The 308 carried a 2.9 litre DOHC eight cylinder engine with four Weber carburetors amidship which was the same layout that was used in the Boxer. The GTS model was introduced for model year 1977 and became the most popular of the two models offered. Ferrari had to keep up with strict emission regulations through the late 1970’s and for model year 1980 introduced fuel injection to the 308. The 308 by this point had become a little heavier and power had dropped to a mere 205hp. It was not until the 1983 model year that Ferrari introduced the 308QV which gave a stronger engine with more power and added four valves per cylinder. The 308 soldiered on until 1985 when it was replaced by a very similar 328. The iconic style of the 308 is one of the most recognized Ferrari’s ever produced and the early carbureted models have become the most sought after. European Motor Studio is very proud to offer this stunning 1979 Ferrari 308GTS Carbureted model finished in Giallo over Nero leather. This Giallo 308 was sold new on May 15, 1979 in Los Angeles California and was owned and titled by “The 6 Million Dollar Man” himself, Lee Majors. At the time Lee Majors was married to Farrah Fawcett and owned this 308 until sometime in the mid to late 1980’s when the second Southern CA owner purchased the car. The car was owned by the second owner until 1996/1997 when the third Southern CA owner purchased the car and kept it until a private collector out of Dallas TX purchased it in 2013 and has owned it since it was traded into European Motor Studio. The car is exceptionally well documented all the way back to new and has an enormous file of receipts and records. The Giallo paint is in exceptional condition with no real flaws or issues and a stunning interior with minor wear to the driver seat bolster. The Targa top is in excellent condition with a nice fit free from any shrinkage or damage. This 308 has traveled a mere 42,996 miles from brand new and has just had a full major service including a timing belt and tensioners, along with a new AC compressor and drier, oil and trans cover gasket, cam gaskets and all fluids. The engine was rebuilt in the mid 90’s and runs and drives beautifully. The carbs are in tune and the engine starts right up. There is no smoke under start up or acceleration and the gearbox is smooth through all of the gears free from any grinding or slipping. The clutch is nice and strong and free from any slippage. The brakes are strong and free from any fade or pulsating. The steering is nice and tight and quite a bit of work was recently done on the steering and suspension. All of the electrical equipment is in working order and the pop up headlights are operating as designed. There are no signs that this 308 has ever been involved in any kind of accident or has ever had any damage. The body is exceptionally straight and the paint finish is beautiful. The undercarriage is beautiful and free from any rust or damage. Two binders inches thick of records and receipts are present with the sale of the car along with service manuals, a parts catalog and the original owners handbook, spare tire, jack in the original bag and two sets of keys. This is an exceptional example of a rare and desirable early carbureted model 308 finished in a rare and fantastic color combination accompanied by many decades of documents and receipts with excellent Hollywood provenance. This is the last year for the GT4 production and they only made 112 of them in 1980 which is about 5 percent of the total production run of 2,138 made from 1974 to 1980. This car is a desirable Euro model which gives it the Euro bumpers, lights and European free flowing exhaust system. It has 46,000 kilometers on it from new which is about 26,000 miles. Not only is this a true 1 owner car, but the owner happened to own the local franchise Ferrari dealership in the town I grew up in on Long Island, NY!! The owner kept the car and drove it home and left it in his garage where it was added to his personal collection of cars. He retired to Florida around 2005 and the car was only started occasionally on trips back to New York for a while where it sat in a large garage under a cover and then around 2008 it remained under the cover in the garage not to be ever started again in New York. Fast forward to February 2015, I flew to New York to purchase 2 Ferrari's from the collection and had them both loaded onto an enclosed Transport without even attempting to start them since they had not run in so long. I had them shipped out to Scottsdale, AZ and immediately performed a 30k major service before even attempting to start the car. The list of work I just had performed on the car is as follows: replaced both timing belts Replaced both timing belt tensioners Replaced alternator/water pump belt Replaced A/C belt Replaced all seals and gaskets on top end of motor Flushed cooling system Replaced spark plugs Replaced fuel filter Replaced oil and oil filter Flushed brake fluid Rebuilt all 4 brake calipers Replaced front Koni red shocks, shock bushings, shock sleeve's Replaced all front control arm bushings Replaced 2 Michelin XWX tires (replaced the 2 original XWX tires on it that were rock hard) Replaced all wheel center cap emblems Performed a complete operations check to make sure everything on the car operates correctly This car has never before been for sale and has been sitting in a climate controlled garage since it was new and has not seen the light of day in at least the last 10-15 years and stored under a car cover. It has never been in an accident, altered, abused or modified. Plus the fact that the owner actually owned a franchise Ferrari dealership you know that this car received proper maintenance as well. This Ferrari is as stock and unmolested as they come. The low mileage and the very easy life it had is evident in the whole car from front to back. The only 2 things I can knock the car for is that it is missing all the books and the tool kit. It does have the jack and the jack roll. When the owner closed down the Ferrari dealership several years back the paperwork and the tool kit never made it back into the car and were lost. The paint is very nice on the car and it is laser straight down both sides. All the trim fits nice, bumpers are in great shape, still retains all the original headlight and fog lights, glass is in good shape and all the gaps are good. The interior is very impressive and looks like a time capsule even down to the original radio it had installed in 1980 and it still works fine. All the buttons, switches, windows and gauges work well. Mechanically it starts right up and never hiccups or misses a beat. It was just fully serviced and pulls smooth throughout the entire RPM range. The transmission shifts great into every gear and this car has never been driven hard.
