After a five-year hiatus, the new MR2 Spyder marked the return of the mid-engine sports car to Toyota's line-up. VVTI DOHC ENGINE The Toyota vehicle has been fitted with a 1.8-litre double overhead cam (DOHC) 16-valve four-cylinder engine with a VVT-I (Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence) system. This produces 138bhp at 6,400rpm. It also sustains a torque of 125ft-lbs at 4,400rpm. The VVT-I system is used to improve fuel economy and engine performance as well as reduce exhaust emissions. This system controls the intake camshaft valve timing so as to obtain a balance between engine output, fuel consumption and emission control performance. By varying the cam timing, and thus the valve overlap, the engine can run more cleanly at low revs, boost its torque in the middle and still manage powerful high-rev performance. The engine is positioned near the centre of the chassis. This has the effect of of lowering the centre of gravity, thus improving the handling of the vehicle when cornering at high speed. The vehicle uses a mid-engine drivetrain with rear-wheel drive and five-speed manual transmission. POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO The new development focused on designing a pure sports car. This first meant that the car had to be light and so a curb weight of 2,195lbs was achieved. From this point, the company was able to focus on power to weight ratio, which would determine the speed and performance of the vehicle. The lighter the car, the better the power to weight ratio will be for a given engine. As car engines are an expensive part of the overall package, lightness has significant benefits. MR2 SUSPENSION Handling is further improved with the car's specifically designed suspension system. This includes a front independent MacPherson strut and rear independent dual-link MacPherson strut, with damper struts, lower control arms, coil springs and anti-roll bars. Steering is aided using a rack-and-pinion with electro-hydraulic power-assist, which enables a turning circle of 17.4 feet. ABS BRAKES The vehicle is light but also capable of reaching high speeds. I have owned this 1995 Honda Prelude for just over 4 years, it was owned by a mechanic from new. He is a friend of mine and still does all the work on the car. It starts and runs perfectly and gets 30 miles to the gallon. There is a very small oil leak, adding about a quart of oil a month or so, typical old Honda stuff. This is the SE trim which was only available in 1995. All other years its known as the non-Vtech Si model. This is a manual, with about 252,000 miles on the clock. I say about because it is currently my daily driver and I put about 300 miles a week for work. The paint and clear coat have taken a beating but this is a fantastic car. There is an aftermarket CD player with subwoofer and Ipod connection, sound system sound great. I live in Concord near Huntersville and work in Charlotte near Matthews so shoot me text or call. Up for sale is my 1988 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. I am the 3rd owner of this vehicle. I purchased it in October (2013). The vehicle had only 5,600 original miles on it and currently has 6,200 miles on it. It’s a true "All Original" survivor. It comes in the eye grabbing Nassau Blue. The same blue that was popular on the 65’ & 66’ Vettes. This is an awesome color and gets a lot of attention. The soft top is white and in perfect original condition with the plastic window in excellent condition, clear with no fogging. The interior is also blue along with the carpet. Everything is original and in excellent condition as you’ll see in the pics. I have the title in hand and ready to sign it over. NOW, back to the Corvette. I have done nothing to this car except detail it inside and out and put new tires on it (the ones that were on the car were the original tires dated Oct 87 of which I still have and will go with the car). All 4 wheels are in mint condition with no curb rash. The Corvette has all the power options (windows, locks, mirrors, driver’s seat & antenna). The car’s cruise control along with all the electronics in the dash work perfectly (No burnt out LEDs). The A/C blows cold. The AM/FM cassette stereo works great and all the speakers work as well. (I had to replace the two front door Delco/Bose amplifiers with factory replacements which is common in these cars) I keep the Corvette in a temperature controlled garage and its obviously never been smoked in. 2 key fobs and original owners manual are included along with 2 factory sealed cassette tapes. I’ve had it in numerous judged car shows in 2014: it won best C4 twice in the Charlotte Spring & Fall Auto Fair. Its won a national first place award in an AACA event plus other numerous 1st place trophies. Trophies will go with the car. If I don’t sell the car, the next destination corvette show for it this summer will be either attempting a NCRS Top Flite or a Bloomington Gold. I was told by a fellow corvette enthusiast who as a 1954 Corvette that has won the Duntov award. He knows his Vettes and he said mine would have no trouble taking a top-flite NCRS award.
