Im selling this car for a friend of mine but I know the car quite well. What we have here is a 1962 Dodge Polara 500 that has been restored to very high professional standards. Money was not the object when restored but to make it one of the best and the pictures will show it. Just about any thing that could be replaced or rebuilt has been done.. It has been restored approx 5-6 years and has been used very seldom since. As my friend has other cars also. It is equipped with the 413 CI motor and equipped with dual 4 barrel carbs (2X4), 2 Edelbrock 500 CFM carbs. Engine runs very good and is very peppy, starts right up. It does have a mild cam which helps for a nice sound. Rebuilt 391 gears in the rearend,.Transmission is a rebuilt 727 push button in the dash. Rebuilt power front disc brakes, power steering. The rims and tires are a recent addition with very few miles on them. Fronts are 15/6s and rears are 15/7s. All the chrome was done in the resto as well as all the stainless was buff to a mirror finish. The paint on the car has no defects and we just had the front lower valence repaired and refinished a we saw a couple of flaws in it. Interior is perfect including the headliner. Dash is perfect. Looks like brand new in side including all the fuzzys along the edge of the windows.All door rubbers and trunk rubbers are new. Engine is detailed to the max Inside of trunk is detailed. The underside of this car is about as nice as the top all painted out and very clean.This car has been a trophy winning car at all shows where judging is involved and that includes all Mopar shows. I have probably missed something but if more info is needed just email me or call me.This is a beautiful that is rare in its design and style, you dont see these at the shows hardly ever. People just appreciate the look of a classic car in great condition like this one and you will too! First of all in full disclosure, the only reason I am selling the car is because my wife (who is from Tennessee) and I have just decided to move to eastern Tennessee some time after the first of the year and I don't want the extra expense of moving the car along with all the other moving costs. 2nd and more importantly, given that this car has always been in SoCal I don't want to take it out of state - it belongs here near the beach as far as I am concerned. And even if I wanted to take it to TN there is so much inclement weather there I wouldn't be able to enjoy it nearly as much as I have here because I would never drive it in the rain. In fact the only time I have even put the top up is to take the photos for this ad. I am only the 3rd owner. The 2nd owner bought it in 1983 from the original buyer in LA and kept it garaged at his home in Lancaster, CA where over the years did most of the work to bring the car to the its current condition with the exception of the interior. I bought the car in June of 2015 and have kept the car continuously garaged. As you can see it is in excellent condition with only a couple of minor flaws which I will point out in the following details. I will do my best to accurately describe the condition including said flaws so you can be confident before viewing in person that you won’t be wasting your valuable time. First of all the body is very straight with no dents or visible dings. The lines and gaps are near perfect and all hinges and closures work great. There is a chip in the windshield near the center other than that all glass is in great shape. The only flaw on the body is a small area of surface rust just below and behind the driver door which you can see in the pic to the right. I took it in for an estimate and for rust removal and repainting with blending and was quoted avg price of $600 so it won't cost you much to fix that. All of the chrome including letters and emblems were redipped several years ago and as you can see still looks great with no dents, dings or rust with the exception of a little light surface rust on the vent wing windows and the turn signal lever. The two passenger side headlight bezels are cracked on the bottom. They could be repaired easily or if you want to replace them I have seen several on eBay. All lights work including front and rear side markers. However the hazard function is not working so I assume the switch needs to be replaced. The powered convertible top is structurally sound and motor is strong and in perfect working order. There are a couple of loose areas in the liner but nothing major. There however is a small cut on the driver side rear just above the chrome and just a bit of fray on the piping on the passenger side. Frankly I haven't been in a hurry to get the top fixed because I never saw the point in driving this beauty with the top up and now that I am selling it I will leave that up to you. There are countless places to get it repaired in both Orange and LA counties so you won't have any problem there and it won't cost you much. As you can see under the hood is a pretty clean 318 5L V8 with a 3 speed auto transmission. I had the Holly 600 carburetor rebuilt on 7/1/15 and according to the previous owner he rebuilt the engine at about 80k miles. The huge trunk is pretty clean as well and could comfortably sleep a small family of 3 :-) The jack is there along with a spare tire and the trunk light works great. I had the interior redone about a month ago and as far as I am concerned, it really makes the car pop! It was all black but the seats had been recovered in cloth and didn't match the door panels etc. . . So I had everything recovered in white vinyl because I didn't want to get scalded every time I sat down if the car had been sitting in the sun for a bit. I was very pleased that I went with the white because it really changed the whole look of the car. I tried to keep the lines and stitching as close to original as I could, not that it really matters as this car is not a show quality restoration. But I at least wanted it to look original. I also replaced the Kenwood stereo with an original '68 Dodge Music Master thumbwheel AM radio I found on eBay and it works great! While the car was being reupholstered I had them recover the top dash pad as it was cracked and in terrible condition. So while it was disassembled I replaced the dash speaker and the rear speaker which is located behind the speaker grille on the center top of rear seat. I also had the seatbelt webbing replaced as well. I just bought another original steering wheel with horn ring and center cap on eBay which I was going to have refinished and then replace the one currently installed which is in pretty good shape itself, I just bought the second one so I could send one in while using the other and still drive the car. I found someone who does this for a living and since there are no cracks or damage he will only charge $100 to refinish it. The horn ring currently on the car is in great shape but the new one should either be painted or even chrome dipped if you prefer continue that project. It has brand new Hancook Optimo H724 whitewall tires installed on 6/20/15 with only 700 miles on them. The hubcaps are in great shape as well. I have a lot of extra parts that will come with the car such as taillight assemblies, speedometer/instrument cluster assembly, an extra vent window assembly, several extra hubcaps and other misc items. FYI when I purchased the car I was given all receipts and maintenance records dating back to 1990. So I will provide those as well as my records to date. I really wish I could keep this car and continue replacing things here and there to get her as close to restored as possible but it just doesn't make sense financially given our upcoming move and like I said she belongs in SoCal. So as they say my loss is your gain and as the listing says this is a great daily driver or you can take it to the next level and fully restore it. You are buying a 1968 Dodge Polara Nevada Highway Patrol Car. This is a REAL FACTORY POLICE CAR and has the "K" as the second letter of the VIN as well as "L" as the fifth showing it is a 440 TNT 375 HP car. The car is optioned kind of strangely with A/C, Manual Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Radio Delete, Rear Window Defroster, Heavy Duty Roof Reinforcement, and Police Package. This was an ORIGINAL Nevada Highway Patrol Car and was probably stripped of the police specific items (lights, radio, siren, decals) when it was a couple years old and then sold to a private party. I know the history from when it was in Nevada after the sale until it was last driven in Arkansas in 1974 (when it was parked). This is a great restoration project as it is fairly complete and only rusty in a few places. This car has not been in the road salt and the frame rails and basic structure of the car are very solid. The left quarter will need a lower patch panel but the right side looks fine. The trunk floor and quarter extensions will probably need replaced as well as the floor footwells under the original rubber floor mat. The grille, tail lights and bumpers all look very nice. The roof has some rust around the front and rear edges but it will not need a complete roof skin, just some patch work. The original VIN and both Data Plates are correct and in very nice condition I have confirmed the transmission is the NUMBERS MATCHING UNIT but the engine is not. It is however a 1968 440 with the correct date code, just not the matching VIN. The engine is stuck from sitting and I am sure will need rebuilt but I do not see where it has ever blown up. The missing engine parts are not included but I have some of them available on a parts car. The POLICE ONLY CERTIFIED SPEEDOMETER in Very Nice and the Fast Idle Lock that was used to idle the car up so it would not overheat while sitting with the A/C on is in place and nice. We removed the gas tank as it was rusted on the bottom (and smelled real bad) but I did save the filler tube. Replacement tanks are available but not the tube. All the glass is very nice with the exception of the windshield. I have the rear seat out of the car but it is included. The rear seat belts have never been taken out of their plastic covers and are are LIKE NEW. I have included a picture of the way the car would have looked when new. This is a RARE CHANCE to own a REAL Nevada Highway Patrol Car (like the ones used in the original Vanishing Point movie) as I have never seen another come up for sale as a project. The car rolls and steers great and would be no issue to load on a trailer. I do not have a title but a notorized bill of sale will be included. The Transmission is a 727 with stainless steel cover along with the oil pan...the rear is an 8 3/4 posi unit with either 355 gears ( not sure)...The car has disc frt and drum rear brakes that stop very nicely..15" BFG tires mounted on matching steel rims with poverty hubs and trim rings the chrome on this car is OUTSTANDING....The interior is also gorgeous all wipers , heat, windows work well, the glass is in very very good condition , there are no rips on the seats , headliner or carpet. the original AM radio is still in there and works....You can not get this work or condition car for the money!!! you will not be dissapointed !!! the car drives beautifully . You are bidding on a rare Mopar, not many of these seen outside the muscle car books. The BIN price is set to sell but we will accept or counter any offer you send this way, just want to see this go into the right hands. We have available a 1964 Dodge Polara 50th Anniversary with a 318 wide block and push button automatic transmission. This car is a solid survivor with great potential. The engine turns over and will run with a coil and distributor. The engine will come complete with the air filter hat and distributor. Chrome trim is in excellent condition beyond what is expected of its age, all there and polishes up well. The classic front rocket trim is in place on both front fenders. The seats are mostly in decent shape, passenger and rear seat may just need a recover. The drivers front seat will need springs, insulation and a recover. Carpet is also in good condition with a wear spot near the accelerator pedal and some fading here and there, headliner will also need work. The car is not without rust. The front cab pans have a ~10x10" square that will need replaced along with a smaller patch near the trans tunnel on the passenger side. The trunk is solid for the most part with a couple rust patches but still very intact throughout. Passenger side door has a 3-4" strip of rust and rear quarter with a small hole about half the size of a nickel, pass rear door will need to be replaced or have the dent knocked out. Drivers side is much cleaner with some rust on the cowl and a pin sized hole in the rear quarter. Frame is very solid, as is the body for the most part.
