If it's affordable fun you're looking for, you'll be hard-pressed to do better than this 1982 GMC stepside pickup that brings great looks and eminent practicality with it. The cool icy blue paint job definitely makes this pickup stand out in a crowd, and it has a wonderful old school look thanks to the stepside bed and its associated flared fenders. That bed makes it look older than it is, but details like the billet grille and square headlights bring it right back up to date. There's a good amount of time invested in making it look this good, and while the work was done a while ago, it still looks flashy and gets a lot of attention out on the road. Finding a GMC version of the stepside pickup is none too easy, and it still wears its correct GMC tailgate and side badges. The chrome bumpers are in excellent shape, with a wrap-around rear unit that gives it a nicely finished look that's still highly functional with a receiver hitch underneath. The bed was refinished with new oak planks and stainless rub strips, giving it an old-fashioned look that really dresses it up in a big way. The interior matches the exterior's lightly revised looks with a combination of original gear and aftermarket upgrades that enhance the driving experience. A new seat cover on the front bench has a two-tone look that looks racy and you'll find fresh black carpets on the floor. In fact, almost all the soft parts are new, including the dash pad, door panels, and even the visors overhead. The dashboard is pretty original, surrounding a complete set of factory gauges and it's loaded with options, like A/C and cruise control, making this GMC is a pleasure to drive under just about any circumstances, although you'll save it for special occasions. The original AM/FM radio is still in the dash, and for those days where it's comfortable enough for windows-down cruising, the sliding rear window will make things very comfortable inside. The reason full-sized pickups remain popular after all these years is that they offer what is essentially the muscle car formula: big V8 up front, rear wheel drive, and rugged mechanicals that will easily take the abuse of a few full-throttle runs. This GMC packs a 350 cubic inch V8 topped by an Edelbrock carburetor and Holley intake manifold, but nothing radical so it's an easy cruiser. Beyond a chrome air cleaner and some bright yellow plug wires, it isn't really detailed for show, but that's not really the point here. Instead, it's as reliable as a cinder block, has great torque to make it entertaining to drive, and with a 700R4 4-speed automatic, it's even reasonably thrifty on the highway. The dual exhaust sounds awesome, another link to the muscle car era, and the suspension sits just right, not too low and not towering over the pavement. Of course, those flashy Torque Thrust-style wheels certainly help, especially when wrapped in fat Sumitomo performance radials. Fun, affordable, and handsome, pickups like this are a great way to get into the car hobby without a major investment, and it might even make you forget muscle cars. Someone clearly spent a great deal of effort making this 1979 GMC Sierra 4x4 long bed look this good, from the cool Hugger Orange paint to the inviting interior. There's absolutely no way you could duplicate this truck for the asking price, and good luck finding a regular cab long bed in such great condition. Most of these trucks ended up working for a living, but judging from the looks of this one, it was never a tradesman's work vehicle or someone's beater. Instead, it's a very clean, solid truck with a lot of nice upgrades that make it ideal for local shows and cruise nights, and maybe a few jaunts into the dirt. The paint is most definitely attention getting, and has been well-applied over some pretty straight bodywork. With a professional cut and buff, this one could be show-stopping, but even as it sits, it's going to attract admirers wherever it goes. All the original stainless trim is in place and looks great, as does the front bumper and grille. It's got that big 4x4 stance, but there are no major modifications, not even a winch on the front bumper or tackle hooks underneath, although it does sport an industrial-strength rear bumper that looks sturdy enough to pull a freighter out of the water. And if you need a work truck, well, maybe this isn't the right choice because the bed has been beautifully repainted along with the rest of the truck. Inside, a red vinyl interior has been stitched to cover up the truck's working class bones, giving it an upscale feel that still appears OEM. The original bench seat has been re-covered recently, and includes a set of matching door panels that are in great shape. The dash is full of bright, crisp gauges that are all fully functional, and this GMC carries a longer-than-usual list of options including A/C, power windows and locks, and a tilt wheel. Entertainment has been given an upgrade, thanks to an AM/FM/cassette stereo which fits neatly in the factory slot. The owner reports that the carpets are original, and if that's the case, it speaks volumes about how well-maintained this truck really is. Under the hood, you'll find a 350 cubic inch V8 that looks quite stock in every possible way. The factory air cleaner feeds the stock carb, so it starts and runs like it should and will be a reliable partner for decades to come. You'll also notice that the engine bay is quite clean with no signs of off-roading or abuse and there's plenty of recent work. Behind the engine is a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and 2-speed transfer case that are part of an exceptionally clean undercarriage. The recent exhaust features a new stock-style catalytic converter and a Flowmaster muffler, so it's legal but still has a bit of a V8 rumble. The cab and bed were lifted off the frame for the build, so the hardware in in great condition and thanks to a 3-inch lift and new shocks, those giant 35x12.50R15 Falken off-road radials fit quite neatly. Look at the details throughout this truck, and then take another look at the price tag. As we said, this is a lot of truck for the money, and you would be hard-pressed to find another one this clean. With great features like A/C and that inviting interior, it's a truck you can comfortably drive just about anywhere, and the timeless shape will always be popular. Vehicle Information VIN: TCL448A508314 Stock: 2067-ATL Mileage: 313 Color: Yellow Trans: Automatic Engine: MPG: Drivetrain: Description Work or play, this 1978 GMC High Sierra pickup is up for it. Its got that great look says its strong enough for the job site, but its so clean and well-restored that it almost seems a shame to get it dirty. But regardless of what you do with it, youre going to be pleased with the way it drives. Following a frame-off restoration about seven years ago and was treated to a very high quality paint job that looks quite authentic in light yellow. Now it may seem strange to give a truck a frame-off restoration like this, but you cant argue with the results, giving this GMC a whole new lease on life. The angular sheetmetal has always looked great on these trucks, and even with light-colored paint on it, the result is one handsome hauler. Although the short beds are currently popular, in my personal opinion the long bed/regular cab has the best proportions, and this truck looks substantial going down the road or among other show vehicles. Plus, with an 8-foot bed you can move just about anything and youll wonder how the guys with their short bed trucks ever make things work. Youre in luck, too, because theres a spray-in bedliner and a mat, just to be sure, so no worries about actually putting it to work. Theres also enough chrome to make this truck look upscale, which was always GMCs mission; the bumpers (with optional guards), the grille, and the stainless wheel arch moldings all look great. The cloth interior makes a big difference in terms of the trucks luxurious feel. Most of its lesser siblings have sticky vinyl, but the new cloth seat cover makes the cab a very comfortable place to spend some time. The headliner was replaced just last year and the door panels are in excellent condition and you can see how thorough the paint job was when you look at the doors and lower dash. The factory instrument cluster surrounded by a brushed metal-look applique makes it look fresher than its age would suggest. There are also options like factory A/C, a tilt column, and an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo with speakers in the kick panels, so its really a pleasure to drive. There are also tinted windows with sliding rear glass, so its easy to stay comfortable inside, and all that glass plus the rubber holding it is new. The 350 cubic inch V8 that powers it was rebuilt last year and is a strong runner today. The engine bay is nicely maintained but pretty stock, aside from the chrome air cleaner and a few new parts like the brake master cylinder. The block was bored .060 over and theres a 4-barrel carburetor up top and long-tube headers underneath, so theres plenty of horsepower to make it ready to haul, well, anything. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission feeds a beefy 12-bolt rear end with highway-friendly 3.08 gears inside. The custom exhaust system is a 2-into-1 set up with a Flowmaster muffler, so it sounds a little racy without being too aggressive. Factory dual tanks give it bladder-bursting range on the highway and cool Torque Thrust wheels with tall 265/70/15 Uniroyal radials make for a great stance. This truck is either an awesome starter collectable or a really affordable work truck, and all you need to do is come down and take it for a drive. Call now! A little more upscale than its Chevy siblings, this one includes a strong-running small block V8, a decent list of comfort and convenience options, and a nicely preserved overall presentation that will help its status as a future collectable. It's quite possible that this truck wears its original paint, and aside from some very minor factory-style orange peel in the finish, it looks fantastic. Trucks rarely led easy lives and in 1978 not a lot of guys were buying vehicles like this as collectors' items, so finding one that wasn't worked hard is none too easy. Go over it carefully and there's no evidence that it was ever wrecked or rusty and the squared-off look of these trucks will remain popular for decades to come. The regular cab/short bed combination is the one to own if you want to drive and enjoy your pickup, making for a more maneuverable package that feels just about the right size pulling into the Home Depot parking lot. That six-foot bed is in remarkably good condition overall and uses chrome bed rails to help secure cargo. Other dress-up pieces include the chrome window visors, a beautiful set of factory bumpers, a grille that looks like new, and a cool spotlight on the driver's side. A matching burgundy interior is a nice combination of working-class functionality and luxury, offering a vinyl seat cover that wears like iron and still looks great, reasonably plush carpets that make the GMC feel quieter and more luxurious inside, and brushed aluminum trim to brighten things up a bit. Options include ice cold factory A/C and the original AM/FM radio, plus a full array of factory gauges. Heavy-duty rubber floor mats are probably a good idea in a truck that can still earn its keep around the house and with a column shifter, there's plenty of room for three-across seating in a pinch. The dash pad is remarkably well-preserved and this is one of those rare vehicles where you can climb in and instantly feel like you've been driving it all your life. Power comes from America's favorite V8, a 350 cubic inch crate small block. The engine bay is quite clean and offers a few dress-up parts like the chrome air cleaner lid and a set of finned valve covers that always look good. An aluminum intake with a good old Rochester 4-barrel carburetor give it snappy throttle response and plenty of torque for doing trucky things and with a true dual exhaust system and glasspack-style mufflers, it sounds like a V8 should sound. The truck's originality is highlighted by the original jack and tire iron still living under the hood along with R12 refrigerant in the A/C system. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission provides reliability and an unobtrusive demeanor and the original rear end still hangs on factory leaf springs, so it doesn't mind doing a little hauling now and then. Factory Rally wheels look especially good on these trucks, with this pickup carrying big 275/60/15 Cooper truck radials. We never seem to be able to keep these in stock, and trucks like this have all the hallmarks of future collectables: good memories, fun to drive, and easy to service, and this is a great choice.
