This 1968 car was a one year only production model and incorporated a lot of carry-over Series One features including the pretty taillights, earlier bonnet air opening, and attractive smaller bumper set. The 1.5 still carries the panache and silhouette outline of the earlier model's 2+2. This car was recently purchased from it's long term owner from 1991 who planned to restore it but could never find the time. The body on this car appears pretty decent and straight. There was an incident at some point in the past that required replacement of the original picture frame and the RH front subframe. The LH subframe is the original and reveals a kink in it, so it would be wise to replace this during the restoration. Nevertheless, The bonnet gapping appears fairly good and even. The bonnet underbelly/pan looks very straight and unhit. The doors close well. Wheelarchs are very decent. The boot/trunk floor appears pretty good. There is some rust-through in the front and to the rear of the driver's floor. The passenger floor board appears more solid. There is a typical rust spot around the battery box area. The interior trim of the car is pretty original as well as the glass, chrome, dashboard, and instruments and all appear to be in good condition. The windshield was replaced at one time. Work has commenced on restoring some interior items, but best to plan for a complete retrim. The previous owner stated that the car drove well in 1991 with a good engine and gearbox, before being put away for restoration. The engine currently turns by hand but no attempt has been made to start it. It appears this 4.2 unit has been sourced from a later Series 2 car. The exhaust system looks to be in good shape. Overall, a very decent 2+2 that appears very complete for straightforward restoration. With the rise in Series 1 prices, this Series 1.5 car is a good and economical alternative for an entry-level E-type owner.Please look at all pictures and call or email with any questions. The Red leather interior is a perfect color choice against the silver exterior. . Jaguar got the styling just right! . Pretty! Here it is in operation! . Very pretty indeed! . Very nice chromium plating up front! . Sharp! . Its a series 2 Jaguar, from the series built from 1968 to 1970, with 6 cylinder engine and open headlights. . Chrome wire wheels really make the car! and notice how nice these wheels are, the chrome is excellent. . Good California undercarriage, with very recent dual exhausts from front to back. we'll see more of that in the undercarriage photos. . Very nice red leather interior. . There's the engine number - 7R36008-9, which tells us it was a 9 to 1 compression ratio engine. This engine is still in the car. . 1R40980BW is the car number, and it tells us this is a Left Drive 2+2 coupe, with Borg Warner automatic transmission. there is also a vin tag on the driver's windshield post that matches. The title is correct and matches the car. The paperwork is clean and the car will export with no problem. . Here's the VIN tag on the left windshield pillar, which matches the data plate and the title. , . Title VIN matches the Car VIN. . . The front subframe must have been changed, this is from an earlier car. . Here's the original owner, from Beverly Hills, CA. . Original warranty / Service book . Original Owner's manual . It was recently purchased from the state of Ohio where it was stored indoors awaiting restoration work. It is a full matching numbers car and hugely original. It appears it has had only one thin repaint in it's original Sable Brown color. The body on this car is very straight with nice closing panels and good gaps. All of the chromework and glass is original, and in relatively decent condition. The body overall is solid with very good floors, but there are a few underside areas that need repair as pictured, mainly the jacking corners. They are contained only to that area, and should be a straightforward repair. There is some pictured surface rust, but the metal is solid. There are some areas that need attention on the outer body panels such as some bubbling on the door bottoms, the rear bottom of the trunk hatch area, the RH rear wheelarch, and some boot floor joints. The spare wheel well looks very good with a nice spare tire. The edges of door bottoms and hatch lid haven't fattened up yet from rust, making the repairs easy. The bonnet is in very nice condition overall and fits well. The car's original engine turns nicely by hand and may run well with a little bit of work. The oil looks normal and at the right level. I'm sure because of it's low mileage, it hasn't ran in a while. Turning this car into a driver would require a recommissioning of the brake and fuel systems. The intake system has been attached for visual/shipping purposes. The engine compartment is largely untouched and very original, and still has it's subframes painted in the original color, making an underhood detail a bit easier...The car's black interior is 100% original including carpets, seats, interior panels, etc. There has been a replacement vinyl piece sewn into the driver's rear squab. The main headliner material has been removed and needs replacement. The original dash top pad looks very decent. The condition overall shows age, but not too much wear, proving the car's mileage to be believable. Overall, this desirable 4-speed car is priced well for an entry level E-type. It is a hugely original and untouched example, and would benefit from some cosmetic and mechanical work, making it a totally usable and enjoyable road car. The car was enjoyed immensely up until 1987 when the husband became ill and passed away. This car then sat in a two-car garage for the next 29 years in Laguna Hills until being unearthed recently. The body on this car is extremely good, straight, solid, and totally rustfree. There is some unfortunate but repairable damage to the car's nose and under the LH rear bumper. The rest of the car looks fantastic. There is evidence of a single, thin repaint in the car's original color of Carmen Red, but the paintwork has an original feel to it, as it was done so long ago. Panel fit and gapping is exceptionally good, per factory specs. The car has acquired a few dings and scrapes over it's lifetime of use.. According to the selling widow, the car's engine was rebuilt in 1986 by a Jaguar specialist in the Newport Beach area to the lofty price of $7,500 back then. Currently, the car's engine turns nicely by hand, but no attempt has been made to start it. The car's braking and fuel system will need a full recommissioning to make this car roadworthy once again, but because of the car's originality, it should be fairly straightforward.The car's interior trim is just about totally original and in overall good condition for it's age, except for a headliner replacement. Panel fit and bonnet condition is excellent. The car is totally complete with matching numbers and the mileage appears to be very believable and correct. The interior trim has benefited from the front and rear seats being recovered at some point in vinyl, along with a replacement headliner. The rest of the trim appears largely original and existing items will most likely clean up well. The windshield was replaced at one time with a correct Triplex item and is in perfect condition. The car was fitted with factory AC, but some of those components have been removed under the hood and are not present. The correct and original engine turns very nicely by hand and minor work could yield an excellent running unit...The car includes a few boxes of removed under-bonnet items (pictured) that are included with the sale, along with the front bumper assembly and spare tire and rim. This is a Southern California 1962 Jaguar XKE roadster. Note a sampling of the vehicle registrations over the years in one of the photos. Mileage on the odometer shows just 22,995. A restored 1961 XKE roadster (in a funky brown color) just sold last week for $380,800.00 at the Keno Auction in New York. I purchased the car about 8 or so years ago with plan of making it a high performance XKE. At the time it was a good running Jaguar but I wanted a perfect car and so restoration work was begun at a local exotic car repair and restoration shop. However, the mechanic who was working on my car left and so for the last 8 years the car has (literally) been sitting on a hydraulic lift for all these years! (No exposure to moisture here!) Since I purchased the car the value of the XKE, particularly the super early cars like this one, has gone up dramatically. Such that the only logical thing to do is restore it back to OEM stock. I simply do not have the time at this point in my life to do the restoration so I am putting the car up for sale, this time with its matching number engine and the original four speed manual gearbox. Plus, my passion was for a high performance build not a stock build. But with the collectablity of these very early E-Types this car is better suited to a pure restoration. Included in the sale are thousands of dollars in new replacement parts, many of which be duplicative. E.g., the original bumpers are in good shape but i purchased another set anyway. Similarly, the door handles, etc. The wire wheels are new as well. The interior (seats, door panels, etc.) are good enough to probably use as is but if someone is restoring it they should be gone over as well. Jaguar built very few XKE roadsters in 1962. When this car was built there were only around 4,000 XKE roadsters produced globally for model years 1961 and 1962 combined. (That's an average of about 2,000 cars a year while Ferrari is producing more than 6,000 cars a year.) The engine is currently being gone through, including a valve job and upon delivery it should be ready to simply be dropped in the car. It's getting harder and harder to find these early XKEs unrestored and in solid condition like this Southern California car. This is a great winter project that will make the new happy owner a nice return on their investment. The car is sold As Is.
