With stout small block power, a competent suspension, and a surprisingly comfortable interior, it's over-the-top in every measurable way, making this the T-bucket to own if you're seeking the spotlight. Visibility is the T-bucket's claim to fame, and with that in mind this vintage 'bucket got a glowing paint job that lives up to the standards set by similar machines from the '70s and you'd have to be legally blind to miss it, even at night. There's not a lot of surface area, but the bodywork that remains on the minimalist T is nicely prepped and finished and now showing some nice patina that's just right. The overall look suggests that just because it was originally designed to be inexpensive doesn't mean you have to build it on the cheap. Every square inch of visible bodywork has been painted, upholstered, or polished, including the mini bed out back, which wears its own diamond-tufted tonneau cover. The tall Model T windshield remains, but has been raked back slightly for a new look on an old favorite, and you'll also note that the glass itself is tinted, there's a hand-operated windshield wiper, and even a set of wind wings that keep it pleasant inside. The interior fits the template for the traditional T-Bucket, with a diamond-tufted bench seat that wraps around the entire passenger compartment. The upright steering wheel is all part of the experience, and it uses a traditional Model T brass center with a modern wood rim that's a bit fatter than stock. A full array of vintage Stewart-Warner gauges have been fitted into a nicely finished oak panel, again offering just the right patina for a car straight out of the past. And you can forget Mexican blankets serving as low-buck upholstery, because this one is very nicely finished in black vinyl and a full set of carpets that make it feel a bit more civilized. There is no top, no windows, and no heat, but with that thumping small block V8, I don't think you'll miss it. Yes, that's a 350 Chevy topped by dual quads and a blower; talk about overkill! The supercharger is a 6-71 and it's topped by a pair of 650 CFM Edelbrocks under a scoop, so it looks like you'd expect it to. And since it's right out there in the wind for everyone to see, all the components were either polished or plated so they sparkle in the sunlight. It's a 4-bolt main block with a steel crank and forged pistons, plus a set of Crane roller rockers, so it was definitely built for combat. And for some reason they stuck a Boyce moto-meter atop the faux radiator shell, although it's completely blocked by the massive engine; the T-bucket summed up in a single detail. A 4-speed manual transmission feeds power to a narrowed Ford 9-inch rear end, all of which was painted to match the body. And speaking of oversized, those are genuine wire wheels which wear a traditional big-n-little set of tires, including Mickey Thompson Indy profile rear tires for the perfect old school look. There's nothing more radical than the T-bucket, and this one shows a lot of care and thought in the build, and is a fast, fun little car as a result. This custom build has the most laid back sense of style (literally) and a thumpin' V8, which makes it the most interesting hot rod you can pick up for under $20K. This custom T-bucket looks unique because it's set waaaaaay back from the front wheels. The chrome headlights are like lone dual pods hovering above the front axle. Then there's plenty of airspace before the radiator shows up. The chassis might not be any longer than other T-Buckets you've seen, but the effect is a stretched and streamlined appearance that looks like a Top Fuel Dragster for the streets. Plus, the deep burgundy paint and full metal wheels give this one a touch of class. As you look over the pictures, you might be wondering why this one looks so modern and fresh...well, that's because it was only built back in 2009. Nothing goes better with burgundy than a tan interior, especially since everyone can see inside this cool custom build. This attention to detail is also why the removable hardtop matches the interior tan perfectly. When you step inside, you're greeted to a bench that's vastly more comfortable than what's found in many other hot rods. In fact, the whole interior feels downright plush. But this is a speed machine, not a complete coddler. So you get a no-nonsense three-spoke steering wheel, and beyond that is a full set of clear AutoMeter gauges. The package is completed with a tall gearshift that's always within reach. If you're going to be spending all your time behind the wheel peering into the exposed engine bay, then it better be something as wild as this one. The 305 cubic-inch V8 is pure intimidation in its matte black appearance. The engine was built right less than 500 miles ago with tidy wiring and a Holley carburetor. Some might think it's sacrilegious to advertise so much Chevrolet on the valve covers and air cleaner in a Ford-style hot rod, but when it's as bulletproof as the small-block, we think this one can be as bold as it wants. And speaking of bold, you have to love seeing the long tube headers and side pipes. They make a thunderous roar that will make people stand at attention long before they see you. Getting down the road is easy with a coilover rear suspension and extra wide BF Goodrich rear tires griping the pavement. Plus, you have the ease of GM's trusty TH350 three-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel disc brakes. T-buckets are about a recipe, and this one has been baked to perfection with a few extra award-worthy ingredients. * 1923 FORD T-BUCKET *"Classic Street-Rod"The Model T's were hot-rodded and customized from the 1920's and on, but the T-Bucket was specifically created and named by Norm Grabowski in the 1950's. The exposure from appearing on the TV show "77 Sunset Strip" gave the T-Bucket an incredible amount of attention. From then, numerous copies have been built. A genuine T-Bucket has the two-seater body of a Model T Roadster (with or without the turtle deck or small pickup box), this "bucket" shaped body is where the car gets its name. They generally feature an enormous engine for the size and weight of the car, generally a V8, along with tough drivetrains to handle the power and large rear tires to apply that power to the road. The front wheels are often much narrower than the rear wheels, and are often motorcycle wheels. Today, T-Buckets are wildly known for their appearance and are becoming more and more desirable as we reach its Century old anniversary. This T-Bucket in particular was built for both street and show use. With the 327 Small Black Chevy motor, you can crank it up with the turn of a key on any given day and hop in for a cruise. From the sound of the headers, to the FLAMES that can blow out of the exhaust, to the overall classic street-rod look, be prepared to grab some attention. It comes with some tasteful modifications that not only make this a fun classic, but enough to set you apart from any others that you might see at shows. It's sure to please and excite anyone who loves American muscle. The first one is unofficially credited to Norm Grabowski, the Kooky Kar, which showed up on "77 Sunset Strip." In the decades since, it has been faithfully reproduced in endless variations, and it's still one of the coolest ways to go fast in all of hot rodding. This T-bucket's body isn't your average modern kit, however, having been built by Dan Brusseu, founder of the Bay Area Roadster back in the 1960s. The look is familiar, but the proportions are just as outrageous today as they were fifty years ago. It's based on a shortened Model T pickup truck, but there's not much hauling capacity left, but who cares? This car ain't about being practical, not with the hand-made wooden bed out back. And in a typical T-bucket fashion, there are unique details everywhere you look, some totally trick and some totally traditional. The dark green paint is highlighted by subtle gold pinstripes and the raked-back windshield is both iconic and a bit less formal than the usual vertical units. Finish quality is amazing for its age and the details are totally authentic because it was built by a guy who was there when it was all happening. Check out the built-in windshield wipers, the custom wind wings, color-matched headlight buckets, all of which give it a very unified look. T-buckets are all about nostalgia, and what could be more nostalgic than a period-built T? A T-bucket doesn't offer much interior, but that which you'll find on this one is beautifully finished. Black leatherette buckets in a traditional button-tufted pattern forms the majority of the interior, wrapping around the driver and passenger and creating a very comfortable environment, given the car's upright stance. A pretty wood steering wheel sits atop the steering column but has a bit more rake to it so it's easier to drive than most T-buckets, and vintage Stewart-Warner gauges in a custom engine-turned panel keep an eye on the hot small block. And this might be the only T-bucket we've ever seen with a center console, which looks like it was borrowed from a period luxury car, maybe a Pontiac. You'll find the entertainment system (the one not tied to your right foot, anyway) involves an AM radio and an under-dash tape player that are all about old-school. A T-bucket is nothing without a big engine, and the sturdy, simple 350 cubic inch Chevy V definitely fits the bill. It's got all kinds of old-school parts, including the vintage Holley high-rise intake and genuine Corvette valve covers, and with a newer Edelbrock carb, those big rear tires are more of a necessity than mere style. It's all detailed but has that used and loved look, with tons of chrome and just the right amount of patina, from the chrome air cleaner to the T-bucket headers that have just enough blue to look like they work for a living. Underneath, the front suspension is a custom tubular axle with transverse leaf spring and hairpins, while out back there's a 9-inch Ford hanging on a setup from a VW bus. Too cool! And you just have to admire the workmanship on the full bell pans, which are painted to match the bodywork and fit beautifully. And there's just nothing like the dramatic big-n-little combination on a T-bucket, with this one wearing vintage American Racing aluminum wheels and vintage Kelly Super Charger tires for that '60s look. There are plenty of T-buckets out there, but this one is heavily documented and built by one of the cornerstones of the rodding movement. If pedigree matters, this is the T-bucket to own. Maybe it's a wave of nostalgia for retro-rods or maybe it's because they're just plain cool, but I strongly suspect that this 1924 T-bucket won't sit in the showroom for very long. It's hard to date a T-bucket simply because the design is retro and hasn't changed all that much over the decades (if you changed it, it wouldn't be a T-bucket, now would it?). This one has a timeless old-school look, and I'm sure many of you guys of a certain age probably remember seeing cars just like this at the Auto-O-Rama each year. This one gets a lot of things right, including the stance, the rake of the body, and those way too cool rear fenders which are removable if you want a totally traditional T. Paint and finish work are quite good for being a few years old and the color works whether you look at it from a '70s point of view or today, so no worries about it looking dated, now or in the future. Other traditional T-bucket details include the upholstered rear deck, the period taillights, and a moto-meter atop the radiator up front. All the chrome and brass has been recently polished to really make it shine, and the exposed areas of the front frame were just repainted. Minimalism is the word when you get into a T-bucket, and this one does it right with diamond-tufted upholstery that's period-perfect. The nearly vertical steering column is also a big part of the T-bucket experience and it's topped with an authentic brass and wood steering wheel that probably dates from 100 years ago. A full array of period Stewart-Warner gauges are laid out along an oak dashboard and joined by a modern AM/FM/CD stereo head unit in the corner. In true Model T fashion, there's only one door on the passenger's side, but if you remove the top, hopping in is extremely easy from any angle. A 2-piece windshield has a neat rake and folds for even more of an open-air experience and the radically peaked convertible top adds to the car's wild look. Small block Chevy power always works well in a T-bucket because of the interesting exhaust port configuration, and this one is an old-school 327. There's a mild cam inside to make it cackle through those side pipes but not so radical that it becomes difficult to drive and someone recently invested a lot of time and money getting the mechanicals into top condition. There's an Edelbrock 4-barrel under that scoop and the intake manifold was recently painted so it looks great out there in the open. The entire ignition system was serviced including new plugs and wires, the block and transmission case were repainted, and fresh chrome covers for the timing chain and distributor were installed, so it's ready to rock. The TH400 3-speed automatic transmission is probably overkill for something this light with small block power, but you'll probably never break it, and all the brakes were completely serviced, including fresh rotors, lines, and friction materials. It's finished with a set of traditional big-n-little wire wheels and right-sized tires for the ideal T-bucket look. It's not hard to understand the appeal of a T- bucket: lots of power in a lightweight package. This one has a wonderful early look and for fans of the golden years of hot rodding, it's a great choice.
