Putting a thundering R-code 427 in a mid-sized car that was stripped bare was an awesome combination, and today real Thunderbolts are big money. Fortunately, you can get much of the same experience here at a much more palatable price. Yes, it's a tribute car, but few tributes actually get all the little stuff right. Most guys throw on a teardrop hood and call it done, but this tribute nails all the little factory tricks that made these cars so special. You'll note the painted front bumper, which was either aluminum or fiberglass depending on the model, the center high-beam headlights were removed to force-feed the engine cold air, and yes, the 2-door sedan body style is the right choice because it was light and strong. Most Thunderbolts were Wimbledon White like this one, so the graphics would show up bright and clear. This one sports a big 427 emblem on the doors, Thunderbolt lettering on the quarters, and a few details like lettering on the front fenders warning people not to lean on them due to their fragile lightweight construction. Fit and finish are quite good for being 10 years old and the car has a definite race-ready look that's far more appealing than bright, over-restored concourse shine. Bare-bones was the only way the Thunderbolt came from the factory, but the handsome gold bucket seat interior here manages to look upscale at the same time. Factory gauges were minimalist, so enterprising racers added Stewart-Warner dials just like you'll find here, including a tachometer mounted up high and a set of oil pressure and coolant temperature dials underneath. There's no radio, no heater, no clock, all of which added weight without adding power, and the only reason they used buckets is because you could remove the passenger's side to slash even more pounds. The big thin-rimmed steering wheel makes it easy to guide the unassisted steering and the door panels, seat covers, and even the floor coverings are beautifully rendered as they would have been when the car was new. The massive trunk is outfitted with a battery, which helps redistribute weight, but there is no spare, which obviously would be unnecessary in a race machine. The original Thunderbolts packed a FE-series 427 cubic inch V8, but this tribute gets to the same number a little differently. Instead of a giant chunk of cast iron up there, this one sports a stroked 351 cubic inch V8 which does indeed displace 427 cubic inches. It may not be immediately noticeable under the dual 4-barrel carbs, that giant air cleaner, and twin intake snorkels and from a horsepower standpoint, this one is every bit as strong as its 1960s counterpart. There are desirable upgrades like aluminum heads and a high-output electronic ignition, but when you rack the Toploader 4-speed through the gears, you won't care how it makes the power, only that it pulls like a freight train. Long-tube headers feed a Flowmaster dual exhaust system and it's been outfitted for race with a proper scattershield on the clutch and a 9-inch rear end that doesn't mind having fun. Plain painted steel wheels was the original look and it's replicated here with staggered 215/65/15 front and 275/60/15 rear blackwall radials for just the right stance. So go out, have some fun, and don't worry about destroying a piece of history, that's the magic of the tribute car. In the meantime, however, be ready for everyone to think you're driving the nastiest piece of factory muscle from the '60s. It's puzzling because these are handsome, comfortable, road-worthy cars with a distinctive look that captures the spirit of the 1950s without going to wretched excess like some other makes. Ford didn't go tailfin crazy, not even in 1959 when they reached their peak, and so this Fairlane has a rather conservative look. And for many of us, conservative works just fine. Of course, anything painted Colonial White and Torch Red will stand out, and the two-door sedan has a clean look and lots of interesting details that echoed throughout the Ford lineup. The little emblems atop the headlights are similar to those found on the Thunderbird, the roofline echoes the shape of the Skyliner "retractable" convertibles, and out back, jet-age styling arrived in the form of round taillights with wonderfully ornate trim bezels. Finish quality is quite nice, with a repaint just a few months ago in a period combination (this one was originally Gunsmoke Gray with Colonial White, by the way) and the sheetmetal underneath looks to have always been in good shape. And yes, even though there's not as much chrome as some other makes, there's still plenty of jewelry, most of which is in excellent shape, with only some light signs of age out back. This car has a great look. You'll smile when you see the beautifully preserved original interior, which currently wears period plastic seat covers, just like at grandma's house. You can credit those seat covers for doing such a beautiful job of keeping the tri-tone interior in such great shape, and anything that wasn't protected under plastic was nevertheless well maintained. We have to believe the carpets have been replaced simply because they're not faded or notably worn, but things like the door panels and headliner appear to be 1959-issue. The dash was refinished to match the bodywork and the beautiful white and red steering wheel was likely redone at the same time and still looks great. Original gauges are in excellent condition, and modern updates like the subtle under-dash A/C unit and AM/FM/cassette stereo are a great way to make the car more enjoyable without being too obvious about it. And with this Fairlane, you also get a giant trunk that comes complete with a full-sized spare with brand-new whitewall radial tire. A strong 332 FE block is under the hood of this Fairlane and it was fully rebuilt to factory specs. That means smooth performance and plenty of torque to move the big coupe without working very hard. The big air cleaner up top matches the FORD logo valve covers, so it has a period look and the entire engine was bathed in corporate turquoise engine enamel some years ago, so it could almost pass for original. The A/C system is neatly integrated and the car offers both power steering and power brakes, which have also been upgraded with a dual reservoir master cylinder. The 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission shifts very smoothly and there are 3.00 gears out back to make it a very pleasant cruiser. A recent dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers gives it a surprisingly mean exhaust note. Original wheels and hubcaps look correct, especially with those 225/70/14 BFGoodrich Silvertown wide whitewall radials. Relatively rare and nicely sorted, this big Ford is the Blue Oval alternative that still delivers a flashy '50s look. This beautifully presented '67 Fairlane 500 hardtop offers more space inside than a comparable Mustang, a more formidable presence on the road, and just as much performance from its 289 cubic inch V8. Wearing code M Wimbledon White, this striking Fairlane conceals its size with great styling that dominated the NASCAR tracks in the mid-1960s. Even the factory called it a "fastback," although its hardtop profile is more traditional than the name would imply. It's likely that the paint is original, but that also means that those giant quarter panels, the doors, and even the front fenders are original Ford steel. It's not perfect, of course, but there's an honesty to this car that's quite appealing. You could argue that a paint job would make this car a spectacular machine but with today's emphasis on originality, that might be a mistake. Either way, it's a great-looking car that attracts a lot of attention. The vinyl top gives it a bit of formality and all the chrome and trim is in good condition, including the impossible to replace rear window, which remains clear and unscratched. Frankly, it's more than a little unusual to find a Fairlane this well preserved. The preservation and quality continues inside, where a black vinyl interior provides brilliant contrast to the white paint. We're not quite sure if it's been restored or if some parts are original, but the good news is that it all looks uniform, so nothing stands out as either too nice or too deteriorated. The wide bench seats are comfortable and supportive, the door panels look great, and we're pretty certain that the carpets are newer simply because they look too good to be 50 years old. The factory gauges cover the basics but they're in good condition and everything works as it should. That steering wheel is one of the cooler pieces we've seen in any '60s car and it gives the big Fairlane a racy feel. Factory A/C is a great option and thanks to an R134a refrigerant upgrade, it works like it should. The trunk is truly massive and shows what we believe to be the original mat and a full-sized spare tucked in there up front. The C code 289 under the hood was standard equipment, but the Fairlane hardtop was still fairly light, so performance is lively. Nicely maintained and ready to enjoy, it starts almost as quickly as you can turn the key, and has a great small block Ford idle that is easy to love. Ford Blue paint covers the air cleaner and valve covers as it did when it was new, although it's showing some signs of age. However, it's all factory stock, delivering reliable performance with a great V8 soundtrack accentuated by a new dual exhaust system. A C4 3-speed automatic is a willing dance partner, with crisp downshifts and imperceptible upshifts, and the bulletproof 8-inch rear will outlive us all. The chassis is original and not detailed, but like the rest of the car, it shows signs of conscientious ownership throughout its life. Factory wire wheel covers and whitewall radials add to the traditional luxury look. Think of the Fairlane as Ford's version of the Chevelle, and you know how popular they are. This one runs and drives great and comes with a bunch of paperwork to back up its southern heritage. And despite large production numbers, '57 Fords are still far more scarce than their Chevy competitors, making this the car to own for the Ford guy in love with the '50s. The two-tone paint job, consisting of Colonial White over Inca Gold, makes this incredible Ford look about as long as a city block. Dramatic styling was the Ford's biggest virtue, and with the cut-outs around the fenders and faired-in tailfins, it looks like nothing else on the road. Finish quality is exemplary in every way with expert attention to detail, precise gaps, and a finish that's deep enough to use as a mirror. We always avoid using the word "perfect" when describing cars, but this one stands out in our showroom simply because of its quality; it's simply stunning. And as a product of the fabulous '50s, there's a ton of chrome, all of which was professionally restored to show standards, a project that probably cost more than a new Hyundai, and it glitters against the two-tone paint. Ford's familiar jet-inspired taillights look great on the Fairlane and it proudly advertises that this is a top-of-the-line Fairlane 500 with crisp script on each quarter panel. A glance inside this ragtop reveals very little about the modifications underneath, using correct black and white upholstery that's a smart contrast to the yellow bodywork. There are almost no signs of use, the seams are straight enough to have been made with a ruler, and the new carpets haven't been faded by the sun, remarkable in a convertible like this. The original gauges have been restored, as has the oversized steering wheel, and you'll note a set of auxiliary dials under the centrally-mounted A/C unit. There's also a newer AM/FM/cassette stereo that fits neatly in the center of the dash, but again, you really have to look for the upgrades, a testament to the quality of the build. A white power convertible top fits beautifully and includes a crystal clear rear window that doesn't even show a crease mark. It all stashes under a matching black vinyl boot. The massive trunk is nicely appointed, including a correct mat as well as a full-sized spare tire with jack assembly. Swing the forward-hinged hood open and you'll find a neatly disguised 302 cubic inch V8 that delivers more power than the original Y-block without altering the car's basic character. With a big Ford Blue air cleaner, a lot of folks wouldn't even notice that a change has taken place, especially with the big A/C compressor dominating the top of the engine bay. Of course, the Ford Motorsport finned valve covers might give it away, but that's easy to remedy if you want to really keep a low profile. You'll also note upgrades such as a modern dual master cylinder with power assist and an alternator to keep it charged up. A Holley 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust give it a bit more power and a traditional performance sound and the automatic transmission goes about its business without making a fuss. The very clean chassis is otherwise quite authentic, so it rides and handles like a 1957 Ford should and it sits on gorgeous chrome wire wheels with recent 215/75/14 Coker wide whitewall radials. Beautifully finished, fully functional, and rather rare, this incredible Ford represents the very best combination of restoration and modification to create a car you'll look forward to driving as often as possible. Add a sweet-running 289, and you have a great runner that's bound to generate more than its fair share of double-takes on the street and an easy car to upgrade to take it to the next level. I liken the early '60s Fairlanes to the industrial-strength Mopars of the same period: lots of power without a lot of excess baggage. The lines are clean but very subdued, the roofline is formal but stylish, and there's only enough trim to make a statement. Painting it red attracts a lot of attention, with this one being repainted quite a few years ago and perhaps in need of some freshening today. However, the paint obviously doesn't hide anything so you won't find major surprises underneath, and the look is still pretty intimidating. Seriously, if this car rolled up next to you at a light, you'd think twice about punching it when the light turned green; who knows what kind of evil lurks under that long hood? Fortunately, there's enough chrome to lighten the mood a bit, and all of it remains in great shape, particularly the angular side trim that matches the forward-canted angle of the roof. And I think Chrysler owes Ford an apology, because that concave rear window looks awfully familiar, don't you think? Personally, I think red interiors are a great choice no matter what you're driving. Flashy but traditional, the bench seat setup in this car has a luxurious yet sporty look that matches the car's personality. The seat cover, door panels, headliner, and carpets are all older pieces and showing their age a bit, but you don't have to worry much about it at this price. The instrument panel is original and all the gauges are disconnected, so that's a place where you can really add some value. The original AM radio is gone so it's ready for any kind of entertainment you'd like to add, and aside from a heater and defroster, this car is pretty light on options, so you know it was ordered and built to do just one thing out on the mean streets. The back seat is big enough for three friends (or "ballast" as we used to call them) and with a giant trunk, road trips or excursions to the track don't mean you have to leave essentials behind. A snarling 289 cubic inch V8 lives under the hood, and gives the Fairlane the moves of a much younger machine. Great low-end torque means it gets out of the hole quickly and the 289's penchant for high-RPM excursions comes via an aluminum intake and Holley 4-barrel carb. Ford Blue paint on the block looks the way Ford did it back in the day, with just enough bright chrome to make it look important. The transmission is a familiar C4 3-speed automatic and a 9-inch rear with 2.80 gears inside means this is an easy cruiser. A recent dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers sounds fantastic at, say 5000 RPM, and the vintage Magnum 500 wheels wear 225/70/14 white-letter radials that add the perfect performance look. An unusual, fast, fun cruiser that will have a lot of folks scratching their heads after having their doors blown off. With a little TLC, this could be a really impressive car. If that sounds like fun, call us today! 1965 Ford Fairlane for Sale 1965 Ford Fairlane for Sale Stock # 2585-ATL Charlotte Showroom 5400 West WT Harris Blvd Charlotte, NC 28269 Local/International: (704) 598-2130 Toll-Free: (866) 542-8392 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Atlanta Showroom 213 Thornton Rd Lithia Springs, GA 30122 Local/International: (678) 279-1609 Toll-Free: (877) 367-1835 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Dallas/Fort Worth Showroom 5400 Sandshell Dr Fort Worth, TX 76137 Local/International: (817) 764-8000 Toll-Free: (855) 877-2707 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM CST Sat: 9AM - 5PM CST Email: [email protected] TERMS OF SALE 1. Based on the 1964 Fairlane, this lightweight track monster packed Ford's nastiest engine, a featherweight shell, and minimal frills to create a car that can still bring a crowd to its feet today. That's probably why they're scary expensive, and rarely available for purchase on the open market. So this 1964 Ford Fairlane does a pretty good impersonation for a fraction of the cost and with a few more street-friendly features. OK, we know, Thunderbolts were Wimbledon White, but there's no reason why an enterprising team wouldn't paint theirs black and we have to say it looks downright predatory. They started with the right car, a '64 Fairlane 2-door sedan, and added the right pieces, including the reverse teardrop hood, gaping air intakes in place of the high-beams, and painted front bumper, all of which give it a race-ready look. A few emblems advertising the 427 under that hood help with the illusion and with "THUNDERBOLT" graphics and a bright red accent down the sides, and, well, nobody's going to mistake this for a garden-variety Fairlane. Every time you drive this car, you'd better be ready for the havoc it's going to cause in the stop light grand prix. The red interior is how many of the original Thunderbolts were equipped (hey, why not have some style with your speed?), and this car does it justice. Offering simple bucket seats that were the lightest in the Ford parts bin, plus a rear seat that came out without tools, it was easy to upgrade it to race day weight. On the other hand, the door panels and black carpets keep it civilized enough to be offered in showrooms and pleasant to drive today. Factory instrumentation is joined by a whole host of auxiliary dials, including a fuel pressure gauge out on the hood, a tachometer with shift light, and the usual dials under the dash. You'll note that it's got proper heater and radio block-off plates and a factory steering wheel, although the trick shifter is a modern touch. The trunk is stripped bare, of course, but includes a rear-mounted battery that helps with weight distribution. Ford's 427 cubic inch "center oiler" V8 was among the nastiest you could get in the mid-60s and a lot of racers soon realized that it's hard to beat a car that can leave the line at 6000 RPM. Those two giant snorkels force-feed a pair of Holley 4-barrel carbs on a high-rise intake and thanks to a .600 lift solid-lifter cam and 11:1 compression, this sucker cackles like the real deal. On the other hand, it seems happy enough on 93 octane pump gas, so if you don't abuse it, it'll be happy to slap around some late-model muscle on the street. It's backed by a C4 3-speed automatic with a TCI 2500 RPM stall torque converter and a reverse valve body and a stout 9-inch rear with 3.56 gears inside. Long-tube headers that look like sculpture feed a pair of race-grade Flowmasters with turn-outs just ahead of the rear wheels, so it sounds like the NHRA the moment you turn the key. The flashy chrome REV wheels aren't 1964, especially with streetable 215/50/17 front and 245/50/17 rear tires, but a set of vintage Torque Thrusts can remedy that if that's your bent. Fast, fun, and authentic enough to make the experience memorable, this cool Fairlane delivers on its legendary looks. This one packs a strong-running small block, a traditional white-on-red color combination, and an honest look to make it '60s style fun with a lot of tradition behind it. With a look that recalls the Thunderbolts of the period, this Fairlane has a high-performance legacy behind it. OK, so it's not a 427, but there's no denying that anyone who is into vintage motorsports recognizes the classic Fairlane 2-door sedan's shape, particularly when it's painted Wimbledon White. There are still a few vestiges of old-school styling on the car, including mini tailfins wrapped in chrome and plenty of brightwork on the front end, and we love the look. Paint is in good shape, but purely driver-grade, so don't be afraid to go out and use it as intended. It's got a few touch-ups from other guys doing just that, and if you really wanted to make it perfect, a professional wet sand and buff would give it an awesome shine, but it's far from necessary. The aforementioned stainless and chrome trim is in very good shape, with awesome little details like the "gunsights" atop the front fenders and the three "portholes" on the quarter panels (don't tell Buick!). Mid-sized cars didn't get much cooler than this in the 1960s. Also like most of the Thunderbolts, this Fairlane has a bright red interior, making for a great traditional look. It was probably originally vinyl, so someone thoughtfully upgraded this one to cloth that uses original-style patterns to keep it looking right but it's a lot more comfortable on hot days. Matching carpets, reproduction door panels, and a rather nice dash pad make it feel more expensive inside than it actually is. All the factory gauges are in very good condition with bright, clear markings and they all appear to be fully functional. The steering wheel is wrapped in black leather so it's easier to grab than the original skinny plastic rim, although we haven't investigated the condition of the wheel underneath. The factory AM radio is still in the middle of the dash, and it's probably overdue for an upgrade, and the great thing about cars like the Fairlane is that there's a big back seat for friends or your kids. The Fairlane also offers a massive trunk that isn't showing any big signs of trouble and includes a spare tire under a correct plaid cover. The 260 cubic inch V8 under the hood isn't going to smoke the tires, but it's smooth, torquey, and plenty adequate to move the relatively lightweight Fairlane with ease. It makes all the right V8 sounds and takes you back to how everyone was living in the early '60s. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how competent this car is, and the engine bay is pretty nicely done, with enough chrome to make it worth a second glance at the cruise-in. It stars and runs very well, and even with manual steering and brakes, it's easy to maneuver around town and awesome on the highway. The automatic transmission shifts without drawing attention to itself and easy-cruising gears out back mean it's very street-friendly. A fresh dual exhaust system offers a great rumble that never gets obnoxious and with period styled steel wheels and 205/70/14 white-letter radials, it's got a sporty look to match. This Fairlane is a great way to get into the hobby on a budget and still have a car that commands respect on the street. Combining classic Ford looks with a snarky 289 cubic inch V8, it's a fun, affordable way to enjoy traditional rear-wheel-drive performance with a Blue Oval flavor. Positioned somewhere between the Falcon and the Galaxie, the Fairlane has just the right proportions: big enough to be comfortable but not so big that it dampens performance. Finished in traditional Wimbledon White, it has a look that makes every old-school racer think twice before giving it a go at the local track. Next to the convertible, the hardtop is by far the most desirable body style and the combination of formality and performance is quite appealing. The finish is extremely nice, particularly at this price, with a great gloss and straight bodywork that strongly suggests this car has not been abused or wrecked. The white paint is just the right shade, not quite refrigerator white but not cream, either, and with all the factory brightwork still in place, it looks like it should cost thousands more than it does. In fact, much of the chrome and trim has been recently replaced or restored, so it shows well. The basic black interior was standard issue in the Fairlane, and for guys more interested in going fast, the accommodations were of little consideration. Therefore the original front bench remains in place, now covered with a reproduction seat cover that has sharply defined pleats and silver piping for just a little contrast. The fat wood-rimmed steering wheel is the most notable modification to the interior, but the modern A/C unit disguised as a period under-dash accessory is a very nice touch. The white-faced gauges are original and in decent shape, proving once again that white gauges are far from a recent invention. The factory-issued AM radio is long gone, replaced more recently by an AM/FM/CD stereo head unit, which powers a set of 6x9 speakers on the rear package shelf. The carpets, door panels, and headliner are in excellent condition, offering additional proof that someone invested in this car all out of proportion to its asking price. Even the trunk is nicely upholstered in black carpet rather than the basic rubber mat. It would be a mistake to underestimate Ford's muscular 289, because in the relatively lightweight Fairlane, performance is impressive. An Edelbrock intake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor surely add some ponies to the final count, and upgrades like an alternator and power steering make it reliable and comfortable enough to drive every day. Other smart upgrades include front disc brakes, a big sway bar, and a new dual exhaust system that sounds stock until you really stomp the loud pedal. A C4 3-speed automatic transmission and sturdy 8-inch rear end with 3.00 gears inside (at least according to the door tag) mean that it's equally happy in traffic or on the highway. The undercarriage is surprisingly tidy for a car in this price range and the lowered front end gives it just a bit of an attitude. Stock steel wheels with wire wheel covers are fitted with 215/70/14 white-letter radials that hint at the performance awaiting inside. A very neat old Ford with a lot of performance for not a lot of cash. If you're looking for fun on a budget that's not like everyone else's fun on a budget, then this Fairlane deserves a closer look. There's no sneaking around in a red and white convertible this big, but once you feel the smooth power and incredible ride, you'll be hooked for life on the fabulous '50s. The original door tag is still in place, so we know this one was originally a little more subtle, wearing Colonial White and Palomino Tan paint, but we think the red looks about a thousand times better. There's no point in trying to be subtle with a car that offers this much chrome, and the '58s are arguably the best-looking of the late-50s Ford models. It was refinished a few years ago and the work was incredibly thorough, because there's no trace of the bland old tan paint, even in the door jambs. The long streak of trim running from the headlights to the rear bumpers makes the perfect separation point for the two colors, making the massive Ford look long and lean, and with an anodized gold insert, the contrast is extremely appealing. Fit and finish are pretty good for the age of the restoration and the big doors close with a reassuring sound. Ford included a cool faux hood scoop on the '58s and they're easy to spot from behind with those big oval taillight housings and twin lenses that are an echo of Ford's jet-age infatuation. The giant chrome bumpers are in excellent shape and all the original emblems were reinstalled to retain a correct look. The two-tone treatment extended to the interior, where the original seats wear recent upholstery that mimics the original look with more modern materials. Suede inserts make the seats comfortable even on hot days (an important consideration in a convertible!) and the matching door panels seem to echo the exterior styling. You'll note there's a modern leather-wrapped steering wheel and an AM/FM stereo head unit, but otherwise it's quite stock. Again, the color change was complete enough that the dash looks the way the factory intended and the plush carpets make this big luxury cruiser smooth and quiet on the road. All the original gauges are fully functional and the dash is more cool 1950s art that looks fantastic. Overhead there's a white power convertible top with a crystal clear rear window, and this is one of the rare convertibles that looks as good with the top up as it does top-down. There's also a massive trunk with good floors and a full-sized spare tire that still leaves lots of room for your gear. Ford's top engine in 1958 was a 352 cubic inch V8 and in the big Fairlane, performance is smooth and effortless. The underhood area looks pretty stock, from the big, round air cleaner to the stamped steel valve covers with proper reproduction decals on their faces. It starts easily and runs great thanks to a new QuickFuel carburetor and new plugs, but other than those items, the engine bay presents as fairly stock. A 3-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear end with 2.69 gears inside mean that this is a fantastic highway car with a luxurious ride. A burbling Flowmaster exhaust system, new shocks, and a fresh gas tank all mean it's ready to cruise at a moment's notice, and those 17-inch Boyd Coddington wheels and 235/45/17 radials make for a great custom look. Compared to its Chevy competition, this Fairlane is a screaming bargain. V8 power, dramatic styling, and all-day comfort, this is a great cruiser for Blue Oval fans. Raven Black will never go out of fashion, and neither will V8 power and a comfortable interior, making this a great choice if you think that the drive is as important as the destination. Raven Black is this car's original color and the dark finish sure makes the perfect background for the distinctive trim. The whole car was rotisserie restored a few years ago and is holding up very well, and with black paint, there are no shortcuts. It's not perfect, but it was pretty close at one time and the only demerits are due to age, not neglect or abuse, so it still looks fantastic. Many hours were spent sanding the bodywork to make it straight enough to wear that black paint, and each panel lines up with the one next to it, critical when you have trim stretching from one end of the car to the other. The 2-door sedan body style is handsome and sporty, with forward-canted headlights that suggest motion even when it's sitting still. And speaking of trim, there's a lot of it on this Ford, all nicely polished up and looking great, from the trademark side trim to the massive front and rear bumpers, to Ford's favorite jet-exhaust taillights. It's been accessorized with headlight visors, which were a favorite period accessory, but beyond that and the shiny wheels, this car is quite stock. The two-tone original-style interior captures the look of the 1950s and adds a few accessories that make it a lot more fun to drive. The seats are factory-issue, covered with gray and white vinyl that is durable and comfortable for cruising. Stylish door panels echo the exterior trim using similar materials and there are black carpets on the floors to tie it all together. The instrument panel is stock, with aftermarket temperature and oil pressure gauges added under the dash and a period-looking A/C system that works well. The back seat is comfortable and spacious and while you're easing down the highway, you can enjoy the music of your choice on the AM/FM/cassette stereo, which fits neatly in the original slot in the dash. Ford-logo floor mats protect the carpets, there's a nice-fitting headliner overhead that brightens the interior, and the massive trunk features a correct mat and full-sized spare tire. Ford's Y-block V8 looks great under the hood, and at 292 cubic inches it makes the Fairlane a lot of fun on the road. It's dressed in Ford Red paint on the block, as original, and carries Thunderbird valve covers for a little extra flash under the hood. The A/C system's modern compressor is neatly tucked close to the block so it's not even that noticeable, and a modern dual reservoir power master cylinder was added for safety. The engine and transmission were both rebuilt several years ago and it runs and drives great today. The 3-speed manual w/Overdrive gearbox makes this Ford a little more involving to drive than your average cruiser and with highway gears out back, it's effortless at modern highway speeds. A recent dual exhaust system gives it just the right mellow tone and the ride height can be tweaked using the air shocks out back. Those aforementioned Cragars are a classic look, and they're wrapped in white-letter BFGoodrich radials. This handsome Ford has a lot to offer and has been tastefully upgraded to merely put a polish on what was already there. Vehicle Information VIN: 4F43C188715 Stock: 2032-ATL Mileage: 55,105 Color: White Trans: Automatic Engine: MPG: Drivetrain: Description In the days before the Mustang and before the term muscle car had even been coined, cars like this 1964 Ford Fairlane hardtop were the go-to choices for the guy who liked having fun behind the wheel. Combining classic Ford looks with a snarky 289 cubic inch V8, its a fun, affordable way to enjoy traditional rear-wheel-drive performance with a Blue Oval flavor. It would be a mistake to underestimate Fords muscular 289, because in the relatively lightweight Fairlane, performance is impressive. A C4 3-speed automatic transmission and sturdy 8-inch rear end with 3.00 gears inside (at least according to the door tag) mean that its equally happy in traffic or on the highway. If youre looking for fun on a budget thats not like everyone elses fun on a budget, then this Fairlane deserves a closer look. This 1956 Ford Fairlane Club Sedan, for instance, probably cost two or three times the asking price to restore, and the labor of love behind the effort didn't care one bit about the staggering cost. The result is an exquisite restoration of an unusual car that's just off-the-charts amazing. The two-tone color combination on this lovely Fairlane is Buckskin Tan and Colonial White, an unusual and perfectly charming 1950s look. Fit and finish are show-quality and the investment in time and labor is obvious everywhere you look. The doors fit flush, the fenders and quarters are smooth and free of distortions, and the paint has a soft glow that looks exactly right on the 1950s Ford. Dramatic side trim was a Ford look in the mid-50s and it gives this car a very upscale look and also provides the perfect breaking point for the two-tone paint, and I've always particularly enjoyed the way the headlight rings wrap around into the hood. There's probably $15,000 worth of chrome on this car, too, with brilliant bumpers, shiny stainless with a lot of detail, and correct emblems including the delicate 'Fairlane' script on the doors. The Medium Brown interior is equally impressive and the unusual fabrics and color are most definitely correct for 1956. The two-door club sedan is what most folks call a "post coupe" and there's plenty of room front and rear for full-sized adults. Both bench seats wear correct patterns and that funky fabric with beautifully stitched door panels to match. The gauges will probably look familiar to anyone who has driven an early 2-seat Thunderbird and the color-matched steering wheel is beautifully finished. Correct carpets and a taut headliner are details that make it feel fresh inside and there's very little wear since it was completed. A factory AM radio remains in the dash, although like many cars of this era, it's not currently functional. There's also a massive trunk in back, making this an ideal road trip car, and it's dressed up with a correct plaid mat and full-sized spare tire. A Thunderbird-spec 312 cubic inch V8 was planted under the hood and it gives the club sedan sparkling road manners. Supremely smooth at idle and energetic enough to make this heavy cruiser feel quick, it's a bit of performance in an otherwise fairly conservative package. Complete with a heavy-duty air cleaner, bright Ford Red paint on the block, and Thunderbird valve covers, it looks racy under the hood. Other correct bits include reproduction hose clamps, a cast iron master cylinder, and a reproduction FoMoCo battery. A 2-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission makes the most of the engine's broad torque curve and there are easy-cruising gears out back. You'll also note that the underside of the car is beautifully finished and so shiny that you'll think twice about driving it when the weather is about to turn and with a burbling dual exhaust system, it makes wonderful sounds going down the road. Recent wide whitewall radials are fitted to the original wheels with wire hubcaps. Unusual colors make this a standout car, even though it's also subtle. A true labor of love, this car is exceptional in every way and it shows.
