The second most remarkable thing is just how well it works. This is one nasty little Ford! The cabriolet body style offers the sleek roadster look but with better weather protection thanks to roll-up windows. The body is all steel, which means this is a rather rare car, and at a glance it looks quite stock. It hasn't been chopped or shaved or festooned with wild graphics, and aside from the bumpers, the rolling stock, and the stance, most folks won't suspect anything has changed under the hood. The black paint is in good shape, but isn't show-worthy, but that only means you'll enjoy driving it without worries. It shines up nicely, the doors fit well, and the hood snugs down with an even fit, so all the basics are quite good. Black paint doesn't hide flaws very well, either, so you can quickly see that the metal underneath is in good condition and hasn't been notably altered from Henry's original design. The bumpers are from a different make, perhaps a Hudson, a few bits of chrome have been deleted, but there's no mistaking the 1936 Ford grille. Out back there are 1939 Ford taillights with blue dots and experts will note this is a rather rare club cabriolet, so instead of a rumble seat, there's a good-sized trunk, too. The interior is neatly finished in black with plush front seats and the aforementioned back seat for kids or friends. All the upholstery is in very good condition and it includes neatly finished door panels that have vertical pleats for a period-correct look. Upgrades are extensive, ranging from the neatly installed A/C system under the dash to the handsome cream-faced gauges from Classic instruments to the tilt steering column and 4-spoke steering wheel. Real hot rod enthusiasts will be happy to see three pedals on the floor and a real 4-speed transmission handle sticking out of the floor, making this car a blast to drive. Other niceties include power windows and a beautiful black canvas convertible top that fits well and folds easily, where it stows under a matching black vinyl boot. And as I mentioned, this car also includes a nicely sized, fully-carpeted trunk. That thundering 396 cubic inch V8 makes this little Ford a legitimate threat on the street, no matter how you look at it. It's definitely crammed in there, but the effect on bystanders when you open the hood is always impressive. A few chrome dress-up pieces make it sparkle from within the black engine bay and with an Edelbrock carb and intake, it's a very strong runner. The 4-speed manual gearbox never flinches with all that torque churning through it and the soundtrack of the dual exhaust is simply spectacular. A 10-bolt rear end with highway-friendly gears makes this a comfortable highway cruiser and with all that torque on tap, a big gear really isn't needed anyway. The front clip is from a late-model Camaro with power steering and disc brakes, and the rolling stock is new, including the wheels, hubcaps, and staggered 15-inch whitewall radial tires. '36 Fords are always popular, and the combination of a quality build, rare cabriolet body style, and big power makes this a very desirable rod indeed.
