There was plenty of money invested in upgrading the V8 power and turning this into a all-dark machine, but that doesn't mean you have to pay too much. 1972 is a desirable year for Darts. This would be the last time they did not have federally mandated impact bumpers, and that means something special on a car like this. It's all-black style looks great when the painted bumpers hug the body like they're not even there. It gives this coupe a brute muscle car look that helps highlight features like the front chin spoiler. Even thought this mean Mopar is dark down to its steelie wheels, the paint is all done in such a nice high gloss that people will think of this less as a budget bruiser, and more like an undercover muscle machine. Open the door and you'll see more of this custom midnight attitude. The bucket seats are borrowed from a late model car (a comfortable upgrade), but the black vinyl pattern still matches everything else inside. The darkness is broken up by a hint of classy color, with the Dart's wood paneling remaining on the doors and dashboard. It also matches the iconic Hurst pistol grip shifter. This stick shift is part of the reason you'll be glad there is a sports steering wheel to hang onto, and a large AutoMeter tachometer with shift light to keep an eye on (there's a set of auxiliary gauges below the dash as well.) For everyone else in the car, there's an upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo to stay entertained. As you probably have guessed by now, there is something quite wicked under the hood of this Mopar. You could get a 340 cubic-inch motor like this one in the Dart Demon version in 1972, but even that did not get the famous three two-barrel carburetors on top. Yes, this one has been upgraded to the iconic six-pack! It's also received Mopar Performance valve covers, Jacobs Ultra Coil ignition, and long tube headers. This all combines to make the kind of rumble from the dual exhaust that you'd expect from a bad boy coupe. And you'll have no trouble proving this power on the streets, thanks to the four-speed manual transmission. But for those times when you just want to go around intimidating people at slow speeds, this custom Dart will cruise all day thanks to its power steering and front disc brakes. This is a big booming motor in an all-dark package. Who knew you could get Darth Vader on wheels for such an affordable price? For instance, even though style is a matter of opinion, "beautiful Edsel" usually isn't thrown around too much. "Classic Honda" definitely isn't a combination you hear too often. And "electric street rod" seems about as natural as "vanilla bean chocolate". But, in case you couldn't tell, your friends at RK Motors Charlotte enjoy unique phrasing as much as we love unique cars. And that's why we're happy to use the words "affordable MoPar" to describe this sinister Dodge Dart. Fully restored and ready to hit the show, this classic wraps a massaged Magnum V8 and tough A833 4-speed in striking black and red aesthetics that are guaranteed to turn heads. BODYWORK/TRIM Much cleaner than when it originally rolled down Chrysler's storied assembly lines, this slick Dodge coupe has been transformed into a take-no-prisoners show stopper that consistently drops jaws. You won't be staying under the radar with the car's wet looking black paint, which highlights a very clean body that benefitted from a pair of fresh quarters. There are no signs of rust or rot, suggesting that mostly original metal was a straight, trouble-free canvas before its detailed metamorphosis began. Not surprisingly, panel gaps are good enough to make a traditional tail stripe line up exactly right. Trim is factory-spec all the way. And overall, this fully sorted Dart is a virtually flawless representation of timeless Detroit muscle. ENGINE When are two letters insufficient? "GT" says it all, right? Gran Turismo, Grand Touring, however you want to pontificate, if you're going to add a third letter it better mean something. And when Dodge tacked on an "S", they were sure to highlight the fact that they jammed a pavement-rippling torque monster under the hood of a lightweight, compact car. Check this GTS' glossy engine bay and you'll find a correct Magnum V8 that hangs a familiar 2468130 casting number opposite an August 15th, 1967 casting date. Now, I just said "Magnum" because, instead of being your run-of-the-mill 383, this bored and stroked small block currently displaces a whopping 434 cubic inches! At the top of the Hemi Orange mill, a coated Edelbrock 4-barrel guides wind from a correct chrome air cleaner in to a factory-spec intake. At the sides of that intake, chrome valve covers cap ported and polished 906 heads that have been rebuilt with 1.81 and 2.14 Manley stainless valves. At the front of those heads, an electronic distributor sequences spark between a fresh harness and clean Chrysler Electronic Suppression cables. Those cables fire stout 10.5 to 1 compression thanks to an internally balanced, forged 4340 crank, Eagle H-beam connecting rods and custom-built Ross Racing pistons. Restored exhaust manifolds feed large, true-dual pipes, with the help of a Comp flat-tappet cam. A correct 033 radiator circulates water through pliable Mopar hoses and modern screw clamps. And overall, this Dodge's clean engine bay is a nice combination of form and function, featuring a reproduction MoPar battery, an authentic Chrysler washer tank and high quality ARP fasteners. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Take one look under this slick A-Body and you'll find a fully sorted chassis that's adequately equipped to back the car's attractive looks. A correct Chrysler A833 4-speed twists a proven 8.75-inch rear end that's fitted with correct 3.91 gears. That smooth drivetrain feeds a familiar front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension that's shackled to factory manual steering and aftermarket shocks. At the front of that suspension, factory disc brakes have been supplemented with slotted rotors. At the back of that suspension, factory drum brakes have been replaced with an SSBC disc conversion. Exhaust rumbles through true-dual pipes, which employ traditional turbo mufflers and polished stainless tips. Above that impressive hardware, original, body-matched floors frame a new fuel tank, fresh stainless fluid lines and sturdy subframe connectors. And at the corners of those floors, 15-inch steelies spin 215/70 BF Goodrich Radial redlines, and 235/70 BF Goodrich Radial redlines, around red-trimmed center caps. INTERIOR Inside this Dart, a quality Legendary interior does an excellent job of mimicking correct factory fodder. The car's bucket and bench seats are soft to the touch, featuring pliable covers that present very well. In front of those perches, a warp-free dash frames a trademark square speedometer above an old school Dart Solid State and small Auto Gage accessory gauges. Below that dash, a wood-trimmed and black-dyed console anchors a simple Hurst shifter. At the base of that console, "Dart" branded floor mats protect fade-free carpet. At the sides of that carpet, weather-free door panels unite glossy frames with serious "GTS" badging and sprinkle bright hardware. In front of the driver, a wood-look steering wheel spins bright spokes around a Sunpro Super Tach II. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features a correct jack and fresh plaid mat. HISTORICAL INFORMATION Since Galen Govier decoded this Dodge's VIN and fender tag, there's no questioning the accuracy of the car's clean restoration. Here's a detailed look at how it left Chrysler's Hamtramck manufacturing facility. It's a good thing this 1968 Dodge Dart makes such an instant impression, because people will be spending most of their time looking at your taillights. Dodge's flyweight Dart proved the old adage that taking weight out was just as effective as beefing up horsepower. But what if you did both, then painted it a bright green? Well, you'd have this incredible Dart. These have always been the blocky looking bad boys, and now this one will even just about glow in the dark thanks to a fresh coat of Mopar's legendary shade of Sublime green. It also doesn't hurt that this has aggressive black accents in the hood scoop, and the NASCAR-style Dodge big font on the rear fenders. But even with all this custom work, our Dart doesn't skip out on 60s-style chrome, including the grille, hood pins, bumpers, and specialty Eagle wheels rivaling the paint for the perfect shine. The interior perfectly coordinates with the exterior as the wild green accents work well with the black main features. It looks like this one was restored recently considering the condition of the carpets, door panels, and the extra comfy microsuede seats for all six occupants. The B&M ratchet-style shifter is a clear indication that this is a driver's car. You get a three-spoke Grant sport steering wheel hooked up to provisions for power steering, if you want to use this for cruising. Of course something a little more devious might come to mind the moment you hear the thunderous roar of the exhaust. Pop the hood, and you'll see one mean-looking 318 cubic-inch V8. This Mopar Magnum is a fresh looking roller motor that has been upgraded with additional goodies such as a Holley electric fuel pump, dual feed 650 CFM carburetor, Accel distributor with Mopar high-energy ignition, MSD performance coil, electric cooling fan, and ceramic headers. It feeds a custom exhaust with performance H-pipe construction and Flowmaster mufflers. Power is sent to stout Torqueflite A727 three-speed automatic with 3,000 RPM stall to keep you in the ideal powerband. Just to make sure you get off the line and stay hooked to the pavement, there is a Ford nine-inch limited slip rear end running 4.10 gears. When it comes time to stop all this power, you'll be very happy about the front disc brake upgrade. This Pro Street Dart is an impressive custom build with all the right standout features. It's amazing you can bring it home for such an affordable price. Wolves in sheep's clothing that wrap big motors and big performance in subtle and unassuming aesthetics. It's cool when an enthusiast creates one, but factory-built heartbreakers are the ultimate rush. And the even bigger rush is cars that just shouldn't exist; cars that were so outrageous, expensive or under-promoted that they were largely ignored and, ultimately, extremely rare. This 1968 Dodge Dart GTS is a perfect example of that phenomenon. Seriously, whose idea was it to jam a 383/4-speed drivetrain in to a mild-mannered compact? That's pretty much the equivalent of today's Fiat Chrysler stuffing a Gen III Hemi into, well, a modern Dart. Pretty crazy, right? That said; the idea behind this fully restored MoPar is as fun as it is collectible. And, as 1 of only 991 383/4-speed cars built for the 1968 model year, this fully documented, numbers-matching coupe is 100% cool! BODYWORK/TRIM Much cleaner than when it originally rolled down Chrysler's storied assembly lines, this slick Dodge has been transformed into a take-no-prisoners stoplight warrior that consistently flies under the radar. Glossy Medium Green Metallic 2-stage, which has been thoroughly color-sanded, is correct to what the car's original owner ordered. There are no signs of rust or rot, suggesting that paint's canvas was a straight, trouble-free foundation before its metamorphosis began. Trim is a combination of original and reproduction items. Tight green vinyl adds a bit of style and protection. Not surprisingly, panel gaps are good enough to make the car's lightly flaked basecoat convincingly retro. And overall, this Dart is an exceptionally attractive representation of timeless Detroit muscle. ENGINE Lift the car's sculpted hood and you'll find an original, 383 cubic inch V8 that backs a correct 2468130 casting number with a February (2) 7th (7), 1968 (68) casting date and matching partial VIN. At the top of the Turquoise block, a clean Carter 4-barrel sends wind from an Organisol-coated air cleaner in to a factory-spec intake. At the sides of that intake, attractive chrome valve covers cap correct heads, an upgraded Comp cam and fully restored exhaust manifolds. At the front of those manifolds, a traditional points distributor, upgraded with Pertronix electronic ignition, sequences spark through fresh Chrysler plug wires. And in front of those wires, a crisp Glen-ray radiator funnels water through new hoses and old school squeeze clamps. This Dodge's clean engine bay is a nice combination of form and function, featuring a tagged yellow cap battery, an authentic Chrysler washer tank, stainless fuel lines and a rebuilt wiper motor. And everything, from the car's fenders to its firewall, is coated in the same excellent Medium Green Metallic paint as its glossy exterior panels. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Take one look under this beefy MoPar and you'll find a fully sorted chassis that's adequately equipped to back the car's sinister looks. Behind the B block, an original A833 4-speed makes good use of a Lakewood bellhousing and tough Hayes clutch. That transmission twists a proven Chrysler 8.75-inch rear end, which swaps factory 3.23s for beefy 3.55s. That smooth drivetrain feeds a fully sorted front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension, which is chock full of Just Suspension replacement parts. Manual drum brakes provide cool and confident stops. Exhaust rumbles through a $1K maze of authentic pipes and mufflers. Above that impressive hardware, solid floors have been dressed in a nice layer of body-matched 2-stage. At the corners of those floors, 15-inch Cragars spin 215/65 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial redlines. And, if you're a stickler for steelies, correct wheels and center caps are included with our sale. INTERIOR Inside this Dodge, a quality Legendary interior does an excellent job of mimicking correct factory fodder. The car's vivid perches are firm to the touch, featuring pliable covers that present very well. In front of that bench and bucket combo, a warp-free dash, restored by Just Dashes, frames a trademark square speedometer and old school Dart Solid State radio in broad swaths of black and stainless. Below that dash, a silver-trimmed console founds a twisted Hurst shifter on a sea of fade-free carpet. At the sides of that carpet, green door panels unite correct frames with serious "GTS" badging and a sprinkle bright hardware. In front of the driver, a simple green steering wheel laps factory pedals. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features a fresh plaid mat. HISTORICAL INFORMATION Our sale includes a GTS Visual Inspection that breaks down the car's VIN and fender tag as follows. Not only will this 1965 Dodge Dart GT get you all the attention you want, but it also does it at a value price. Dodge was particularly bold with this generation Dart by giving it the pod styling that came from Chrysler's futuristic turbine-powered cars. Today the design has appreciated into a retro-cool reminder of the jet age. That's a good thing because the maroon paint on this car looks out-of-the-world in the sunlight. It's the perfect framework for the chrome, and like any good 1960s coupe, there's plenty of it. Best of all, this increasingly hard to find brightwork is compete - from the Dodge hood emblem, to triple side ports, to the DART letters on the rear fender. One look at the interior, and you'll know there has been some money invested in making this Dart feel right. This car was originally gold inside and out, but it has been switched over to the more modern maroon and black combination during a restoration. The door panels, carpets, and dash were all so expertly handled that they remain in pristine condition today. Plus, there is a center console for the automatic transmission, which is the hallmark of a true Dart GT. The seating has been updated to a cloth and vinyl two-tone combination that is much more stylish than what the factory was offering. More importantly, the new high-back bucket seats are a much more comfortable way to cruise on a Saturday night. The driver gets a new GT steering wheel, and everyone gets an AM/FM/cassette player. But you might not want to use the radio at all. Keen eyes will notice the big Autometer tachometer, and triple set of new gauges all set in the middle of the dash. This is your first indication that this Dart might have a big motor, and a raucous exhaust note. Wedged underneath the hood is a 360 cubic-inch Mopar V8. This is particularly special because those who know Darts remember that a motor this large would not be a factory option until the more sedately-styled next generation. In this car, it has been upgraded with performance parts such as an Edelbrock intake, fined valve covers, an Edelbrock air cleaner, and Hooker headers. All of this combined means this little dart pumps out a massive 325 hp. When you fire up this monster motor, the dual exhaust makes a roar that many might not believe is coming from this compact coupe...but Mopar fans know better. Even with all its street-eating power, this Dart is still a comfortable way to get around thanks to an automatic transmission and Hankook Optimo tires. This modern rubber provides exceptional all-weather grip on this classic, and the taller rear size gives this coupe a bit of an aggressive forward leaning stance. Chrysler always produced fewer cars than the others in The Big Three. So now you're looking at a lower volume classic that offers big speed for little money. There's no better way to define value. And that's why we're happy to use the words "affordable MoPar" to describe this awesome 1969 Dodge Dart GTS. Fully restored and ready to hit local cruise nights, this classic wraps an original Magnum V8 and smooth 3-speed transmission in a striking blue and white color combination that's guaranteed to turn heads. And at only $40K it's the perfect way for any enthusiast to grab a cool old car and enjoy every aspect of the hobby! BODYWORK/TRIM Much cleaner than when it originally rolled down Chrysler's storied assembly lines, this slick Dodge coupe has been transformed into a take-no-prisoners street warrior that consistently knocks people out at cruise nights. You won't be staying under the radar with the car's killer Bluefire Metallic paintwork, which has been applied over a very clean body. There are no signs of rust or rot, suggesting that body was a straight, trouble-free canvas before its metamorphosis began. Trim is factory-spec all the way. Bright white vinyl adds a bit of style and protection. Not surprisingly, panel gaps are good enough to make a traditional tail stripe line up exactly right. And overall, the car is a virtually flawless representation of timeless Detroit muscle. ENGINE Lift this Dart's sculpted hood and you'll find an original, 383 cubic inch Magnum V8 that backs a correct 2468130 casting number with a matching partial VIN. At the top of the Hemi Orange block, a clean Edelbrock 4-barrel sends wind from an Organisol-coated air cleaner in to a factory-spec intake. At the sides of that intake, attractive chrome valve covers cap correct heads and fully restored exhaust manifolds. At the front of those manifolds, a traditional points distributor sequences spark through fresh Chrysler Electronic Suppression cables. And in front of those cables, a heavy duty radiator circulates water through new hoses and old school squeeze clamps. This Dodge's clean engine bay is a nice combination of form and function, featuring a fresh yellow cap battery, an authentic Chrysler washer tank, stainless fuel lines and a rebuilt wiper motor. And everything from the car's fenders to its firewall is coated in the same excellent Bluefire Metallic paint as its glossy exterior panels. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Take one look under this beefy MoPar and you'll find a fully sorted chassis that's adequately equipped to back the car's sinister looks. A correct Chrysler A727 3-speed twists a proven 8.75-inch rear end that's fitted with a Sure Grip differential and road-ready, 3.23 gears. That smooth drivetrain feeds a fully sorted front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension that's shackled to factory power steering and fresh KYB Gas-a-Just shocks. Cool and confident stops are provided by manual disc and drum brakes. Exhaust rumbles through true-dual pipes, which employ traditional turbo mufflers and polished stainless tips. Above that impressive hardware, solid floors have been dressed in a nice layer of body-matched basecoat. And at the corners of those floors, 14-inch Rallye wheels spin 205/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around stainless trim rings and color-keyed center caps. INTERIOR If you're like us and prefer your muscle cars flashy, you'll definitely appreciate the contrast exhibited by this Dodge's striking blue and white interior. The car's vivid perches are firm to the touch, featuring pliable covers that present very well. In front of that bench and bucket combo, a warp-free dash frames Chrysler's trademark square speedometer and an old school Dart Solid State radio in broad swaths of black and stainless. Below that dash, a wood-trimmed and blue-dyed console centers a simple chrome shifter behind a factory-spec tachometer. At the base of that console, "Dodge" branded floor mats protects fade-free carpet. At the sides of that carpet, white door panels unite white frames with serious "GT SPORT" badging and a sprinkle bright hardware. In front of the driver, a simple blue steering wheel laps stainless-trimmed foot pedals. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features a fresh plaid mat. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1967 Dodge Dart GTS Documented Numbers Matching West Coast Body Dart GTS 383 V8 A727 3.23 Sure Grip Year: 1967 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Red Mileage: 87364 Transmission type: 3 Speed Automatic Engine: 383 V8 Interior color: Black Vehicle Info While they were offered as Dodge's compact econo-cruiser, something about the Dart's angles begged for a high-performance treatment. As a result, a lot of guys have thrown 383s, 440s, and even 426 HEMIs in six-cylinder cars with impressive results but the elusive factory big-block Dart is still the closest thing you'll find to a blue chip A-body. This award-winning 1967 Dart GTS is just such a car - one of only 229 to house the marriage of a 383ci V8 and a Torqueflite automatic. Thanks to a pampered California life, the car retains all of its original sheet metal which, thanks to an extensive restoration, is now topped with an impressive mix of original and difficult-to-find NOS pieces. Fully supported by its broadcast sheet, Certicard, and documented owner history, the car has past you can trust and a future full of trophies. If you're ready for a pedigreed Mopar without the six-figure price tag, take a closer look at this Dart GTS. We'll get started by decoding the VIN and highlight the car's factory options: LP23H72291XXX L: DartP: Premium23: 2-door hardtopH: 383-4 HP V87: 19672: Assembled at Hamtramck291XXX: Production sequence number Shipped date: March 13, 1967 Options: Paint: PP1 Bright RedTrim: P6X Black, all vinylTransmission: 5 TorquefliteAxle Ratio: 3.23 Sure GripEngine: 62 383-4 HP V8Tires: 28 Red streak D70x14Radio: 1 Music MasterPower: 1 BrakesClean Air Package: 1 California Only, MandatoryConsole: 6 YesGlass: 1 Blue shaded, all windowsHead Rests: 3 Left & Right sideSteering Wheel: 3 Three spoke (wood grain)Tachometer: 7 YesUndercoating: 9 With hood insulator padWindshield Wipers: 9 Variable speedSimulated "Mag": 7 14" wheels requiredVinyl Top: 6 Black Accessory Group 35: Dart Light Package glove box lock, map & courtesy light, glove box light, trunk light. If you believe everything you read in used car ads, just about every car without visible rust is an "original California car". This Dart makes that claim too but backs it up with an owner history that dates back to its original buyer a Los Angeles realtor. The car was fortunate enough to trade hands between a small number of owners who understood the car's rarity, making the restoration process a little smoother than most. Stripped to bare metal, the all-original body required no major repairs just careful prep work for the fresh coat of PP1 Bright Red paint. It's a flattering color for the car's straightforward lines and one that shows especially well thanks to the contrasting black vinyl top. With laser straight panels, impressive fitment, and a great factory color, the car makes a great first impression. While the paint and body work is a good indicator of the caliber of restoration this car received, the details back up that idea in a big way. Every piece of trim on the car is either original or NOS, creating the closest thing you can buy to a brand new Dart GTS. At the front, a rechromed factory bumper rides below the handsome GT-badged grille. The fenders are capped by NOS turn signal indicators while, further back, the windshield has been upgraded with a '68-style gasket and trim set. The side view is filled in with crisp GTS badges, dent-free rocker trim, and driver-side remote rear view mirror. Otherwise, the bright red paint is left to speak for itself. Step around to the back of the car to admire the NOS taillight lenses capping the quarters while a factory valence sports a Dart GT badge above a rechromed rear bumper with NOS reverse light lenses. The big engine/little car formula seems like standard muscle car era practice but, in '67, the Dart was just starting its performance journey. Lift the hood to find this A-body's original 383ci "B" series V8, which produces a factory rated 280hp and 400lb-ft of torque. The foundation is a 2468130-12 block that hosts a balanced bottom end with new pistons, reconditioned rods, and a fresh crank. Further north, an updated cam works alongside rebuilt factory heads and a single Edelbrock carburetor to create the driving experience you would hope for from a car like this Dart. The intake manifold and valve covers are all both original pieces while the engine is crowned with a correct snorkel-free air cleaner added as a part of the California-mandated Cleaner Air Package. As you might expect, there isn't a lot of room up front so the accessory drive spins little more than an alternator, fan, and water pump. The water pump housing is another original piece which sits opposite a high-efficiency three-row core radiator and matching shroud. To support those original pieces, fresh hoses and wires run throughout the bay while reproduction decals and inspection marks complete the look. Shine a light under this compact Dodge and you'll find a rock-solid undercarriage ready for sunny-weather cruising. The K-frame has been powder coated, a new fuel tank lives out back, and everything else has been treated with the same level of care the rest of the car received. Behind the 383, an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic takes care of gear selection while an 8.75 inch rear end puts the power to the pavement through 3.23 gears. Around that drivetrain, an OEM-style chassis remains in place with torsion bars up front and parallel leafs out back. As an original big block car, power steering is out of the question but the brakes are power-assisted, clamping down on front discs and rear drums. The dual exhaust system flows down the center of the car to factory-style mufflers and bright stainless tips. At the corners, virtually impossible-to-find original GTS wheel covers front a set of 14-inch steel wheels wrapped in 205/75R14 BF Goodrich red-line tires. The theme of originality continues between the doors where a restored black vinyl interior offers exactly what the fender tag claims and nothing more. For you Mopar diehards, we'll cut to the chase and verify that the steering wheel is an original wood-grain unit recalled by the factory due to safety concerns. It's completely unrestored and that's totally understandable as the idea of boxing it up and shipping it to a stranger seems unthinkable. Behind the wheel there's a mint factory dash with all original instrumentation supplemented by a optional console-mounted tachometer. All the light and wiper controls look showroom fresh and the Dart Solid State radio still hangs in its factory spot. Down the center, a stainless-trimmed factory console makes room for the shifter, an ashtray, and plenty of storage while the bucket seats (with headrests!) look and feel brand new. The door panels sport Dart GT badges above the armrests and the black paint on the upper door frames looks every bit as nice as the exterior work. The Dart Light Package is a great touch as is the black vinyl headliner that stretches across the cabin. Behind the backseat, the trunk offers correct details, roadside tools, and a fresh trunk mat to match the quality passenger compartment. The sale of this rare GTS includes all the documentation you could hope for. The most important pieces include the original and well-maintained broadcast sheet, the original fender tag, the original Certicard, and Chysler historical documentation. Beyond that, vintage Chrysler corporation marketing, a Dodge Dart owner's manual, a DuPont paint chart, an owner history, a wiring diagram, and receipts round out the rest. As mentioned, the car has already received plenty of attention, claiming accolades such as: Chrysler Plant Car Show, August 26, 2012 Best A BodyMopars at Bakers, July, 28, 2012 Best A Body2013 Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance Award of Excellence2012 NMCA Muscle Car Nationals 1st place2011 Don Garlits All Mopar Show 2nd place A BodySpring Fling in California, 2007,2008,2009 Best A Body If you're just in the market for a big-block A body to take to the drag strip, there are plenty of better suited offerings out there for less. But if you're the kind of enthusiasts that values rarity, documentation, accuracy, and award-winning attention to detail above all else, this is your Dodge. Don't miss the opportunity to add this 1967 Dart GTS to your collection today! About This Auction Please note that all sales are binding and final. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1967 Dodge Dart GTS Documented Restored Numbers Matching 1 of 5 Dart GTS Convertible 383 4 Speed Year: 1967 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Copper Mileage: 37 Transmission type: 4 Speed Manual Engine: 383 V8 Interior color: White Vehicle Info Sometimes it seems the Mopar guys are so busy chasing Chargers and Daytonas that they forget about Dodge's equally awesome, and sometimes more exclusive, Dart GTS. Lightweight, and available with an array of ground-pounding V8s, the unassuming Dart was the fratzog brand's reasonably-priced alternative for buyers who wanted big performance for not a lot of money. And ultimately, when it comes to modern day collectability, living in the shadows of those more famous brothers was a great thing for cars like this striking GTS. One of only five 383/4-speed Dart GTS convertibles built, and the only Medium Copper Metallic example known to exist, this square-jawed land rocket is an incredibly rare car that's freshly restored, highly correct and fully documented. Congratulations to the car's lucky new owner on picking up his next trophy winner! Yes, this is a real one-of-one Dart GTS drop-top. And yes, it is fresh out of a ground-up restoration that was conducted by the pros at our own RKM Performance Center. As you all probably know, the guys at RKMPC work with a lot of vintage metal. But, given this stunning rag-top's exclusivity, they pulled no punches in making it one of the absolute best Mopar restorations on the planet. Here's what Chrysler Historical Services has on file for the car's VIN, delivery information and optional equipment: VIN: LP27H72XXXXXXL Dodge DartP - Premium27 - ConvertibleH 383 cubic inch high performance V8 that's fitted with one 4-barrel carburetor7 1967 model year2 - Assembled at Chrysler's Hamtramck manufacturing facilityXXXXXX - Production sequence number DELIVERY INFORMATION:Region Kansas City, MissouriDealer Swift Dodge in North Kansas City, MissouriShipped date March 21, 1967 OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT:TT1 Medium Copper Metallic paintFloor-shifted 4-speed manual transmission3.23 gears383 cubic inch V8 that's equipped with a 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaustD70x14 Red Streak tiresTransaudio AM radioWindshield tintWhite convertible top This awe-inspiring convertible rolled into the RKM Performance Center looking weathered but complete. After 44 years of road time, you might expect any steel body to be a ball of rust. But, aside from a thorough sandblasting, the car needed very little metalwork. Our team's goal was to keep this Dodge as close to 100% Chrysler Corporation as possible, so they went to work straightening, flattening and finessing its body into clean, laser-straight surfaces. Since that body had never been wrinkled, or had any unfortunate run-ins with a drag strip guard rail, its reassembled panels displayed stellar gaps. Eventually, weeks of primer and sanding counted down to a glossy coat of Chrysler code T Medium Copper Metallic two-stage. And today, this spotless Dart reflects a finish that's not too light, not too dark and just as sublime as its rhythmical name suggests. Widely regarded as one of the most successful compact platforms to ever roll out of Detroit, the Dart offered buyers the same excellent combination of performance and style in the '60s as it does today. At the front of the car, a black, anodized grille centers blocky "GT" lettering between large parking lamps, large headlights and a pristine chrome bumper. Above that grille, a "DODGE" branded hood flows to fresh glass that's cleared by satin-finished wipers, framed in new stainless trim and capped in correct White vinyl. Below that glass, faceted body panels are detailed with traditional door handles, ornate rocker trim and a correct chrome mirror. At the base of that mirror, a familiar Chrysler pentastar combines with stylish, fratzog-branded fender spears to perfectly complement bold "GTS" and "383 FOUR BARREL" emblems. And at the back of the car, an anodized valence centers more "GT" lettering between canted tail lights and a second pristine bumper. Lift this Mopar's flat hood and you'll find a stalwart, 383 cubic inch B V8 that, while generally underappreciated, was versatile enough to serve as Chrysler's big motor backbone for well over a decade. At the top of the Corporate Blue block, an orange-detailed Carter 4-barrel funnels wind from an Organisol-dressed air cleaner to a high performance intake. At the sides of that intake, attractive chrome valve covers cap correct heads, which hang over professionally restored exhaust manifolds. At the front of those manifolds, a traditional points distributor sequences spark through Chrysler Corporation Electronic Suppression cables. And in front of that distributor, a beefy Chrysler radiator circulates water through fresh Chrysler hoses and familiar squeeze clamps. Overall, the clean engine bay is a nice combination of form and function, featuring items like a retro yellow cap battery, a reproduction Certicard and an old school Chrysler washer tank. And everything from its fenders to its firewall is coated in the same excellent looking two-stage as the car's glossy exterior panels. Throw this Dodge on a lift and you'll find a fully restored undercarriage that, in addition to grilling many Fords and Chevys, looks clean enough to grille a rib eye steak on. Rock-solid floors, which are covered in a correct combination of gray primer and Medium Copper overspray, provide the perfect backdrop for a completely rebuilt suspension. Behind the motor, a 23-spline A833 4-speed takes care of gear selection while an 8.75-inch rear end spins power through 3.23 gears and a beefy Sure Grip differential. Around that drivetrain, an OEM-style chassis retains torsion bars up front and parallel leafs out back. Cool and confident stops are provided by a full set of manual drum brakes. Exhaust flows through traditional turbo mufflers. At the corners of the floor, 14-inch steel wheels spin D70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport redlines around 'Mopar Mag' hub caps. And thorough examination of all this Dodge's bushings, lines and hoses ensures an excellent mix of road-ready reliability and red carpet appeal. According to this Dart's fender tag, that nostalgic White interior is indeed factory-correct equipment. And, while many muscle car fans might prefer a traditional 'coal chamber' cockpit, there's no denying this classic's unique presence. The first thing that catches your eye is a duo of rebuilt bench seats which are firm to the touch and feature tightly-pleated covers. At the bottom of those seats, fade-free carpet flows past "Dart" branded floor mats to a small chrome shifter. Above that shifter, a warp-free dash anchors simple gauges and an old school Dart All Transistor radio in an attractive, C-notched contour. At the sides of that dash, white door panels hang bright chrome hardware between Flat Black frames, bold "DART GT" badges and stain-free armrests. The driver spins a simple black steering wheel around chrome, fratzog-branded horn hardware. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk hauls a correct jack and a plaid-patterned mat below a fresh decklid decal. The sale of this highly exclusive compact includes:An original broadcast sheetAn original VIN tagAn original fender tagOriginal marketing materialsAn original owner's manualThe aforementioned Chrysler Historical Services documentA stack of restoration photos With collectors' primary focus on other members of Dodge's incredible family, it's been entirely too easy to overlook the sensible Dart. But that also means while this killer GTS offers the same performance and handsome good looks of its siblings, it's a much rarer, and better, long-term investment. Professionally finished in every way, this cool convertible is a fully-sorted classic that'll show well at any major event and hold its own at any stoplight in America. And it simply doesn't get much better than an extremely exclusive Mopar built by some of the best in the business! About This Auction Please note that all sales are binding and final. In the world of electronic fuel injection and computer diagnostics, even late model dealerships look a little uncomfortable working on pre-OBD1 cars. There are many independent mechanics and shops that may be able to help, but putting your prized classic in the hands of a stranger is a leap of faith at best. This is exactly why we created the RKM Performance Center. Being proud members of SEMA, ARMO, HRIA and the North Carolina Motorsports Association, the RKM Performance Center is a nationally recognized shop; best known for high level OEM restorations and custom builds. Comprised of ASE certified mechanics, including several Master Technicians, you can feel confident that your car is in capable hands. As fellow enthusiasts, they are passionate about cars and will treat yours with the respect it deserves. With V8 power in a compact body, it's got plenty of performance, and by borrowing some styling cues from its big brothers over at the Mopar factory, it has an aggressive look that's instantly recognizable. The color is Eggshell White, which appears to be this car's original color thanks to door jambs that have never been painted (and never needed to be!). The single repaint shows a soft gloss and that typical Mopar shine that is endemic of the era, so while it's very nice, it does have a proper all-of-a-piece look that's very appealing. All the bodywork is straight with no signs of previous damage, and having spent its life in the warm southern US, rust is not something you'll worry about with this car. The hood scoop, Go-Wing, and bumblebee strip around the tail are all traditional Chrysler pieces that give the car a high performance look that Mopar fans will instantly recognize. The black vinyl top is exceptionally nice, with no signs of bubbles underneath or around the trim, and no loose threads on the seams. The chrome bumpers fore and aft remain bright and shiny, with nothing more than a buff with a soft cloth to bring out a bright shine. We don't know if this is one of those little old lady specials, but someone certainly took exceptionally good care of this little Dart and it shows. The split bench in this example does a pretty good impersonation of buckets with traditional Mopar pleats and built-in headrests. It's also wonderfully preserved with no damage or even notable wear. Even the seat covers are still taut, with the back seat looking brand new, which is rather amazing for being 40 years old! The instrument panel offers a rather complete array of gauges, and the original Music Master AM radio is still in the dash, just waiting for an upgrade. If you wanted A/C in your Dart, it was an under-dash unit as shown here, and it's a very rare option for a Dart. New carpets were probably installed at some point, but everything else is vintage 1973. Open the trunk and there's a correct trunk mat that fits better than most, as well as a correct jack assembly tucked into its spot in the quarter panel. This Dart uses a 318 cubic inch V8 borrowed from a later model. Powerful, smooth, and surprisingly torquey, it delivers great performance thanks to the car's lightweight body. Thanks to upgrades like a 4-barrel carburetor in place of the original 2-barrel, plus what we believe to be the heads and intake manifold from a 340, it definitely makes good power. It's quite nicely detailed with a very factory-correct overall look that helps with the factory sleeper vibe. A Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission shows quick reflexes, the suspension has been augmented with modern shock absorbers all around, including air shocks out back, and the glasspack-equipped exhaust system sounds suitably threatening. Vintage Rallye wheels wearing fat 225/70/14 white-letter radials make the Dart a nimble handler, and they really fill the wheelwells for a sporty look. Simple, clean, and very affordable, this Dart is a lot of fun for the Mopar enthusiast, or any cool classic car buyer.
