I started this project about 5 years ago. This was going to be my consolation prize after having to sell my bike after the birth of my son, and I got a fair amount of work done to it. Unfortunately, my job has me out of town 75% of the year, which means when I do get home, I spend most of my time with family. Consequently, progress on the Mustang has come to a grinding halt. It's a '68 289/2bbl automatic car. It has factory air, power brakes/factory discs and power steering. The fenders are 100% rust free, rockers are rust free, torque boxes are rust free, trunk bottom is rust free (some very light surface rust), and trunk lid is rust free. I replaced the passenger door, both quarter panels, both rear outer wheel wells, tail light panel and rear cross member. It will need a new hood and grill pieces (I have the original pieces, but they are damaged). Floors are 'ok' - as in, if this is going to be built as a driver, a couple of patches will do the trick. If it's going to be restored more as a show car, I'd replace 'em. The interior is all there, but it's shot. I was going to get a kit from CJ's (I got everything else from CJ's) that runs about $650 and includes everything you'd need - seat covers, door panels, carpet, dash pad, the works. The car actually runs and drives well. The power steering needs work, but the engine makes good power and the transmission shifts perfectly. The AC does not work, but all the pieces are there and connected, and should be pretty straightforward to convert over to 134. As you can see from the Marti Report, it's originally from OK, black with parchment interior, one of 269 built that year with this paint/trim code. It'd make a very nice driver, perhaps an even nicer show car as it's a relatively rare option/paint combo. I've got a lot of time and money into this thing, but as they say my loss is your gain. If you're looking for a good candidate for a straightforward restoration, this is your car. Most of the heavy work is already done and it wouldn't take much more to put this back on the road.
