The OM617 engine family is a straight-5 diesel automobile engine from Mercedes-Benz used in the 1970s and 1980s. It is a direct development from the straight-4 OM616. It was first fitted to the W115 series in 1974. The OM617 is considered to be one of the most reliable engines ever produced with engines often reaching over 621371 miles or 1 million kilometers without being rebuilt and is one of the key reasons for Mercedes' popularity in North America in the 1980s, as it was powerful and reliable compared to other automotive diesels of the 1980s. It is also a very popular choice for the use of alternative fuels, mainly straight or waste vegetable oil and biodiesel, although the use of these "alternative" fuels may cause engine damage over time if not processed properly before use.
The Mercedes-Benz W126 is a series of flagship vehicles manufactured by the German automotive brand Mercedes-Benz. Premiering in September 1979 as the successor to the earlier W116 line, the W126 was the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship to officially bear the S-Class name referring to Sonderklasse or "special class." the reason for selling the -ol girl- is strictly medical, as my doctor has told me to not drive any longer as i have suffered from a brain aneurysm(i thought i was recovering nicely too-the doctor was quite angry with me)
why buy an older car? easy-less insurance,less excise tax,less likely to be stolen,very unique to see one of these on the road, as all the other cars out there look alike-stand out-be noticed
the miles per gallon is quite impressive for a car of this size and weight(31mpg plus)-someone looking for comfort and room will have no issues adjusting to this mercedes at all.
i just purchased four 'brand new' tires for this through town fair as they offered me the best service for what i was spending-plus two new outer tie rods were done along with a full computerized four wheel alignment too-
the FACTORY spare tire seems to have been never used and is included too
the car was purchased and driven in north carolina for the majority of its life, the 2nd owner also lived there as well, before moving north-

someone did install a mercedes block heater for the cooler months as its easier to circulate the 8 quarts of oil that's pre warmed to the right temperature plus warm oil does prolong the engine life on start ups-(and gives you almost instant heat inside the car)
all the receipts that are kept(PLUS the original window sticker too) for the repairs along the way including a dealer stamped book to show the great care this car has had up to and including my ownership-
fresh oil change has been done along with a new air filter too.

i get complemented on this no matter where i travel.
i've been asked many times to park up front at most restaurants i go to. as it seems to be pleasurable to look at, plus this enhances their appearance of clientele at these places .
power windows along with power four wheel disc brakes
center adjustable arm rest for the front and rear passengers is a comfortable plus
the factory supplied first aide kit is still in the original wrapper as well(un used), in its place on the rear deck
non smokers car
alloy wheels are in great shape
coming up to a 33 year old car that is still on the road and is used everyday-extremely impressive on the build quality and durability of these automotive craftsman-
doing the math, averagely, this was only driven a little over 9 thousand miles per year....
breaks my heart that i've got to let this go as i'm in my late 50s right now and have waited all my life to get a really nice car for myself.but in order to save my life and perhaps someone elses on the road my doctor /surgeon told me no more driving.
