1981 Ferrari 400i. Chassis # 34845. From my private collection in Palm Beach Florida. Imported when new in 1981 into California. Full documentation. Fantastic car, only 34,236 original miles, rare sunroof, automatic, silver with beautiful burgundy and black leather interior (smells great), good Michelin tires, wheels in excellent shape, optional dual AC (requires charging), all original books, leather Ferrari folder and records, fanatically maintained, no accidents/never damaged, garage kept and covered, workshop manuals, newer starter (2014), recent oil and filter change (April 2015), window motor regulator recently repaired, headliner a little less than perfect, glass is in good condition, expansion container for radiator recently repaired, very original except for radio/speakers (I have the radio/CD faceplate and the power antenna works), original Ferrari floor mats, new car cover, original leather tool pouch, jack and spare, never damaged, needs some minor exhaust leaks repaired, shown at The Cavillino Classic 2015 (Palm Beach Breakers), occasionally some of the lights act up (determined must be a short), overall drives great, wipers just stopped working, turn signal stalk is broken, never smoked in, leather and carpet very clean and without stains or odors. I'd like to describe the paint. It is an older repaint to the original color and its a 8.5 out of 10. I don't know the year the repaint but I would estimate 5-6 years ago. The rear trunk edge has a small hairline crack and the rear driver's side quarter panel has a slight imperfection. Overall it is very straight, correct panel gaps and quality refinished. It showed very nicely next to some much more valuable 250, Testarossa, etc. at Cavillino. Also, I presume the glass and all trim was disassembled carefully and installed to a high level. Finally, I recently had the front back bumper refinished to make it perfect. It had a small scratch on it. This 400i is beautiful and a fast appreciating V12 Ferrari that is still affordable. Frankly, it turns heads everywhere I drive it and is in great original condition. Please come and inspect anytime. Not a perfect car, but very very clean. I don't think you will be disappointed. Sold AS-IS. Deposit required and full payment within 7 days. I wasn't able to list as a 1981 because eBay wouldn't accept the 5 digit VIN so I listed as a 1980 on the site. Call with questions. Interesting Read: Now That Original Is More Valuable Than A Perfect Restoration There Are A Few Questions That Come To Mind The trend toward original cars being worth more than restored cars has been creeping up on us for a while – at least in the US. I think collector car enthusiasts in Europe have long valued originality more than US collectors. I wrote about two 1965 Shelby GT350s in 2012 that clearly demonstrated this trend in the US. But now it is out in the open with the sale in Arizona recently at the Gooding auction of two1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL coupes - one fully restored and the other almost completely original. They were even the same color combination although the restored car had an interior color change, which can be done on a restoration but not on an original car. The restored 300SL sold for $1,402,500 and the un-restored version sold for $1,897,500 at the same auction. This is a hefty 35% premium for originality. The irony is that the owner of the restored car has much more money into his 300SL but he received a lot less! Read Full Article Here The 308 GTBi is one of the rarest Ferraris built with only 494 examples being made. 308 GTBi/GTSi. The Quattrovalvole part of the model name referred to the four valves per cylinder heads on the engine, which provided increased power over the preceding model. Visually the new model was very similar to the outgoing one, but could be recognized by the addition of a slim louvre panel in the front lid to aid radiator exhaust air exit, paired electrically operated door mirrors with a small enamel Ferrari badge on the shell, a revised radiator grille with rectangular driving lights at the extremities, and rectangular (instead of round)side repeater lights. The interior also received some minor alterations, and cloth seat centres became available as an option to the standard full leather, while the leather rim satin black three spoke steering wheel featured a triangulated section around the horn push. The removable grained satin black finished roof panel was stowed in a vinyl cover behind the seats when not in use. As with the preceding series of 308 models, USA market cars could be identified by heavier bumper assemblies, and rectangular side marker lights on the wings. The V8 engine was essentially of the same design as that used in the 308 GTSi model, apart from the four valves per cylinder heads. It was of a 90 degree configuration, with belt driven twin overhead camshafts per bank, having a total capacity of 2926 cc, with a bore and stroke of 81 mm (3.2 in) x 71 mm (2.8 in), with wet sump lubrication, bearing factory type reference F 105 AB 000 for European market cars. The claimed power output for main market European cars was 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 7000 rpm, and 235 bhp (175 kW; 238 PS) at 6800 rpm for US market variants. The engine was transversely mounted in unit with the all synchromesh five speed transmission assembly, which was below, and to the rear of the engine's sump. The gear and final drive ratios were altered to suit the revised characteristics of the four valves per cylinder engine. One other significant benefit of the QV four valve heads was the replacement of the non-QV models sodium valves which have been known to fail at the joint between the head and the stem.
