My Scout’s Story: I originally purchased my Scout in 2003. I am not sure how many owners it had before me, but it was in nice shape and came from Utah. Since that time, I have undertaken many upgrades to make it more powerful, more reliable, and have better drivability and fuel economy. I am selling it because I don’t have the time to enjoy it the way I used to. This Scout is so much fun to drive and draws attention wherever it goes. The Drivetrain is out of a 1997 Dodge ¾ ton truck. It has a 12 valve Cummins 5.9 liter turbo diesel engine that starts right up and runs strong. I am not sure of the mileage as the gauge cluster in the truck it came out of did not work. It runs way stronger than any of the other Cummins 12 valves that I have driven, so I imagine that it has been rebuilt at some point, but I cannot prove that. It is mated to a NV4500 5 speed manual transmission. It shifts into 4 wheel drive flawlessly. The suspension is stock Dodge springs with Bilstein shocks all the way around. It has a Dana 60 front axle and a Dana 80 rear axle. The tires are 35” and are on Hummer H2 aluminum wheels. They have approximately 90% tread left on them. The Scout is very easy to drive and averages 22mpg mixed and gets 25mpg on the highway. The major part of the renovation was completed at the end of 2012. To facilitate the ease of making the Dodge drivetrain work with the Scout, the Scout Traveler body was put on to the Dodge frame. All of the work was done at a professional shop in the Orlando area. At the time of the renovation, there were some rust issues that I had addressed. In order to make sure those issues did not come back, the hood, windshield frame, and both doors were replaced with fiberglass components by Kentrol. To this day, they all look great, however, the doors should be adjusted, as they have always sagged a little. There is some minor rust starting to show on the drivers side front quarter panel at the bottom where it meets the front door, and a few minor spots under a few of the fenders that are pencil eraser sized. I have tried to show them in the included pictures. The floors and bed have all been covered with spray in bed liner and are solid with 3 exceptions that I have seen. There is a small spot on each of the foot wells that are each between one and two inches in size. The other area is where the bed meets the floor just behind the rear seat, and it is rusted across the bottom, but should be an easy fix from underneath. The body is accented with a padded rollbar with 3-point seatbelts installed on both front seats. It also has D&C Extreme 3/8” steel nerf bars that have been welded to the frame. The interior door panels have been professionally painted gloss black and match the dash pad. At the time of the major renovation, the original gauge cluster was removed and has been replaced with a brushed aluminum dash with a full compliment of Autometer analog gauges. These gauges are in place, but have not yet been hooked up to the engine. There is a gauge cluster out of a Dodge that has been wired in and sits on the console just under the A/C vents. The stock wiring harness has been removed and replaced with a Painless Wiring Harness. The headlights have been upgraded to a HID H4 system and light up the road and everything else in front of you. The A/C is super cold and will keep you cool in even the hottest weather. At this time, there is no radio, but there is a place for one in the Tuffy locking center console. Also, to make wiring the radio easier, wiring has been put in place under the spray in bed liner. The seats are grey cloth and are out of a Ford, I think. They are in ok condition, but if I were going to keep my Scout for any length of time, I would get around to replacing them with black vinyl or leather seats to match the rest of the interior. The seats are mounted on custom seat bases that have storage compartments in them. To view a short video of me starting and driving the Scout, just click the link below. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7tfwdieh1dt3im2/20150601_174745.mp4?dl=0 Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to see additional pictures, I have a bunch in a Dropbox account that I can send you a link to. For sale in our Fort Lauderdale showroom is a cool and custom 1971 Scout 800 B. This is a full frame off, five year build, restoration. Every single piece of metal on this Scout has been removed, sand blasted, primer coated and painted. A POR 15 Hard Nose two-part dark blue paint was used to paint the: Frame, arms for the 3 link on the front, shock tubes, and the underbelly. While it was stripped down, all the bolts were replaced with grade 8 bolts and body mounts replaced as well. The exterior body has been professionally painted with PPG Global custom light aqua blue with a touch of green. With multiple coats of clear, this color scheme is glossy and screams \"Take me to the beach!\" The removable top has a nice glossy white finish, to make the rest of the car pop! All the rubber seals (doors, windows, body etc) on the Scout have been replaced. The owner spared at no expense, restoring this car with custom and rare parts. Per example, the side mirrors are a very rare, hard to find set of Yankee \"bullet\" mirrors. The aluminum grill and head light bezels were buffed and polished to a nice finish, which makes passer-bys double take and gawk. The bed has been reinforced with stronger, thicker metal, assuring this ride is just as tough as it is beautiful. New Scout emblems were used for the finishing touches. The front bumper was replaced with a beautiful, chrome Smittybuilt dual tube front bumper. The rear bumper was replaced with a modern chrome plated bumper. With all of this show, one could only hope it has an equal amount of GO! Rest assured, that it does! To power this International Scout for sale is a custom Chevy block 383 stroker with less than 400 miles. This motor has been professionally honed and bored .030 over with forged 4340 internals, 6 inch full stroke rods, Comp Cam extreme 4x4 camshaft, AFR heads, Ultra pro Magnum rocker arms, custom Holley carburetor with Edelbrock Air Gap, MSD ignition with 6AL2 digital and MSD cables, and high output mechanical fuel pump. To keep the motor oil flowing is a Moroso racing oil pump with a Moroso Deep low profile off road racing oil pan. The pulley system is a March Performance polished aluminum pulley kit. This small block Chevy would be equally as happy behind any Chevy muscle car, as it would this big and bad 71\' Scout for sale! Backed behind this peppy engine, is a TH 350 automatic transmission, which was completely rebuilt and shifts through a K%26N slap shifter. With the Trans Go shift kit, large volume K and N aluminum transmission oil pan, and a exterior oil cooler to keep fluids cool, this transmission was built to last! The NP 205 transfer case was completely rebuilt to be bullet-proof, with new seal and components. Beefed up out-puts connecting custom drive shaft. To add some grip and stop to all of this go, New Warn locking Hubs were added, as well as new performance rotors on the front along with Hawk pads. New Calipers, new brake booster, and new break lines were added, to give this Scout, the complete once-over. The vehicle handles the beefy Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ tires with ease, via a Power Steering Pump off of the Scout II that was sent out, rebuilt and fabricated. A chrome aftermarket steering column and Borgenson joints route around the headers. The steering wheel, made out of walnut wood, is connected to the column and has a nostalgic feel to it. It has a full 3 link suspension on the front, professionally done, with all joints, chromoly steel arms, brackets, etc, from Ballastic Fabrication. It has King Coil Shocks (coil overs) that have 14 inches of travel. The rear is a spring over Pro Comp 3 inch lift kit with Bilstein shocks. The tires are brand new Mickey Thompson MTZ 35 inch 12.5\'s . If you wanted bigger tires on this beast you could easily do it, but any taller and you may have to bring out the step ladder!. The rims are polished aluminum off road wheels. This scout has a 19 gallon aluminum gas tank centered and tucked up under the rear truck bed towards the back of the truck. It is really nice to have for those long distance excursions. With the drivetrain aside, all that\'s left is the interior. This 1971 International Scout for sale was totally rewired, with an 18-circuit painless wiring kit. They run power to an awesome set of Arctic white Auto meter gauges that were placed in a custom dash. They look just right, complimenting the new white vinyl bucket seats and bench! It has a nice and modern Alpine head unit with remote, which still needs to be installed. This Scout for is equipped with various options, including an aftermarket air conditioner and heating system made by NAP air conditioning products, which is tucked under the dash on the passenger side below the glove box. Other options, include: A/C, AM/FM radio, CD, manual convertible top, power brakes, power steering, tilt wheel, seat belts, vinyl interior, and aluminum/alloy wheels wrapped in performance radial tires. Now\'s your chance to own one rare International! How rare you ask? The last of the 800 series was the 800 B, available for less than eight months, from August 1970 until March 1971, before it was replaced with the Scout II. 1968 IH Scout ProjectI started this project several years ago and just have too many irons in the fire to be able to finish it. I am going to use bullet points here to list everything that has currently been done to the vehicle:New ShocksNew Poly Gas Tank and All New Fuel LinesComplete New Wiring Harness and New Blinker Light ControlConverted Brake System to Power Brakes and All New Lines (Booster and Master Cylinder from CJ5 Jeep)Converted Single Brl Oil Bath System to New 2 Brl Air System (Needs New Linkage Installed)New Custom Rear Bumper with HitchCustom Tow Bar on Custom Front BumperCustom Roll BarsRust Removed from Undercarriage and New Metal Welded InEngine Compartment Sprayed BlackRear Axle Swap to 8.8 Ford-91 ExplorerFront Axle Swapped for D-30-95 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4Steering Linkage Swapped for 90 Jeep Cherokee I did these last few things for several reasons: One it needed all new ball joints, tie rod ends, linkage, steering etc. on the front end and those parts are impossible to find or impossible to afford if you do! Secondly, with the oil bath 1 bl conversion and the new rear end, we increased the top end speed by 10-15 mph to around 60-65 while still keeping her geared low enough in first to make her great in the mud or for pulling my boats in and out of a dirt ramp on the lake we fish at. I have a notebook with all exact years and models that all of the replacement parts came from the power brake conversion to the underneath so that parts are readily available at your local parts store and on the cheap! Literally, I took a car that sat on almost nothing usable and turned it into something that while cool and different than anything else on the road, can be serviced locally or parts had easily and inexpensively and did so professionally and without compromising the integrity and original use of the vehicle! All of these conversions were $3400 alone! There are a ton of little things I am forgetting! New wires, plugs, chrome air filter assembly, tires (One will need replaced, I think it's a bead leak so stopping at a tire shop may get you home if you are using the towbar but I'd bring a standard 15" spare), bulbs, seal around front windshield, gas pedal, etc. She does smoke some but as I was toying with putting a straight six in it, I did not do the top end job that would probably resolve that and when I ran it last year, as I let it run with some Seafoam in it, it nearly resolved itself. The man I bought it from says it sat at a hunting camp unused for years so who knows. It runs smooth but to put it on the road you will have to manufacture linkage for the new carb and put some things back on...grill, headlights, etc. Also the tires are brand new...less than 100 miles but I let one sit and develop a flat spot so it makes the ride feel rough. It's a common tire and easily matched to the others! Everything it was missing I think I've ordered as far as the tailgate, panels that cover the door panels, rear view mirror, etc. I also have a half cab top that needs to be completely restored as well. I haven't touched it. Below is a link to what I wanted to do with this and what the half cab looks like on. THIS IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CONDITION OF THIS VEHICLE! (Yes...someone will ask!)http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/5a/fd/00/5afd009666c5933513a5dd704673e5b3.jpgJust the carburetor, gas tank and wiring harness make up nearly $1200 of what I am asking so it won't come down any. In fact, I am starting the price at half of what I estimate I have into it and I do have notebook with all receipts, VIN numbers of the parts cars used, models and years, before and after pictures of rust that was cut and new metal welded in, etc. I haven't started it in about a year but if you work the carb linkage yourself it runs great...I actually rigged up cable ties a year ago just to run it up and down the road to see how the new carb was going to function.Okay, lotsa questions about the body. I am not a professional body person and while I hired out the major projects like power brakes, fuel lines, electrical, etc. I have done the body work myself mostly to teach myself. There is nothing more simple to work on for an early project than something that is nearly perfectly square with little curvature! So...first! That is NOT rust along the door bottoms. It had rained the day I took the pictures with my phone and is just the darkened, wet primer that had not dried. The ONLY places that had serious rust through were on the underside (leaf springs, under panels, etc.) I paid a professional welder to cut and replace anything that needed replaced. The only aesthetic places that had true rust through are 1.) the tailgate which I have a new one to replace that old one 2.) the bed which is completely straight. My welder suggested a single 4x8 sheet of matt black diamond plate be welded in and the entire bed cut out. It is straight forward repair or you can simply patch weld the spots up by the driver area. They are rusted through because the previous owner made a metal gas tank and set it in the bed rather than spend the $700 I did for a true replacement tank and new fuel lines. When I removed that tank it was packed with moldy, mildew wet leaves, pine needles, etc. All that being said, there is some filler used on some of the straight panels. I think I did a pretty good job on my body work but I wanted to put most of my money into really doing the hard stuff right and then an inexpensive paint job for a few years until I could pay for a really good paint job. This really was only meant for pulling my boats or trailing my 49 Farmall around. So the exterior was going to come down the road...the filler was used in small dents that were too hard to pull out. I am NOT a fan of screwing holes into the metal with dent pullers and I wasn't strong enough to pound them out from the underside with blocks. This is some thick-ass metal! As I said in answering a question earlier, I had one buckled fender and had to use a comealong and a live oak to pull it straight!Okay! More interest, more questions: I am going to try and add some more before/after body work pictures because I need to make sure you understand, anything that could not EASILY and safely be filled with minimal bondo was already cut out, removed and replaced with good heavy metal. Most of this work was done where it does not show such as under the seat, the inside fender wheels, etc. So I'll do my best.In addition, I have added the years of the parts cars used above to nail done for you what was improved but the essence is that this thing steers like a 90's model Jeep and not a 68 IH now and when you need to replace something on the steering column, front end, pitman arms, tierods, etc. you will replacing common parts not scouring the earth for high priced used IH parts that will need some rebuilding themselves! Lastly, I have had several of you doubt the model and year so I have provided the VIN for you...which I really don't like doing online. It is a Scout 800 built in Feb of 68. Part of the confusion is a used the "Sell One Like It" link on a 69 800B and forgot to erase the "B" in my title. Make no mistake. This is a 68 800 before the A's or B's were introduced and for some the most sought after. Some of you thought it was an A or a B or a 67 or a 69. Here is the link straight from Vinwiz confirming from the plant, its designation:http://www.vinwiz.com/1966-1971ihc_light.php?vin=781905G293140I am in Riverview, Fl, just south of Brandon. I have only a Bill of Sale to offer but will guarantee title as that is all Florida requires on an antique vehicle.
