This 1974 Datsun 260Z certainly qualifies. With a smooth-running inline-six and a cosmetic freshening, it's a handsome car that delivers a vintage driving experience that's easy to use in today's traffic. If you're looking for a fun, sporty, unusual driver that will always get people talking, it's hard to do better than this. The paint was refinished a few years ago in the original bright color, and compared to all the silver and black Z cars you see out there, it's a classic combination that looks remarkably good on the curvaceous sheetmetal. It's very clean and there are no obvious signs of rust or previous damage, making this the ideal car for a first-time buyer who isn't looking for a project. The purity of the original Z-car's shape is undeniably attractive, and the classic long nose profile is more Jaguar E-Type than Datsun functional, and the stretched wheelbase to add a back seat doesn't hurt the look one bit. Fit and finish are quite good, and the reputation that Japanese cars earned was based largely on cars like this that were worlds better than their domestic competition and it's noticeable today. The rubber bumpers remain in good condition with no cracking or fading and there's still enough chrome on it to look dressed up but not '70s goofy. The black vinyl interior is 100% original and remains in decent condition with plenty of life left in it. The seats show only moderate wear, with a few splits in the driver's seat, but the foam underneath remains firm and comfortable. The passenger's seat and rear seat are in excellent condition, as you'd expect, and the carpets have been protected by heavy-duty rubber mats, so they're tidy, too. All the gauges are fully functional, including the auxiliary gauges on the top center of the dash, which are a styling cue that still in use on Z-cars today. An automatic transmission, along with the larger engine and back seat, were concessions to American tastes, but it also makes the car comfortable and a first-class long-distance cruiser. For the most part, this car doesn't deviate much from the original spec, and even the original radio is still in the dash. Under the hatch, you get a good-sized trunk with nice carpets that haven't been backed by the sun. Datsun knew that the 260Z needed to be competitive, so the 2.6 liter inline-six is a gutsy powerplant that revs smoothly and delivers impressive torque. Thanks to nicely tuned twin side-draft carburetors, it starts and idles beautifully, and pulls through the gears with a musical tenor that you'll enjoy every time you fire it up. The engine bay is tidy and clean, showing signs of conscientious maintenance throughout its life and plenty of recent parts. The big orange air cleaner gives it a purposeful look and there aren't many aftermarket upgrades, suggesting that this car has always led an easy life. The 3-speed automatic transmission slips through the gears almost telepathically, and suspension is supple yet athletic, showcasing the car's grand touring mission. It rolls on a handsome set of factory alloys wearing 205/75/14 blackwall radials that fill the fenders just right. The same things that made the original Z-car popular when it was new makes it a fabulous collector piece today: great performance, fun handling, and reliable mechanicals. Introduce yourself to the purity of driving that comes from a well-balanced chassis and an engine that can make the most of it. With an IMSA-inspired body kit, a beautifully preserved interior, and a few well-chosen upgrades, this is exactly the kind of car that earns fans everywhere it goes. The long nose styling of the Z car never seems to go out of fashion, and when combined with that wide-body look, a custom hood, and a deep chin spoiler, it takes on an entirely new look. Sure, it screams 1970s, but it's a lot more sophisticated than a Corvette with similar modifications and the blend between modified and stock is pretty seamless. The paint is in good order and the custom mix is subtle, which allows the wild bodywork to speak for itself. Sure, it's got a few signs of being driven, but who could resist? Typical of the Japanese, the fit and alignment of the body panels are excellent, and for a 35 year old car, this one fits together amazingly well. You'll note there's custom pinstriping on the vented hood and "whale tail" rear spoiler and headlight covers up front, which enhance the overall look. The car is perhaps most radical when viewed from behind, where there's a custom rear panel that makes the entire rear of the car one big taillight and it actually looks pretty cool. The two-tone interior gives the Z a sporting look that matches its extroverted bodywork. The front buckets are well preserved, with no cracks or splits, and showing only light wear on the button-tufted seating surfaces. With its distinctive dashboard design, with speedo and tach in front of the driver and three auxiliary gauges mounted up high in the center, the Z's interior has been the prototype for all Japanese sports cars for decades. In this car, the dash pad, the door panels, and even the rear hatch area are exemplary, showing no signs of sun damage which is so common on these cars. Functioning A/C is part of the deal and there's an AM/FM/cassette stereo system with speakers throughout the trunk area that still sounds pretty good. Power comes from an upgraded 2.8 liter inline-six, which makes wonderful sounds akin to the great British roadsters of yore, not to mention all that turbine-smooth torque. The 280Z uses fuel injection, which looks complicated but is extremely reliable and delivers improved performance and economy. Showing signs of proper maintenance throughout its life, this Z fires up the first time every time and pulls cleanly, with the 3-speed automatic delivering smooth upshifts and snappy downshifts, making this Z a fantastic point-and-shoot weapon in traffic. The all-independent suspension is agile, and none of its handling prowess is diminished by the modified body, which actually permits the use of wider rubber. A custom exhaust system with a single Flowmaster muffler and twin outlets built into the rocker panels gives the brawny six a fantastic sound that you have to hear in person. And we have to admit that we like the look of those chrome wire wheels, which are wrapped in fat 265/50/15 white-letter radials at all four corners. This is a very unique ride, and the look is what we all dreamed of in study hall and it has the performance to back it up. This is affordable fun that gets more than its fair share of attention. This car has been in storage for the past 22 years and I had recently acquired it from the owner. I brought it home with the intentions of getting it looking and running new again but my wife convinced me I don't have the time for it. The engine looks great, but the carburetor floods the engine with too much fuel. It will start but the carburetors will flood quickly and need to be drained for it to start again. Other than very minor spots of surface rust, the car appears rust free. It has been in a Georgia barn for the past 22 years. Didn't mess with it, but it would take very little time to get it running. Brakes also need attention and need to be bled with new brake fluid at the least. My wife is making me get rid of it ASAP. call me with cash offers and come pick it up today. The windshield is missing but can be found fairly inexpensively. All the tail lights and other lights as well as rear view mirror are in the trunk. They were were removed to have them re-chromed because of pitting and surface rust. There is no rust in the floorboards or trunk or underbody as you can see in the pictures. Very rare car that is extremely hard to find not completely rusted through. As far as I can tell everything is original to the car including engine, transmission etc.. Georgia did not issue titles to cars prior to 1961 and they only issued titles on SOME cars from 1961 to 1985. This one is not titled. It comes with a bill of sale, and that is all that is needed to properly register it. Call me with any questions. four zero four- Nine one seven- six zero three zero. EDIT: 06/15/2015 - I was informed by someone that saw this ad that the dashboard is from a 67.5 model year car and that the side trim is aftermarket and not original.

This sweet thing here was manufactured on 12/1974 which makes it the better 260z. Previous owner cleaned, re-gasket, and oiled the dual Hitachi emissions inspection carburetors not too long ago. With fuel, the car ran. And very well might I add. The floors have some cancerous areas but are very strong overall. The trunk, a few spots on the body, and wheel wells have some rust. The car has original 70's Western wheels, the front and rear bumpers, not pictured or mounted, as well as original electric and mechanical fuel pumps (260 had both). The Datsun 260z was produced in 1974 only! *Picking up and shipping will be buyer's responsibility.* Youtube 1974 260z to see car run. Just look for the wheels.

As some newer models prove, cars like this will always have a place in our garages and in our hearts, and this Z is a fantastic way to enjoy the ride. Looking at the shape, it's clear that there's a little bit of E-Type Jag in there, maybe a hint of Corvette, and plenty of MG, too. Fast, light, agile, and affordable, even today, this Z is a delight. It's also nicer than most, with a recent repaint in the original Maroon Mist metallic, which is a perfect '70s burnt orange kind of color that still looks great. It's also been fitted with a deeper chin spoiler that accentuates the long, lean, low look of the Z without taking away from the clean overall look. Cars like this were often put away as sunny-day drivers, and as a result, this one shows none of the bumps and bruises of the daily grind. Chrome was still in fashion, so there are plenty of bright pieces, including both bumpers, the stainless around the windows, and even the rub strips along the sides, all of which remains in very good shape. Even things like the rubber bumper overriders are supple and haven't been cooked by UV rays, suggesting that this car has led a very sheltered existence. One of the Z-car's biggest successes is the interior, which is both sporting and functional. The bucket seats were designed by guys who knew the car would be used to its potential, so they have thicker bolsters than most cars of the period, and grippy cloth instead of vinyl helps hold you in place. Of course, all of this remains in great condition, showing only very minor wear aside from some light discoloration of the plastic parts, most notably the steering wheel and console, but it's not particularly noticeable. The dash is full of easy-to-read instruments, including a row of auxiliary gauges in the center, a look that is still evident today in the Nissan GT-R. This particular 280ZX is also luxurious, featuring factory A/C, power windows and locks, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo, all of which are fully functional. There's a positively massive trunk area under the rear hatch, because this is the 2-seater model, and the original carpets show almost no wear or fading, which is a rare thing in a car with that much hatch glass. The L28E 2.8 liter inline-six is a fantastic motor. Torquey, yet eager to rev, it was enlarged to better suit American driving tastes, as well as to make the automatic transmission a reality. It still has that same baritone wail that epitomizes big-horsepower inline-sixes, and because it's a Nissan, it's reliable and smooth. The engine bay is a bit crusty but retains almost all its original equipment, and that tangle of hoses is how the factory did it, but don't worry, it has all been regularly serviced and is in excellent running condition. An MSD ignition has been added and it fires easily and idles smoothly, so don't be afraid to rev it. It's quite clean underneath thanks to a lifetime in Georgia, and it doesn't look like there's much deviation from stock, as it even wears its original catalytic converter. The 5-speed manual transmission is a pleasure to run through the gears and stylish Koenig alloy wheels wear 215/60/15 Kumho blackwall radials for an updated look. Today, as when it was new, this 280ZX is a lot of performance for the money. Garage kept: The car has had two owners. I have a journal from the previous owner that addresses all of the work done on the car. I have only had the car for about a year so I have only had the oil changed once (it is a more of a weekend car but at one point I was driving it daily for about a month. I am not certain of the exact details of the car, but I am selling the car as-is. The car runs perfectly, and I have added as many details as I can based on what can be seen on the car, but these following details are what is recorded in the journal the previous owner gave me.The original owner was from Texas who purchased the car from a dealer in Louisiana in 1972. In 1974, the previous owner before me purchased the car and kept it since I bought it in 2013. It seems he had taken good care of the car based off all of the work he has done on it; however, I am not certain of the accuracy of the journal because in two years, the milage went up about 50,000 miles; however you decide what you think. The paint is not stock, however, and the engine, carburetors, and transmission were once overhauled in 1981, in which the engine block was bored 0.5mm and given new pistons, pins. In 1982 the car was given a new distributor. In 1983 new shocks were added. The car is not exactly 100% original, but you can see for yourself if you want more details I have in the journal; however, I am very sure that the paint and the radio (which does not work, but I also have the original) are not stock. -The car has been in Georgia the majority of its life. -It drives perfectly, but there is one rust spot on the rear, passenger-side fender, but it is not major (it has not eaten through the metal, and I feel that it can simply be sanded off). -The clutch may need replacing in the next 5k-10k miles (it is in good condition, but I feel that it does not deliver the potential power from the engine). -The key cylinder to turn the key may be a little glitchy. To turn the key I have to slightly pull the key out and push downwards. I think that this is normal, but I am not sure. Once I figured it out, I would rarely have a problem turning the key like any other car. -All the gauges work except for the clock, and the fuel gauge is a little off center (a full tank shows up as about half). The driver seat may need some stitching because the seams have come out, but the seat is not torn. -There is no other rust except what I mentioned on the fender (unless you count the slight marks of discoloration that may be found on the undercarriage). There is a small crack in the center of the dash and the paint is about 7/10 (it is chipped in a few areas, and is cracked a little on the hood. -The wiper motor is broken. It was once rebuilt, but a common fix is swapping the wiper motors from 1990's Hondas. I have never really needed to use the wipers because I do not drive the car in the rain (except for maybe a slight drizzle now and then). -The seams of the leather that covers the handbrake have come out. -I only have one of the original mats (passenger-side). -The weather strips keeping out the rain have lost their adhesive. -The plastic below the rear hatch inside the car is a little damaged (the small holes and cracks) -This car has never been abused (and anyone who has this car probably has enough common sense not to drive it roughly even though they can be). I never leave it sitting for more than two weeks (I usually take it out at least once a week). -The radio which is currently in the car is not stock, but I have the original along with many service record, maintenance, etc. -I usually keep the car under 3500 rpm's (average of ~2800), but after 4000 rpm's, the engine makes a screeching sound, so I think the oil seals may need to be replaced, but I'm no mechanic. -The A/C works, but I never really use it because I like to drive with the windows down on a warm summer day. -The milage is correct; however, it may slightly change as I am taking the car out now and then just to keep it from sitting, but I imagine that by the time someone buys it, it will still be under 96,600 miles. This car has never been completely restored, and it is almost 100% stock. Im selling this car (along with all the manuals, brochures, service records, and extra goodies that the previous owner gave me) because I want to have a fun car that I can drive everyday without worrying about warming it up in the morning, and have more than one other person sit with me. It has been a fun car to drive, and I hope the new owner enjoys it at least as much as I have. Feel free to message me with any questions or for more pictures if you want anything specific; I will usually respond ASAP. Thanks,Syed
