, competitive production model, Jaguar's management set about developing the design into a car that was suitable for road use. The famous, feline curves were developed by Sayer, a trained aerodynamicist, using wind tunnel testing and aircraft principles. They were constructed around a lightweight monocoque that had a tubular sub-frame to carry the engine, front suspension and steering, and an independent rear axle. The E-Type debuted in Geneva in 1961, and it became a smashing success, because it offered so much for relatively little. It was no more expensive than most other sports cars, but it was more beautiful than the priciest offerings from other manufacturers, and it had 150-mph performance with outstanding road manners. While the design would evolve over its 13 years of production, it never ceased being as beautiful as when it was first created. The Roadster offered here is documented by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust as having been delivered new through Jaguar Cars, of New York, on September 6th, 1965! This later Series I model retains the desirable covered headlamps, which are appreciated by both MoMA's curators and Jaguar enthusiasts, and incorporates the desirable 4.2-liter engine, with its improved power and torque resulting in a perfect storm of beauty and brawn, which is mated to a four-speed transmission. The original, matching-numbers 4.2-liter engine (number 7E5305-9, mated to gearbox number EJ4410) have recently been serviced and reconditioned. This car has recently had a full show quality paint job, new weather stripping, new convertible top, new interior, new exhaust and much more. Few E-Types have ever been restored to this standard. Fresh out of a long term private CA collection, this E-Type Coupe is wearing an older restoration that has just recently had a refresh and looks absolutely gorgeous. The paint has a deep luster and has just been wet sanded, polished and buffed with shows almost no imperfections (small chip on the outer driver door edge, small rock chip next to the driver chrome headlight bezel, small stone chip on upper opening of the passenger side mouth and a small hairline scrape against the passenger side bonnet lip). Otherwise the paint job looks like it has been professionally stripped down to bare metal and repainted its original color. The body and paint work are beautiful were done to an extremely high standard. The trim and bright work looks beautiful and show incredibly well. All of the rubber seals and body gasket are new and from Jaguar. The wire wheels have been re-finished and are wrapped in brand new period white walls. The interior has been re-trimmed with correct matching Jaguar leather and looks beautiful. The center dash gauge surround looks to be original and the dash top has been re-trimmed. All of the carpets, headliner and trim have all been re-trimmed with correct Jaguar material. The engine has been rebuilt along with all of the suspension components, all of the electrical has been rebuilt/sorted, all of the steering components are new, many of the hoses, belts and seals are all new, the alternator has been rebuilt, the gas tank has been removed and cleaned, the radiator has been removed and re-cored, new cooling fans have been installed the clutch is newer, and the carbs have been rebuilt. The engine is a matching number’s engine and starts right up, idles beautifully and accelerates strongly. The engine does not smoke under start up or acceleration. A compression test has been performed and all 6 cylinders passed with flying colors. The gearbox is nice and tight and shifts into each gear smoothly. All of the electrical components are operating as designed including all of the exterior lights, turn signals (turn signal stalk is a little loose and sometimes has to be held to operate) reverse light, brake lights, headlights and side marker lights. All of the interior lights are operating including all of the dash lights, the fuel light, the headlight indicator and all of the gauges appear to be reading correctly. There is absolutely no rust anywhere on the car and the undercarriage is beautifully detailed and clean. No rust anywhere on the rockers or undercarriage or in the body. There are no signs of any prior accident damage or repair and the body and undercarriage are straight and clean all the way through. The original spare still wears its original tire, the original jack and original tool roll accompany the car along with an original owners handbook. This is an exceptionally clean well maintained matching numbers E-Type Fixed Head draped in a stunning color combination. Finished in its correct colors of British Racing Green over Biscuit this E-Type has been properly maintained and cared for its entire life. The paint work shows very well and has seen one repaint in its life. There is some minor checking on the cowl right underneath the windshield and some small stone chips on the front nose. The paint still retains a beautiful shine and deep luster with very few imperfections found in the actual paint. All of the bright work and trim are in excellent condition showing very light age but free from any damage or heavy pitting. Even the wire wheels show very nicely and are free from any damage or pitting. The interior is in outstanding condition showing very little wear on the seats or on the carpets. The dash is beautiful and the center console is damage free and all of the switchgear is in excellent condition. The convertible top is very nice with only a one inch hairline tear on the passenger side and finished in the correct material. The convertible boot is present with the car and fits well on the top and is free from any damage or wear. The 6 cylinder engine is a matching numbers engine and runs beautifully. All of the carbs have been rebuilt and all of the plugs and wires were just recently done along with all of the fluids. The engine starts right up and idles beautifully. The engine revs smoothly and shifts through all of the gears smoothly without any issues. The transmission is free from any issues or noises and shifts into all of the gears with ease. The clutch feels strong and does not slip and the gears do not grind. The brakes feel excellent and have just had a recent master cylinder put in. The steering is nice and tight and free from any play or vibrations. The tires have excellent tread on them and show no signs of cracking or age. The car ride smoothly and free from any shakes or vibrations. All of the electronics are working in the car including all of the dash lights, interior lights, headlights, side marker lights, brake lights, turn signals and reverse lights. There is no rust of any kind found on or under the car. The undercarriage is very nice and clean and does not show any signs of accident or damage history. The car comes with some service history from the previous owner and the original operating maintenance book. The original spare tire is found in the trunk and the original keys are present with the car. This is an excellent E-Type finished in traditional colors and matching numbers covering a believed 37,800 miles from new. The new sports car was so advanced and had performance that was unheard of for its time. Even Enzo Ferrari said “Perhaps one of the most beautiful cars in the world, too bad it doesn’t have a prancing horse on it”. The E-Type was capable of 150MPH and zero to 60MPH in less than 7 seconds. The E-Type continued on with three series, and three different engines. For model year 1971 Jaguar introduced the Series III with an all new 5.3 litre V-12 engine. The Series III became more refined and more GT like, the handling improved, brakes and suspension improved and the power was an endless supply of refined smoothness. Jaguar’s E-Type continued on to model year 1974 and many say has never been replaced since. It is possibly the quintessential sports car of all time and one of the most collected European sports cars. As the E-Type values continue to climb so does the desirability for one. 100% original survivor with 14,603 original miles on this 1973 Jaguar E-Type SIII V12 Roadster is finished in Silver Metallic over Black leather. Sold new to its the cars one and only owner on June 17, 1973 by Reynolds Buick, Jaguar INC in West Covina CA this E-Type has spent its life in Southern CA until the early 1990's when the first owner put the car away in storage. Recently pulled out of storage this well preserved low mileage E-Type has just undergone a recent mechanical refresh. Equiped with a 4-speed manual gearbox and factory A/C this gorgeous matching numbers V12 roadster is completely original top to bottom including the original Silver Metallic paint and the original Black leather interior and original Dunlop tires. A paint meter shows a completely consistent reading all the way around the body of the car. The paint does show signs of age all over but for original 42 year old paint, it has worn well and consistent. The chrome is all original and shows very well with very light pitting. All of the original rubber seals do show some signs of age especially the chrome bumper rubber seals. The original convertible top is still intact and shows very well except for both driver and passenger lower edges where the top is attached to the body of the car. There is a small tear on either side of the top. The original convertible boot is present and in excellent condition and still clips down the body of the car. The original leather interior shows very well, the leather is a little dry but has been conditioned and seems to be taking well to the treatment. There are no tears or heavy cracks in the leather (the driver and passenger headrest show wear and are dry with some small separations). The carpets are all original and show very well with minimal age. The dashboard is excellent and the center console is excellent with almost no age or signs of wear. All of the switchgear is in excellent condition with almost no wear. The car starts right up and runs beautifully. The engine does not smoke or hesitate under acceleration and idles on its own with ease. The carbs have just been rebuilt and are all perfectly in tune. The transmission is smooth and does not grind into any gears. The clutch feels solid and free from any slipping or issues. The steering and suspension all feel nice and tight and free from any noises or play. The brakes feel solid and free from any fade or noises. The tires are old and would need to be replaced but the chrome wires are in excellent condition. All of the electrical in the car appear to be operating as designed and all of the interior and exterior lights are functioning. Even the seat belt light and buzzer are operating as designed and once the seat belt is latched the buzzer goes out. The handbrake light is operating as designed once the hand brake is released. This Jaguar comes with its original owners handbook, service book, original window sticker, original radio books, registration by the first owner, and numerous other receipts and documents. The original spare tire and jack are present with the car along with the original boot and tool roll. The new sports car was so advanced and had performance that was unheard of for its time. Even Enzo Ferrari said “Perhaps one of the most beautiful cars in the world, too bad it doesn’t have a prancing horse on it”. The E-Type was capable of 150MPH and zero to 60MPH in less than 7 seconds. The E-Type continued on with three series, and three different engines. For model year 1971 Jaguar introduced the Series III with an all new 5.3 litre V-12 engine. The Series III became more refined and more GT like, the handling improved, brakes and suspension improved and the power was an endless supply of refined smoothness. Jaguar’s E-Type continued on to model year 1974 and many say has never been replaced since. It is possibly the quintessential sports car of all time and one of the most collected European sports cars. As the E-Type values continue to climb so does the desirability for one. This beautiful 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster completed production at the Browns Lane Coventry factory on May 24, 1972 and was then dispatched on June 15 1972 to British Leyland Motors INC of New York. According to the British Heritage Certificate, this 72 E-Type Roadster left the factory in Pale Primrose Yellow over Black leather interior and was matted to V12 engine numbered 7S6295SA which is still in the car today. The lovely Roadster has lived a well maintained life and has recently undergone a full bare metal respray a few years ago with no rust or filler found anywhere in the body. All body gaps are excellent and the whole car has a great fit. Other than a couple small stone chips in the front and one small hairline crack in the passenger door edge, the paint shows beautifully. The leather interior is in outstanding condition showing minimal wear and very light creasing. The carpets appear to be original and in excellent condition. The dash and center console are in excellent condition and do not show any damage or wear. The convertible vinyl top is in excellent condition and does not show any wear, fade or damage. The engine has been maintained since day one and starts right up. It idles smoothly and does not smoke on start up or acceleration. The engine has a beautiful deep note to it and once shifted into gear has a glorious growl to it under acceleration. The transmission shifts into gear without any issues and shifts through all of the gears without any hesitation. The suspension feels nice and tight and free from any noises and the steering is nice and tight free from any wondering or play. The brakes are solid and free from any fade or grinding. All of the electrical appear to be operating and functioning as designed including all of the exterior and interior lights, turn signals and brake lights, reverse lights, headlights and side marker lights. All of the dash lights and gauges are operating including the temp gauge and original radio. The fans kick on at the right time and the car runs and normal temps. Accompanying the sale of this Jaguar is the original convertible top boot, the knock off tool for the wire wheels, the spare and an original owner’s handbook. There is no rust to be found anywhere on the car and the undercarriage is clean and tidy. There are no signs of bondo or any damage repair on the car. I purchased this car in Payson, Arizona and I have driven 2,500 miles since, mostly to car shows around townMy E-Type, is a matching numbers example. Cosmetically it shows as a presentable car. Overall, a wet sanding and comprehensive buffing would do this car justice. There is small area in the hood where a repair of an indentation caused by a broken radiator fan, done many years ago is starting to show. The glass and rubber are in great condition. No rust of any kind to be found. The rockers are clean and straight, the rear valence still has spot welds and seamsThe rear IRS carrier was clean, rebuilt and preloaded in 2005 by western differential, new hub bearing, seals, new brake lines, axle shafts, u joints, new shocks, springs, bushing and mounts where also replaced at the same time. Four new Dayton wire wheels (stainless steel and tubeless), plus four new knock-offs and 2 new rear splined hubs where added in 2011. The original wheels are included. Tires have less than 2000 miles. The interior is acceptable as a driver, again, but not perfectly correct however, very nice and in no need of attention. All of the gauges are in proper working order and all of the lights, brakes, signals etc. are in working order as well. The black leather seats and the center console where redone in leather 3 years ago. They are perfect. The radio was deleted at the time. I have the original front place for the radio as well as the speaker grills. The carpets, sills, headliner, doors, and trunk space are all original and show nicely. Steering wheel replaced a few years ago. The engine is clean and runs very strong with great oil pressure. The entire braking system is new, as are many of the suspension components. All the chrome is in great condition it was redone 6 years ago. Rebuilt front end and new front shocks New gear reduction starter. (old starter is included) New XKs distributor with Electronic ignition (old distributor is included) When the new Retro Air A/C kit was installed 6 years ago the following was done to improve the systems cooling efficient in the desert: Dynamat insulation under all the carpets, New 85 amp alternator. (old one is included) New 4 rows core for the radiator was built Electrical fan was installed. The new sports car was so advanced and had performance that was unheard of for its time. Even Enzo Ferrari said “Perhaps one of the most beautiful cars in the world, too bad it doesn’t have a prancing horse on it”. The E-Type was capable of 150MPH and zero to 60MPH in less than 7 seconds. The E-Type continued on with three series, and three different engines. For model year 1971 Jaguar introduced the Series III with an all new 5.3 litre V-12 engine. The Series III became more refined and more GT like, the handling improved, brakes and suspension improved and the power was an endless supply of refined smoothness. Jaguar’s E-Type continued on to model year 1974 and many say has never been replaced since. It is possibly the quintessential sports car of all time and one of the most collected European sports cars. As the E-Type values continue to climb so does the desirability for one. European Motor Studio is very proud to offer this exceptional 2 owner 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster. This E-Type is finished in a gorgeous shade of Signal Red over Black Connolly leather interior. This E-Type has traveled a mere 33,330 miles from brand new and is documented back to 1977. This car left the Coventry Browns Lane factory in May of 1973 and was invoiced to North America. The car was sold new to its first on in the summer of 1973 and was then sold to its second and final owner of 1977. The car has been exceptionally well cared for seeing only a specialist for any of its needs. The car wears most of its original Signal Red paint (a few touch ups here and there on the paint) and still has an excellent shine. There are some small areas that are just starting to show very light checking (only noticeable up close). The body is in beautiful shape; there are no signs of body work or damage and absolutely no rust anywhere on the car. There is one small scrape in the paint underneath the front grille. The chrome looks to be completely original and shows beautifully with extremely minimal signs of age. The weather stripping on the bumpers are original and do show their age. The original wire wheels are exceptional and look almost new. The convertible top is brand new and fits perfectly on the car. The interior of the car is exceptional. The leather seats have been redone in correct leather and are near perfect, the carpets appear to be original and in excellent condition. The center console, dashboard and trim are all in excellent original condition showing almost no signs of wear. All of the gauges appear to be reading correctly (gas gauge is sometime sticky) including the headlight, choke, ignition and fuel light on the dashboard is all functioning. Even the clock and the radio are still functioning . The windshield wipers are working as designed, the blowers are working on the fan speeds and all of the dash and interior lights are working as designed. Turn signals, brake lights, side marker lights, headlights, interior lights, taillights and reverse lights are all working. This Jaguar starts right up with ease and once warmed up runs superb. The car idles without any issues and does not smoke upon start up or acceleration. It shifts smoothly through all of the gears and has an excellent responsive feel in the clutch. The engine pulls exceptionally strong through all of the RPM range and sounds fantastic through the quad tailpipes. The brakes have an excellent feel and do not show any signs of fade. The suspension feels nice and tight as does the steering. The car does have brand new tires and the brakes appear to be newer. This is an exceptional running and driving V12 E-Type that has been superbly well kept its entire life. The car comes with a very thick receipt binder dating back to 1977 authenticating the miles. The original owners manuals and pouch, warranty manual, radio book, passport to service book, a dealer brochure, wiring diagram and schematic, shop manual, complete original tool roll, knock off tool, original spare, and two sets of keys are all present with this exceptional E-Type.
