Well, when was the last time you saw one, let alone one in virtually stock condition? Maybe it's not a collector car yet, but something this clean with V8 power and room for the whole gang can't be a mistake, not at this price. The low-key looks of the big Malibu have aged well, and with everything '70s being popular again, you could have the coolest ride around if you're into irony. Actually, the green paint and smooth bodywork look pretty good for their age and it's obvious that someone has taken care of this car over the past 40 or so years. It comes from a warm climate and all four doors fit well, suggesting a car that has never been wrecked or neglected. Is it perfect? Nope. But imagine all the attention this car will generate at next week's cruise night, because everyone knew someone who drove one of these. It's also got a rather rare matching green vinyl top that's in quite good condition without the usual fading and popped seams you'd expect on a car of this vintage. The massive battering-ram bumpers are in excellent shape, the stainless shines up well, and you have to admit that the stacked headlights look pretty good on this body style. The big interior is also wonderfully well-preserved. Aside from some sun fading, which is inevitable on a car with this much glass area, it's completely intact. The plush bench seats are just as soft and comfortable as your sofa at home and the button-tufted door panels will look and feel familiar to anyone who grew up in the '70s. Instrumentation is basic, with just speed and fuel level, but the compartmentalized instrument panel is easy to read and still looks quite good. There's a newer AM/FM/CD stereo in the dash that sounds good in the hushed Malibu's interior and while it's not heavy on options, you just can't duplicate that big car feel these days. Your friends will be amazed by the stretch-out room available in back and if there was ever a car designed for road trips, this is it, from the comfortable ride to the gigantic trunk that's a little scruffy but in otherwise great condition. Chevy's bulletproof 305 cubic inch V8 provides good torque and reasonable fuel economy in the big Malibu, plus a nice V8 burble from the single tailpipe out back. Everything suggests that this is the car's original engine and it's in very good condition overall. It's so clean under the hood that we have to believe it's been recently restored, because no 40-year-old car has engine enamel that looks that good. You also get a correct air cleaner with snorkel intake, fresh belts and hoses with tower hose clamps, and lots of new parts wherever you look. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission is also original to the car and shifts smoothly to complete the luxury car feel. There's some light surface rust underneath, but you can see originality everywhere, from the floors to the exhaust system with a factory-style catalytic converter still in place. Simple hubcaps and blackwall tires emphasize the car's simplicity, and we wouldn't want it any other way. Collectable? Maybe not. Cool? Depends on who you ask. Affordable fun? Absolutely! This Malibu will bring back memories for many and offers a great alternative to the more familiar cars of the '70s. Saved from being converted into something it's not, this clean 1967 Malibu hardtop is just an honest old car with a lot of eyeball appeal and a strong-running small block V8. If you wanted a sporty, comfortable coupe but didn't want to feed a big block engine, a Malibu is what you bought, and it's just as appealing today for those very same reasons. The bright red paint makes this car a standout. There will be no sneaking around, and it doesn't need stripes and hood scoops to attract a lot of attention. The shape is one of GM's better designs, clean, chiseled and well-defined without being gimmicky, the A-body was a slam-dunk in the mid-60s. It was repainted a few years ago and they did a commendable job, as the long quarters are straight, panel gaps are decent all around, and the car has a performance look that isn't over-bearing, a key to the Malibu's appeal. There are a few signs of use and age here and there, and most of them could be erased with a professional cut and buff, but even as it sits, this is a really good-looking car. Most of the chrome and trim has been replaced or restored, offering a bright grille, shiny chrome bumpers, and correct badging throughout, including the "CHEVELLE" letters on the hood (because, as you know, the Malibu was a sub-model of the Chevelle in 1967). The black bench seat interior is part of the Malibu's no-nonsense vibe and the seat covers, door panels, headliner, and dash pad were replaced fairly recently. The wide speedometer still has clean, bright markings and very little fading, and the woodgrained accents that were part of the Malibu package are still bright and crisply rendered. There aren't a lot of options, but it does carry factory A/C, which is fully functional thanks to modern hardware working behind the scenes. The big three-spoke steering wheel has a great '60s look and a column shifter for the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission makes this one as easy to drive as you remember. The big back seat looks almost new, as do the carpets, and the cavernous trunk shows nice floors and a full-sized spare tire assembly that probably dates to when the car was still in regular service. A recent 350 cubic inch crate motor fits easily between the Malibu's fenders, a step up from the original 327/PowerGlide setup. Chevy Orange paint gives it a proper Chevrolet look, with a Summit Racing aluminum intake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor to add some power. The accessory drive is a serpentine setup from a late-model that includes an updated alternator and modern A/C compressor, while a dual reservoir master cylinder for the power front disc brakes adds safety. A new Flowmaster exhaust system gives it that famous V8 sound and it really is remarkably clean underneath, with nice floors and a lot of new components. The aforementioned TH350 3-speed automatic transmission feeds a factory 10-bolt rear end, which lives just ahead of a brand new gas tank. Rally wheels were installed a few years ago and always look right, especially with fat 235/60/15 white-letter radials that really fill the fenders. A fun, affordable car with a performance image, lots of upgrades, this Malibu has a ton of potential. Enjoy as-is, or put in a little effort and really transform it into something amazing. Better yet, this one comes complete with a 350, deep black paint, and a gorgeous black interior. Chevy positioned these as the cars that could do anything, and even today this handsome hardtop will draw a lot of admirers everywhere it goes. Originally Mist Blue, nobody will complain about the gorgeous black paint this Malibu wears today. But as you know, when you decide to paint your car black it means a big investment in bodywork and finishing and cutting corners is virtually impossible. Fortunately for you, the new owner, the quality shows in laser-straight panels, a deep, uniform shine without the usual swirl marks, and doors that open and close with precision. The low-profile looks of the Malibu have aged well, and this one has a timeless grace that somehow escapes the cars that get oversized wheels, lowered suspensions, and thumping stereos. Instead, this one exudes class and dignity, and with a muted rumble from its exhaust, looks every bit the part of a gentleman's express. There's minimal trim, although what is in place is in excellent condition, with nice chrome bumpers, a straight grille, and correct Malibu SS badges on the quarters. The black vinyl interior is the right choice with the black bodywork, presenting a clean, almost sinister overall look. A bench seat makes this a big, comfortable car with room for everyone, and the seat upholstery is expertly restored with correct materials and patterns. New black carpets and fresh door panels look fantastic, giving the interior a bright, airy feel that makes this car very easy to live with. The original gauges are in very good shape, surrounded by a bright instrument panel that shows none of the usual fading or discoloration, and there are auxiliary gauges under the dash. The original AM radio is gone, replaced by a later AM/FM setup and the massive trunk is quite tidy and in what appears to be original condition. As a code 36 V8 Malibu, the 350 under the hood is a natural, although the original engine was probably a 283. Rebuilt and dressed like a late-model factory piece, there are no surprises here, just a great-running Chevy small block. The chrome air cleaner lives atop a Rochester 4-barrel carburetor and a Holley intake manifold. A newer alternator, fresh plug wires, and long-tube headers ensure plenty of power without sacrificing its ability to be driven every day, and with power steering, it's easy to handle. A PowerGlide automatic transmission shifts seamlessly and delivers bulletproof reliability, while a heavy-duty 12-bolt rear end doesn't mind the horsepower. A new dual exhaust system with turn-downs ahead of the rear axle gives it a great V8 voice but doesn't betray this car's low-key demeanor. Handling is crisp, as Chevelles have always featured coil springs all around, and braking is confident despite the lack of power assist. Four 16-inch Cragar mags are a period look with a modern twist, and the 225/60/16 blackwall radials offer vastly improved handling. Just a tidy, no-nonsense Malibu, albeit one with a great look. Forget the later A-bodies, this one has the right look and plenty of performance for the price. Sure, we all grew up with these buzzing around by the hundreds, but when was the last time you saw one? And with 454 cubic inches under the hood, this is no 1980s wheezer, either! Nicely finished to a level belying its very affordable sticker price, this cool Chevy deserves closer examination. These became so familiar back in the day that it's worthwhile to stand back and take a second look today. Pretty good looking car, isn't it? Clean lines, a chiseled roof profile, and great proportions make it a car that suddenly stands out in a crowd. The soft metallic blue paint keeps it from being too in-your-face, which is a good thing because the mechanicals do that part of the job just fine. It's remarkable to find one this straight and clean, and someone has obviously invested a good deal of cash in making it look good. The steel cowl-induction hood is the only notable deviation from stock, but it works rather well on this big coupe and makes room for the big block underneath. Finish quality is decent, and if you want to take it to the next level, a professional cut and buff would probably pay off handsomely. The front and rear bumpers were powdercoated silver, which gives it a clean, monochromatic look, and all the lenses are in excellent shape. It's 1980 all over again inside, where pillow-tufted blue velour seats take you back in time. If you like the retro look, you'll dig it and it's so over-the-top that it's somehow cool once again. It's also in remarkable condition, as it was all recently replaced with NOS material and installed by the pros. The most notable upgrade is the steering wheel, which is a great-looking Grant unit with a fat rim parked on top of the original steering column. The factory gauges covered only the basics, so a custom panel in the middle A/C vents houses a pair of Auto Meter gauges for temperature and oil pressure, adding to the car's industrial look. A modern AM/FM/CD stereo fits neatly in the original radio's slot and powers speakers throughout the interior. Things like the carpets, door panels, and headliner are in remarkably good shape and the massive trunk is ultra-clean and fitted with a full-sized spare. This car might have originally come with a light-duty V6 or maybe a wheezy 305, but today there's a built 454 cubic inch V8 that makes for some pretty entertaining driving in the lightweight Malibu. Fully rebuilt and nicely detailed, it's obvious where the big money was spent on this build. It starts easily and idles well, and with almost 400 horsepower on tap, performance is more than energetic. It's got a stock-style intake with a Quadra-Jet carburetor, so it seems at least a little OEM, and it's got new parts everywhere you look, from the belts to the Accel ignition system. It's backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that was built to withstand the big block's torque without robbing it of horsepower, and it feeds a 10-bolt rear with highway-friendly 3.23 gears inside. A brand new Flowmaster exhaust system sounds wicked, and if not for those brand-new flashy aluminum wheels and oversized Mickey Thompson rubber, this would be one heck of a sleeper! Affordably priced and a blast to drive, this is the car for the guy who doesn't need everyone paying attention to him to have fun, but believe me, when you fire up that big block, they'll all notice. This 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu convertible is an outstanding example of doing it right, from the gorgeous color combination to the fresh performance hardware underneath. If you squint, you can see big brother Impala's shape in the Chevelles bodywork, and the flared quarters give it a very muscular stance hunkered down on the suspension like this one. As is traditional with the best street machines, fit and finish are beyond reproach, and a few custom details like the shaved door handles give it a smooth look without upsetting the vintage vibe. These guys probably sanded the bodywork until their fingers bled, then applied several coats of base and several coats of clear before wet sanding and buffing the Cameo Beige paint to a beautiful shine. The look is both subtle and arresting when you see it up close and realize just how nice the surface really is. All the original chrome was restored to a very high level, too, then reinstalled, fitting it snugly to the body to reinforce the seamless look. That makes this Chevelle look ultra-clean, but you can't quite figure out why. It's a neat effect that complements the sophisticated color quite nicely. Working with the lovely tan paint, the stunning two-tone leather interior is simply fantastic. Original factory buckets, a slick center console, and brightly trimmed dash all say 1965, but the fresh upholstery has a very clean look indicative of the very best street rods. Factory gauges, a woodgrained steering wheel, and the T-handle shifter in the center console all whisper to you that this is a vintage car, but the finish quality makes it feel brand new. Contrasting dark carpets and matching floor mats anchor the light colored interior, which is especially comfortable in top-down weather. An AM/FM stereo head unit lives in the dash and works in conjunction with a CD changer stashed in the trunk to provide the entertainment...well whatever entertainment you don't get from dropping the custom tan convertible top and hitting the road. Even the trunk was restored and filled with sound-deadening materials, and also includes a spare tire with a matching plaid cover. The real handiwork can be seen under the hood, where a fresh 350 cubic inch V8 was dropped between the fenders. Dynoing at 313 horsepower, it's no slouch in the performance department, and while it's a lot flashier than the factory intended, it still has an OEM vibe. A massive aluminum radiator with an equally big electric fan keeps it cool, and a polished billet serpentine drive belt system gives it a high-tech look. Underneath, the floors are in good condition and seem to bear out the idea that this has always been a clean, southern car. The automatic transmission and 10-bolt rear end work together to make this an effortless cruiser, although 3.53 gears out back give it a lot of snap at any speed. A dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers gives it a snarky exhaust note and it rides on a set of traditional chrome Torque Thrusts which wear 215/65/15 front and 225/70/15 rear Kumho radials. It's not often that we can call any muscle car subtle, but this ragtop is the kind of car that people spend hours examining with a big grin on their faces.
