You can instantly tell there was a lot of time, care, and money invested in getting this car into this superior condition. A full rotisserie restoration in 2007 means the body you show the public is straighter and more uniform than what came out of the factory 47 years ago. The reapplication of the code 53 Glacier Blue means this car looks correct but has an extra sparkle in the sunlight that can only come from a professional respray with modern paint formulas. And it's good that no one changed the color on this because the light blue is the perfect compliment to the pristine white top. The final coordinating piece is the correct SS396 white side stripes that emphasizes the gentle arc of the '69 Chevelle's profile. The chrome on the Super Sport is a bit more understated then on the standard Malibu, and so that means every piece of brightwork needs to really shine to standout. That's why it's good to see everything from the big bumpers to the delicate trim around the wheel arches replaced during restoration. But as much as this convertible goes for elegance, no one will mistake it for a pushover thanks to the correct five-spoke SS wheels. Parchment/white bucket seats are what you get with this factory code 791 interior. The original center console is excellent, and comes complete with everyone's favorite horseshoe shifter. This coupe feels exceptionally original inside with the carpets, door panels, and dash all looking amazing. The driver gets the three-spoke sports wheel, and beyond that is the round gage setup that even includes a tach. All the vents, gauges, and even the heat/defrost control have that great classic GM look and feel. This one even still has the Astro Ventilation tag next to the glovebox, which really tells you the level of detail in the restoration. While all this gets your heart racing from an enthusiasts standpoint, the practical side of you will see that this has enough room to take all of your family and friends along when you go for a drop top cruise. Under the hood is a 396 cubic-inch big block V8 filling up the engine bay. It's no surprise this one has all the details right considering the level of quality on the interior and exterior, but what you'll really love is that this is a date-correct 1969 396 block. In fact, this car is believed to be numbers-matching but the engine block was decked at some point so we couldn't confirm it 100%. The casting number is #3955272 so it's correct for the year and leads us to believe this probably is the original engine. A major auction company SOLD this car in 2007 and they claimed it to be numbers-matching at that time. It's dressed with new wires and hoses, and it was built to run with a four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock Performer intake. This combination comes together perfectly every time you turn the key and hear the wicked rumble of the dual exhaust. But more than just hear those pipes, take a look at the pipes' full path in the undercarriage pictures. That way you can also take note of this Chevelle's exceptional condition in places most people don't even see. But don't just use this for a museum piece. This includes the AM/FM stereo with auxiliary hookup for modern tunes, and an air conditioner that's been converted to R-134a a few months ago for easy servicing. The AC blows ice-cold and works great! When you show off your new Chevelle at the cruise-in, make sure you open the hood, because the 350 cubic inch V8 is beautifully detailed. Instead of going for the heavy chrome look that everyone else has, the satin black inner fenders and firewall match well with the Chevrolet Performance valve covers and Edelbrock air cleaner. If the super-straight body was not shiny enough, there's plenty of brightwork on the bumpers, fender guards, and the Torq Thrust wheels. High back buckets, center console, and iconic horseshoe shifter are the factory-correct highlights of this interior. But just like the exterior, the inside has been given plenty of upgrades during the restoration. The driver gets a later model grippy steering wheel to command the power steering, and beyond that is the correct deeply recessed gauge SS package. First, the block was re-decked and bored .030 over by WSI in Tampa, Florida. It was fitted with a 3" lift cam, new rings, pistons, crank, bearings, and lifters. The monster motor exhales deeply through Hooker headers and a 3" stainless dual exhaust with performance H-pipe construction and Flowmaster mufflers. The full package is reported to produce over 400 horsepower, and you'll believe it the moment you turn the key and the exhaust begins to bark. To get this power to the ground it goes through GM's trusty TH400 three-speed automatic transmission on its way to the stout 12-bolt Positraction rear end running a versatile 3.31 ratio. Because we all know power is nothing without control, this Chevelle has been upgraded to four-wheel disc brakes and modern Federal tires with an aggressive directional tread. It's easy to understand why you find this Chevelle so visually stunning. It has had a recent respray that gives the black an unmistakable high gloss shine. It also doesn't hurt that the contrasting white stripes were painted on to complete the SS350 look. Fit and finish are quite good, and that helps highlight the excellent condition of the body. A cowl-induction hood and hood pins add an aggressive look, and the SS gear in 1972 included a blacked-out grille and a few well-placed badges around the perimeter. Overall, it's a great aggressive apperance with just the right amount of shine from the window trim and tightly fitting chrome bumpers. People might think twice about messing with you at stoplights, but then again, they can't see you from behind the window tint that makes the glass as dark and shiny as the paint. Black buckets flanking a center console make this Chevelle a lot more desirable than most of its bench seat siblings. It leaves room for the iconic horseshoe shifter that makes this coupe really feel like a Super Sport. The seat covers, door panels, and carpets are all quite nice and there is a practical side to this muscle car. It has the interior space to seat five, and they will all stay comfortable with the air conditioner running on easy to service R-134a.
